The two spent the night there in the forest holding each other tightly. Neither of them brought up conversation that involved anything from earlier. As InuYasha seemed to be somewhat relieved by the outcome Akira was still riddled with confusion and guilt in her heart. During the night after InuYasha had fallen asleep in her lap the answer to her riddle came just before the morning light. InuYasha shifted his body as he woke up and looked at her with his big golden orbs. She smiled back at him.
“InuYasha,” she began as he began to sit up. “Do you remember what you said to me last night?”
InuYasha nodded in response and the cheerful tiny smile faded slowly from his lips.
“Just as you are bound to Kikyo and Kagome, I am bound to my sister.” She pause a moment searching his face for understanding. “I cannot stay with you. My heart is not able to withstand the torture of seeing you with her or the confusion of what your intentions really are…”
InuYasha rose to his feet turning his back to her. “My heart is yours.” His voice trailed off.
“You are bound to Kagome…you are bound to Kikyo...there is no room in your heart for me.” She said softly as she stood and walked towards him. She laid her hand gently on his shoulder.
InuYasha stood feeling the light pressure of her soft hand on his shoulder. He turned around facing her and though he would have done anything to make her stay he knew there was nothing. He grabbed her pulling her close to him and whispered into her ear, “I am also bound to you by choice...and there is plenty of room in my heart for you.”
“I want to believe you.” She added. “I need time to think InuYasha…time to try and sort everything out.”
The two said their long good bye and InuYasha stood watching her as she disappeared into the forest. With her out of sight he made his way back to Kiade's village. Everyone was waiting for his return and surprise filled their faces as they noticed he was alone. Everyone that is except Kagome.
After a light lunch Kagome announced to everyone that she needed to return home. InuYasha walked her to the well to bid her goodbye as Miroku and Sango watched hidden in the trees. For a long time Kagome just stood staring at InuYasha as there were no words between them. Finally curiosity consumed her and she began to question him about the night before.
“InuYasha were is she? What happened?” Kagome asked.
“Nothing.” InuYasha replied hesitant to explain.
“Did you find her?”
“Yes.” InuYasha replied.
“Well then what was said?” Kagome asked frustrated. She felt she needed to know what was happening between them. Perhaps it was reassurance of her own place in his heart that she was seeking or perhaps it was to help relieve his sadness.
“It is nothing to worry about Kagome. I am sure she is gone and never will I see her again.” InuYasha replied never looking Kagome in the eye.
Kagome stood speechless and a wave washed over her as she didn't know what to say in return to his despair weighing heavily on his face.
“InuYasha…” Kagome said realizing his pain. “If you love her as much as I think you do you should go after her.” Kagome had turned her eyes away from him and allowed her long dark bangs to fall over her eyes.
“Kagome…” InuYasha managed.
“Don't let her get away.” She paused for a moment hoping he would dart off into the woods after her but he stayed staring in disbelief at her. Reluctantly she gathered up the will to continue on and explain. “I love you InuYasha, and I want you to be happy. And if it is this girl's heart that you long for, that you need, and there is a chance for you, don't let it get away from you.” Kagome walked over to InuYasha and looked him in his eyes. “Your heart has suffered enough.”
After waiting for a reply that never seemed to come Kagome finally spoke up again. “InuYasha I have to go. But I will try to come back as soon as I can.”
InuYasha nodded in response and watched as she jumped into the well. He stood there for a while before he noticed he was being spied on. “Enjoy the show?” he asked looking in the direction of Shippo and Miroku who immediately turned red with embarrassment. Realizing that there was no need to try and hide anymore the two of them stepped out and began walking over to the half demon who wore a look of displeasure on his face.

“InuYasha…” Miroku began. “We all want to know what is going on, you never tell us anything.”
“Have you ever thought that is because it's not your business?” InuYasha replied annoyed.
“It's only because we care!” Shippo replied angrily.
“Keh, more like you are all nosey.” InuYasha grinned slyly at the little fox demon.
“So what are you going to do?” Miroku asked.
“I-I don't know.” InuYasha replied.
Miroku released a big sigh, “You know InuYasha that everything happens for a reason.”
“What do you mean?” he asked looking at the monk confused.
“Do you really want my advice on this?” Miroku asked.
InuYasha stared at the monk blankly.
“Everything happens for a reason.” Miroku went on to explain. “It is destiny, fate that you have led the life you have lived. I don't believe that it was by accident that you met Kikyo. Threads of fate were woven for the two of you to find each other. Everyone has a place, a role to play in this world and Kikyo helped you to find yours. The destiny was laid out for Naraku to become the evil bastard that he is trying to gain the sacred jewel for himself and in a sense you are the only one who can stop him, along with our help of course. When Kagome came back to this world it was your second chance to right what was wrong. And to teach you the values Kikyo did not have time to show you, because of Naraku.”
“Just exactly what are you saying Miroku?” InuYasha asked hastily.
“The experiences we have in life make us who we are, and the person you are today is much different than that of a few years ago, or even the person you were before you were sealed to the sacred tree.” Miroku took a deep breath and continued, “My point is you should follow your heart InuYasha, and if it is telling you to go after her, then go!”
“A guy who gropes women before he knows there name is giving me advice…” InuYasha scoffed.
“As lecherous as you may see me, I still know the ways of the heart.” Miroku answered. “Whatever your decision I will be at Kiade's hut keeping check on Sango.”
