Tragic Love Triangle
Chapter 3
Hidden Invitation
Inuyasha had been up for hours. He always woke earlier than anyone else. He didn't need much sleep since he was a hanyou. From the moment he awoke, all he could think about was Kagome. The sadness he felt within her.
He hadn't intentionally made her cry. He just wanted to know the answers to his questions. Although he was secretly happy that she would show so much emotion to him in such a little time of knowing him. It brought a sense of elation to him knowing he could get her to open up.
Still he couldn't help thinking that he should help her. Help her get away from the horrible life she lived. He couldn't believe the thoughts that were running through his head. How could he feel this way about a woman he just met? Was this love at first sight?
All his life he'd thought falling in love was something that would never happen to him. Love always ended in tragedy. Or so he thought. Here he was falling in love with a stranger.
His thoughts were interrupted when he heard a knock at the door. He must've been thinking deeply. He hadn't even heard the footsteps coming or smelled the scent. "Come in." He said.
The door opened and Kagome stuck her head in. "Breakfast is ready if you're hungry. Sesshomaru-sama and Miroku-sama are already downstairs."
"Arigato." Inuyasha said. He walked out of the room and looked at Kagome. She was wearing an outfit similar to yesterdays but it covered her stomach and it was white. She was also wearing the necklace from last night. "You look nice."
Kagome blushed. "Arigato."
Inuyasha started heading down to the dining room but stopped when he noticed Kagome wasn't following him. "Aren't you coming to eat?" He asked.
"I'm eating in Naraku's room. I just came to let you know breakfast was ready before I went." Kagome said.
"Oh." Inuyasha said, a little disappointed. He watched Kagome disappear down the hallway and headed down to the dining room.
"So, you finally join us." Sesshomaru said.
"Shut up." Inuyasha said.
"We've been down here for a while now." Miroku said.
"What's with the red hand print on your face?" Inuyasha asked.
"Ah, that was from Sango." Miroku put a hand on his cheek and sighed.
"Baka." Inuyasha rolled his eyes.
After everyone had finished their meals Naraku walked into the room with Kagome by his side. "I have some urgent business to take care of. It seems some rebel youkai are making some trouble and a solution needs to be made. I'm sorry for the inconvenience." Naraku said.
"It's alright. The people are important." Sesshomaru said.
"I'm glad you understand." Naraku said. "Kagome has offered to show you to the nearest village. You can leave whenever you're ready."
"We're ready any time." Sesshomaru said.
"Well, let's go to the stables and get some horses." Kagome said.
"Be careful and have fun." Naraku smiled and kissed Kagome on the cheek.
"I will." Kagome said. "Follow me."
Inuyasha, Miroku, and Sesshomaru followed Kagome outside to the stables. Sango was standing near the horses when they all arrived. "Sango is coming too?" Miroku smiled lecherously.
"Hai, she is." Kagome said. "She's my protector."
"A woman?" Sesshomaru asked.
"Hai, a woman." Sango said irritably.
Kagome laughed at Sango's anger. She always got mad when someone questioned her skills just because she was a woman. "Sango does a great job." Kagome said.
"I'm sure she does if Naraku put you in her protection." Sesshomaru said. "I didn't mean to offend you when I asked."
"It's alright. Not many people think I can do much because I'm a woman." Sango said.
"Well, choose a horse." Kagome said.
Each of them got on a horse and waited for Sango and Kagome to get on theirs. Sango grabbed a boomerang about as big as her and strapped it to her back. She got on the horse and waited for Kagome.
"Is that your weapon?" Miroku asked.
"Hai, I've used it ever since I started training." Sango said.
"She's really good with it. I suggest not to make her mad while that's in her reach." Kagome warned.
"I'll try to remember." Miroku laughed nervously.
"You'd better, Houshi-sama." Sango narrowed her eyes at him.
As soon as Kagome got on her horse they all rode towards the nearest village. It wasn't too far away so they made it there quickly. They gazed at the surroundings as they passed the forests and fields.
"Here's the village." Kagome said. They all dismounted and left the horses in the care of one of the villagers. Kagome paid the villager and turned towards everyone. "Well there isn't much here since this is the village where all the trading and selling is."
"Well shall we take a look around anyway?" Miroku asked.
"I guess, you could buy things if you want." Kagome said.
"I think I'll walk around. Shall we meet back in an hour?" Sesshomaru asked.
"Hai." Kagome said.
"Why would Sesshomaru want to go alone?" Sango asked.
"Probably to buy something for Rin." Inuyasha said.
"Rin?" Kagome asked.
"His human girlfriend." Miroku said.
"Human?" Kagome and Sango asked.
"As much as he said he hates humans, he is attracted to Rin." Inuyasha said. "Can't cover something like that."
"It runs in the family." Miroku looked at Inuyasha.
Inuyasha narrowed his eyes at Miroku. He was hinting at something and he was going to find out what. "Sesshomaru always comes back with Rin's scent. We met her awhile ago when her family was attacked by wolves. Sesshomaru offered her a place in the palace to stay, since she was the only survivor."
"She wasn't a survivor. Sesshomaru revived her, remember?" Miroku said.
"She's the only one alive out of her village." Inuyasha said.
"That's horrible." Sango said.
"Hai, losing your whole family." Kagome said with a distant look in her eyes.
"Well we better get looking around. We don't have long until we have to meet back here." Sango said changing the subject. She knew all about Kagome's past and knew she was thinking about her family.
"Yeah." Kagome said.
"Well I for one would like to visit the temple in this village. Sango, care to show me where it is?" Miroku asked.
"As long as you keep your hands to yourself." Sango warned. "We'll meet up with you and Inuyasha later."
"Hai." Kagome said. When they were out of sight she turned to Inuyasha. "So what do you want to look at?"
"Doesn't matter." Inuyasha shrugged his shoulders. "Just walk around for now."
"Let me know if you want to look for anything specific." Kagome said.
As they walked around Inuyasha noticed she wasn't wearing the necklace she was earlier. "What happened to your necklace?" He asked, thinking maybe she lost it.
"I took it off." Kagome said.
"You don't want it stolen?" Inuyasha asked.
"No, it's from Naraku. I only wear it around him." Kagome said.
"Oh, sorry I asked." Inuyasha said when he noticed she got a little sadder.
"It's ok." Kagome said. "So, have you thought of something you wanted to look at?"
"I don't really need anything." Inuyasha said.
"There's a river close by. It's really pretty this time of day." Kagome said.
"Let's go there then." Inuyasha said.
"Okay." Kagome smiled.
Inuyasha smiled as he followed Kagome. Once again he saw that beautiful smile. But just once he'd like to a genuine smile. Not one laced with sadness.
They walked a little way from the village and reached a river. Kagome was right it was pretty. The sun shone on the rocks in the river making them sparkle. The river water was clear and the grass was green. It really was a sight to see.
Kagome kneeled down in front of the river, dipping her hand in the cold water. She stood back up and sat on a fallen log near the river. Inuyasha sat down beside her and tucked his hands into his sleeves. They both sat comfortably, looking at the view.
"You really like places like this, don't you?" Inuyasha asked. "Quiet secluded areas."
"Hai, I barely ever get time to myself." Kagome said. "In fact, this is the most I've ever been away from Naraku. It's great to get away from him. Beautiful places like this always calm me."
"You should visit the Western Lands. Everywhere is like this. Calm and beautiful unless your in the villages or palace. Even inside the palace there are places where you can escape too." Inuyasha said.
"I take it you don't get much time alone either." Kagome said.
"No, everyone wants something. Whether its work or something else." Inuyasha said. "Women just love to drive you nuts when your royalty and have money."
"I'd think so. It must be nice to have so many places to escape." Kagome stood up and walked passed Inuyasha. "We should get going."
Kagome started walking again and Inuyasha stood up. He caught up with Kagome and hugged her from behind. Kagome gasped and he brought his mouth to her ear. "One day I'll take you away and show you." He whispered. He let go and headed towards the village.
Kagome stood shocked. Had she heard right? Take her away? He wanted to take her away? But why?
She had no time to think about when he called her. "Sesshomaru's going to get mad if we're late meeting him. He's patient but gets aggravated really easily."
"Ah, hai." Kagome said and ran to catch up to Inuyasha.
