Chapter 13 - Talking to Demons

Kagome was going to see Inuyasha. In fact she was skipping school to see the hanyou.

Why am I doing this?

Because you really hurt him after he already got beat up by Sesshoumaru's gang. You're horrible.

It wasn't like it was on purpose.

Yea but you left him on purpose.

"Are you done yet?" Souta's voice broke through kagome's conversation with herself. She realized she was still seated on her bed, her left sock still not pulled up all the way. Souta was leaning against the door way already dressed for school and waiting for her.

"Yea. But …um I have to meet someone first so you can go ahead of me." This just blurted out of her mouth before she could really think up an excuse and sound convincing. Souta and Kagome may not have gone to the same school but their schools were basically across the street from each other. So they went together everyday.

Her brother just cocked his eyebrow in interest; "Really? Who?"

Kagome pulled up her sock and stood to look at herself in the full-length mirror. She smoothed out her short green skirt. I can't believe I have to go see him in my school uniform. But she had to leave the house in her uniform or her stepfather would say something to her and then something to her mother.

"Yura." She had said the name without thinking. Souta wasn't the biggest fan of Yura but then Kagome didn't really care. It wasn't like she really liked Yura herself but then who was her brother to tell her who not to be friends with?

She could already feel his disapproval before she looked over at his scowl. A very good impression of the hanyou she was about to see if she had to judge. Well she had to say someone. If it was Yura he was less likely to ask more questions. And he didn't; instead he turned and said over his shoulder as he walked away from her bedroom; "I hope you aren't late for school."

That doesn't really matter now. Kagome would have preferred to go after school but Sesshoumaru expected her to be at the hideout right after school to start training. She didn't know how she could be trained since her power only came when she felt threatened. Hojo would be picking her up at school and taking her straight there.

She took one last look at herself before picking up her pack and going out the door.

**

Kagome didn't have Inuyasha's number or his address, so she had to get there strictly by memory. And after making 3 transfers, getting on the wrong train, and getting lost in his neighborhood for an hour, kagome found the park. It was the only marker she had to be sure that the apartments across the street were Inuyasha's.

The cherry-blossom trees were finally in bloom. The park looked like it was surrounded in a haze of light pink. It almost looked like some place taken from someone's dream. There were children and people playing and looking happy in the beautiful park. Kagome would have loved to go to the park but she couldn't she had to go apologize to someone.

She looked at the apartment buildings; they were looming before her. All of a sudden Kagome didn't want to go see him. What if he is really mad at me? What am I supposed to do then? Kagome scanned the parking lot.

Hey he might not even be home. Then I wouldn't have anything to worry about. Except for all the schoolwork I missed today.

Kagome was a little bit too hopeful for something like that when she spotted his car. Her small hope died and she frowned. Why am I doing this? She would have turned and gone back home if she didn't think about how long it would be. She would have turned around and left but it would have been a waste of the day, a waste of all the trouble she went through. Her getting lost, all those stupid transfers, lying to her brother, missing school. Kagome suddenly stopped being worried. He better not be mad at me; I better not have gone through all this so he could yell at me.

She really had no idea what his apartment number was but she vaguely remembered going up a flight of stairs. She walked up the stairs by his car, or at least a car that looked like his car.

The first two doors she had tried gave no answer. Why would they? People are usually at work by now. There was one door left on the floor and all Kagome could do was hope that it was his. She had no idea how she would find him if the door weren't his. I can't go running around the whole complex asking people about a silver haired hanyou that changes every new moon. She knocked and the door was silent, Kagome gave a sigh of tiredness and turned to walk away. What now? Wait by his car? How do I even know it's his?

"Can I help you miss?" a smooth voice said behind her. Kagome quickly turned around and was faced with this tall guy with pitch-black hair, deep violet eyes and earrings. He was standing in the doorway of the apartment she had just knocked on. He was smiling at her, his smile was very charming and disarming and instantly put Kagome on alert.

She walked back to the door, "Uh. Yea. I was looking for this guy -"

"Me I hope." The strange boy interjected with. "I would count myself the luckiest male to know that I would have a beauty such as yourself looking for me." Kagome gasped as he grasped her hand, which pulled her closer to him. The close proximity of his body was not a comfortable feeling.

He looked in her eyes a smile still upon his lips as he asked in a very serious tone; "Would you do me the pleasure of baring my child? I -" the pervert had no chance to finish as Kagome gasped loudly yet again and did the automatic response of a good hard slap across the face before he could blink.

That LINE! She remembered it from weeks ago at the Akuma Club. She never got a good look at the dirty guy who had delivered it. Kagome cautiously backed away suddenly very afraid that she had found some dangerous sex fiend.

She was about to turn again and run away when she heard a promising growl erupt from the inside of the apartment; "MIROKU!"

Inuyasha!! Kagome quickly walked to the door and pushed aside the baby guy and barged into Inuyasha's apartment. She was automatically faced with Inuyasha's confused face staring up at her from the couch. Kagome saw that he looked the same from the first time she met him. His midnight hair had lightened to its blinding silver and his dog-ears were propped up on his head. She quickly walked over to him and saw that he was spread out on his couch on his back. He must be really hurt. He's not moving.

"What are you doing here?" he growled. Kagome grimaced at his voice and bit her lip.

"I uh-I came to see how you were?" she said nervously as she felt a body behind her and turned her head to see that it was the Miroku guy.

"Inuyasha I admit that you are very lucky to have schoolgirls coming to see how you are." Miroku said with a sly smile. The growl from Inuyasha just got louder and Kagome just blushed from the comment. She didn't really have an explanation as to why she was there unless it was the truth. So instead she just stood there with her back to the offender and her head down; she didn't want anyone seeing her blush.

"MIROKU! LEAVE!" Inuyasha yelled.

"But where am I supposed to-"

"Go get me ramen!" the last word ending in a menacing growl and scowl.

She could hear Miroku walking away with a snort and she swore she could hear a mumble about Kikyo and then the door slamming shut. She ignored the Kikyo; chalking it to a figment of her imagination.

Then there was silence. Or at least there would have been silence if not for the TV that was on.

"Sit." Was the first word that came out of his mouth. He wasn't growling; that had stopped when Miroku left. Kagome quickly looked up and noticed that she had two seats to choose from one kind of by his head the other by his feet at the end of the couch.

***

He was looking at her as she sat in the chair by his head. Needless to say her short green skirt gave him a show as she sat and crossed her legs. He could smell her fear; he could even see it. He couldn't believe that this girl was a miko. She was so different from Kikyo. Kikyo was never fearful and she knew how to use her powers. Kikyo was less innocent; less fragile.

Inuyasha tried to sit up but couldn't. His back still hurt from last night. Myouga, the doctor who handled all of the Wolves injuries, said he had bruised vertebrae and second degree burns on his chest and hands. The cuts and most of the bruises had already healed an hour after the sun rose but the rest wouldn't be healed until later that afternoon.

He didn't even know it was her until she had stepped into his apartment and his nose had caught a very familiar scent. He had yelled at Miroku because he had heard a loud slap outside his door and knew that meant that Miroku had offended some female.

"So why are you here?" he finally asked. She didn't look like she would by speaking anytime soon.

"I wanted to make sure you were okay. And tell you that I'm sorry. I-I didn't know…" her voice trembled as she spoke looking down again at her knees. Her hair a black curtain hiding her face.

He struggled to look up at her in surprise from his position; "You didn't know you were a miko?" Usually girls knew if they had that type of power. Kikyo had told him once that mikos got their power where they were young and after that they were trained.

She was still looking at her knees, he could hear the slight tremble still in her pitch. "No. I mean before my hands would just get hot but nothing ever happened." She paused and finally looked with a small smile, "Well until you."

A scowl appeared on Inuyasha's face at that comment. Kagome quickly lost her small smile and said just as fast, "Are you going to be okay?"

The hanyou nodded slowly still struggling to look up at her, he would have turned over unto his stomach but his front still hurt too much, "Yea just wait until later." He said trying to sound nonchalant. He didn't like her feeling bad for him.

"It didn't hurt that bad? Did it?" she said inching slightly closer a look of concern on her face.

"You tell me how it feels to be burnt to a crisp and then thrown against a brick wall." He replied dryly as he put his head down; it hurt too much to keep it up.

He heard the small scrape of the chair legs against the hardwood floor by his head until she finally came into his view without straining. She was peering at him; again biting her lip in nervousness. "Yea I see your point. I just wanted to say I was sor-"

"Aren't you supposed to be at school?" he said to stop her apology. He was getting tired of them; she looked so sad it was annoying him because he was starting to feel bad for her for feeling bad for him.

"Yea but I had no other time to come see you."

He wouldn't admit it but that statement made him feel better. She had to come see me. She skipped school for me. He didn't let a smile through though not wanting her to question him. "How'd you get here?

"The train and walking."

"You shouldn't do that anymore. You don't know what crazies are on it."

"It's morning it's okay. Besides I can always shoot them with my powers." She joked.

Inuyasha rolled his eyes at that and said warningly; "Yea and kill them. You don't know how strong you can be. I'm stronger then most humans in human form."

Kagome gasped loudly and a terrified look came upon her face as she said; "I didn't know I swear Inuyasha if I had known about any of these powers I wouldn't have -"

Will she stop apologizing? "Feh. No big deal. It's not like I'm dead. Just try to stay calm." Inuyasha hadn't had many people, that weren't being threatened, apologize to him in his life so the occurrence of this girl saying sorry so much in one sitting was amazing.

She just nodded her head in agreement. Then the silence came again, she started twiddling her thumbs before speaking up. "Well if you're gonna be okay then I'll guess I'll just go then."

She was about to stand when Inuyasha said; "Miroku will be back soon just wait and he can give you a ride."

Kagome stopped and looked at him slightly apprehensive; "Are you sure he won't mind?"

"Nah. He'll drive a pretty girl any…where." His sentence faltering with the admission that she was pretty. He hadn't meant to say that but it just slipped out. As he silently cursed his self he saw a small blush spread across the miko's face.

"Wh-what are you doing tommorow?" he said quickly to change the subject. He didn't really care since he could always find out from Souta. The little brat was good for more then just a new recruit, he could was very helpful in gaining any information needed about Kagome. And any information the boy couldn't get from talking to his sister could always be gotten from sneaking around her room.

"School and then I'm doing stuff…" she got real quiet with that answer and wouldn't look at him; her loafers becoming very interesting.

Demon stuff I bet. I know Fluffy couldn't wait to use his new toy. "Like…" he said with a smirk. He already knew the answer but he wanted to see if she would say anything.

"You know stuff for other people." Her emphasis on the word other confirmed his suspicion, but it wasn't enough for him. He would have pressed her more to get real information when his front door burst opened.

"HONEY I'm home!" shouted Miroku's cheery voice. Both people quickly looked up at the young man carrying the clear plastic bags full of ramen. Inuyasha turned slightly to see Kagome's expression. She looked almost confused. He guessed she would since not many people bought up to two or three bags of the stuff. It wasn't his fault; his market was selling it 10 packs for 119 yen.*

With a scowl on his face to hide his embarrassment, Inuyasha said gruffly to his friend; "Miroku take Kagome home."

Miroku smiled almost mischievously as Kagome stuttered; "I-I need to go to school." He could hear her nervousness. He turned to look at her and saw the trepidation on her face as she stared at Miroku.

He looked at the pervert and said threateningly; "Fine take her to school and Miroku you better not touch her. Or I tell sango." Even though Sango and Miroku were together nothing stopped his dumb ass friend from flirting and talking to other girls. Inuyasha knew Miroku cared deeply for sango, he had to the girl gave too many hits to the head for anyone else to stand.

The frown on his friend's perverted face was instant; "Fine. You spoil everything Inuyasha."

The ride to school from Inuyasha's was interesting to say the least. The Miroku boy was a big time chatterbox and even bigger flirter. Even though the ride to school was only 20 minutes Kagome had counted at least 4 occurrences of sexual innuendo from the overly friendly boy.

"Who's Sango?" she had suddenly asked. He was on the topic of how wonderful school uniforms are in high school when she had thought up a question to make him shut up about it.

"Sango's my girlfriend." He had said joyfully. "We've been going out for a while now." They were at a stoplight and Miroku looked over to her as he had said it. She was surprised to see the light in his eye when he spoke of her. It was surprising because Miroku didn't seem like the type of guy who would like a real relationship.

"So you two have been together for so long why did you ask me that …question and why are you so `friendly'? She asked hesitantly. She didn't really know if she wanted the answer.

He looked at the light change to green and started moving the car before answering; "I've always been like this. Old habits die hard ya know. Besides Sango loves me and I haven't changed from the person who she fell in love with. So why should I change what she loves?" he said thoughtfully.

Kagome knitted her brows thinking about what he said and slowly nodded her head; "I guess that does make sense."

"And I never actually follow through with any of my offers." He looked over at her and wiggled his eyebrows. "I love her too much."

Kagome smiled. I guess he isn't so bad.
