Me? Hold A Grudge?

Kagura threw her tray down onto the lunch table, causing Miroku to look up at her, with one eyebrow quirked, from his book. She plopped herself onto the bench. She was still angry with Inuyasha and it didn't help that he still had her keys and she had to walk to school that morning.

“Something wrong, Angel?” Miroku asked, masking a smile.

She glared at him, debating on whether or not she wanted to go into it during lunchtime. “Yea, something is wrong.” She started violently ripping her straw open, “He's a fucking asshole and I hate him.”

Miroku coughed, biting down on a smile. “Kagura, you're going to have to be more specific as to which asshole you mean. In your book, that's quite a list.”

Kagura threw a fry at him not sharing in his humor, “Inuyasha, you idiot.”

Miroku looked surprised but quickly masked it, “And what exactly did Inuyasha do?”

Kagura crossed her arms and pouted out her lip, “I'd rather not talk about it.”

Now he was interested, “Ok, it's no big deal.” He said returning his attention back to his book.

She sighed, slumping her shoulders, “Inuyasha found out about the whole Sesshoumaru thing.”

Miroku shook his head but said nothing.

“When he came over last night he yelled at me and I yelled back and all that jazz. And we sort of came to an agreement so no big deal but then he um. . . he. . .”

Miroku bit really hard on his tongue to keep back the laughter. “He did what?”

Kagura's face turned red, “He was just being stupid, you know and I told that he had to decide.”

“Decide about what, Kagura?” Miroku asked, his laughter fading as he realized exactly why Kagura was angry.

She shrugged, “I told him he can't get it from both of us.” She bit her lip, thoughtfully. “I meant he had to decide if he wanted to keep doing what we were um . . . doing or if he wants to pursue a relationship with Kagome.”

“And I take it he didn't react well?”

“Well, you know how Inuyasha's usual reaction is to yell.” Miroku nodded. “Well, he just glared at me and then he left. So, yea, he didn't take it very well.”

His eyes widened, “Wow, he was pissed.”

Kagura groaned, covering her face with her hands, “No kidding, Miroku. Thanks for your ingenious insight.”

He sat back rubbing his chin thoughtfully, “So what are you going to do then?”

“Nothing, Miroku. I'm not doing anything.” She stabbed her fork into her chicken product of the week. “I'm right in this not him.”

“Are you sure about that?”

“What do you mean am I sure? Of course, I'm fucking sure.” Kagura said, anger slipping back into her voice.

“What about Sesshoumaru? Don't you think it upsets Inuyasha that you're giving him a chance?” He said calmly crossing his arms. “You know how Inuyasha holds a grudge and that guy pissed him off from the get go.”

Kagura hit her fist on the table. “You know what? Fuck you. That's completely different all right. I'm not dating Sesshoumaru and trying to fuck Inuyasha at the same time.”

Miroku cleared his throat, keeping his silence. He looked nervous but Kagura didn't notice being too caught up in her rant. “On top of that, he thinks he can get action every time he feels like it.”

“Kagura, babe, I think. . .”

“He thinks he so fucking high and mighty and he gets to decide to who I get to be around. I bet even if I did start dating, he'd still want an occasional screw.” She said her voice getting louder.

“Kagura, shut up.” Miroku tried to get her attention because eyes were starting to drift their way.

“Goddammit, he pisses me off. Fucking horny bastard.”

“Kagura, shut the hell up.” Miroku yelled finally getting her attention.

She snapped her head in his direction, “What?”

He cleared his throat, discreetly indicating to the curious eyes that were focusing their attention on Kagura's yelling.

A very sheepish expression covered her face, as she laid her head down on the table. “God, I hate my mouth sometimes.”

Miroku just shook his head, getting up and sitting next to Kagura. “It's ok, babe, everyone already knows about you and Inuyasha's occasional. . .fu. . .um. . .escapades.” He wrapped his arm around her, “He'll get over it. I think you just stung his pride a little more than you meant to.”

Kagura looked up at him, holding back tears. “You don't know Inuyasha like I do. He'll hold a grudge to his grave if he has to.”

If Miroku noticed the quiver in her voice, he didn't comment. Sighing he checked for teachers. “I say me and you ditch fourth block and go out to the park or something.”

Kagura bit her lip thinking about it, “Ok, but let's not go to the park, ok?”

Miroku smiled, “And why is that, Kagura? That used to be your favorite place.”

Despite the tears threatening to run down her face, she grinned. “No reason.”

Miroku laughed, eyes scanning the lunch room, “If we go out the north hallway, I think we'll be safe. Most of the teachers in that hall are at lunch right now so we can sneak out if we're quiet.”

Kagura laughed, following Miroku's lead out of the lunch room, “Oh Miroku, how do you always know how to make me feel better?”

Miroku just shrugged, holding out his arm for her to hook elbows. “I'm good like that.”

“At least you're good at something.” She mumbled under her breath.

“What was that, Kagura? I couldn't quite hear you.” He said, smirking.

“Nothing.” She said quickly.

Miroku just shook his head, “Kagura, some day you're smart mouth is going to get your ass kicked.”

“Except not.” She stated opening the door to Miroku's car after a quick scan of the parking lot. “You know I can hold my own just fine.”

Miroku nodded, starting up his car. “I know you can. But sometimes, Kagura, being able to hold your own physically isn't enough or very important.”

“I know, Miroku.” She said softly.

“No, I don't think you do.” He said ardently. “Kagura, the world isn't going to bend for you just because you can cuss it out and people aren't going to respect you just because you can kick their ass.”

“What do you mean?” She asked, her voice still quiet.

“You are the toughest person I know but I don't think you need to be. You've held up this wall for so long, I almost wonder if it's permanently there.” He pulled up to McDonalds, turning to her as he shut the car off. “The only person you've ever really opened up to is Inuyasha and he's got enough issues of his own.”

She rolled her eyes, “So what are you trying to tell me, Miroku?”

He half smiled, almost sadly. “I just think Kagura that you should rid yourself of this the whole world is out to get me attitude and allow yourself a little more happiness.” He leaned forward and kissed her cheek, “You're so beautiful, Kagura. Don't make the inside ugly.”

She smiled wanly, not knowing what to say.

He squeezed her hand somewhat reassuringly, “Let's go get some ice cream, babe. On me, all right?”

She smiled, wrapping her arm around his waist as they walked into McDonalds. “Thanks, Miroku.”

Sango yawned widely as she walked down the hall. She hadn't slept very well last night and it didn't help that at three in the morning, she was hit with an inspiration for a poem. Finishing it took her most of the rest of the morning so she just gave up on sleep and got ready for school a little early.

“Where the fuck did she go? And with that stupid lecher, too.”

Sango turned to see a very disgruntled looking teenage boy. “What's wrong, Inuyasha?” She asked holding back another yawn.

“Kagura.” He spat out. “I think the bitch left school with Miroku.”

Sango bit back on her tongue, “Wait. She left with Miroku? Aren't you and her the ones who usually skip school?”

Inuyasha glared at her, “Yes, yes we are.” He slammed his locker shut, “She left just to piss me off.”

Sango faked a yawn to hide the smile that was threatening to come, “Inuyasha, I'm sure she didn't leave just to spite you.”

“Oh, no no no no. You don't know, Kagura. She'd do that exactly. When she's pissed, she'll stop at nothing to make sure everyone knows it.” Inuyasha stated matter of factly.

“Now, why exactly is Kagura mad at you?” Sango asked casually.

Inuyasha turned to her, studying her face. She shifted from one foot to the other; his stare was making her nervous. “C'mon, I'm ditching, too. You wanna come?”

She cocked her head, “Now, Inuyasha, are you using me to get back at Kagura?”

“No.” He paused, “Maybe.” He laughed out loud, much of his former anger fading. “Ok, a little.”

She grinned and grabbed his hand, “All right, let's get out of here. And then you can explain to me what you did to deserve Kagura's wrath.”

He wrapped his fingers with hers; a feeling of contentment warmed him as he guided her out the one door he knew would be clear. “Hey, I never deserve Kagura's wrath.”

She giggled into her hand, pretending to mask it. “I know, Inuyasha, the injustice of it all.”

“That's right, wench.”

“So what did happen, Oh Great Inuyasha?” She asked playfully.

“Keh.” Inuyasha said simply, walking out to the parking lot. “It's not important.”

Sango shook her head, amazed at how obvious males could be, “Inuyasha?” She stopped walking making him turn to face her. “What did you do?”

He bit his lip, clicking the unlock button on his keys. “Like I said, woman, it's not important.”

“Why do you have Kagura's car?” Sango asked accusingly.

“Um . . . it's a long story.” He answered not meeting her eyes as he sat in the drivers seat.

Sango laughed. “Oh, Inuyasha, humor me. We have all day.”

Inuyasha pursed his lips together debating on how exactly he was going to explain this to Sango. She knew what went on with him and Kagura but describing the reasons for their fight was less than delightful not to mention uncomfortable.

Inuyasha could feel his ears getting warm, “Let's just say we had a disagreement about Sesshoumaru and then we argued when Kagura took a temporary vow of um . . . celibacy.”

She made a little oh with her mouth, realization hitting her. “So you're jealous of Sesshoumaru and Kagura's not allowed to be jealous of Kagome whom everyone can tell you really like whether you know it yet or not.”

She looked to Inuyasha for agreement but he crossed his arms, still not starting the car, “Keh.”

She shook her head. “So you still want some and Kagura's got way too much pride to give it up again. Plus she's got the hots for Sesshoumaru no matter what she says about him.”

Inuyasha looked in amazement. “How the fuck do you do that, Sango?”

She shrugged, a small smile playing on her face. “I'm just that good.” She smiled encouragingly and patted Inuyasha's hand. “Sorry to say it but you both are wrong in this. I think you both have to decide if you're really interested in other people because this whole thing is completely unhealthy for the both of you.”

Inuyasha rolled his eyes, “So I've heard.” He groaned starting up the car. “I know I need to talk to Kagura but she's pissed and she's not gonna listen to me.”

“I don't know, Yasha, I think you two need to talk about it.”

Inuyasha laughed dryly, “Kagura is the only person I know who can hold a grudge as long as I can.”

Sango smiled a little, “Yea, I guess she is.”

A silence fell over them as they drove. Sango sighed, “Are you gonna give back her car?”

Inuyasha laughed again, this time with humor in it. “I suppose I could give Miroku the keys and have him give it back. At least until she cools down a little.”

She grinned, finding some morbid humor in this whole situation. “I think that would be a good idea.”

Kagura laid back on the big rock that stood by the river. Her and Yasha used to come down here and watch the water rush by. As kids the large stone was big enough to allow both of them to sit on it. Now it barely allowed enough room for her to stretch out.

She sighed as she closed her eyes. It's been a week since she skipped school with Miroku. And even longer than that when she last spoke to Inuyasha. She did give him credit for giving her car back to her.

Not talking to Inuyasha kept her from getting a lot of her stress out. Sure, she could talk to Miroku but he'd been spending a lot of time with Sango lately. Kagura smiled to herself.

`They really are cute together.'

And she knew Yasha had been hanging out with Sango more than he used to but mostly because Inuyasha was always closer to females. He never connected well to Miroku but did really well with Sango.

On top of everything, due to her sour mood she hadn't made one effort to talk to Sesshoumaru this week at rehearsal. All the scenes they were working on were mostly Jekyll scenes so Kagura's character didn't interact with Sesshoumaru's as much.

And she was way too bitchy this week to risk ruining the slight beginning her and Sesshy had. She groaned out loud and rolled over, pressing her forehead to the cool stone.

“You know you're cute when you're aggravated.”

“Go away.” She said muffled into her rock.

“Kagura, you have to talk to me sometime.”

She lifted her head to meet his golden gaze. `God, it was so piercing.' “No, I don't.”

He sighed and leaned against her stone chair watching the water.

Kagura waited for him to say something but he was silent. “All right, what do you want, Yasha?”

He looked at her surprised like he forgot she was there. He looked back to water, ignoring her question. “Remember when you got bit by that spider when we were looking for craw dads?”

Kagura nodded, not understanding why something that happened years ago was the topic of their conversation. “It was a Brown Recluse, wasn't it?”

Inuyasha nodded still staring at the water. “You got pissed because I got you wet when I tried to wash it off.” He chuckled to himself. “If I remember right I suggested you could take your shirt off and you tried to hit me.”

Kagura smiled despite her frustration. She did remember that and she did hit him. Hit him hard for suggesting that but then she got sick all of a sudden. She remembered falling in the water and then waking up in the hospital the next day. The doctors told her she had gone into shock soon after the bite and usually bites from brown recluses weren't dangerous. But her sensitivity level to insects was high and it affected her worse than most people.

“Inuyasha?”

“Hm?”

“What happened after I fell?” She asked. For some reason, she never asked as children because it had never occurred to her until now.

“I picked you up and carried you to your house.” He said nonchalantly, shrugging.

She sat up suddenly. “Wait, we were like 10 and you carried me six blocks.”

Inuyasha gave a small smile, “Actually we were 9 and I carried you eight blocks.”

She looked him sharply, studying him closely. “How come you never told me?”

“I didn't think it was important. I was just glad you were all right. You really scared me that day.” He looked back at her meeting her eyes and not letting go. “I didn't want to even be away from you after that even though I knew you were going to be ok, I didn't want you to be in trouble and me not there to protect you.”

“I don't need you to protect me anymore. I can take care of myself.” She said quietly.

“I know but it's hard for me to just let you do something that really bothers me.”

“Yasha, you're my best friend, my first love, and my brother.” She turned away from his gaze. “But you're not my father and even though I don't have one, I don't need you to be anything more for me.”

He sighed, “Not your lover either?”

She looked back at him. “Inuyasha, who did you spend time with all week?”

“Sango.” He answered quickly.

“And when Sango was with Miroku, which I know for a fact was often?”

Her question was met by silence then a stifled sigh. “Kagome.”

She looked at him, her head cocked thoughtfully. “Why?”

“Why what?” His voice sounding irritated.

“Why do you want both me and Kagome?”

He growled, “I never said that.”

“Come on, Inuyasha. I know you better than anyone.”

He sighed leaning back against a tree and closing his eyes. “That's just it. You know me better than anyone. I've grown up with you and I know everything about you. After Kikyo cheated on me I didn't know who to trust and yet I knew you were always there. On top of that, Kagura, you're sexy as hell and good as fuck in bed.”

He smiled a little as he looked at her, “But it isn't just attraction, Kagura, with you I know I'm safe. I'm safe from lies and from getting my heart broken. I'm safe from being abandoned and forgetting what it's like to be loved. Because I know you fear the same things and you'll do all you can to make sure I'm safe. And you know no matter what I'm doing the same thing for you.”

She closed her eyes tightly, trying to hold back tears that were threatening to fall. “Ok, now why Kagome?”

“She's definitely not you but she makes me happy. She's so bright and hopeful and yet has enough realism to make her, well realistic.” He was watching Kagura, “I always thought you were so passionate at everything. Anger, desire, everything. Just looking at your eyes screams for me to touch you but she's a different passionate. Like she's made it her goal without even meaning to that she wants me to feel the other emotions. Like happiness and satisfaction, things I've spent too much of my life not knowing.”

He shrugged, “I mean, yea, she's beautiful but it's her smile that makes her that way. Or maybe just the fact that she's so innocent that makes her attractive. Either way, she makes me want to be a better person without even trying.”

They met eyes, studying each other, trying to read each other's eyes as they locked gazes. “Inuyasha, we shouldn't do this anymore.”

He sighed breaking eye contact. “No, we shouldn't.” He tapped Kagura on her hip, indicating for her to scoot over. Wrapping his arms around her, he kissed her on the forehead, “ I'm sorry, Kagura. I overreacted.”

She smiled and shrugged, “Maybe if I wasn't such a bitch sometimes it wouldn't have happened.”

Inuyasha chuckled a little, “Nah, it was bound to happen. I'm not sure why we never believed one of us would eventually find someone else.”

Kagura nodded. Neither of them had really thought their whole relationship out. It was easier to both of them to just pretend it didn't matter.

Author's Note: I wanted to get this chapter posted as soon as possible because to me, I think it sets the rest of the story because it shows growth but it also is very important to me for a lot of personal reasons. I really hope my audience is enjoying reading this story as much I am writing it.

I want to thank Too for reviewing. Complimenting me on originality is probably one of the best comments that someone can give a Fan Fiction writer. Thank you.
