Belonging

Ch 11 - Divided

The night seemed so much darker with no moon. The stars hoarded the light all to themselves; living the rest of the world in darkness. The all encompassing darkness; it had the ability to hide secrets and create mystery. It's the mystery of the unknown that causes fear.

It's that fear that Sesshoumaru ate and swallowed like some fine French cuisine. He always moved at night but these nights caused him to feel even more powerful. The new moon; no moon, the night was a like blessing for him. It was night he could make certain that Inuyasha wouldn't be on his back; messing up his well laid plans.

His brother always made himself so inconvenient whenever something important happened. Always coming where he didn't belong and taking something; someone that Sesshoumaru himself held so special.

Rin Sesshoumaru growled softly to himself as he thought of his mate in the hands of his mutt brother. He had vowed if she came back with a scratch he would have personally gone after Kikyo. Regardless of her power, Sesshoumaru wasn't afraid. He refused to be afraid of any human; miko or not. Psycho bitch… it wasn't a surprise; the trail of bodies and blood Kikyo more than once had left behind. More then once she had become to drunk on her own power and killed for the joy. The joy of hearing their screams; the joy of feeling their life run through her fingers, it was an empowering feeling.

Sesshoumaru would have given her respect if she weren't connected to his dumb ass brother.

~~FLASH

The scent of pregnancy clung to the walls of every room; well every room but his. He wouldn't let his father's new wench into his quarters; she disgusted him. Thinking she could just move into his life and replace the spot for his own mother.

She was nice and gave him candy whenever he wanted but it did noting to erase the memory of his dead mother's face or her scent that still lingered on the blanket he still slept with. He remembered the maid that had tried to laundry the keepsake. She was gone the next day after a comment was made to his father. Her scent was still on the mansion walls but as the months passed and the new woman moved in, the scent became less and less apparent and was slowly replaced with his new "mother's" odor.

Now the wench was pregnant. It was a boy; even his young 6-year-old nose could sense that. He didn't want a brother; not by this woman. He wanted a brother to play with but a brother that was from his own mother.

Sesshoumaru threw the stuffed neko at his door. It squeaked on impact but Sesshoumaru's attention was taken away from the toy as the door opened reveling his father.

His father was an impressive, imposing man. Whom could easily strike fear in anyone. Humans could barely stand to be around him, which was why Sesshoumaru wondered how the wench came to be married to his father. She was after all human.

"Sessho. We have to talk." His father's words rumbled and Sesshoumaru knew this wouldn't be a talk he would enjoy. His father sat beside him on the floor, while he absently played with another toy.

"You know you're going to be a brother son. Do you understand what that means?"

Sesshoumaru looked up at his father curiously, he didn't understand why he would need to do anything for someone how had Inuiko as a father. He shook his head at his father's question.

"There's a new person for you to help in life. You'll be an older brother, you'll be his guide when he is in trouble and I am gone. Another person like you running around."

Sesshoumaru scrunched his nose at that comment. He's nothing like me. He's half human, he as a mother.

"It's your job Sessho to care for your little brother."

**

Sesshoumaru looked down at his little infant brother, Inuyasha. He had been born the day before and his father couldn't be happier. As Sesshoumaru looked at the little form, he really couldn't figure out the big deal. He was loud and smelly. BLEECH!

Disgusting.

~~

Sesshoumaru pulled his attention back to the scenery in front of him. The neon signs and streetlights of the Pussycat Club parking lot gave more then enough light for Sesshoumaru to see the action taking place no more then a few hundred yards away. As of right now Miroku was getting a good right hook from his man, Hisaki.

He didn't bring many of his men; there was no point Kagome would be out soon.

It didn't matter now if Inuyasha had a miko. Kagome was more than a good enough substitute. He could smell it on her the moment she came into the picture. The miko power was rolling off of her in waves, in fact Sesshoumaru was surprised nothing had happened yet to her. His brother and Kouga probably didn't even know and Kikyo would be too blind by her own arrogance to even question if another miko was available. Or even if a miko who had the ability to be the same level as herself even existed. He had been harping on Ayame for no apparent reason; the girl had power but it paled in comparison to Kagome's. It was the only reason he had let Kagome bypass the initiation.

He was parked watching the fight that was taking place. He wasn't fighting for a reason; it was the new moon and his brother was human. They never saw each other when he was in his weak state; there was no point they would argue then fight then his lowly brother would be killed by him. Sesshoumaru was fine with killing his brother; just not when he was human, it wasn't a fair fight.

He did bring Naraku though; it would provide enough pleasure to see his brother get the shit kicked out of him. It also would work to confuse the idiot. He had made it a point of having Naraku around wherever he was.

Inuyasha and Naraku were grappled in their own little battle.

He glanced at the clock radio. 5 more minutes, then it was time to go. His men knew what time to leave; there order was to leave when Naraku did. He looked at Naraku giving another hard kick into Inuyasha's stomach.

It's your job to care for your brother.

**

Inuyasha walked in the dim club holding his ribs. He hurt, it wasn't like he was half-demon sure he would be fine in the morning but until then it would be a bitch to even breathe. As soon as he and his men walked in they were bombarded with ice packs from the girls and coos of "Poor baby."

Inuyasha grudgingly admitted to himself that it would have been worse if Naraku hadn't suddenly yelled, "Let's go!" to his team. Naraku was so much stronger then him when he was in his human form.

He didn't get it Sesshoumaru was nowhere in sight and usually wherever Naraku was Sesshoumaru was. But then it was the new moon and it was an unspoken deal that they didn't fight on new moons. It was essentially cheating because Inuyasha was no different then some mortal and it was no challenge for his brother to kill a human.

His eyes searched the room for Kouga, he was sitting there looking very happy with a girl on his lap. Damn him. He looked so comfortable and not in pain. Why should I be surprised? It's nothing new. Always been like this.

He smirked and thought of all the trouble Kouga would be getting into once Ayame found out about the mystery girl. His friend always had a weakness for girls that he never could control even after he mated with Ayame.

Damn wolf can't keep his hands to himself.

Inuyasha never could understand Kouga's willingness to sleep with any girl as he pleased. The behavior was totally opposite of any inuyoukai, which mated for life and then on. Inuyasha himself had refused to take a mate and preferred to have Kikyo be his girlfriend. He understood the seriousness of a commitment and did not want to take a mate and have pups with the type of life he lead. Mates meant forever.

As he walked over to the table, he saw the dark-haired girl move away from Kouga. She was wearing a short skirt and small blue tank top; Inuyasha didn't get to see her face as she walked away from him and Kouga.

Hmm……….Blue underwear.

As Inuyasha sat down, he saw the wonder in his friend's eyes and questioned what just went on with the two. Kouga may be a cheater but he never let a conquest affect him on account of Ayame.

"You are gonna be in trouble with Ayame." Inuyasha said in a taunting voice and smirk. Kouga had no illusions of wither or not Ayame would find out, she always did; someone told her or she would find evidence on Kouga contained in lipstick stains or a different perfume. Inuyasha never understood what kept her by his side.

Kouga didn't even acknowledge the cuts and bruises on Inuyasha. He was well aware of the fact that he would be healed by morning. Kouga laughed, "I just couldn't help myself." A thoughtful expression graced his face and Inuyasha wondered what he was thinking. Kouga never let the girls affect him and for him to actually be thinking about one was a major feat.

"Who was she?" he asked, curious as to who this 'special' girl. She had to have something about her to get Kouga hooked. She obviously worked there according to her clothes. From the back though he couldn't discern whom the girl was, which was odd because she had raven hair and the only girl with hair that black was Mika and Kouga had already had her a long time ago.

Inuyasha thought it was Kouga's master plan to go thru every girl that worked at the club. And he was succeeding. Inuyasha had extensive memory about every girl due to lots of character studying and conversations with the girls. He, himself, had never sampled the girls; preferring Kikyo NOT to kill anyone. But it didn't mean he couldn't look. For instance he knew that the mystery girl couldn't be Mika for the fact that she was shorter and Mika's derriere was bigger.

Inuyasha was snapped from his curious thoughts when Kouga answered him, "Kagome." He sounded a bit wistful in saying it. He started looking around eyeing the crowd, "She should be back by now………" he mumbled to himself.

Inuyasha's eyes bulged and he nearly fell out his chair. NANI!! He sputtered out his question to Kouga, "What name did you say?" He wanted to be sure before he started running in her direction and yelling at some stranger he thought was Kagome but not really.

Kouga looked at him as if he was stupid, "Did you not hear me human boy? KAGOME." He shook his head in amusement, "You must be deafer then I thought as a human."

Inuyasha ignored the remark and instead got up to go in the direction of the girl. He wasn't all that sure and he thought maybe some other girl just joined whose name just happened to be Kagome but it was better if he made sure. He didn't want to ask Kouga to help locate her since he seemed so infatuated with the girl.

She was sitting in his lap?

That thought did nothing but push his anger and confusion.

Why do I care? She's not mine. But she has NO reason to be here.

Did the stupid girl not know what was going on? Then another thought hit Inuyasha maybe she did know what was going on. Maybe his bastard brother had sent her to spy or something. Inuyasha could never see a girl like Kagome in a place like the Kittycat club.

His pain momentarily forgotten, he weaved through the tables and the people and bounded upstage past a dancer that was about to perform and thru the big metal back door that lead to the back hallway. He saw a figure almost at the end of the hallway and by the back door. He sprinted down the hall, thankful he was wearing tennis shoes so he could be quiet, and caught the girl by the arm. He spun her around and pushed her against the brick wall.

She was already struggling to get free so he pinned her against the wall with his own body and put his right hand over her mouth to quiet her shouting. Her eyes were open but there was no look of recognition in them. Inuyasha leaned close and said in a gruff voice, "Kagome It's me! Inuyasha. LOOK!" he commanded.

At first her eyes were blank but then she squinted them and a flicker of knowledge passed. Her struggling stopped and she clamed down. Inuyasha breathed a sigh of relief and uncovered her mouth. He pushed his body away from hers but still held onto her at her right wrist.

Kagome leaned against the wall and panted out, "Inuyasha?" her eyes were wide in wonderment focused on him as her left hand went up to his head and lightly skimmed over his head where his ears would be. "Your ears………" she mumbled distantly. Her fingers slid thru his pitch-black hair and she tugged on the strands.

"HEY don't!" Inuyasha shouted. He didn't like people playing with his hair. His shouting seemed to break her from her reverie.

"What happened?" she was still studying him like some lab experiment. He really didn't appreciate people staring at him like that. It made him feel self-conscious and different. Her fingers trailed down his face over his cuts.

"Nothing "happened". I just become human every new moon. It's not a big deal." He said defensively.

"No, I mean the cuts." She said quietly. To Inuyasha she almost looked guilty but he didn't understand why she would.

"I got into a fight…"

"Oh. I-I'm sorry." She said looking down between them.

He shook his head, "Why should you be sorry? This wasn't your fault." She nodded absently but still looked troubled. Her voice changed back to one of curiosity; "So you change once a month?" she asked changing the subject.

"Yes." He said it like she was slow.

She looked like she was thinking really hard before she scrunched up her nose and looked at him; "So…. It's like your time of the month?" she said as a small smile dawned her face.

Inuyasha rolled his eyes, "I'm not a girl Kagome." He shook his head to get back to the point; "What are you doing here?"

Her eyes darted around before she answered, "What do you think I'm doing here?" she asked sarcastically.

"I know every girl that works here and you don't work here."

She cocked her eyebrow and a curious tone entered her voice; "Really?"

Inuyasha's face faulted as he said in a flat voice, "Answer me."

"If you really want to know I'm meeting my friends; they work here." Kagome said evenly as she tried to walk away. She wasn't looking at him though her eyes were still darting around looking at his head and his nails and even mouth. She didn't even once look at his eyes.

Now I know she's lying. There's no way Kagome is friends with any of the girls that work here.

"No you're not. Now why are you here?" he said definitely. He slid his hands up to her shoulders and pushed her back up against the brick wall.

"Yes I am. Now let go!" she shouted. He could feel her hands pushing against his chest and she was struggling to be free. It kind of hurt but he refused to show her his pain and instead he just grit his teeth and smiled

"I may be human girl but I'm still stronger than you. Tell me and I'll let go." She was still thrashing though and not succeeding. She pushed harder against his chest and then he felt it. The slightly hotter sensation of her hands on him.

Inuyasha attributed the heat to the friction her hands must have been creating. He still would have thought that if she suddenly hadn't stopped when the sensation turned to burning. Her eyes were wide and staring at his chest as Inuyasha swiftly grabbed her hands pulled them from his body. Her hands were burning his but he had to hold on because he needed his answers.

"Tell me Kagome." He said thru clenched teeth bringing her attention back to his face. Her eyes were blank like she didn't understand what he was saying, but soon her brows knitted in concentration and her eyes clouded over.

Inuyasha never felt the impact of the pink light but he felt the searing heat eating his body. He felt his back hitting the brick wall with such force his vertebrate felt like it shattered. Before he blacked out he heard the running of Kagome's footsteps and the door slamming.

Just like Kikyo.

**

Pain.

Kagome's heart was racing and her head was pounding. But her hands held the most pain she had ever felt in her life. They felt like they had been cut upon and pulled apart tendon by tendon. Her fingers felt like they had been ripped off; she glanced down at them to make sure they were still intact. They were trembling like the rest of her body.

That light…

It had come from her hands. She didn't understand. She looked at her palms they were still there although a little more red then usual for her pale skin.

I knocked down Inuyasha.

She had left his body crumbled on the ground too freaked out to help. Now she felt bad.

I shouldn't have left. He hates me.
