Chapter Four

…:|:…

Kami-sama! How could this happen! Inuyasha paces endlessly in circles on his patio outside. He couldn't believe fate was this cruel to him. At the party, he had to ask the lady to excuse his daughter without explaining to her or Aiko. He never thought he would see the lady ever again. When he saw her at the party with the make-up, at first he couldn't place the familiar face. She was beautiful… just like six years ago. Even with the make-up, Inuyasha could strongly see her smoky grey eyes, her heart-shaped face, and her full, tempting lips. She had grown a lot since he last saw her. Inuyasha knew it was rude to leave the lady in a baffled state, but he didn't know what to do. It was too startling and tonight Inuyasha was suppose to tell Aiko the truth, but now it will be more difficult. Especially trying to explain the woman at the party. Inuyasha halts, hearing his daughter's pleading voice inside the house.

"Mommy…Mommy…Where are you?"

Aiko walks down the stairs, calling out. She couldn't sleep. She misses her mother.

"Mommy…"

Aiko strolls around the living room then to the dining room, looking. She knew her Mommy wouldn't be there, but a child could hope.

Inuyasha enters the living to see Aiko walking around the dining table, "Aiko…"

Aiko turns around. She walks to her father who is silent, "Daddy, where's Mommy?"

Inuyasha bends down, putting his hands on her shoulders. Inuyasha watches grief-stricken as Aiko begins to cry, "Aiko, don't cry…You want to open your gifts?" He tries to lift Aiko's spirit.

"I don't want to open my gifts…I want Mommy." Aiko continues to sob, breaking Inuyasha's heart. "Where's Mommy?...Why did you ask her to leave?"

Inuyasha looks on as Aiko's tears multiply.

"That was bad, Daddy…You're bad!"

Inuyasha swallows the immense lump in his throat, "Aiko, listen to Daddy…Daddy will tell you something."

Aiko cries out, "I want Mommy…I want Mommy."

"Aiko, I-I…" Inuyasha stops. He hugs his daughter close, "We'll look for Mommy, okay?...Don't cry anymore…We'll look for Mommy." Inuyasha carries Aiko up the stairs and to her bed.

…:|:…

That night, Inuyasha called the people who hired the dancing trees. He found what he needed; her home phone number, where she lived, and her name: Kagome Higurashi. At the morning, he called her to assign a meeting at a local restaurant. His mother came along with him. Saying she was partly guilty, but Inuyasha had a notion it was also for the free food. When Inuyasha waited for Kagome Higurashi to appear, he was bewildered to find her bring three people along. He's first impression was she was using him (and that she had a good figure), but she quickly clarified; (Maybe from his surprised face) that they wouldn't leave her alone till she let them come. So now, his mother, Kirara, Sango, and Miroku were all eating, emptying his wallet, while Inuyasha explains to Kagome.

"Six years ago, we rode in the same bus...You were wearing a white dress and carrying a book…You left your graduation picture in the bus…Aiko would only stop crying if she saw your picture…And while she was growing, my mom told Aiko that you're her mother."

Kioko lifts up her head from her food. She smiles at Kagome sheepishly.

Inuyasha continues, "You will only do one simple thing: Pretend you're Aiko's mother."

Kagome, baffled, sharply looks at Inuyasha, "What?!"

"Our objective is to eventually tell Aiko the truth…I, myself, will tell Aiko the truth…We have one month and I'm offering you 12,000¥."

Kirara abruptly looks up from her food, "Kagome, that's too small. We're going to New Zealand, remember?" Kirara smiles encouragingly.

Inuyasha glances at Kirara, then to Kagome, "15,000¥"

"That's too low." Kagome replies.

"25,000¥"

"What?!" Miroku is astounded the man would climb such great heights for his daughter's happiness.

"Call!" Kagome makes the deal.

"It's a deal." They shake on their agreement and are both stun. They feel a shock, a jolt when they touch…but both don't speak of it as they let go.

Who knew this guy could have such soft hands and that shock-what was it? Kagome thinks while watching Inuyasha hand paper and pen to her.

"What is that?" Kagome asks.

"A contract…So it's clear that we'll not run from each other."

"Wow, you act like a lawyer." Kagome sarcastically comments.

"I am a lawyer." Inuyasha informs.

"A lawyer!" Miroku, Kirara, and Sango exclaim in unison.

Kioko grins, "Ranked sixth in the bar exams." She gloats about her intelligent son.

"Ranked sixth in bar exams!" The trio shouts in unison, once more.

Inuyasha turns to Kagome, "So?...Are you going to sign?"

"I am." For some reason Kagome is irritated at this intelligent and handsome Inuyasha. Maybe because he's smart, went to college, and has a stable job. Receiving the pen and paper, Kagome ignores the evil voice in her head, and proceeds to sign.

…:|:…

"What kind of job?"

Etsu asks her daughter who is packing her bags. She is watching her while sits on Kagome's bed.

"They just told me I'm going to portray a role." Please believe it, Kagome pleads in her head.

"Really?...Movie or commercial?" Toshiro comes in Kagome's room hearing her.

"They didn't say…only that I'm going to undergo a workshop first." Kagome explains.

"Oh! Well tha-"

Etsu cuts off her husband, "That sounds suspicious…I'm sure it's an illegal job."

Kagome stops packing. She looks at her mother. "Mom, why don't you trust me?...Just give this to me so I can go aboard."

She walks out of her room and to her parent's room. She comes back with holding blue tennis shoes.

"And these shoes…They're mine…Why do you insist it's yours." Kagome finishes her packing.

"You gave them to me." Etsu innocently reply.

"Etsu, let's just give leave her alone…You won't lend her money anyway." Kagome's dad remarks.

"Go ahead…Side with your daughter." Etsu angrily reply.

Kagome sighs. "I need to do this mom."

Etsu stands up from the bed, "Why?"

"I have an ambition." Kagome explains.

"What is it?" Her mother asks.

Kagome glances at her mother…then to her father, looking for help.

"Whatever your ambition is, search for it!" Toshiro exclaims, "Be where you are happy!"

…:|:…

Kagome is uncomfortable with the silence in the car. She was picked up form Inuyasha. She would now be leaving her house and live at his place for a month. What have I gotten myself into? She is now in Inuyasha's car and they haven't said a word to each other. She tries to break the silence.

"Why don't you have your car tinted? It's bright, you know?" Baka! Why can't I say anything but that! Way to go Kagome, you'll just complain the whole way now.

Luckily to Kagome, Inuyasha ignores her comment. "Remember, you're intelligent…Brave…You came from Africa to help the victims of famine and AIDS…You're willing to die for peace…"

Kagome interjects, "You got to be kidding me."

"…Because you want a peaceful world for your children."

"Oh!...I'm a hero!" She sarcastically exclaims.

"This is serious." Inuyasha informs her, "You can make or break my daughter…You can help her accept her real identity…You can also traumatize her for life…That's why you have to listen to me…am I clear?"

Kagome exclaims, "Crystal!...I'm sorry. I make mistakes you know?...I'm only human."

Inuyasha continues, "You're calm…You're not a troublemaker…You're refined…Breeding."

Kagome smiles, "Oi!...Wow that's really me!"

"Looks like it." Inuyasha rolls his eyes at her sarcastic interpretations. He continues to drive.

…:|:…

"Nanny, do I smell good?" Aiko is walking downstairs to meet her mom. She is with her Nanny who helped her take a bath and dress her up in her new indigo dress she got for her birthday. Her silver hair was made into a French braid. She was cheery, but anxious at the same time.

Nanny sniffs Aiko's hair, "Yes! I'm sure your Mommy will be happy to see you!"

They walk down to the final step. Aiko looks up to see her Daddy walk in from the front door.

Inuyasha looks at his daughter, "Aiko."

Aiko smiles at her Daddy…She then sees a woman come in the house.

Kagome greets Aiko, "Hi Baby!"

"Mommy!" Aiko runs to her Mommy's open arms.

Kagome grasps the flying girl. She hugs her 'daughter' firmly, who is now kissing her repeatedly on her cheeks.

"I love you Mommy."

"I love you too Baby." She whispers back at the happy girl.

Inuyasha stares on wondering if it was a mistake.

Kagome, still holding onto Aiko, questions, What have I got myself into?
