InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ The Wind Beneath My Wings ❯ Back to the Future ( Chapter 3 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]

"Oopmmmff!" The distressed girl landed with a loud thump on the ground. Slowly she sat up, rubbing the back of her head. "Ummm... OW!" she shouted to no one in particular. It was confusing. Just a few minutes ago she'd been getting ready for school and to go back to the future (pun intended xD ) and now she was here. And dirty, probably."Damn space-time-continuum-loophole-in-a-well-thingys." she growled, pulling herself to her feet and looking around. "Where the hell am I now?" she muttered, feeling around in the darkness. If she was in the present, the well was covered. If she wa sin the past, it was still early morning. Either way, she was NOT pleased. "Mama!!! Papa!!" she yelled, standing up and dusting herself off. Her white and green school uniform was probably full of dirt and dust and, had she not been wearing her concealment spell that masked her youkai traits, she would've simply cleaned them and leapt buildings all the way to school. But she knew her parents wouldn't approve, and the knowledge only made her growl as she shook, a bit like a dog. "What the fu- OW!!" Something -- or someone -- had jumped into the well landing on top of Izayoi. She found herself once again becoming acquainted with the ground. "Oi!" she groused, standing up and brushing herself off frantically. That something was blinking down at her and she sniffed slightly to see who it was. A wave of relief washed over her and she smirked slightly. "Ojisan."

Souta Higurashi, now a grown man with children of his own, laughed and patted her head, around were her ears ought to be. His aim was accurate and she suppressed a growl of contentment before shaking his hands off her invisible, yet happily twitching ears. "Why are you down here?" she demanded, looking up at him slightly. He chuckled lightly again, searching for her in the dark. She, in turn, could see him perfectly and almost laughed as he squinted for his niece. "I was passing the shrine on the way to work and heard you cursing up a storm. Now come on. You'll be late for school and your mama would murder you."

With that he turned and began climbing up the ladder out of the well. A smile flitted across her lips and she lifted him around the waist and leapt down, setting him down lightly and opening the door of the well house to be greeted with a blast of bright sunlight. She blinked as golden eyes turned violet narrowed against the harsh, sudden lightly, she dusted herself off a bit more, scowling as she waved goodbye to her uncle. "Arigato!"

He simply smiled and waved nonchalantly over his shoulder and trotted down the shrine steps off to work. Probably late again. She rolled her eyes. "Ojisan, you never change." she muttered under her breath before hitching her small messenger bag up closer on her shoulder and following his movements, down the steps, but instead turned right, towards the high school. It was about a 5 or 10 minute walk, not bad. But if she used her youkai powers she could get there in 60 seconds flat. Damned society. she grumbled as she crossed the street, nearly avoiding getting clipped by a delivery truck. She yelped and barely leapt out of the way in time, flipping him off as he sped around the corner. She hated it here sometimes, all the stupid smells and sounds threw off her senses. "Watch where you're going, bastard!!" she yelled with a ferocious growl, crossing her arms and glaring at the license plate. F344W5... I'll remember that, buddy.

"Glad to see you're in a good mood."

Izayoi turned abruptly, blinking, as one of her schoolmates from the future approached her a small, quiet, adoring smile on his face. As usual. "Kaemon." she chuckled lightly and gave him a friendly hug, her foul mood forgotten. He had this way about him that made her smile. It was strange. Just one look at him made her anger disappear. Kind of how her mother was with her father. It was stunning actually. "How are you feeling?" he asked, pushing black hair out of his deep blue eyes. "You still have the flu?"

Izayoi swallowed a lump of guilt in her throat. She HATED lying to him. He didn't even know she was half hanyou! "I dunno. My head still hurts a little." It was true. She'd crammed last night before hitting the sack and narrowly avoided getting lectured by her mother on the importance of NOT studying at the last minute. Like she had room to talk. It was harder than it seemed, leading a double life. Sure Izayoi was a tad rough around the edges but she had her mother's heart and her father's honor and that was rare. She hated lying, it nearly destroyed her. Especially to Kae.

They continued their walk to school as Izayoi's mind buzzed with information and worry. "Kae, when are midterms?"

Kaemon, whom had his freckled nose buried in a book, blinked up at her. "Tomorrow's math and science and Friday's history and literature. Plus nutrition and physiology. And physical fitness for you."

She groaned inwardly as each subject was ticked off. Out of the academics she was best at literature. Her mother and father both tutored her outside of school as she was growing up. Kagome always said she had Inuyasha's handwriting--beautiful, flowing kanjiis. Inuyasha would only puff up a bit and beam proudly. Izayoi was also really good at history. Hey, why wouldn't she be? She lived it!

But her greatest accomplishment was physical fitness. She couldn't help but use her youkai strength just a little -- always pulling ahead just a hair or beating the record by mere seconds or counts. Her mother reprimanded her for it as did her father, but she knew deep down he found it amusing and would probably do the same thing.

"Iz?"

The half hanyou girl jumped lightly and looked back to Kaemon, who in turn looked at her, puzzled. "You okay?"

"Yea!" she rushed as the bell rang and she slipped into geometry. "Catch you later!"

Another long day...

Izayoi groaned as she leapt up out of the well, taking off the kanjii necklace that was her concealment spell. She stretched and shook abruptly, breathing in the fresh, cool, clean, unpolluted air of Feudal Japan. Golden eyes reutnred once again and they shifted to sudden movement behind the trees. A familier scent tickled her nose and she smiled as her younger sister, Linorah, dashed out to meet her, a smile gracing her tiny lips. "Nee-chan! Nee-chan you're back! Papa! Papa! Nee-chan has returned!"

Laughing, Izayoi picked up her little sister and hugged her tightly, the four year old's silver hair tickling her chin. Linny, as Izayoi called her, looked up with huge, bright golden eyes. "Nee-chan! How was school? Are you all caught up now?"

Chuckling still to herself, Izayoi set down her sister and picked up her bags once again. "Almost, pup, almost. Is dinner ready? I at with Kaemon but that was about 4 hours ago. Is Mama cooking Ramen?"

Linny shook her head sadly, reaching up to take one clawed hand into her own. "No. She's making oden and Papa's not happy."

Izayoi giggled and was just about to answer when her ears twitched and she spun around, hand flying to Kenshuga's hilt. She growled, pushing Linorah behind her protectively. The little girl yelped and clung to her nee chan. "W-What is it?"

"Quiet." she mumbled, eyes darting around. Something was coming. Something big.
