Ch 6 - Somewhere I Belong

"...used bats to carry bombs during the war..."

Kagome was drifting in and out of the lecture her history teacher was giving. Even though Kagome was best at history, there was no way she going to be able to stay up after the night she had. She almost didn't even make it to school. Souta had to wake her up 3 times before she actually got up. He had asked about her night, she could only give him a mumbled excuse about hanging with Yura. She tried to look somewhat decent for school, but that didn't happen. She looked like shit, but she didn't care.

After the bell final rung of the eternity class, she went to her locker. She had 3 more classes before she could leave. She was still figuring out what she needed for her next class when someone knocked on her locker. She turned to a very mad looking Hojo.

She gave him a peculiar look, "You do know where you are right?"

"HA HA HA Kagome." He said sarcastically, "Come on. We're leaving." He grabbed her arm and started pulling her to the school exit. She wrenched her arm from his grasp and shut her locker; she then grabbed her yellow backpack. And walked out with him.

"Where are we going?" she asked as they got in his car. It was actually pretty nice; obliviously Sesshoumaru wanted everyone to ride around in style. Kagome didn't have a car; in fact she didn't know how to drive. She never really saw a reason to learn; she already knew she wouldn't have enough money to afford one.

Hojo started the car and began pulling out of the parking lot. "Sesshoumaru wants to see you."

"oh" she said dumbly. She looked out of the window at the shrinking building of her school. She had already made the decision to join but she was still second guessing herself. *Now I jump.* Kagome always thought things thru and planned, but now she couldn't. She knew she was a controlling person at least about things that affected that her life. And now she was giving control to someone she didn't know.

*Wasn't that faith?*

Hojo stopped her thinking when he burst thru with a question of his own, "Why are you doing this Kagome?" They were at a red light so he was looking at her.

"Doing what?" she asked, turning to him.

He looked at her stupidly and glanced back at the light, "Why are you joining? You don't know what you're getting into."

"I can take care of myself Hojo." She said while crossing her arms and turning her head to stare out of her window. Kagome heard a sigh and the car started to roll. He was quiet for a while. His next question caught her off guard though.

"You know what they'll make you do to get in right?"

Kagome blushed. Hojo looked at her carefully, "See! You can't even talk about fucking without blushing. You don't belong, it's too dangerous." He said sternly.

"I did perfectly fine last night." She said smugly.

"You were lucky. And the ONLY reason you didn't die was because Inuyasha saved your ass. And no one knows so don't say shit to anyone about that. Naraku will be mad and Sesshoumaru...I don't know what he would do."

"It's too late to warn me Hojo. I'm already in."

"What about your dad? How would he feel?" he asked quietly. She couldn't believe he went there. Hojo was friends with her when her father died, he remembered how broken she looked. She stared out the window she couldn't look at him. They were almost there; she remembered the church from last night.

"Don't say that. I don't know what he would say because I don't remember the type of person he was. And I don't want you to ever speak about him again." she said calmly, trying not to let her voice crack. She never thought of her father anymore, he was just a memory.

They drove the rest of the way in silence. He turned at the corner before the warehouse and drove on the back lots. She had wondered how the cars go to the garage. It was in the back and looked like it belonged to a completely different building. As they got out Kagome wondered if it was the same as the front entrance with a hidden door. It was, but this time it cement-colored; matching with the drab wall. They walked down corridor; Kagome still didn't believe that this was happening. It was so quiet and no one was around. The plush carpet stilled the noise of their footsteps.

Hojo lead her to the same room she was in the night before. He opened the door for her and promptly closed the door behind her. It was just her, Sesshoumaru and that baboon tattoo guy.

"Hojo brought me to see you?" she said quietly. It was hard to look him in the eye. Sesshoumaru's face was emotionless and he stared right thru her. Baboon guy was looking her up and down and that just creeped her out. He had a smile on his face that would have made her shudder if she allowed it; instead she just focused her attention on Sesshoumaru.

"Naraku, leave us." It was a command, loud and clear.

Kagome was semi-nervous, full-blown scared. Naraku left them and Kagome's anxiety kicked in high speed. *Don't be scared. He can probably smell it. Eww. That's just freaky.*

*****

Inuyasha was a bit annoyed. He had been taking Shippou and Souta around the city all day. Instead of going to school the two had gone to Inuyasha's apartment and bugged him till he decided to do something with them. He knew he was supposed to meet Souta anyway, but he didn't feel like being a chauffer. The only reason Inuyasha hadn't started to complain was because it didn't seem like Souta got to have a lot of fun out of life. When Shippou had told him that the kid was serious, it was for real. Inuyasha could see it when he looked in the kid's eyes. On the surface he was smiling and laughing but Inuyasha looked into his eyes he saw this sorrow and anger that someone his age shouldn't have. It also didn't hurt that the kid really liked Inuyasha anyway.

Shippou had told him a little about Souta's past. It was hard for Shippou to get any information out of Souta in the first place. He was very secretive person. He reminded Inuyasha of himself when he was younger. Souta did loose his father when he was young, younger than Inuyasha was.

They were heading back to Souta's place. Inuyasha felt it best to make a proposition when on that person's territory. He had no doubts that Souta would probably join; Shippou needed a friend his age and someone to scout with. Inuyasha still remembered why he joined the Wolves in the first place. Inuyasha still thought that joining was the best decision he ever made in his fucked-up life.

~~~~~BACKGROUND~~~~
Inuyasha wasn't a little punk per say. He did do the occasional car jack every now and then, but only because he "ABSOLUTELY" needed the money. He, Miroku and Kouga would go around scouting cars for days until the perfect time came up. That's just the way it was, in the beginning it was the three of them. Kouga the look out, because he was too damn chicken to do much else, Inuyasha and Miroku did all the dirty part. They never got caught, Kouga was a good look out and Inuyasha was just too fast. They would strip the car and sell the profit for an equal share. Actually, Inuyasha and Kouga didn't even need the money. Kouga's family owned several stores of their own that pulled in enough money, and Inuyasha could live off his father's insurance. If he didn't mind sharing with his bastard brother.
The only one who needed it was Miroku. He was the only son of a single mother. His father was a monk who couldn't keep his oath and who died of a sleeping sickness. His mother was sick also but she still worked because they needed the money. Miroku soon took it upon himself to get money for his dwindling family. They couldn't ask for help from relatives because there were none. His mother had never really met any of Miroku's father's family. And her family was basically non-existent. There wasn't a job that paid enough money that he could get at 16. Miroku saw it as a last alternative. But stealing and lifting did keep money in his pocket and food for him and his mother.
When she died, when he was 17, he was miserable but also happy that she didn't have to live her life anymore. He was still too young to be counted as an adult, so he moved in with Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru until he was 18. Miroku never wanted to live with Sesshoumaru again. The guy was mean and strange. He had a way of looking thru people that made it seem like they didn't even exist. He was strict too even though he wasn't the father. He never gave them money unless it was absolutely necessary. That was the mean reason they kept on stealing even after Miroku's mom died. The Wolves never came into their thoughts until they were 16.
There was a Wolves pack already in existence, but they were too young according to the leader then, Jashin. He didn't believe that the three of them were more than or could be more than petty thugs. What changed the man's mind was the last job they pulled when they were 18. Normally, they didn't steal objects like statues or really old stuff, just cars. But the last thing they took must have had some special significance to Jashin; it was a sword they had taken from some rich man's house called the Tenseiga.
Inuyasha could still remember the cool excitement in the man's face. The three of them were too young to understand the importance of the artifact. Jashin allowed them to join after they showed it him. They would have sold it but they saw entry into the gang worth it. After they gave Jashin the sword they never saw it again. Someone had told them the old man kept it in his room in a vault and after he died, he had it buried with him.
~~~~~END~~~

When they entered Souta's house, the first thing that hit Inuyasha was that scent. It was very familiar. As he sat in the living room, he looked around the room. His eyes fell upon the mantle that had a load of pictures upon it. He got up for a closer inspection. His eyes settled upon the raven- haired girl with the dark brown eyes.

*That's interesting...* Inuyasha smiled to himself. He wanted Souta to become a member now more then ever. *I could use this for my advantage. Maybe I can get back my jewel easier than I thought.* He turned around to the boys playing with Shippou's game-boy.

He pointed to the picture, "That your sister?"

Souta just nodded, "Yea. Why?"

Inuyasha just shook his head, "No reason just wondering." Souta just shrugged and went back to playing.

Inuyasha saw that Souta had a lot of fun today with them. That actually did make him feel good. Shippou had implied that Souta was on the outskirts of the groups in school. Inuyasha never felt like he ...fit somewhere before the Wolves. After his father died, he never felt like home was home and so he barely spent anytime there. Even though he went thru so much shit it was the only thing he could think that was the best for his life. He hoped that Souta felt the same in the end.

Kagome walked out of Sesshoumaru's office a bit dazed. She was only in there for 30 minutes but it was enough to tell her that Sesshoumaru was a man who got whatever he wanted. When she walked out Hojo was standing with Yura. They looked at her expectantly.

"What happened?" Yura asked anxiously.

"Uh. Well I'm now a member of the Demons." Kagome said slowly. She didn't know if she should really be excited or not. It wasn't like she was getting a scholarship; she got accepted into a gang. The two gave her peculiar looks.

"You slept with Sesshoumaru?" Hojo asked. That was odd. Sesshoumaru didn't initiate the girls. There were other guys for that.

Kagome shook her head quickly, "No No he said I didn't really need to be initiated because of last night."

They two nodded their heads. Kagome walked past them and towards what she hoped was the garage. She wanted to go home. She heard them behind her. She stopped walking and asked without turning around, "Is this way to the garage?"

Hojo said, "Yea. You wanna go home?" he was wondering why she was acting so weird.

She nodded and began walking again. She didn't really feel anything. Which she thought was odd; she usually had some type of opinion about something. But she was just speechless at this moment.

"Is there something wrong?" Yura asked in a concerned voice.

Kagome stopped walking and turned to face them, "I don't know. I told Sesshoumaru that I would sleep with someone but he said I didn't need to that I had proven myself already and that I was a special girl. I don't know what he meant but I know I didn't like it."

A/N: Thank you to everyone who writes a review and to all the ppl who read but don't write. This wasn't really an ending I know but I had to stop writing someplace. Jashin means Wicked Heart if you want to know.
