Chapter 12 - Mikos
a/n: oh wow! I broke 100 reviews. Thanks people I really appreciate your comments. They help me write really. I haven't yet decided what to do about inuyasha's youkai. But anyway enjoy reading.
Wake up
No. The darkness is so much more peaceful.
There's work to do. Did you not FEEL what Kagome did to you?
……
Yea. You see how much power she has for someone untrained? She could have killed you. Imagine how deadly she could be focused. She could incinerate you just by snapping her fingers.
Kikyo -
She's not going to be happy but you better wake up and take care of-
><
The slight shaking of his body caused Inuyasha to finally become conscious. His eyes parted and all he could see was a very blurry figure standing over him. It took Inuyasha a while to remember he could smell the stranger. Another moment later Inuyasha remembered he was human at the time and probably couldn't smell any better then a human. Blinking his eyes a few times brought Miroku into focus albeit the bright pink spots that blocked some of his friend's face. Miroku was opening and closing his mouth like a fish. Is he speaking? Miroku then turned his head the side and opened and closed his mouth like a fish in a different direction to someone out of Inuyasha's line a of view. He would have moved his head but the slightest movement caused a streak of pain to go shooting down his battered back and spine.
At least I can feel something.
Even though it was pain it did convince him he wasn't crippled. Pain was the only thing he could feel at the movement, that and a feel of dread in the pit of his stomach.
She's a miko.
Inuyasha's mind was working a little slow but he realized that this was a moment to be thankful for his human blood. Her light would have killed his demon blood and in the process kill him altogether.
Thanks Mommy.
Miroku's voice finally started seeping into his mind and Inuyasha began to understand why he was moving his mouth like a fish.
"Inuyasha what happened?" he asked in a worried tone.
Inuyasha opened and closed his mouth a few times before answering, "Kessin' ducks."
Miroku cocked his eyebrow in perplexity while another face got into his line of vision.
Kouga's smile couldn't be bigger when he said; "You try to make a move on a dancer and she hit you?"
He may not have been able to think correctly but he automatically answered that question with one of his ready-made replies; "Go fuck yourself." He said trying to sound mean but only coming out as a tired sigh.
Kouga laughed; "He's alright. He'll live." Miroku decked kouga in the shoulder and moved to help Inuyasha up.
Inuyasha realized he was leaning against the wall slumped over. As Miroku grabbed his shoulder and his arm ready to pull him up, Inuyasha again felt the throbbing ache. He quickly breathed in a pained breath. It felt like someone had stabbed him in the back a dozen times down his spine. He ignored the pain as best as possible and leaned into Miroku as his right arm was placed around his friend's shoulder. He looked to his left side as he felt Kouga take his arm and put it around his shoulder.
"C'mon. We can leave through the back. There are too many people in the front." Kouga said. Miroku just nodded and started walking the short distance to the backdoor.
"Where is everyone?" Inuyasha whispered out. His mouth felt like cotton. And it was difficult for him to walk right at the moment. He was concentrating on his steps trying not to trip.
"When we found you knocked out I told them to get outside and see if anyone suspicious was around. They didn't find anything so Kouga told them to go home and we would meet tomorrow." Miroku answered. He kicked open the door and it wasn't until the cool night air touched him that Inuyasha realized how hot and stuffy the back hallway was.
"You'll be okay by tomorrow right?" Miroku asked in a worried tone. Inuyasha had never been hurt so much in one night and in human form.
Kouga answered before Inuyasha could; "The sun will be up in an hour or so. He'll be okay. This is nothing for a demon; full or not."
As they walked through the parking lot still full of cars. Inuyasha figured out why it was so cool, the droplets of rain glittered off car windshields and hoods. The words 'Pussycat' shimmered on the cars. It wasn't raining at all when I came in.
"How long was I out?" he asked. They had finally made it to his car. Normally he would never have anyone drive his BMW but he thought now was not the time to care as long as he got home. He let go Kouga and while Kouga moved to the driver side, Inuyasha agonizingly dug in his pocket for his car keys. He got them out and beeped the car to unlock.
"You were gone for like 30 minutes before we started looking around the place. But it took you an hour to wake up when we did find you." Miroku said as he helped Inuyasha into the car. "I'll follow behind you." He shut the door and walked to another car.
"So you know who did this?" Kouga asked as he took the car keys and started the car.
Inuyasha closed his eyes to try and ease the pain. "Who do you think? We have to change the plan for the shrine now. I'm guessing that's why Sesshoumaru did this."
"Doesn't make any since though; why he went through all this trouble." Kouga replied. The movement of the car was relaxing but Inuyasha knew he couldn't go to sleep yet; business had to be done.
"Who from Sesshoumaru's gang could do this?" he could hear the curiosity in Kouga's voice. "Was it Naraku?" he inquired.
Inuyasha would have agreed with that but stopped himself. If he thinks it was him Kouga will start asking questions. Both knew how careful club security was and if Naraku had snuck in then security would have been on him before he could even seat foot in the club itself. If Naraku had snuck into the club it would be on tape. SHIT! I have to get the security tape before anyone else looks at it.
Inuyasha didn't hesitate an answer; "It wasn't Naraku. It was some new guy that was the only way he could have gotten by the security cameras."
"I'll ask around and see if Sesshoumaru's gotten any new members. Do you remember what he looked like?"
Inuyasha didn't really feel like answering questions at the moment it would mean he would have to think and right now was not the time to think. He could still see the bright pink spots of her power in the darkness of his closed eyes.
That girl better be happy I'm doing this. Unfortunately, Inuyasha wasn't in the right of mind to actually question why he was doing this.
"He had dark hair that's all I remember. Now shut the fuck up I have a headache." Inuyasha growled quite menacingly even for a human form. He knew his description was vague; a lot of people had dark hair. But he reasoned he could think up a better look later after the spots and pain had disappeared.
*
She didn't leave.
Kagome couldn't express the happiness she felt when she spotted Yura's car in the exact same she had left it. With one more glance at the closed door behind her, she ran to the car door and jumped in.
"You didn't leave." Was the first thing that came out of her mouth. The relief was apparent; if she knew Yura better Kagome would have hugged her. She glanced at the radio clock it glowed 2:25 AM in the dark.
"I guessed that you would be late. Nothing planned ever goes right." Yura said knowingly as she started the car and pulled away.
Kagome breathed a sigh of relief as they left the parking lot. Glad to be fair away as possible from Kouga and the Wolves. But she looked back one more time before the club disappeared.
Inuyasha…I can't believe I did that to him. But then how could I know? I didn't- I never knew. She looked at her hands still slightly pink. The pain was slowly becoming a dull throb. At the moment that the light had come out, she hadn't understood. But now the knowledge was slowly sinking in out of nowhere, she was beginning to understand.
I'm a miko.
She wasn't fully aware of what that meant. She just knew that what she had was precious and powerful. Kikyo… Images of the girl tripped through Kagome's mind. She at least had a clearer understanding of why the girl was crazy. Too much stress…too much responsibility with these types of powers.
"What are you staring at?" Yura asked breaking Kagome's small epiphany. She realized she was still staring at her hands.
She quickly put her hands down; "Nothing…"
With a small smile Yura said; "Clean your hands when you get back. You don't know what substances, human or not, have been on things."
"Yea" Kagome rubbed her hands together feeling all of a sudden grimy. "That place was pretty dirty."
She laid her head against the cool window and thought of what had happened. She had felt threatened and then that feeling of her hands burning came followed by the light. If I had known that it would hurt that much I probably would have stayed calm. She made her hands into fists. I wonder if it hurt for Kikyo the first time.
"How did you like talking to Kouga?" Yura suddenly asked breaking the silence that Kagome desperately wanted.
"Oh. He was uh…friendly?" she asked in an almost questioning tone. She didn't want to talk about the strange boy. He was nice enough but his friendliness did border on smothering.
Yura gave a small snort and nodded; "Yea. He's like that with every girl that moves. I can't believe that Ayame actually stays with him."
Kagome nodded her head in agreement not really listening. All though there was no moon, there were enough lights on the street for Kagome to see the clouds that were swirling together threatening for a storm. Personally, Kagome didn't like thunder and lightening. It didn't scare her it just made her feel …unsafe; like she was about to get hit. And being in a car during a storm didn't help either; it just made her feel more vulnerable.
"You didn't see Inuyasha right?" Yura asked. That brought Kagome back from the scenery.
"NO. I didn't see him at all." Kagome shook her head quickly hoping she was convincing enough. She looked at their surroundings and realized they were no where near her house.
"I thought you were taking me home." Kagome said suddenly slightly afraid. She didn't altogether trust these people; after all they were gang members.
Yura shook her head. "Sesshoumaru wants to talk to you. So you go talk to him."
..
After washing her hands, Kagome wearily entered Sesshoumaru's plush office. It had walls the color of a forest and dark cherry wood furniture. He was sitting already at his desk which was the center of the elegant room. He motioned for her to sit and she followed his suggestion by sitting in the cushioned chair in front of his desk. She felt like she was about to be interrogated.
Why shouldn't he? I just finished a mission. I was literally in the lap of the enemy.
"What is it that you want?" she asked quietly first before he could ask. Kagome wasn't even sure if he was going to speak first. He was staring at her for a while before he spoke.
"How was your assignment?"
"I was late." She answered hesitantly. It was the only answer she had. She felt like she HAD to tell him what she had done wrong.
"Yura told me but that is quite alright." His voice was monotone so kagome couldn't tell if he was telling the truth or not.
"I-I did everything you wanted me to." She was biting her lip and she knew she probably looked as uncomfortable as she felt. It was disturbing having him stare through her like she was just a speck of dirt.
"Has anything odd happened to you as of late kagome?" he suddenly asked taking her by surprise. The change in subject somewhat worried her especially since he was right. I realized I was a miko?
Instead though she said, "No. But then I don't know what you're talking about." trying to sound truthful. She didn't want anyone to know right now. It was already bad enough that Inuyasha knew, she didn't know how long he would keep that to himself before telling everyone. Kikyo would no doubt be on my ass before I could blink.
Instead of speaking though, Sesshoumaru stood up from behind his desk and walked to a spot to the right of his desk on the wall behind the desk. He turned his back to her and placed his hand on a spot below a picture of a Chinese dragon. She didn't hear the words he mumbled but she didn't miss the new white door that suddenly appeared. I wonder how many of these concealing spells he uses around here.
As he opened the door, he simply motioned for Kagome to follow. Although something told her maybe not to come along, she couldn't stop the curiosity that was building inside of her. No wonder the cat died. He didn't listen to instinct.
The door lead to a grey room void of any object but a small vault mounted on the far wall. Sesshoumaru quickly spun in the code, "I could tell you Kagome what you are" his voice broke the consuming silence of the room but Kagome wasn't listening. Instead she was concentrating, she was feeling something. "And about your power but I think this would be far more convincing." He finished and opened the little vault.
Something was calling her. It was pulsing she felt it in the air, the moment the vault opened. The pulse was coming from it. She could sense it coming in waves in her direction. She quickly took another step forward to get a better look. Inside was a small velvet satchel. Before she could take it, Sesshoumaru grabbed the bag and dumped its content out into his hand.
"What is it?" she asked distantly. Her concentration was on the small jewel in his hand. It was sparkling white and not that big but something from it was calling her. She wanted to hold it but knew better then to try with Sesshoumaru right there. She took a glance up at him, he was staring at her again but this time she could tell her was looking at her and not through her.
It took everything kagome had not to let the ball's effect on her show. With blank eyes she turned to Sesshoumaru.
"It's called the Shikon no Tama. I believe Kagome that you are a miko. And a strong one at that. I know what Kikyo can do Kagome and I know that you can do so much more. As long as we start now and train you." His words were dripping together as Kagome's attention yet again became attuned to the jewel. Her hand was already up and reaching for it. With one more look to Sesshoumaru for permission, Kagome took the jewel.
When she clasped the jewel in her hands, her eyes fluttered and she took a deep breath as the energy rolled through her being like waves. Kagome had never felt like she belonged to anything and the monotony and sadness of her own life was suffocating, but holding the Shikon all of it, the problems the worries, were suddenly squelched beneath the glow and radiance of the acceptance and peace she finally felt.
She opened her eyes and looked at Sesshoumaru who was almost studying her by now. She knew that he knew what she was. It was too late to try and hide an effect like that. She focused once again and a thought hit her. She spoke it out loud but quietly almost murmuring it to herself; "This isn't yours."
Sesshoumaru heard her and replied; "What makes you think that?"
Kagome finally came out of her reverie and put her attention on Sesshoumaru, "It just isn't." she said confidently. She dropped the jewel back into his hand. There would be no use in trying to leave with it right now. Without holding it the light she felt quickly dimmed and in its place a memory.
They left the little room. Sesshoumaru was already talking about her schedule for training and what she would be doing. I do need to learn how to sue this. Every step she took only quieted the peace she felt but she ignored it. Plans had to be made. Kagome had already decided that the jewel didn't belong to Sesshoumaru, she didn't know who it did belong to but until then it was in her hands.
Suddenly, Kagome questioned whether she was on the right side, she questioned if there was really any side at all. Is this what I'm for? She couldn't ignore what she felt but it was disheartening, only feeling complete when some object was near.
I wonder if that's why Kikyo is so crazy. Maybe she hasn't felt the jewel.
But then Kagome questioned if something like the jewel would really help a person like Kikyo.
*
Darkness. It was surrounding him and her. It was so dark all she could see was the slight illumination of his sliver hair. There was no moon and the stars must have turned off their light for the night.
It was just them, well them and one extra person but she couldn't really make it out. It was like they were hiding or maybe she was just getting bad with her dreams.
She had dreams about Inuyasha a lot more then she cared to admit. In fact she had never spoken one word about them to him. He didn't need to know he would probably get a bigger head and try to get her to admit that she was crazy about him. He didn't know about her feelings and she kept it that way for a reason. Knowledge WAS power.
He wasn't facing her; he was facing mystery person. She couldn't even tell if it was a boy or a girl.
I need some light but I doubt there's a light switch somewhere around here.
She tried looking around but even as she moved her head it didn't seem like she was moving at all. Her eyes felt weird and she herself felt light. The dreams had never been like this. They had usually involved them doing something or going somewhere or doing each other. She never felt …weird within her own mind.
The darkness was soon cut short by the flare of light from Inuyasha. Better yet from the other person. In the flicker of blinding pink light she saw who the other was. She also saw the light hit Inuyasha before darkness settled in again.
I know that hurt. I remember how mad he got at me for hitting him with one of my shots before.
The short image was all kikyo needed.
*
Kikyo woke up with a gasp as her dream hit her. She was lying in her own bed at home. She stared at the cerulean colored ceiling.
Miko…
"That girl…" she whispered to herself. Flashes of the dark haired girl went through her mind. The girl at the club holding a gun to Ayame's head, the girl calling Kikyo a skank. Inuyasha SAVING the bitch. The last memory made Kikyo seethe with anger.
She turned in her bed to face the radio clock on the table by her bed. The letters were a stark red against the black background. She watched as the numbers clicked and slid to 3:15.
I wonder if he's home yet. Thank Kami for the binding spell.
If it weren't for the spell she wouldn't have even known he was hurt. The bad thing about the spell was the fact that it sometimes was late in delivering information. She didn't know when the incident had happened. But if he were hurt she would hear about it tomorrow. If he were dead, she would have had a totally different dream.
That girl needs to be dealt with.
Although she would talk to Inuyasha before putting a plan into action, a decision had already been made in Kikyo's mind. One strong miko was good; two strong mikos meant trouble.
a/n: eeek. I was supposed to write the flashback here but oops it didn't turn out that way so I'll do it later. If you have any questions they would probably be answered by that chapter (whenever it comes out). I updated pretty quick didn't i? I'm sorry if I disappointed anyone who thought it was Kouga who got Kagome, and those who bettedon it being Kouga (lady aa chan)
tinuviel: I know her power isn't usually supposed to hurt but iuno I was thinking 'something comes shooting from your hand wouldn't it hurt just a little?' it'll stop hurting soon enough anyway.
Angelofdiamonds I know evangelion is confusing but it took me watching the end movie twice once with no audio commentary and another time with it to get a really good understanding of it all. I think it's supposed to be confusing on purpose, the people on the audio commentary said it was the creator's way to say 'fuck you' to all the people who threatened him after the first evangelion movie. I'm still confused by the whole thing but every time I watch it I get a better understanding. Well as much as I can without actually getting into all the religious stuff that surrounds it. it doesn't matter I still love it.
Soranji-chan - I know about jinxx's story in fact I have it as a favorite story of mine. It's a good story. Eeek….i hope no one thinks I tried to steal becuz I swear I didn't. My story came from "property of." By Alice Hoffman. Well it was until it completely veered from the direction I had at first.
Remember to REVIEW people. They help my thinking. THANK YOU
