Chapter 4

Inuyasha and his friends were getting closer to Kouga with each passing moment.

'How stupid can he be?' thought Inuyasha, 'He knows I can smell him and my Kagome,"

"Inuyasha, where do you suppose Kouga took her?" asked Sango who looked into the air listening to the songs of a forest songbird.

"Well, I'm sure he didn't take her back to his den ... he's too stupid for that. He must have her in some sort of cave; I can feel her trembling body!"

"Maybe she's afraid?" Shippo speculated.

"Oh, he will regret it if he hurts her ... She's my best friend ... we can't lose her!" he said trying to keep his anxiety in check.

"It's okay Shippo, she's just fine ... If I know Kagome, she's really angry right now," added Miroku.

"Yeah ... you're right ... that temper is nothing to mess around with!" he joked trying to lighten the mood.

"We're getting close everyone," Inuyasha said in a low tone, "be on your guard!"

"Kouga's probably expecting us, so if I understand how he thinks ... he'll have a welcoming party waiting!" Inuyasha said as they moved carefully onward.

Inuyasha was right; Kouga knew he would come for Kagome, and was well prepared for his arrival. Kouga had gathered a few of his remaining comrades to assist him to challenge Inuyasha. However, Kouga had really underestimated Inuyasha, especially when fired by love and desire to save his wife. Kouga knew abducting Kagome was a calculated risk, but his overconfidence and stubborn disposition blinded his judgment. He had absolutely no idea how angry Inuyasha truly was, but Kouga would soon find out exactly what fierce hatred was all about.

Kagome paced back and forth; she was really frustrated as the confinement was getting to her and she missed Inuyasha so much. After dressing her wound; Kouga had bound her legs with a chain fastened to the wall of a small cave. Kouga sat looking at her for a time before climbing to his feet, and then went hunting for food. Kagome found herself alone with only the sound of tiny bats fluttering overhead for company.

After a short time Kouga's friends returned and Kagome found herself sharing her cave with them as they sat a few feet away watching her. She hated being placed in a position of vulnerability, and was powerless to do anything about it. If she had her bow, she'd string an arrow and show Kouga what it was like to feel pain. Kagome wanted him to hurt as much as she did at that moment. Kagome had defended Kouga many times, and now he did something like this to her. She didn't care anymore; Kagome just prayed Inuyasha would rip out his throat. Kagome was surprised at the depth of her rage, but after what she had been through she felt it more than justified. She was truly angry this time, and Kagome felt no remorse for what lay in store for Kouga.

Kagome was so wrapped in her thoughts she did not see Kikyo appear.

"Well, well, well ... if it isn't the little b***h!" Kikyo taunted.

Kagome turned her head and glowered at the unwelcome intruder. The two women stared at one another with eyes filled with pure hatred.

"What do you want, Kikyo ... haven't you caused enough problems?" Kagome shouted through clenched teeth.

"Oh not by a long shot!" snapped Kikyo.

Kikyo's hands made a swirling motion unfamiliar to Kagome. Instantly, a puff of smoke appeared; Kikyo then blew the smoke in Kagome's direction.

"What the hell are you doing you b***h?" Kagome demanded feeling extremely uneasy.

Kikyo just smiled as the smoke enveloped Kagome's body as she found herself lifted into the air. The chains fell from her legs after knocking out the guards.

"Where are you taking me ... I demand to know!" Kagome shouted feeling a cold fear stir within.

"Don't worry yourself about that, Inuyasha will never find you!" She laughed as a malevolent expression appeared on her face.

Suddenly, a whirlwind appeared, and in an instant they were gone.

"Inuyasha help me!" screamed Kagome. "She's taking me!" Kagome cried in desperation, and the intensity of her anguish and terror struck Inuyasha like a thunderbolt and he fell where he stood upon the ground.

"Inuyasha, are you okay?" asked Miroku who rushed to Inuyasha's side and extended his hand to help his friend to his feet.

"She's gone, Kikyo has taken her!" he cried as tears threatened to spill from his eyes.

"Do you know where?" Miroku asked as Inuyasha shook his head and dusted himself of
.

"No Miroku I'm afraid not, but I still can sense her last location ... let's get there now!" he said leading the way.

"Kiara, hurry!" shouted Sango and were off again, but there was a sense of urgency unlike before as they moved at a frightening pace.

Kouga returned from his hunting expedition to find his men unconscious and Kagome gone.
"Damn it... how could he get here so fast?" Kouga shouted stamping his spear into the hard earth.

"It was not him, Master Kouga ... it was Lady Kikyo!" one of his men answered as he climbed unsteadily to his feet.

"What! ... How could she? ... She said I could have her ... I know where she's taking her, and I'll get her back!" he vowed as he kicked the semi-unconscious men on the floor into action.

Meanwhile, Inuyasha and the others heard Kouga's protestations from their vantage point amongst the trees. Inuyasha wanted to rip Kouga to shreds, but decided against it for now. If Kouga knew where Kikyo took Kagome; he was going to follow first, and then kill him.

He raised a hand for silence and whispered to the others to move stealthily behind Kouga's comrades.
