Chapter 8: The Memory of the Fallen One

Some time passed as Kagome has leaned onto Sesshoumaru, as he himself thought about the future when something his father told him began to stir in the deepest part of his mind

 

~*~*~Flashback~*~*~

It was late winter an older looking demon was looking to the moon. His body lined with injuries as blood dripped to the ground. A younger demon that looked similar to him was standing behind him. “Father, do you insist upon going?” Sesshoumaru asked as the cold wind picked up.

 

“Do you intend to stop me Sesshoumaru?”

 

“I will not stand in your way, however before you go you must entrust the swords Sounga and Tetsusaiga to me.”

 

There was silence for a moment, then his father spoke “And if I refuse, will you kill me? Your own father?” The wind picked up again as a huge breaker hits the shore. “You desire power so much. Why do you seek power my son?”

 

“The path I walk is that of supreme conquest, and it is power that will revel the way to me.”

 

InuTaisho looks from the moon down to the beach. “Supreme conquest…tell me Sesshoumaru have you someone to protect?”

 

`Someone to protect…' “Ridiculous.”

`Why was I thinking about the past…at the time what father said was ridiculous though now I would give my very life to protect the one in my arms…even re-journey through the 7 levels of hell…' thinking more into it. `“Do you have someone to protect…” Yes I Sesshoumaru have my family to protect…is this what father meant about supreme conquest, is that you have compassion for someone, not the power that you have acquired?'

 

Lost in his own muse Sesshoumaru barely caught that Kagome had fallen asleep again. Before going under she said one last thing. “Thank you Sesshoumaru.”

 

Unknown to either of them NobuHikaru was watching from the other side of a near-by tree. `She really has changed his heart…Brother; your eldest son has finally learnt what the path of supreme conquest is all about.'

 

Something behind NobuHikaru caught his attention turning around he saw Sesshomaru's ward “Lord Sesshoumaru where are you!” She called out.

 

“Rin:”

 

“Lord NobuHikaru have you seen Milord?”

 

“Rin how many times must I tell you not to address me by my proper title?”

 

“But Rin is only showing respect for Milord.”

 

“While we are mot in the company of the other lords you may call me grandpa.”

 

“Yes lo…Grandpa,” she said bowing her head.

 

“Now let's go find Sesshoumaru.” Picking up the 12 or 13 year old Rin, Nobu walked into the side of the garden where the `couple' were so firmly cuddled together in their own worlds.

 

Sensing a demonic aura of one that was nearly Sesshomaru's strength Kagome awoke to see someone similar to Sesshoumaru.

 

“Lord Sesshoumaru!” Rin waved from Nobu's arms. “Is that you lady Kagome?”

 

“Yes Rin it's been awhile hasn't it?”

 

“Yes it has…Where's Inuyasha, and why are you on Sesshomaru's lap?”

 

Kagome blushed and looked up to Sesshoumaru for some help. Said demon lord was looking down at her with an almost smirk to see her in this much discomfort over such a simple answer. “Rin, Kagome is your new mother.”

 

Nobu set her down and Rin ran over to them. As Sesshoumaru set Kagome down beside him, Rin ran over and gave Sesshoumaru a hug. `I do not know why but I've always seen her more as my pup then as my ward…with Kagome here she will be able to help her.' Sesshoumaru placed a hand on her head giving her a small pat as his show of affection for the girl. Then he looked to Kagome who had looked down to her lap with a small sadness. “Rin go pick flowers, Kagome will join you shortly.”

 

“Yes Lord Sesshoumaru!” and with that she took off to pick flowers.

 

“What troubles you?”

 

A tear slides down her cheek as she looks up to him “I just miss my adopted son…”

 

“The kit.”

 

“Shippo yes I miss him dearly…”

 

Contemplating about his options he could easily ignore her want for the kit but that would most likely put her into a deep state of depression. `Maybe even into death…or this Sesshoumaru can bring the kit and take him as a ward to…' “Kagome…this Sesshoumaru must patrol the lands around this valley.”

 

She looked up to him with sadness in her aura. “When will you return?”

 

“By morning at latest…Uncle watch her till my return.”

 

Nobu nodded as Sesshoumaru stood up and then transformed into his energy ball form and disappeared.

 

“Lady Kagome it is a pleasure to meet you.” Nobu said with a bow.

 

“Oh…I saw you at the meeting…sorry about that I don't know what came over me. It's nice to meet you, though why do you look like Sesshomaru's and Inuyahsa's father?”

 

Nobu smirks. “He was my elder brother.”

 

“…Could you tell me a little bit about him and why Sesshoumaru is the way he is?”
