Epilogue
Three years later....
Asakura sat on the small white bench. She giggled as she held the squirming three year old in her hands. "No, Namura. You have to sit still," she softy reprimanded.
The small child held out his hands. "Daddy!" he cried.
Asakura huffed and handed the child over to his father. "He wants you. He won't listen to me."
Tomo chuckled as he took the babe.
Namura was a beautiful baby boy. He had raven black hair and dark brown eyes. His chubby face spoke of a future of refined bones and handsomeness. He would become a heart breaker, wanted by every female he would meet. However, Tomo and Asakura had both found this strange, Namura had a spider birthmark in the middle of his back. Neither of his parents knew what this meant, though Tomo guessed it was due to his spider heritage. Asakura wasn't sure.
Today, they were in their finest. Asakura wore a midnight blue kimono that had black spiders printed on the left shoulder and the sleeves. Tomo wore pretty much the same thing, while Namura had a lighter colour blue on his outfit.
"Mommy!" the little boy began to cry, holding his arms out to his mother.
Asakura sighed as she took the child from his father. The moment she placed him in her lap, the boy began to cry out for his father again. "Would you make up your mind?!" she demanded.
Tomo laughed, "Why don't you stay with your mother for a little while, Namura? I have to go and help your Uncle Shippo."
The little body sniffed, but did as he was told as he watched his father leave. He looked up at his mother. "Daddy?"
"He's going to help Uncle Shippo. He'll be back. Don't worry," Asakura assured him.
"Lady Asakura?" came the voice of a child the woman knew too well.
She smiled as she saw the small hanyou approached. "Well, hello, young prince," she greeted the eldest boy of Lord Sesshomaru.
He looked at the child Asakura held as he sat next to her. "Is that Namura?" he asked.
She nodded. "Yes, he is. Isn't he handsome?"
"He's kinda fat," InuTaisho commented.
Asakura laughed, "It's because he's young. How's your mother and sister? Do they need help?"
He shook his head. "No. They got it. Neesan's a little worried about her makeup, though. She said it was going to go all over her face when she started crying."
Asakura shrugged. "She remembers my wedding day, then. Poor girl."
"Why do humans have to get married?" the little boy asked her as he gave Namura his hand to play with. He gave a grossed look when the baby stuck his hand in his mouth.
"For the same reasons demons have to mate, I suppose. It's our way of showing that we belong to one another. It's that final commitment," the Lady of the Mountain explained. "By the way, you look rather handsome today, InuTaisho."
He smiled. "One of my daddy's servants made it for me. I told him I wanted to look just like Daddy. You know, I'm gonna be just like him one day."
"Somehow, I do not doubt that," the woman replied.
The wedding procession began and everyone looked on. Namura watched as the people dressed in their finest began walking down the aisle. He shouted out when he saw his father, but got a reproachful look that caused him to become silent. He knew when his daddy gave him that look, it meant to be quiet.
Tomo walked with Shippo and stood at the alter with him. The spider demon smiled at the fox. "What's wrong?" he asked.
The kitsune shrugged. "We are already mated, yet, I'm nervous about this... Is it common for guys to be nervous at weddings?"
Tomo thought about it and then gave a non-challant lift of his shoulders. "I wouldn't know. I was alright at my own wedding. If anything, Asakura was more nervous then myself."
"Yeah, I was kinda shocked when she started crying," Shippo commented. "I hope Rin doesn't start doing that. I don't know what I will do if she does."
"Just laugh. I did," the spider suggested. "I don't believe such tears are saddness. I think there are two types of tears. Those they cry when they are sad, and another kind they cry when they are happy. Asakura cried when Namura was born as well."
"Women are strange..."
Tomo found he couldn't disagree. He looked up and smiled. Tapping his friend on the shoulder, he gestured to the aisle. Shippo looked down the aisle and nearly fainted.
Never before had she looked more beautiful. Her long, black hair hung over her shoulders and down her back. Small white flowers were carefully braided throughout her hair. Surprisingly, she didn't wear a kimono, as was typical in most weddings. Instead, she wore a western style dress. The dress was a V-neck and had long sleeves that were large and billowy, like a kimono's sleeves. The waist was small, clearly showing her figure. From the hips on down, the dress flared out and dragged on the floor.
She held a boutique that consisted of white and pink flowers in one hand. Her other hand was lovingly wrapped around her father's arm.
The great dog lord led the child down the aisle. His mind was in a whirl at what he was doing. Sure, she had already been mated, which, to a demon, meant eternity. But this... this was different. In a matter of moments, he would give her away. No longer would she be his ward. His little girl.
The memory of when they first met flashed through his mind. The dog demon stopped for a moment as he tried to quench this unknown emotion that had suddenly taken hold of him. She had been so small. So helpless. He still did not understand what had caused her to try to help him that day. Nor did he understand why he had saved her life.
"Have you someone to protect?" the words of his father burned into his mind.
Now it all made sense. Rin had been the turning point in Sesshomaru's life. She had given him purpose, reason. She had been the one who loved him when he did not believe such a thing existed. She had given him someone to protect. And thus, his power had grown.
The Lord of the Western Lands was not known for showing emotion, but in that moment, he held the most precious child in his life.
"Daddy?" he heard her small voice. How long had she called him that? He could still hear her call him by his name. "Lord Sesshomaru." And yet, she was calling him "Daddy."
He turned to her and looked down at her. Then, in a swift movement, he wrapped his arms around her and hugged her. "You will always be my little girl," he whispered in her ear.
Rin felt the tears burn her eyes. All her life she had dreamed of him calling her that. All her life she had wish for this moment. A hug from Lord Sesshomaru. A genuine "I love you" hug. "I love you, Daddy," she whispered back.
She did not expect him to answer her back, and he didn't. He gently broke the hug and looked at her. They shared a soft smile and continued down the aisle. He growled at the kitsune. "You had better care for her. Know that if she ever comes to harm, you will have to deal with me," he promised.
Shippo gave a nervous shudder as he agreed to the taiyoukai's terms. "I promise I will never hurt her. Nor will I ever let anyone hurt her," he swore as Sesshomaru handed Shippo Rin's hand.
The kitsune beamed at her. "You look beautiful," was all he could say.
She smiled. "And you look as if you've just seen a ghost."
His face turned beat red and she laughed. "There's the colour."
That just made him blush more as he led her to the alter. Kagome smiled at them.
She couldn't get over how much the children had grown. Thoughts of Shippo went through her mind. It seemed like only yesterday, she was helping Inuyasha save him from the Thunder Brothers. Now here he stood before her, in a black tux, about to be married to the only girl Kagome could have ever seen him with.
Even back in the Feudal Era, Kagome had always pictured Shippo and Rin being together. In her eyes, it only made sense. They were destined for one another.
Memories of their time together engulfed Kagome. The small kitsune. Always smart, always clever. Inuyasha used to tease him horribly, but he did it out of love. Shippo's favourite places to sleep were next to Inuyasha or next to Kagome. He loved to sit on her shoulder or ride on Kirara.
Kagome blinked away the tears that were forming as she began the ceremony. She raised a large goblet. "Love. Life revolves around love. Through love we find peace, happiness, and life. Yes, there are hard times. Love tests us. It tries us. But, love conquers all. Love makes everything worthwhile..."
Inuyasha watched from his spot on the bench. "Why don't you just shot it, Kikyo?" he remembered.
The first time he had seen Kagome, he had mistaken her for his old love. A love that had betrayed him. Only later did he learn that the love hadn't betrayed her. In fact, another had. By then, it had been too late. Kikyo had died.
He knew, no matter what, he would always love Kikyo. Just as he would always love Kagome. But, the miko was right. Love tests us. And he had failed that test miserably. Not once, but twice. He only hoped if he ever had a third chance, he would actually pass the test for once.
He looked at Shippo and Rin. As did everyone else in the room. He rememberd when the kitsune had been young. Remembered the years of training, learning. He had taught the kit everything he knew. Everything about life, love, responsiblity, loyalty, and honour. He taught the kit how to fight. He had watched him grow into a man.
The hanyou was proud. Here was a man, not a child. Shippo had grown to everything Inuyasha had hoped for and more. He knew the kitsune would have wonderful children and live a wonderful life.
"Shippo, do you take Rin to be your lawfully wedded wife. Do you promise to honour and obey her? Be with her in good times and bad, sickness and in health, as long as you both shall live?"
The kitsune smiled. "I do."
"Rin, do you take Shippo to be your lawfully wedded husband? Do you promise to honour and obey him? Be with him in good times and in bad, sickness and in health as long as you both shall live?"
A tear escaped Rin's eye. "I do."
Kagome addressed the assembly. "Is there anyone here who believes these two should not be wed? Speak now, or forever hold your peace."
She waited a moment, and when no response came, she looked at Tomo. "May I have the rings please?"
The spider demon looked at her and paled. "Rings? What rings?" he asked, looking dumbfounded.
Shippo froze as Rin turned to him. The girl nearly panicked. "What happened to the rings, Shippo?" she asked. "You were supposed to give them to Tomo."
"I did!" the kitsune exclaimed. He looked at the spider demon. "Remember? When we were in the room, I handed you the rings. You put them in your pocket."
The spider demon turned out his pockets to show he didn't have the rings. "I don't recall you ever giving me anything, Shippo. Are you sure you gave them to me?"
"Lord Sesshomaru!" Rin cried out, causing the dog demon to stand.
Tomo burst into laughter. He opened his left hand to show the rings were safely in the palm of his hand. Rin just stared at him. Shippo blinked a few times.
Did Tomo just pull a prank? The spider demon wasn't known for doing such things. After all, he was quite a serious person.
Rin looked at Asakura. "Come get your husband before I kick him!" she told the Lady.
This only made Tomo laugh harder as he handed Kagome the rings and went to sit next to his wife.
"Tomo, what are you doing?" Rin asked.
The spider demon shrugged. "You told my wife to come and get me. I figured I'd save her the effort of standing up."
Rin twirled to her mother. "Mom, he's not funny," she complained as Kagome stifled a laugh.
Shippo touched Rin's cheek. "Love, it does not matter," he whispered, drawing Rin's attention. "We have one another. That's all that matters."
She nodded as Kagome handed Shippo her ring. He slipped the ring on Rin's left finger and smiled. "With this ring, I bind myself to thee, and wed thee."
More tears fell down Rin's cheeks as she took Shippo's ring and repeated the same thing to him. He mouthed the words "I love you," and she smiled.
Kagome lifted her arms into the air, "I present to the world, Prince and Princess Taisho Shippo," her voice rang out. She looked at them and winked. "You may kiss your bride."
Shippo gathered Rin into his arms and pressed his lips against hers, kissing her deeply, passionately. The assembly stood up and applauded.
Tomo picked up his son and kissed his mate tenderly on the lips. He had pulled the prank on purpose. Just to be with his mate. It was an odd feeling, having someone.
Now Tomo knew he would never be alone...

I hope you all enjoyed Tomo's Girl. I know the story wasn't really about the main characters, but, hey, in my book, Tomo and Asakura are main characters.
I apologize for not having given Asakura a description. My absent mind thought I had described her in Love is What Keeps Us. Namura is cute. I would like to do a story on him, but I think I'll save that for another time. Right now, I have other ideas I wanna play with.
I'm sure I'll come back to this particular series. I enjoy writing story series, as it makes it seem like it's part of the story. That, and it's fun. But, for now, this series will be on hold. Just know, it ain't over yet.
