Chapter 4: Not as I seem

Recap

"Kagome?" Kouga asked rubbing his eyes making sure that he wasn't day dreaming.

"Hey Kouga. Long time no talk ne?" Kagome said smiling.

---

"Is that really you?" Kouga asked, he was pretty sure that his eyes and ears were playing tricks on him.

"Of course it's me baka," Kagome said.

"Your back," Kouga said matter-of-factly.

"What did you expect? Naraku?" Kagome asked. Kouga scowled at her, then grinned. His Kagome was back, and he would do everything in his power to make sure that she stayed….for good. 'That baka hanyou better not do anything.' Kouga thought. After all, it had been a good seven years since he had seen her. Wasn't that enough punishment that the Kami's decided to put him through?

"Kagome, what is up with your scent?" Kouga asked sniffing her. Sesshoumaru snorted, 'Baka ookami,' he thought. Rin gave her mate a glare and he sent one right back.

"You don't like it?" Kagome asked smirking.

"You smell like, -sniff-, an ookami!" Kouga exclaimed.

"And they think I'm stupid," Inuyasha muttered under his breath.

"Of course you are Inuyasha, your just in denial," Shippou sneered.

"Why you little runt!" Inuyasha said and was about to chase him, but Kikyou glared at him.

"You will stay put Inuyasha," Kikyou said.

"Feh," Inuyasha said.

"Good little inu-hanyou," Shippou mocked.

"Shippou enough," Kagome said sternly.

"Yes okaa-san," Shippou said. Princess snickered, she hadn't seen her mate obey immediately to anyone, besides herself that is.

"That's right be a good little runt and shutup," Inuyasha said. Kagome eyed him, she saw the rosary beads that was still around his neck. Kagome grinned evilly 'perfect'.

"Inuyasha?"

"What is it?"

"Sit," Kagome said and watched with glee as Inuyasha's face met the dirt for the first time in seven years. Everyone burst out laughing, while Sesshoumaru let out a small smile. Something Kagome was shocked to see since she hadn't seen the demon lord smile before.

"Inuyasha, reacquaint yourself with the dirt," Kagome sneered.

"You were much nicer 7 years ago," Inuyasha muttered.

"Shutup wolf turd, Kagome why do you smell like an ookami youkai?" Kouga asked curiously.

"That answer should be obvious," Kagome answered.

"So your saying that you're an ookami youkai?" Kouga asked in disbelief.

"And the Kami's grace him with a brain," Kagome muttered. That sent a chorus of laughter throughout all the youkai's present, except Sesshoumaru, he just smiled. The rest who didn't have the ears that the youkai's did stared around in confusion until Shippou told them. Kouga scowled, this wasn't how he planned his reunion with Kagome.

"Kagome, come inside and explained to me what you meant," Kouga said beckoning her to follow. Kagome did as she was told and the other's followed her as well. They were lead to the main part of the den, Kagome could see that this was a different one then the one Kouga brought her too when she was 'kidnapped'.

"So?" Kouga said hoping for an explanation to why his 'woman' smelt like an ookami youkai. Not to mention the fact that she has wings, and she kind of looks like one.

"So what?" Kagome asked pretending to be confused as she sat on a rock.

"Explain to me why you are an ookami youkai," Kouga said. The others turned away having heard the explanation for what seemed like a millionth time. The children went to go play with the pups that were around, while the adults settled for a game of 'Go Fish.' Kagome watched amusedly, as Sesshoumaru won the first game.

"Do you really want to know?" Kagome asked turning her attention to Kouga.

"Yes I really want to know," Kouga said.

"Promise to let me finish my explanation without jumping into conclusions?" Kagome pressed.

"I promise," Kouga promised.

"Okay, well I'm from 7 years in the past," Kagome muttered. If Kouga was ningen, then he wouldn't have heard what Kagome said, but he was youkai so he heard. Kouga looked at her in pure and utter shock. Kouga opened his mouth waiting for sound to come out, but it didn't. He closed it and opened it again this time he only managed a squeak.

"Geeze, he acts like I told him that Naraku and I mated," Kagome mumbled. Inuyasha heard this and immediately started being the overprotective hanyou that Kagome grew to get annoyed at. Kagome watched as Inuyasha stalked over to her, she caught Sesshoumaru's eye and could see that he was amused.

"YOU AND NARAKU DID WHAT?!?!" Inuyasha bellowed causing all youkai's in the room to wince.

"Nothing," Kagome said.

"What do you mean nothing?"

"Exactly what it means," Kagome snapped getting annoyed.

"Inu-baka shutup, okaa-san needs to talk to Kouga-san," Shippou said.

"Shut up runt," Inuyasha barked.

"Inuyasha get back here," Kikyou said, more like ordered. Inuyasha gave one last glare at Kagome and walked back to his mate. Just as he was about to sit down, Kagome muttered the 's' word and Inuyasha personally got to know when the dirt would have babies.

-Kouga's P.O.V.-

I can't believe what she just told me! It's impossible! How can someone so perfect be from 7 years in the past? That means she must be 16 years old, in human terms. If she's not the Kagome I know and love, then should I continue to love her? But she is still the same person, or is she? She will grow I guess, but then what about all the memories we had together? This is not good.

Should I get used to it? How are the other's okay with this? They seem perfectly fine with it. I mean of course they would, it's Kagome. But then again she's not. I look to Sesshoumaru. I see him shake his head, what the hell could he mean by that? I look at him with a puzzled look on my face. He glares at me, oh I get it now. The other's aren't okay with it. Are they faking it? I look at him again, and he nods.

Freaky, over the years Sesshoumaru and I have gotten close, and the ice lord isn't that bad to say the least. I'm still trying to process this information. I can't believe it, here I was about to propose my undying love to Kagome -yet again- but she isn't who I thought she was.

"Kagome, how did this happen?" I ask her.

"Well, yesterday there was a huge boom that came from the well. And I went to go check it out, it looked like nothing harmed it so I didn't do anything. I went through the well with my pack, knowing fully that Inuyasha would scream at me if I got there late. So when I got there and didn't hear Inuyasha scream, and insult me I got confused. Then I saw Shippou and he took me to Kaede's. Kaede asked me what type of magic surrounded the well when I jumped in. I told her purple, then she asked me what magic usually surrounds it, and it's blue. So when I jumped in it was blue, but I came back it was purple light. And I have to wait for about another million years for that god damn well to -boom- again but by that time I'll be dead and Martians would have taken over the planet, and I'm a fate ookami youkai," She explains. Martians? What are those? Wait fate ookami youkai? This keeps getting complicated.

"Kagome what are Martians?" the monk asks.

"Aliens," She responds. Aliens?

"Aliens?" The demon exterminator asked confused.

"Never mind," Kagome from the past says. I nod and walk off telling everyone I'm going to process this information.

-End Kouga's P.O.V.-

Kagome watched as Kouga walked off to some other part of the den. She could sense that he didn't completely trust her. Actually she knew that everyone didn't trust her because she was from the past. She knew they were trying to play it cool, but they were such bad actors. And what hurt her the most was that Shippou didn't believe her also.

"I'll be outside," Kagome mumbled and they nodded not paying attention to her. Kagome felt a pang of pain go through her heart. Sure she only knew these future people for only a few hours, but she was still their Kagome wasn't she? No. She wasn't 'their' Kagome. Their Kagome was somewhere else, their Kagome was to go back to where her friends were. To Kagome, her life was already lived, and she wasn't okay with that. No, she could have gotten used to the fact that she was from the past, and they were from the future. If they gave it an effort to get used to it as well. But they didn't, and they couldn't. And that's what pained Kagome the most, because she was willing to let go of friendships she built in order to start new ones. And they…they wanted the Kagome they knew, the one they built memories with. Not the one who was 16 years old and didn't have all the memories.

All of a sudden, Kagome didn't feel to good about staying here and protecting those who need to be protected. She accepted her fate all those years ago. Why couldn't she accept it now? Now when she was going through all the things the youngest Kami had told her, why couldn't she accept it? Kagome had all these things running through her head that she couldn't even think straight, if it wasn't for Hakkaku, she would've been on the ground dead, well not really. But right now Kagome didn't give two cents. She had just been named the outcast of people she cared about. Sure they were different people, but inside they were still the same people she knew and loved. Why couldn't they see that?

"Are you okay sister Kagome?" Hakkaku asked coming over to her.

"Yes, thank you Hakkaku," Kagome said warmly.

"Your welcome sister Kagome," Hakkaku said.

"You can stop calling me that you know," Kagome said leaping into the air and settling on the other side of the waterfall. Hakkaku landed gently beside her.

"Why should I stop calling you that sister?" Hakkaku asked confused.

"You heard what I told Kouga in the den right?" Kagome asked looking at him straight in the eye.

"Of course sister," Hakkaku said, but he was still confused.

"Then why do you still call me sister? I mean I wasn't there with all of you to share memories you now treasure, and I'm not really the Kagome you know," Kagome explained.

"I see what you are talking about now. Yes even though you may be from the past does not mean that you are some kind of stranger. Because you are not, you are still the happy bubbly girl I once knew. You may be from the past but that does not mean you aren't the person I grew to know and love as a sister," Hakkaku answer.

"But-"

"No buts young one," Hakkaku said, Kagome scowled when he called her young one. Hakkaku just laughed, yup that was his sister.

"I don't see what's funny Hakkaku," Kagome mumbled.

"They probably don't see it now, but they will in time. You are still the same person, you didn't change. Even if it may take you 7 more years to gain their trust. Then so be it, a life with friends and love is better then a life with no friends and no one to love," Hakkaku said and with that he left. Kagome whirled around to find that Hakkaku wasn't there.

"You are so very right Hakkaku. But there is one thing that you are not right about. I have no friends here, my friends are 7 years back in the past," Kagome said softly with a lone tear flowing freely down her face. She leapt into the sky her wings beating strongly behind her. Little did she know that Hakkaku had heard her.

"Oh but you are wrong young one. They will realise soon enough that you are who you are, and that they should be thankful, because once again you have graced our lives," Hakkaku whispered.

---

Kouga was in his personal room in the den. He had, had Sesshoumaru blow it up to make the den bigger. He sat down on his futon, what Kagome told him just kept replaying over and over again in his head. 'How can she be from the past?' Kouga asked himself. 'How can something so beautiful and perfect betray him like that?' Kouga kicked himself after that thought. No, she didn't betray him, it wasn't her fault that she was sent to future.

Kouga had waited for such a long time for this moment to happen. He had waited for Kagome to come running back into his arms. Unfortunately for him, fate wasn't smiling down on him. Heck! Fate never was! But Kouga just couldn't help but hope, and pray to Kami that somehow some way he could have the love of his love back into his life. That didn't happen though, no he had to get stuck with someone he barely knew.

You didn't care back then that you didn't know her. The first time you laid your eyes on her and you knew that she could see the Shikon Shards you called her your mate. What's stopping you now?

A voice in his head argued with him. They were right, he did. Kouga ran a hand through his hair, well the part that wasn't tied. He heard feet coming towards his personal room. He sniffed the air, it was the inu-tachi. (A/N: Spelling?) Minus Kagome and add Hime, Sesshoumaru and Rin.

"Kouga?" Rin called. Sesshoumaru's arm wrapped around her shoulder.

"Come in," Kouga said though it sounded like a squeak. The new gang made their way into Kouga's room and made themselves comfortable. Well, as comfortable as you can get what with all the tension in the air. They looked around the room, waiting for someone to speak. They didn't know what to do, everyone was still in a state of shock, on the verge to telling Kagome to go back because they didn't need her. They managed just fine without her for 7 years, now Kagome from the past was sent to them to make all their sorrows were gone, out the window? No. That just would not work.

"Should we trust her?" Sango asked finally not being able to tolerate the silence.

"I don't know love," Miroku said thoughtfully, he put a hand on her knee reassuring her.

"She's not Kagome," Inuyasha said.

"Of course she's Kagome! She looks like her doesn't she?" Shippou said through clenched teeth.

"Looks can be deceiving Shippou," Miroku said.

"That is true," Hime said. Kouga scowled at her, she shouldn't be in this. 'Don't loose your temper over this.'

"It may not be my place, but just give it a try, maybe then you won't regret anything," Hime said before leaving. She hoped that the group didn't make a wrong decision, that can drive away the miko that they wanted back for so many years. Because if they did, then they just lost out on many things. Kouga, on his love, the other's on their friend.

[.End Chapter 4.]
