Belonging
Ch 8 - A Date with a Demon
*****
They hadn't seen each other in two weeks. But Inuyasha still remembered what she looked like. He stepped into the little shop, her back was to him; but that didn't matter all he needed was her scent. The scent reminded him of cherry-blossom trees.
Kagome's smell was wafting thru the air of the little shop. Her sweet scent still made Inuyasha's senses tingle. He had finally unmasked another element to her scent that he didn't understand. There was a tiny speck that reminded him of Kikyo mixed into her being. He had no idea how that came to be. He would figure that out later when he had time but right now he would focus on Kagome. She was wearing something very similar to what she wore at the club. Jeans and boots, but the shirt was less smutty this time around. But still, Inuyasha very much appreciated how nicely her clothes fit her.
He had concocted this impulsive plan to get back his jewel. He would gain the trust and friendship of Souta and Kagome. Then after that he didn't really know. Maybe if they heard the whole story, Kagome would help him get it back. If not he could always hold Souta hostage for it.
He silently sat beside her. Her head was turned in the opposite direction, *She must be looking for old lady Keade.* Inuyasha knew Keade very well, the old lady gave him free ice cream until she realized he was old enough to pay. She was also a very wise person that he could always speak to and know that she would never break his confidence. When Kagome finally turned to face him; the surprise was evident, clearly written on her face.
There was a small smile on her lips with her question, "What are you doing here?"
*She still remembers me.* That thought made Inuyasha happy for some reason. Even though it had been 2 weeks since the club he still could recall the look on her face when she was pointing the gun at him. It was a mixture of fear and anger. The only anger he could get would probably from him. It was so much though and he saw the same thing in the girl's little brother. Obviously, her life hadn't always been great. But now her face was so soft and the small smile lighted her features; it gave her a look of shyness and surprise. It was so different.
*Why am I thinking about her like this?*
Inuyasha looked around the shop, they were the only customers at the time. "Getting the usual shipment from Keade; you know some coke and guns." He said casually.
She gave him disbelieving look, "You're kidding right?"
*Kikyo would light my ass if she knew I was thinking about this girl or talking to her.*
*Oh Shit Kikyo.* Inuyasha had forgotten why he had even gone to the shop in the first place. He was supposed to go to her house, but now he couldn't. He had to get in with Kagome. Kikyo would just have to understand. But Inuyasha knew the slim chance of his miko understanding, so he had the better thought of lying. *I'll get Miroku to make up an alibi for me. Business or something.* All Inuyasha knew was that Kikyo could not know this; it would give her even more of an incentive to kill Kagome.
Inuyasha rolled his eyes at the gullible girl, "You think? I just want some ice cream."
Old lady Keade had chosen that time to come out from the back. As far as Inuyasha knew the woman was at least 65 if not older. Even though one would think she was frail and busy playing with grandkids, she was built strong and had no other family but herself. She had come to think of the children in her shop as her kids. And even after all this time she always remembered the orders of her favorite customers.
Even though Kagome was the closest to her she bypassed the girl completely and went straight to Inuyasha. He always had a different order. "And what would you like Inuyasha?"
"Just a carton of Cookie Dough ice cream." Inuyasha looked to Kagome who had a look of surprise on her face as to why Keade had skipped her, so did he but it was soon answered by the old woman's reply.
"Good you're having the same as Kagome-chan. She only comes here when she has a problem, but she always orders the same thing." Keade said confidently as she walked to the back.
Inuyasha turned back to look at the girl; *What's wrong?* Maybe if he helped her with the problem he could gain her trust quicker. But she didn't look like she wanted to talk, she had this suspicious look on her face pointed at him.
"What did I do?" Inuyasha said defensively.
"Why are you here? This isn't your territory." She inquired.
Technically, she was right. Before he joined the Wolves, he never paid that much attention to territory; but afterwards it became very important. The shop was on Demon land, but since he had been going to that shop since he was a pup, he wasn't about to have anyone change his habits. Besides he never saw anyone from the rival gang anywhere near the shop. And if he did it didn't matter because he would kick their ass anyway.
He just shrugged and said nonchalantly, "I like Keade's ice cream. Besides I doubt you'll tell anyone I was here."
She pushed her nose up and said in a stuck up manner, "Why?"
"I trust you." He said adding a charming smile. His answer must have surprised her because she looked at him like she didn't believe him.
"Why do you trust me? Remember me? The girl with the gun to your head?." she said.
"Because you don't seem like the type of person to squeal. And that gun thing?" he shrugged, "Just something you had to do."
Before their conversation could continue, his cell phone rang. *shit!* He wanted to talk some more and he didn't know how long Keade would take with the ice cream. He couldn't ignore it because Kagome was just staring at him waiting for him to answer it with a bemused smile on her lips.
Inuyasha put his hand on her knee and looked into her eyes, "Stay here. I'll be right back." He swore he could feel a shiver raise in her when he touched her. He sniffed her again to get a linger of her scent but there was something he didn't get when he first walked into the little shop. The scent of Naraku was on her, it was faint but still there. Inuyasha had to beat down his first instinct to growl. He would talk to her about it later. He really didn't like the idea of Kagome being with an ass like Naraku.
He got up from his spot and went outside, he could still see her thru the window. Keade had returned with his carton and her ice cream cone. He pulled out his cell, which was still ringing. As he answered it, he saw that Keade and Kagome were talking. His hearing was not so good that he could hear thru glass. He turned his back on the scene when he realized Miroku was on the other end.
Even though Inuyasha had to talk to Miroku he didn't want to waste any time he had with Kagome, he felt like everything counted with her.
"What Miroku?" Inuyasha growled.
"What's your problem? I was just calling about tonight's meeting." His friend said defensively.
Inuyasha realized he maybe sounding angry with his friend but he didn't care, "It's nothing but I need you to do something for me. If Kikyo calls you tell her I'm meeting with Kouga about something like business."
Miroku was puzzled but agreed, "Fine but why?"
Inuyasha turned back to looking at Kagome she wasn't talking to Keade anymore but she was now twirling around in the spinning counter seats. She stopped though when she saw him looking at her antics. She just smiled looking embarrassed and turned to face the counter table.
Inuyasha just smiled and answered Miroku, "I'm with Kagome right now. And I just see this as a way to get my plan underway." Miroku was the only one who knew about the plan and even though he didn't think it would work, he saw it as a waste to try and talk any sense into Inuyasha.
"ooOO I get it. Yea fine I'll tell her. Are you sure she won't call Kouga or anything?"
Inuyasha shook his head even though Miroku couldn't see him, "No Kouga doesn't like her and wouldn't answer if she called anyway."
Kouga had never like Kikyo. Inuyasha didn't know why but he didn't really care; Kikyo was his girlfriend not Kouga's. Kouga did everything he could to talk Inuyasha out of allowing Kikyo to be a Wolf, but Inuyasha refused to listen. Kouga may have been the leader but Inuyasha still had almost as much power as the wolf.
"If you say so." Miroku sounded doubtful but Inuyasha knew how everyone worked.
"Don't tell Sango either. What was your question about tonight?" Inuyasha didn't really want to talk about anything until tonight but if there was a potential problem he had to deal with it before it became a problem.
"I wanted to know if you wanted me to bring the sewer plans or not and what about the cameras?"
Inuyasha hesitated, "Bring the cameras we need to know how everything works but leave the sewer plans I don't think we need to worry about it."
"Ok Tonight then. Bye." Miroku said and promptly hung up.
Inuyasha hung up and turned his phone off, he turned back to look at Kagome thru the window she was talking to Keade and Kagome was glancing towards his direction. She quickly looked away when she realized he was turned around. Her talk with Keade ended when he opened the shop door. Inuyasha pulled out his wallet and pulled out enough money for his ice cream and Kagome's and left it by the cash register. Instead of sitting at the counter he went by and grabbed his ice cream and her arm. He had made a decision she would eat the rest of her ice cream with him.
"What are you doing?" she asked. She didn't sound pissed off just surprised. Inuyasha turned to face her, he could see Keade behind the counter watching their interaction.
He looked past Kagome and said to the old lady, "I already paid for both of us."
He then said to Kagome, "We are eating together." He pulled her out the store. She stopped him though when she pulled herself from his grasp.
"Who said I was going to eat with you?"
"I did. Come on." He said while getting her arm again and pulling her closer to his car.
"NO!" she yelled and wrenched her arm away, "What if someone sees?" she said as her eyes darted around the street. "You know how much trouble I would be in?"
Inuyasha shook his head, "Don't worry. Your pack isn't usually out by the shop this early. No one will see as long as we aren't standing out here long."
He unlocked her side door and she eyed him before walking up to the door. She was about to get in but said before she did, "If anyone sees I'll blame it all on you. And say you had a gun at me."
He just laughed at that and closed the door for her and ran to his side. As he closed his door and started the car he saw her, from the corner of his eye, staring at him.
"Why don't you finish your ice cream you don't want it to start melting do you?"
She looked at her cone and then back at him before she started to slowly lick still looking at him. Inuyasha tried not to watch her but it was really hard. He kept glancing over every once and a while seeing her pink tongue lick at the ice cream. He shook his head from the image in his head. He had a slight problem on his hands now. Where could they go? They couldn't stay in Demon territory; too many chances of someone seeing and telling on her. Inuyasha already knew how angry his brother would be if he found out someone from his gang was riding around with him.
Kagome voiced his problem, "Where are we going?" She was still enjoying her ice cream. *Ice cream. I could take her to my place. I need a spoon anyway* Inuyasha had already decided to eat some of the dessert even if he didn't enjoy it that much. Kagome would question why he bought ice cream he didn't like and he wasn't going to tell her about Kikyo.
"The park. I think that will be okay." She accepted his answer without a retort. The park was right across the street from his place so all he had to do was get her to go with him to his apartment.
They were silent for a while before Inuyasha decided to ask a question that had been nagging him.
"So you belong to Naraku?" he asked casually. He didn't know why it had been bothering him. *Why shouldn't I hate that scent. I hate Naraku. He is my enemy.*
******
*What the hell is he talking about?*
Kagome was already a bit wierded out about the current situation and today's antics. She did not want to talk about Naraku, especially with someone like Inuyasha.
She put a disgusted look on her face and said loudly, "NO! Don't ever mention that hentai! What made you ask that anyway?"
"I can smell him on you. Anyone would ask that if they could smell you. So then who do you belong to?" he asked.
"No one if you really want to know."
He seemed surprised by her answer, "Really? Then how did you get in?"
"Well that first night was enough to convince Sesshoumaru to let me in without the initiation process." She didn't want to say 'without fucking someone', Kagome didn't really cuss and when she did she felt weird like she wasn't saying it right or something.
She looked over to him and saw him smiling, "What."
"You're a virgin aren't you?" he said like it was an accusation.
Kagome's mouth dropped open. *How dare he say that?!?! Is everyone a pervert?* Even though the hanyou was right she didn't like him just saying it like that.
He laughed, "You are. That's fine. Just don't think that Sesshoumaru will let you stay like that for long. Yea he said you're in but you won't be accepted until you sleep with someone."
She had never thought about it like that. She had just accepted what Sesshoumaru had said with gratefulness and surprise. She didn't want to sleep with anyone but if she had to...no no no Kagome refused to think that she would have to sleep with anyone. She preferred not to contemplate touching anyone like that and anyone that close to her. She didn't want to look like she believed what Inuyasha was saying so she put up an arrogant front.
"Yea OK Inuyasha. Why should I believe you?"
"Because I paid for your ice cream. Oh yea. And I saved your ass." He said a bit harshly.
She hadn't forgotten. In fact she thought about it a lot. She still didn't understand why he did. She turned toward her window as she muttered, "It doesn't mean you get to run my life."
She stared out the window and ate her ice cream. They were in the northern part of Tokyo. She never really got that much of a chance to go to that area; it was where all the nice houses were. They gave the idea of the ideal life each person should live. That every family behind then doors were happy and perfect. Kagome suddenly had a question about Inuyasha's family. It must not have been that great if he was against his brother.
*I wonder what happened between them.*
She was taken from her thoughts though when she felt the car stop and go silent. They were in front of an apartment complex. The apartments were beautiful and looked very spacious. But really caught her attention was the park that sat on her right across the street. It was very picturesque. Children were playing on the ultra green grass and the sakura trees were swaying the breeze. They had yet to bloom but it would be soon. Kagome could already imagine the beauty of the park after blooming. She already decided that she would be back to witness the beauty.
"We're going there right?" she said with a gasp.
She heard the car door slam shut. She had been so busy looking at the car she didn't notice Inuyasha getting out. She was about to open the door when he did it for her. She was surprised at his politeness. He really didn't seem like the type of guy to be that way. This whole behavior that he was presenting to her was making her paranoid.
She followed him upstairs even though the park was still calling to her. When he opened the door his place she almost gasped again but somehow she contained it. Kagome had never been to an apartment so big. It had everything in it that screamed bachelor. She followed Inuyasha thru the living room, which didn't have that much furniture but still enough to seat people. She was really paying big detail until she passed a bookshelf that had pictures on it. The first thing that caught her attention was the picture of the little boy with the silver hair and big puppy golden eyes.
*He was so cute when he was little.*
Little Inuyasha was being held by an older woman with long black hair, she was pushing him in a swing. He looked so happy. The image contrasted sharply with the scolding guy she was with now. As she looked over the barrage of pictures she noticed that most were with the woman and young Inuyasha.
*I wonder why that it is?*
Then she noticed something else. A picture of the Inuyasha now kissing a girl with long black hair. Even though Kagome could only see the profile it was enough for her to know who it was. *Kikyo.*
"HEY KAGOME come here!" Inuyasha yelled.
Kagome turned towards his voice and followed it. Questions were now in her head.
*Is he with Kikyo?*
*Why would he want to be with a scary bitch like that?*
*Why the hell am I here?*
She didn't necessarily think they were on a date. She wasn't that stupid. She didn't think what they were doing was that big of a deal. But she did think he would have the decency to maybe mention a girlfriend, or not be so nice to her. Kagome doubted that Kikyo knew that her boyfriend was here now with a girl that she wanted to kill.
*I bet he's just using me to find out secrets.*
*I don't like being used.*
Kagome was pissed. This was not the time especially since the morning she had. She was still walking toward Inuyasha when she felt this sensation in her hands. It felt like tiny little pricks in her hands, topped off with a burning warmth. It was warming her hands and she felt it raising thru her arms. And then as quickly as it appeared it was gone.
*What the hell?*
She looked up to see Inuyasha's face looking questioningly at her.
"Something wrong?" he asked. No doubt he saw the peculiar look on her face.
She forgot about the sensation when she saw him. Instead of answering she gave her own answer; "Are you going out with Kikyo?" Kagome asked quietly.
Inuyasha hesitated, "Yes but I don't see why me and you can't be friends." He said while he walked over to her. He was about to touch her shoulder when Kagome quickly moved from his reach.
She shook her head, "I don't think my boss will like that very much you and me being friends." She said coldly. She wasn't about to put herself in any situation that would end up with her getting on Sesshoumaru bad side.
Kagome looked around as if it was the first time she could really see, "This is a mistake. I shouldn't be here." She started for the door. "I think I'll leave now."
He stopped her by grabbing her arm, "Kagome how are you going to get home?" he growled. Kagome could tell he was not pleased with her leaving but she didn't care. She had to go. She forced herself away from his grip.
"I'll take a cab or something." She said uncertainly. She had no idea if she had enough money to get home. She was almost to the door when he whirled her around sending her ice cream to the floor. He didn't seem to notice though as he stared into her eyes. She could almost loose herself in them. So easy to forget the world.
"Girl don't be stupid." He said sternly.
She shook her head and pushed herself away from him, "Just stay away from me Inuyasha."
