Chapter 7

Inuyasha and the gang walked along the central concourse within Naraku's castle in search of Kagome while Kouga followed close by in the hope they'd lead him to Kagome.

'I'll stay behind them for now, and wait until the right moment ... then I'll take Kagome away!' he thought to himself, anticipating the moment.

"Inuyasha, I believe we're getting close. I sense a lot of power up ahead," Miroku said as his eyes took in their surroundings.

"Then let's hurry!" shouted Inuyasha who didn't want to waist anymore time than was absolutely necessary.

They sprang into action and searched every alcove and chamber for there missing colleague.

"This can't be; there's no way you could have possibly broken my spell!"
Kikyo cried.

"Now that's where you're wrong ... we're one in the same Kikyo; I can tap into your powers and make them mine also," Kagome told the shocked Kikyo.

"I don't believe that for a second, you've never known how to use anything other than your stupid bow!" Kikyo retorted.

Kagome looked at Kikyo with contempt.

"Its funny how love and anger can bring some things to light ... Oh, and if you haven't realized it by now, I am the one who has broken through the force field you set around the castle ... Inuyasha and the others should be here at any moment," she told Kikyo who had turned a deep shade of plum red she was beyond the limits of her anger.

'How dare she challenge my power, she's a weakling ... how dare she do this to me ... I'll fix her. She may have my powers, but she doesn't know how to use them all!' Kikyo thought to herself trying to think fast, and then smiled as she felt she had a clear advantage over her adversary; she was going to teach this woman a lesson in the use of magical powers she'd never forget. Unbeknownst to Kikyo; Kagome could hear all Kikyo's thoughts. Kagome was coming into her power much faster than she had anticipated.

"Why is this happening, Miyoga? ... I can hear her thoughts,"

"Your powers are advancing at a phenomenal rate ... perhaps they're trying to catch up since you've been without them for so long," he explained.

"If I can hear her thoughts, can she hear mine?" Kagome asked.

"I'm not sure, Kagome, she didn't anticipate you breaking free, nor did she hear you communicate our plan to Inuyasha. I think it’s safe to assume it’s because she's not entirely the same Kikyo that once lived and loved. Remember, she had been brought back by that evil witch, so she may not possess all Kikyo's abilities," Miyoga explained as Kagome's eyes doubled in size at the implications of these facts.

"Well, that's good to know ... it may help us get out of here," she responded and then felt Inuyasha's presence moving closer.

"I'm here, Inuyasha!" Kagome screamed catching Kikyo's attention as she turned towards Kagome as Inuyasha and the others moved towards her.

Inuyasha paused under the stone arch as his eyes fixed upon his beloved. He ran towards her and gathered her in a passionate embrace.

"Are you okay, Kagome?" he asked breathlessly.

"Oh yes my love, I'm fine ... I'm so glad you found me!" she said throwing her arms about his neck.

"There is no force in the universe that can keep us apart ... whenever you need me I'll be there before you know it," he said looking into her eyes with love.

They kissed as their friends clapped around the reunited couple.

"Oh how sweet ... sorry to interrupt this touching moment ... you may have destroyed my barrier, but you won't leave this castle alive!" She hissed as she glowered at them all menacingly.

"Haven't you noticed there's nothing you can do to stop us ... Kikyo, give it up!" shouted Sango.

"You're pathetic, there's nothing those two wouldn't do to find each other!" screamed Miroku.

"They love each other, why can't you just leave them alone?" Shippo added returning Kikyo's stare.

"Oh, please ... I'm tired of the lot of you! ... Inuyasha belongs with me, and only me ... It will be either in life or death, but he shall be mine ... Inuyasha and I will be the only ones leaving here today!" she said clenching her teeth.

"Kagome will come with me!" shouted Kouga as he walked casually into the chamber.

"Oh god ... I thought you were dead!" shouted Inuyasha.

"No Inuyasha, I can assure you I'm very much alive ... what are you disappointed? ... I was only stunned ... now move away from Kagome so I can take her out of here!" he demanded much to the consternation of Inuyasha and everyone else within the chamber including Kikyo.

"What's wrong with you two, can't you see we don't want you? ... I love Inuyasha and he loves me so get that through your thick skulls ... this will never change no matter how much you try to interfere ... We'll never give up on one another, and we will always fight to defend one another ... that's what true love is all about ... you can't make people love you against their will ... you're clueless about what love is ... love is given freely, and not taken by force, you idiots! ... Inuyasha and I chose one another a long time ago ... Just let us be ... go find peace and love elsewhere ... If you don't I guarantee you will die this day, I won't tolerate your obsessions any longer!" Kagome warned as she looked at Kikyo and Kouga who stood motionless while she poured her heart out.

Inuyasha looked at her and was in awe at how far she'd come over the years they'd spent together. She was a stronger woman now, and would always be his only true love and companion. He also knew he had to end this stand-off; if Kikyo and Kouga weren't prepared to accept Kagome's olive branch he would have to insure they'd not come between them ever again.

Kouga stood by Kikyo in a battle stance; He was prepared to help Kikyo kill Inuyasha and the others and spirit Kagome away.

"I've had it with all of you ... You shall experience the power of true evil and it will destroy you all!" she shouted as her eyes began to glow; they all looked at Kikyo wondering what she meant.
