Chapter 1 - Through the Well

`Now... If I go now, he won't catch me, he'll never know!'

`No! He'll find me! I can't!'

`I can do it; he's back in the village. If I hurry... this is my only chance, go NOW!'

Kagome darted out of the bushes and sprinted as fast as she could towards the entrance of the Bone-Eaters well. She quickly glanced over her shoulder to make sure Inuyasha wasn't following before she turned back and ran even faster towards the opening that would take her home. She hadn't seen her family in over 2 weeks, and she was desperate to have a hot bath and catch up on gossip with her friends.

`Yes! It's going to work! Inuyasha isn't going to stop me!' Kagome thought happily to herself as she neared the well. Smiling, she leaped over the edge and practically dove into the darkness.

"I don't think so!" Inuyasha arrogantly yelled to Kagome as he grabbed her ankle while she was beginning to descend into the well. He easily pulled her back up and out of the opening and set her down on the grass.

"How did you-!? Where did you-!? INUYASHA!?" Kagome stammered, eyes wide and mouth open.

"I thought you would try to go home. I decided to watch the well, and sure enough, you tried to sneak back to your own fucking era." Inuyasha proudly explained, a faint smirk playing on his lips.

"But I do want to go home! I haven't seen my family in weeks, and after that last battle, I really could use a nice warm bath..." Kagome tried to explain to the oblivious hanyou.

"You can bathe here. And you don't need to go home, cause you're already at home, baka!" Inuyasha said.

"Err! I need to see my family!" Kagome persisted, a pleading look crossing her face.

"Maybe later, but right now you're going to stay here with us. Besides, Kaede said she wanted to talk to us all." Inuyasha said.

"But Inuya-" Kagome's words were quickly cut off as Inuyasha picked her up and leapt away back towards the village. She let out a scream and instinctively pulled herself closer to the hanyou. A small smile crossed Inuyasha's lips as he tightened his hold on the young girl.

`Its so soft and warm laying here in Inuyasha's arms... But wait! I'm supposed to be mad at him!' Kagome thought to herself as her and Inuyasha bounded towards the village. The warm feeling that she had started to feel was quickly pushed away as her rage towards the hanyou returned. Inuyasha stopped in front of Kaede's hut and unceremoniously dropped Kagome to the ground.

"Ite!" Kagome yelled and angrily looked up at Inuyasha. However her expression quickly changed to a smile as Shippo came running towards her and jumped into her lap.

"Sorry Kagome, but I couldn't stop him from going to get you! At least now you get to spend more time with me though, right?" Shippo whispered looking up at Kagome with an adorable smile. Kagome just smiled back at the young kitsune. She stood up and walked into Kaede's hut with Inuyasha following close behind. Miroku and Sango were already seated and looking up at Kaede when the others walked in. Kaede was huddling over the fire obviously cooking something.

"Mmmm! Smells yummy!" Shippo said.

"Ah yes. It is an ancient recipe passed down through the generations of my family. It contains toad liver, onions, and shredded herbs, and it is said to be very good for the complexion." Kaede explained.

"Ew! Toad liver!? Forget it." Shippo complained. Kagome covered her hand to stifle a giggle.

"Anyways, hag, what did you want?" Inuyasha asked.

"Ah yes. As you know, Inuyasha, the moonless night will be arriving in a matter of hours, which ensures your transformation to a human." Kaede said.

"Keh." Inuyasha muttered. Kagome had completely forgotten that a month had passed since the last time Inuyasha had become human.

"Well, I'm sure you all remember what happened the last time Inuyasha transformed. You were attacked by a remarkably strong youkai, and Inuyasha nearly lost his life in battle." This comment from Kaede had Inuyasha muttering darkly under his breath. Indeed, the last time Inuyasha was in his human form he had been gravely injured protecting Kagome and the others from a Youkai.

"So..." Kaede pressed on, "I think it would be best if Inuyasha went to Kagome's era tonight until he is transformed back into his regular hanyou form."

"What!? HE has to come back with me!?" Kagome complained, glancing at Kaede and then turning to face Inuyasha, her brows furrowed and a look of pure irritation on her face.

"No fucking way! I can handle myself! I'm still able to fight when I am in my worthless human form!" Inuyasha argued, a look of annoyance and frustration on his face.

"I will not have you stay here, Inuyasha! Your human strength does not compare to that of your regular hanyou strength. Kagome's time is much safer for you. I believe that Kagome wishes to return to her era? Now you can keep an eye on her, and the jewel shards." Kaede added. At that he agreed to spend the night in Kagome's time.

"But only to watch over the jewel! Not because I'm weak and not because I have to baby-sit Kagome!" Inuyasha said. Kagome scowled at his statement, but began to pack her bag, happy that she would finally get to go home. A short while later, Kagome and Inuyasha were walking through the forest heading to the well.

"I want to chaaange the world.. kaze wo kakenukete, nanimo osorezu ni..." Kagome softly sung to herself as Inuyasha listened.

"What the hell are you singing!?" Inuyasha asked.

"I donno..? It's this song I heard off a show on TV." Kagome replied.

"TV? Is that the box with people inside? From your era?" Inuyasha asked, full of curiosity.

"Yeah, but the people aren't really inside the television. Its something to do with satellites-"

"Sa-tal-lites?" Inuyasha emphasized each syllable. Kagome only sighed and gave Inuyasha a helpless look.

"What!? You can't expect me to know about all the weird stuff from your time. All of those car-thingies speeding around and those astronauts you were telling me about before... everything from your time is seriously fucked up, except for ramen, of course." Inuyasha declared. Kagome nodded, not feeling in the mood to argue with the stubborn hanyou at the moment. Feeling a sense of accomplishment for finally convincing Kagome that her era wasn't normal, Inuyasha grinned and leapt ahead to wait for the young miko at the well. When she arrived moments later, Inuyasha gently took hold of her waist and jumped into the darkness of the pit. Kagome felt the usual sensation of passing through time as her surroundings blurred and she reappeared in the small shrine that enclosed the ancient well located next to her house. Inuyasha leapt up to the top and lightly squeezed Kagome's waist before letting her go. Kagome blushed lightly at the small sign of kindness that Inuyasha rarely showed to her. She picked up her yellow bag and walked out into the cool afternoon. A gust of wind rustled the leaves of the Sacred Tree that was standing next to her house. Kagome took a deep breath, letting in the familiar scent of her mothers wonderful cooking.

`It's good to be home.'

The wind blew fiercely sending chills through Kagome's body. Inuyasha glanced at the ominous storm clouds in the distance. They were approaching at a very fast rate.

"Hmm. Looks like you'll be staying inside tonight. One hell of a storm is headed this way." Inuyasha declared, pointing towards the grey clouds.

Kagome nodded, a small frown appearing on her face, as she quickly walked inside.
