Belonging
Ch 10 - Our Night
*****
Kagome was zipping her boots up when her cell phone started to ring. Every member had one, Kagome's was blue and had `Demon' written on it. Yura had given it to her the day after she joined.
"Hello." Kagome said confidently. No one but Yura needed to know how she felt and even then Kagome was secretive a bit.
The clear voice of Hojo spoke to her over the phone, "Kagome, Sesshoumaru said it's time. You remember everything?" He had been against her going but had to yield to the power of Sesshoumaru. He was worried that she would hurt herself and he had gone over everything she was supposed to do repeatedly. He had told her that he would be there but that was all.
"Yes Yes Hojo." She said slightly annoyed. Even though it was nice to have a friendly voice in her ear, the voice belonged to Hojo and he wasn't helping her confidence. His over-protectiveness was wearing her thin.
"Be careful Kagome." He said sounding slightly sad and regretful. Kagome knew he felt partly responsible for her landing in her current situation and status within the gang. Hojo thought that if he had never allowed her to go she would not be in the danger she was now.
"I know Hojo I will. You be careful too." She said softly. She changed the tone in her voice to sound more forceful and optimistic, "Hojo nothing will happen. Now let me go." She never got a response she had already closed her phone.
Kagome looked at Yura and gave her a reassuring smile before stepping out the car. She only had 30 minutes. Yura was supposed to wait in the back and not go inside for any reason. If Kagome did not return within 30 minutes, then Yura would assume she was captured and leave.
Kagome had asked why it was only half an hour and Sesshoumaru had given the answer that 1. It should only take her a couple minutes and 2. He didn't want to start a full on war in such a public place. The police would come once someone phoned in that the Demons and Wolves were fighting.

"You're nervous aren't you?" asked Shippou's amused voice.
"What do you think?" Souta asked in a loud whisper, his eyes darting around paranoid. The two boys were now in front of the Tawasaki Shrine of lower Tokyo. It was past one, almost two, but Souta was far from tired. He was still on his caffeine high from all the double espressos he drank earlier that evening.
He hadn't known what they were up to until that very day after he had talked Kagome and his mother into letting him spend that night Shippou's. He knew they would be fine with it on the account he never went anywhere with friends. In actuality, Souta was perfectly fine with not having a lot of friends. He reasoned that in the end friends would leave so why bother gaining any.
The two boys were in front of the shrine across the street waiting for the guard change. The boys had been at the shrine all day studying the security and creating their very own schedule for Kouga and Inuyasha. The fact there was no moon only helped to shroud them in darkness and their stealth movement when the time came.
Souta had been wired all day when he learned of his assignment. He really didn't think that the Wolves would give him something so important when he had only been a part of them for a couple of weeks, but Shippou had said that they were the youngest and if caught would have a lighter punishment then anyone else. When Souta had heard that reasoning his thoughts changed to paranoia of being caught and explaining to his mother.
His sister was another story though. Inuyasha had been up front telling him that his sister was a rival gang member and that he would be fighting against her………after Souta had decided to join. If he had known about his sister, he would have refused the offer and talked to Kagome but Souta knew that in the end it was too late for him to take anything back. Technically he wasn't a part of the Wolves, but then neither was Shippou on the account that they were too young. Inuyasha had said that they were scopers, checking on target locations and looking for new members.
Souta had no idea what he felt about his sister being in a gang. He cared for his sister deeply but knew squealing on her was essentially telling on himself, and Souta wasn't yet ready to deal with that. Besides Inuyasha had given him specific orders NOT to tell Kagome or even hint that he knew about her, and Souta felt the warning behind Inuyasha's words.
*Why am I here?* More then once Souta had questioned himself wondering to find an answer but always coming up short.
"Hey be ready." Shippou said breaking Souta from his thoughts. Souta nodded quickly and pulled out a code that Miroku had given him. Shippou got up and quickly went to a tree only to come back with a couple of leaves in his hand.
The awe that Souta felt about Shippou's youkai power had yet to ware off. He had never met a youkai in person and only knew of them through rumors. Shippou had just replied that he probably had met a youkai but just didn't know it.
"OK we move in 2 minutes. The guards switch in 3 and I distract them as we move. You go first and I'll follow. I want us to only take 15 minutes Souta so we have to be fast." Shippou whispered sternly. Even though the guy was smaller then him, Souta understood that he was more experienced and probably knew what he was doing.
He began to double-check the list in his head to make sure he knew what to do.

1:45 AM
The building loomed before her in darkness. The closest lights were those in the front that did nothing for the darkness in the back. Kagome didn't look back as she walked to the metal door; she knew Yura was watching her walk away. Kagome closed her eyes and said a silent prayer. In the silence, she heard the faint cries of people yelling.
*Have they already started?*
Kagome quickly opened the rusty door and walked quickly down the hallway. There were small lights lining the brick hall that only ran in one direction. It was quiet except for the soft thumping of the music and her heels clicking against the floor. Kagome finally came to a split in her route, two doors; one door on each side of her.
*Which one?*
No one had said anything about choosing doors. Kagome shrugged and picked the one on the right of her. She opened it a crack and peeked inside. She gasped at the sight of all the scantily clad girls and quickly shut the door.
*Wrong door.*
Kagome turned around to face the other door and shook the nudity from her mind. She still didn't understand how anyone could just STRIP everything off and not care. Kagome was about to open the door she now faced, when it swung open by itself reveling two thong-suited girls.
1:47 AM
They were both tall and possessed beautiful bodies. One had long hair so black that when the overhead lights hit her hair, a blue tint could be seen. While the other had dark brown hair with auburn streaks cut in long layers.
The girls were talking to one another and didn't notice Kagome, who was trying to disappear, until they literally bumped into her. They stared at her until the brown haired one smiled and bowed before Kagome.
A voice that tinkled like little bells spoke to Kagome, "Hi. My name is Lilo." She motioned her head towards her friend, "This is Mika. Are you new?"
Kagome, a bit shocked by their friendliness and lack of clothing, bowed also and stuttered out a greeting; "H-Hello. I'm Kagome. Uh - Yea I am new." She saw the amusement in their eyes but she reasoned that the amusement was from her nervousness.
Mika cocked her head to the side and said in a superior voice with a smile, "Really? No one told me we were getting fresh meat."
Kagome did not appreciate that comment, but before she could speak Lilo spoke in her defense, "Stop Mika. She's new not your personal toy." Lilo turned her attention to Kagome, "Why don't you come in back and meet all the girls?" They began walking to the room that Kagome had already peeked into.
"Actually, I'm not a dancer. I'm a waitress. I- I just got lost." Kagome said trying to sound perfectly calm. She wasn't afraid of strippers she was just not very used to seeing so much skin everywhere.
Both girls turned to look at her not believing her and Lilo spoke for both of them, "Really?" she looked Kagome up and down and then continued, "Hmmm………well if you DID want to be a dancer you would make a lot of money."
*Was that a compliment?* "Thanks?" Kagome said puzzled. *Do I look like a slut or something?* both girls laughed at Kagome's face and Mika said, "Don't worry it's a compliment."
"Since you ARE a waitress then you should know that some guys think the waitresses are a free feel. If anyone touches you just yell and usually that's enough to get the bouncer or some other gallant guy to help you." Mika said. Even though she was trying to be helpful, Kagome still didn't like her.
*Wait. Are there any gallant guys that go to strip clubs?*
Lilo brought her attention back to the subject, "The guys that try are usually drunk, and so they have no idea how bad they are being."
Kagome suddenly felt hands pushing her towards the door she was trying to originally get to before the girls stopped her, Lilo cracked open the door and peered out with Kagome, she pointed to a table with a lone guy sitting at it. "That table over there, watch out for it. That guy sitting there has a weakness for girls in tight clothes. Usually there are more guys there." She closed the door and looked at Kagome, "But there is a fight going on right now, so all his friends are gone."
"You've heard of the Wolves before right?" Mika formed a smile on her lips, "The guy right there is their leader."
*At least I don't have to go searching for their table now.* No one had told her where they would be sitting just what Kouga looked like. She really didn't want to waste time walking around the place with men grabbing at her, so now she could save time and her body from being groped by perfect strangers.
Kagome interrupted the girl's barrage of information, "How do I get to the floor?" There was only one door that led to the main room and it lead to the stage.
"Well usually the waitresses come from the front but since you're already back here you'll have to go up on stage." Lilo replied.
"NANI?" Kagome asked in disbelief. She didn't want to go up on stage that would everyone would be looking at her.
Mika shook her head, "Oh no. It's okay. Just when you go on stage just run down the little steps on the right. It'll be okay just hurry you don't want guys all hooting at you to take it off."
Both girls were already pushing her through the door and into the light. The door swiftly closed behind her and she was left alone on a stage in front of many many men.
The scene that greeted her was something from a smoky porn B-movie. The place was spacious and even though it looked like two-story from the outside the building was actually just one huge room. There were men everywhere and barely dressed girls waiting on them and talking to them. There was a bar at the back; opposite of the stage Kagome was now standing on. The walls were painted some unnamable purple shade and were lighted up by cheap wall lamps. Most of the lighting was focused on the ugly purple platform that Kagome now stood upon.
Kagome looked around. *Could there BE anymore poles?*
**
Souta heard a little beep that signified to him the two minutes were up and that the work began. Both ducked down as they moved across the street to the bushes facing the side of the building. The guards were big, tall men talking, unawares to the extra people on site, as they walked to the front. Souta looked at his watch as it counted down the last minute.
They had realized over the course of the day that there was a minute lapse in surveillance, which was more than enough to get inside the building. They had raced from the bushes to the door over and over again that day timing themselves but only looking like two boys having fun.
Souta saw Shippou pull out little strips of paper that were seals out of his pocket. Shippou motioned for him to move as he moved closer to the side the guards were now on. He had no idea what Shippou was going to do to distract the guards but didn't question him as he sprinted for the door.
He already knew the code that was needed to get inside by heart. The building stood silently before him in darkness. Souta still didn't know what they were actually looking for but then he also questioned what type of shrine had security.
He punched in the code quickly and opened the wooden door; he held it open and waited for Shippou to come. His friend ran in quickly and Souta shut the door. The hallway was silent and dark as they quietly walked to the office. The room they were entering was not the office but more of a waiting room that was connected to the office.
"So what did you do with those security guys?" Souta asked as they looked around the little waiting room.
Shippou shrugged, "Nothing really. I made myself into a burglar and they followed it around to the opposite side of the building."
"Then how did you get back to this side so quick?"
Shippou looked at him like he was stupid, "I'm a demon. I'm fast."
*Oh yea.*
They were both alert as they knew that there was security also inside the place. Souta kneeled by the locked office door and pulled out a slip of paper with the numerical code. He hadn't had time to memorize this one for the fact that it was 9 numbers. There backs were turned to the opened door of the waiting room; this mistake caused the boys to be surprised by the guard that found them.
"HEY!! What are -" yelled the man before Shippou turned and jumped on the man hitting him in the head with a seal paper that exploded into a big stone. The man's head slammed into the ground with the big boulder rolling away. The stone did its job of rendering the man unconscious but footsteps could be heard coming down the hallway towards them.
Shippou turned and made the gesture to Souta to remain quiet. He turned and started digging in his pocket only to come out with a leaf that he placed on his head. He studied the man's face for a second before a puff of smoke surrounded him and Souta was looking at the backside of the man that now lay quietly on the floor.

1:55 AM
She never thought the lights would be so bright. Before any noise could be created she quickly ran to the little steps located at the side and got off stage. She looked at her destination, located at the far end of the club. No one was there though.
*Great. Now I have to look for him.*
Kagome's attention was caught on trying to find the brown-haired boy when she felt a pair of hands on her ass.
"AAHH!!" She screamed as she turned to find a chubby dark-haired balding man leering at her. She was about to slap him when he wrapped his arms around her body and pinning her arms to her side.
His slurred words were barely discernable, "Come on now. You look like you wanna have some fun." He was coming in close and the scent of alcohol and bad cologne invaded Kagome's nose. He looked bent on giving her a kiss; Kagome looked around frantically for help but no one was around.
*What happened to all those gallant men? Do I not look like a damsel in distress?*
1:58 AM
A male voice broke thru Kagome's thoughts. "You should really learn to listen to women maybe then you'll find one who likes your stank breath." Both the balding drunk and the girl looked to the guy standing to the side of them. He was cute with clear blue eyes and dark brown hair.
*KOUGA!*
A smile spread across Kagome's lips. The drunk let her go and turned to face Kouga. He took a swing at Kouga only to hit air and swing himself around and stumble into the stage. Kouga rushed to the side of Kagome putting himself between her and the drunkard.
"Are you O.K?" There was a look of concern on his face. Kagome was about to answer when she saw the belligerent man stand up again swaying slightly on the way. The man was walking towards them with his hands up Kagome yelled quickly, "Behind YOU!"
Kouga swiftly turned and punched the man ion the face sending him down to the ground in a pile. He turned back around and smiled as if he hadn't just made a guy unconscious.
*At least I know he's nice.*
Kagome's eyes briefly swirled around the club to be sure Inuyasha was still preoccupied. She turned her attention back to Kouga and smiled very brightly.
"Hi. UH……….Thanx for ya know." Kagome said slowly and gestured toward the drunk's body.
"No problem." He looked her up and down and a smile spread across his face. "What's your name?"
"Kagome." *Maybe I shouldn't have told him my name.*
"Kagome………You work here right?" He said stepping closer to her.
"Yea I do. I just started." She looked over to the table where he was sitting before. "I'm off. You want to have a drink?" She asked bravely. Normally, Kagome wasn't the type of girl to go and be so bold but she realized that she had a deadline and she didn't know how much time she had.
Kouga looked at her in surprise. "Sure let's go sit."
**
Shippou turned back to face Souta and smiled before walking to the door and confronting the other guard that had just been about to walk into the room.
*WOW he looks just like that guy. ……… Well except for the tail.*
The only really big difference between the man on the floor and imposter Shippou was the little fury tail that was attached to the man's backside. Souta nearly had to stop a laugh at the sight of the tail wagging and the sound of Shippou trying to sound like an adult.
"No it was just a reflection from this damn statue in the corner." Shippou said in a deep voice.
As the footsteps receded into silence, Shippou took off the invisible leaf and let it fall to the floor as another puff of smoke surrounded him and cleared to reveal the normal looking boy. He opened his pack and started shifting through it as if nothing happened while Souta stood there in amazement while questions raced through his mind.
But there was one question that he had to get out of the way first, "What's with the tail?" he asked astonishment dripping from his voice.
Shippou didn't even look up when he answered to absorbed in looking for something, "That's my youkai form. All demons have a human form and a youkai form."
"So then what does your youkai form look like?" Souta asked very interested.
Shippou just shook his head and said sounding rather disgusted, "Sango said `I'm too cute for words.'"
Souta had to contain his laughter when Shippou looked up at him like he was going to kill him if he laughed. "Will you just watch him while I snap the files?" He was still looking thru his backpack.
He nodded and turned back to the unconscious guard leaning against the wall. He pulled out his gun. After all the practice he had with the weapon it felt like second nature to hold it. At Inuyasha's insistence he had target practice over and over everyday to better his skill.
"SHIT!" Shippou said in a loud whisper. Souta looked back at him, "Problem?"
He looked up at him looking very disgruntled, "I forgot my camera."
Shippou was supposed to take pictures of these files about the shipment and other valuable things that might be interesting.
He got up and shrugged his shoulders, "I'll just take the files. It'll be too late when they realize they are gone." He walked over to the little office to the side of the room and started rifling through the large metal cabinet looking at files.
Souta turned back to the man thinking of the events in his life that had lead to this moment. All his life he had felt like a victim, the pitiful glances speared his way when people learned of his father's death. The life he led, the life his mother and sister had to live, the one he had no control over or could help with. The shit-hole they lived in thanks to that worthless sonofabitch step father.
The guard lay before him still unconscious. Souta stood in front of the man while Shippou went rummaging around the office for some file. Shippou was talking nonchalantly like they weren't committing a crime of any sort. Souta could only hear a few words at a time, too busy getting angry thinking of his life.
The gun he was holding in his hand was still pointed at the guard's crumpled form. Souta's thoughts kept turning to his stepfather and the similarity he held towards the guard. They were both slightly overweight, with a receding hair line of black hair. Wide noses were prominent on both men and while the man before had wide eyes, his step-father had beady ones but Souta knew he could forget that difference.
It wasn't like looking at a twin but it was enough to have Souta imagine what it would be like to shoot his stepfather.
Souta was brought out of his trance by a hand pushing the gun down to face the floor. He looked over at Shippou who shook his head, "Remember? Kouga said no bodies."
Souta silently nodded and turned his back on the man.
"Here." Shippou said as he handed Souta a tiny metal box. "These are some cameras Miroku wants us to use. Just set them around the place."
**
*What time is it?*
She glanced around the room and found one mounted on the wall. It read 2:10. Kagome had to stifle the gasp in her throat at reading the time.
*I have to go.*
Her conversation with Kouga had been quite interesting. He was very nice and funny, he was just very aggressive in what he wanted. Kagome was now practically sitting in his lap, as he tried impressing her with his status in the Wolves. He was nicer then Kagome had thought a person the leader of a gang would be.
*He's definitely nicer then Inuyasha.*
2:09AM
Kouga hadn't even noticed when Kagome had put the small listening device on his shoulder. Before she had even left for the club, Sesshoumaru had shown her how to use it and warned her not to break it. It was a small circular disk that really looked more like a sticker.
*I need a watch.*
She didn't think that the time on the clock was correct but she didn't want to take a chance. She turned her attention to Kouga and said sweetly, "I will be right back. Now you stay there and I will go to the restroom. OK?"
Kouga nodded and let her slip from his lap. Kagome glanced at the front door again relieved that she didn't see Inuyasha. She had no idea where the restrooms were located and didn't care as she walked fast through the club, weaving through tables and chairs. Fortunately no one grabbed her as she hopped up on stage and darted through the back door. She had no idea if Kouga saw her and she didn't care.
*Please Yura don't leave yet.*
2:12 AM
Kagome was almost to the end of the hallway that would lead her to the back door and Yura's car. A flood of relief ran thru her as the back door got closer and a smile appeared on Kagome's lips. *I can't believe I did actually went thru with it.* She didn't feel the person behind her; at least not until she was thrown into the wall. Kagome felt a strong pair of hands holding her up against the wall; pinning her arms to the scratchy brick surface. She looked up into the violet eyes of her attacker, a snarl spread across his lips. She had no idea whom this person was; she didn't know if he was a Wolf or some pervert. She had no gun and no one to help her. A fleeting thought of Inuyasha tripped thru her mind before the severity of the situation caught up with her.
*Someone help me.*
