InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Treason's Emotion ❯ As the Rain Falls... ( Chapter 2 )
Chapter 2 - As the Rain Falls...
Thunder crashed yet again as Kagome listened to the steady beat of rain against her window. The chemistry notes she was trying to memorize lay abandoned on the edge of her bed as the young girl drifted out of reality and blankly stared outside. Her mother, Grandpa, and little brother had left after dinner. Apparently there was something going on that night - a party or something? Kagome hadn't really been listening when her mother explained the situation; all she knew was that they wouldn't be home until much later that night.
`I wonder what Inuyasha is doing? It's awfully quite downstairs; usually he would have broken something by now. I wonder if he's become human yet? Its not like you can really tell when the sun will set; its already dark outside.' Kagome looked around to find her alarm clock but sighed as she remembered how Inuyasha had broken it many months ago.
`Why am I thinking about him anyways? He's selfish, cruel, and downright arrogant! Yet, when he shows his kinder side, I just can't help but melt...'Kagome continued to think of Inuyasha until another blast of thunder made her jump, knocking her abandoned chemistry notes to the ground. Sighing, she picked them up and placed them in her desk, finally giving up memorizing the confusing elements and particles. Confusing... that's what Inuyasha was. One moment, he would act like the biggest asshole alive, but then his expression would change, and Kagome could notice a look in his eyes. That look that words could not describe. Kikyou; when she was near, Inuyasha would get that same expression on his face. But when he thought of Kikyou, there was often sadness mixed into his expression.
`It's all very confusing.' Kagome declared to herself. Suddenly, another bolt of lightening struck, the thunder so loud that the house shook. Kagome trembled at the explosive noise and hugged her pillow to her chest. The light in her room flickered and went out, leaving Kagome's room dark except for the small amount of light coming through her window. The door of her room suddenly flew open, causing Kagome to scream.
"Relax bitch! It's just me!" Inuyasha casually said as he walked over to her window and looked out to the violent storm. He still had his puppy ears and silver flowing hair, meaning that the sun must not have totally set. Kagome scowled at the hanyou, but began to admire his strong, confident silhouette against the window. Blushing slightly, she quickly turned her head away from him. She didn't see his hair change from silver to black, his dog ear disappear and resurface as human ones, his claws and fangs shrink to normal size, and his wild amber eyes change to dark blue. Frowning slightly, he turned away from the window and stalked over to Kagome's bed before dropping down and sitting cross-legged on the pink sheets, staring at the young girl intently. Kagome quickly looked at him, gasping when she noticed he was now human.
"Yeah, I've changed into my useless human form..." Inuyasha said, noticing Kagome's expression.
"Wha-? No! You're not useless like this! You're still stronger than me." Kagome said with a slight smile, trying to cheer Inuyasha up. She was slightly embarrassed that Inuyasha had noticed her surprise at his transformation.
"Keh." Inuyasha replied, looking away from Kagome as the sides of his mouth curled up into a slight smile. Kagome grinned, desperately trying to hold in a laugh.
"What's so damn funny!?" Inuyasha turned to her, looking annoyed.
"Oh, I don't know... I expected you to make some smartass remark, but you didn't. You only smiled."
"I did not smile." He argued. Laughing again, Kagome inched forward to sit closer to the hanyou-gone-human. They sat in silence for a while, just listening to the pounding of rain against the window as the sky continued to darken as the night wore on. Inuyasha breathed deeply.
`Even when I'm human, I can still smell Kagome's scent all over this room.' That's when Kagome saw it. That expression on his face, the look in his eyes. There was no sadness this time, only gentleness and compassion. Kagome leaned over and rested her head on Inuyasha's shoulder. His body stiffened, and he turned wide-eyed to look at Kagome, but her eyes were closed and she was smiling. Inuyasha relaxed and tilted his head to rest it on Kagome's, smiling back to the young girl. Another bolt of lightening and crash of thunder seeped through the house, and Kagome jumped slightly, startled by the loud noise. Inuyasha pulled her closer.
"It's alright... I'll protect you." He said as he ran a hand through Kagome's silky hair. He admired the softness of it, and the way it flowed gently through his fingers. Kagome beamed as she pulled Inuyasha closer to her, resting her head on his chest and savoring the feeling of his gentle touch and warm body against hers. Inuyasha softly cupped Kagome's face in his hands and tilted it to his. His dark eyes seemed to sparkle as he began to lean forward.
"Inuyasha..?" Kagome whispered as she gazed into his handsome eyes. Inuyasha placed a finger to her lips.
"Shhh..." he said soothingly as he brushed a lock of hair from her cheek. He removed his finger and replaced it with his lips, brushing a quick, soft kiss to her mouth. Kagome's eyes widened as she pulled away slightly, blushing a deep scarlet. Inuyasha flashed her a cocky grin as he tucked her tightly against his chest. He turned her around to lay in his lap so that they could both stare out into the fierce storm. Inuyasha wished that she would relax; he could feel her body tense against his. He delicately traced a finger against her cheek and let out a quiet sigh. Smiling when she began to ease into his embrace, he wrapped his arms around her, realizing that he must be scaring her out of her wits with all the touching he was doing.
`Did... did he just... kiss me? And... I'm sitting in his lap? What is going on? He always was more open when he was in his human form, but this is just ridiculous! Oh well, just enjoy it Kagome... it will all probably be over in the morning.' At that thought, Kagome smiled and fully leaned into his embrace. She lightly grasped Inuyasha's arms, holding him to her. She sighed softly, whispering his name.
"Inuyasha..."
Listening to the soft and steady beat of his heart, and the light pounding of rain against her bedroom window, Kagome fell into a dreamless sleep.
