Chapter 12 - Promises

Haha. Wow.. it took me so long to get this chapter out. Please forgive me! Life is so crazy right now, and it just doesn't seem to be letting up. Enjoy!

While writing this chapter, I listened to the song `Whisper' by Milk Inc. It's very good and quite befitting, so I recommend listening to it sometime, if not now while reading.

“Stop.. don't say it.”

Kagome's gaze lifted, her eyes focusing on the ground just meters away from Kouga. She quickly raised her hands to her mouth to stifle the loud gasp that escaped her, shaking her head slightly in disbelief as a waterfall of tears ran down her cheeks and dropped onto the grass below. Kouga turned abruptly, a scowl on his face, yet a sense of relief also visible.

`How can it be...?' Kagome thought, her body rigid and in shock. When she finally snapped out of it, she ran over to Inuyasha and dropped down on her knees by his side, clenching his hand in her own. Inuyasha's eyes were closed, but every so often they would flutter open for a second or so, just enough to give Kagome a peek of the golden pools that lay beyond. Time stood still in the young miko's heart, daring to believe that Inuyasha was really going to be okay, relieved that he was not truly gone. Inuyasha did not move, only shuttered every once in a while as Kagome ran her thumb across his hand, tears still pouring down her face. Kouga stood silent, watching the scene unfold before his eyes. After a few moments, the hanyou's ear twitched, and his body shuttered as his eyes slowly opened. Gazing at the girl hovering over him, the sides of his mouth curled slightly in a sincere smile. Kagome smiled back, letting out a choked sob, trying to retain the joy she felt inside her heart. Her will to live returned, and Kouga sensed her aura pulse with new hope and light.

“On Inuyasha.. you're *sniff* alive!! I'm so happy.. *sniff* Inuyasha.. I don't know what I would have done if you left me.. I could never go on without you.. *sniff* I have to be with you; to live; to breathe... You complete me.. I.. I love y-“

“Hush now.. Let's not end before we start.” Inuyasha struggled to say, humored yet touched deeply by what Kagome had said. His small chuckle turned into a cough, a small amount of blood dripping from his mouth. Kagome's face contorted in deep concern as she held onto her beloved hanyou and wiped away the drop of blood.

“Don't say you love.. not yet... not right now. Some things are better left unsaid.” Inuyasha choked out, closing his eyes briefly before opening them and gazing seriously at Kagome.

“But Inuyasha-“

”Not like this.. I don't want you to say it for the first time when I'm half dead. More than half. But Kagome, I.. I want to..” Inuyasha struggled to find words to fit what he wanted to say, but his head began to ache painfully.

“I want to.. take care of you. I want to stay with you.. and.. I want you to be mine.” Inuyasha muttered - his eyes clenching in pain as the deadly wound in his stomach throbbed. A single tear leaked from Kagome's eye, falling gracefully down her cheek and onto the half demon's hand. Kagome nodded her head.

“I'd like that..” she whispered and squeezed his palm slightly, a genuine smile grazing her lips, her eyes brightened and sparkled as she gazed at the being below her. He was perfect, even now when he was on the edge of death. Inuyasha would have blushed if his body was capable, but his skin was so pale from lack of blood. A low grunt came from somewhere behind them, and Kagome's head darted around to gaze at Kouga. His expression was sad yet peaceful.

“Arrrg... not that fucking wolf... Let me up. I'll finish this once and for all!” Inuyasha attempted to yell, his voice forced and falsely brave.

“No, Inuyasha. I finally understand. Kagome obviously has chosen another to trust her heart with. I will find another. Till we meet again, best of luck, Kagome. You will always have a place in my heart.” With that, Kouga nodded at the girl before sprinting off into the woods. Inuyasha let out a grunt of displeasure, but a sense of relief warmed his heart at the knowledge that his rival would no longer pursue Kagome.

“Fucking son-of-a-bitch wolf just comes and interrupts and tries to steal away what is mine... that bastard doesn't deserve to live... fucking ruining everything and then going into a fucking blood rage... can't even control himself and then punching right through me when I was distracted... fucking-“ Inuyasha's mutters and curses were cut off by Kagome's finger covering his mouth, silencing him instantly.

“Shh.. he's gone. It's just me now..” Kagome soothed, smoothing his hair out of his eyes and stroking his cheek. Inuyasha stared up at the miko, smiling slightly as he raised his hand to the back of her head and brought her down for a soul searing kiss. Their mouths gently parted as they tasted each other, tongues dancing lightly as they discovered the hidden passion between them. Inuyasha's fangs grazed against Kagome's bottom lip as they slowly parted, sending shivers down her spine. They gazed into each others eye with such care and love, lips only inches apart.

“Inuyasha, I love-“

“Shut up, wench! Not yet...” Inuyasha commanded, grinning wildly when Kagome huffed and pouted, staring at him in annoyance. Inuyasha brought her down for one last lingering peck on the lips before pulling her to his side and wrapping his arm around her. Still in much pain and not able to move, the hanyou shifted slightly so that they could gaze into each other's eyes. Kagome smiled at him before closing her eyes and snuggling against him, careful to mind his wounds. Inuyasha let out a contented sigh before nuzzling Kagome's hair and falling into a dreamless sleep.

“Oh Kami.. look at all the blood!”
“What do you think happened here?”
“I'm not sure, but Kagome and Inuyasha seem to be doing fine,” Miroku added, a lecherous grin on his face at the sight of his companion's tangled bodies, sleeping together so scantily dressed. Sango let out a sigh before smacking Miroku lightly on the head. Shippo slowly crept closer to the sleeping couple before letting out a gasp. Inuyasha's complexion was abnormally pale - not so much as to be life threatening, but dangerously close. The monk and demon exterminator quickly hurried over at the sound of the kitsune's gasp before covering there own mouths in shock. With Inuyasha's shirt off, they had a clear view of the damage done to him. Scrapes and bruises littered his torso and arms, while a fist-sized hole was located in the center of his stomach, presumably continuing on through his body all the way through his back. He was breathing heavily, as if it was a great chore just to continue drawing air into his lungs. His arm was wrapped around a young girl, Kagome, whose shirt was ripped and hair was messy, but otherwise she looked unharmed.

“I can smell Kouga! He was here just a while ago!” Shippo declared, keeping his voiced hushed as to not wake his friends. Kirara let out a mewl of agreement and nodded her head rapidly, tails swishing back and forth. Inuyasha, having sensed another's presence, began to stir, letting out a pained moan while stretching slightly. The movement in turn awoke Kagome, who slowly sat up and rubbed the sleep out of her eyes.

“What the fuck..” Inuyasha groaned when he caught sight of his companions hovering above him. Kagome first looked at her ripped blouse stained with Inuyasha's blood, then to said hanyou, and finally up at Sango and the others.

“Kagome, what exactly happened here?” Sango asked nervously.

“Kouga came unexpectedly and battled Inuyasha. He managed to punch a hole through Inuyasha's stomach while he wasn't paying attention, and when Inuyasha went unconscious, he tried to take me away so he could claim me as his mate. That's the gist of it, anyways.” Kagome explained, the others nodding in understanding.

“But how come Inuyasha didn't sense Kouga coming? Shouldn't he have felt him miles away?” Miroku inquired, turning a questioning stare at the hanyou. Inuyasha blushed furiously and averted his eyes before mumbling a `Keh'.

“Inuyasha was... sorta... occupied at the time.” Kagome muttered before turning a deep crimson to match the colour of Inuyasha.

“I see.” Miroku said, grinning lecherously again before Sango smacked him once more. Inuyasha and Kagome glanced at each other, faces still beet red. Kagome noticed Inuyasha wince and clutch his stomach gently.

“Oh my! Inuyasha, you're hurt!” she declared in shock, having never truly considered the full damage done.
“No kidding, bitch.” Inuyasha muttered, giving Kagome an exasperated expression.
Kagome rolled her eyes before gently reaching out and trailing her finger over the outline of Inuyasha's wounds, her touch feather-light.
Inuyasha winced once again before everyone decided that he was in desperate need of some serious treatment. With Inuyasha cursing foully under his breath, Miroku and Kagome managed to get him on top of Kirara. He was still unable to walk, and every movement he made seemed to cause him great pain. Kagome practically had tears in her eyes at the sight of Inuyasha's torture. She walked beside the fire-cat youkai all the way back to Keade's village, which wasted away most of the morning and afternoon. The injured hanyou drifted in and out of a peaceful slumber while his miko watched over him, caressing his cheek touching his hand ever-so-gently.

~

It wasn't until the next afternoon that Inuyasha was able to even sit up. Kouga had really done some serious damage when he had punctured the hanyou's stomach, more than sesshomaru or any other enemy had ever done to him, including the time when said taiyoukai also punched right through his half brother's stomach. Worry etched Kagome's face at all times, and she only left his side for quick washroom breaks and a trip through the bone eaters well to gather some more medical supplies for Inuyasha. As she sat by his side, gazing into his deep amber eyes when he was awake, lightly brushing his hair back or rubbing his hand when he wasn't, words were not needed to explain the feelings that were coursing through each others mind. It was complete peace that encircled the couple. For the first time in either of their lives, they had hope that everything in the end would be alright, that dreams could come true. Kagome's words sang out in Inuyasha's mind; a soft melody that eased his aching body and healed his soul.
`I love you, Inuya-` he could clearly hear in his mind the soft whispers from the morning before.
`She was going to say that she loved me. How could she possibly love me? Was it a lie? No... Kagome would never lie to me or anyone. Her heart isn't like that; she's so pure. I want to believe it. I want to believe she feels the same for me as I do for her. I want to take care of her, protect her, cherish her, love her, make her mine. Would she want the same?' Inuyasha thought, his mind clouding in all the endless possibilities and the one question that shone out through all the rest - `would she want to be mated to me? Does she understand what that would mean? That she would have to be with me.. forever?'

Of course Inuyasha knew the complicated matter of mating. He had been taught at a young age that when inu youkai mated, it was for life. The male was to mark his female by piercing her neck with his fangs, then making a cut in himself and mixing their blood. The mark would heal within a days time, leaving behind a faint silvery scar. The scar would be unique from all others - no two were the same. All youkai would know that the female was claimed and, depending on the scar, they would know who claimed her. The blood of the two lovers would mix, thus uniting their souls and binding them to each other. If the female was human, she would gain some of her mates abilities such as quick healing and a longer life span. The whole matter was extremely complex and as old as the earth, the secrets of the sacred magic being passed on throughout the generations. Of course Kagome didn't know of such things. She didn't know what type of commitment it would be if she were to mate with the hanyou. If she knew, would she still wish to be with him?

He gazed into her gray eyes, finding such warmth and love hidden in their depths. Rising from his position on the small futon, he sat up and clasped her hand in his own. Trying to find the words for how he felt at that moment - wanting to tell her how much he loved her, how much he wanted to be with her, to mate with her and take care of her until the end of eternity - he just couldn't state what he was feeling. No words were powerful enough to express what he felt in his heart. Kagome sensed his trouble, giving his hand a light squeeze and flashing him a sincere smile. Inuyasha snapped out of his trance, his head clearing before scowling at the girl before him, muttering a harsh `Keh!' before grabbing her shoulders and pulling her to him, flush against his chest. Gently turning her to sit in his lap, he leaned against the wall, wrapping one hand around Kagome's stomach and using the other to smooth her hair back, kissing the top of her head softly. He could feel her steady heartbeat, hear her calm breathing, and sense her happiness. With one clawed finger, he turned her face and pressed a lingering kiss to her lips, smiling slightly before releasing her chin and settling back against the wall of the hut. The two sat in complete companionable silence, just enjoying each others presence. As they watched the sun set through the windows of the hut, each drifted into sweet slumber, still in the comfort of each others arms.

“I agree, Naraku. What is it you wish me to do?”

After much thought, Kikyou had decided to help Naraku in his devious plan; to pit Inuyasha and Kagome against each other. The evil hanyou had worked out every possible scenario, finally coming up with a plan that was sure not to fail. In the end, Naraku would have the jewel and Kikyou would have what was rightfully hers - Inuyasha. Of course, once Naraku was in possession of the jewel, Kikyou would send him into the depths of hell along with the jewel so that neither could reign their darkness upon the world. By now, Kikyou had come to the conclusion that the Shikon no Tama was impossible to completely purify, therefore never being able to bring anything other than evil into the world. Besides, even if the jewel was to be totally purified, who would ever pass up a chance to wish for something that benefited themselves? Whoever inevitably wished on the jewel would never wish for something of a pure nature - it would be a selfish wish to grant more power or riches, just like all the others who had ever wished upon the shikon.

This was for the best. Deceiving Inuyasha and Kagome; making them think they betrayed each other. In the end, it would all work out the way it was supposed to. Kagome would be gone, Naraku would be destroyed, and she and Inuyasha would finally be together the way they were meant to be.

“We must act soon. The time for our plan to take action is nigh.” Naraku's sly voice rang through the hollow room. Kikyou looked up from where she was sitting to see the silhouette of the spider hanyou on the other side of the room, shrouded in darkness. When he beckoned for the undead priestess to follow, she slowly rose and began to take steady steps towards Naraku. It was time.
`This is how it is meant to be.' The thought kept running through her mind, convincing her that what they were doing was right. This plan, once it was over, would set everything back to the way it was 50 years ago - almost. Everything would work out, and she would finally claim Inuyasha's soul for her own. A small unsure smile graced Kikyou's lips before her whisper sounded out in the darkness.
“This is how it is meant to be...”

~

“Kagome.. I wanted to ask you something.” Inuyasha said quietly, not meeting his companion's eyes.

It was a beautiful sunny morning that was fast approaching noon. An inu hanyou with sliver glistening hair and stunning amber eyes was sitting on a grassy hill overlooking a peaceful village. In the distance he could see a vast forest. His forest. Beside him sat a young girl. Her appearance was gorgeous and her heart was pure. To bystanders she would appear normal, with the obvious exception of her strange clothing that consisted of a short green skirt and white blouse. However, this girl was anything but normal. She was from the future, able to pass through an ancient old well from her era to the feudal times. The reincarnation of a priestess who was resurrected 50 years after her death; this strange girl possessed immense power and had possession of the Shikon no Tama. Well, not the entire jewel. An evil spider hanyou by the name of Naraku held the remaining pieces. It was against the laws of nature that the two could be sitting next to each other just enjoying each others presence, but fate had intervened. They were destined to be together until the end of eternity.

“Yes, Inuyasha?” Her voice was so soft and gentle. It made Inuyasha's heart sore and his stomach flip. And this time, it also made his voice lost.
“Uh.. uhm.. well, I.. nevermind.” Inuyasha finished, totally flustered and not able to finish his sentence. Even after hours of practicing his speech, he was still unable to simply ask Kagome to be his mate.

”Ask me Inuyasha, it's okay.” Kagome reassured him, leaning over slightly and touching his hand. He glanced up at her, blushing slightly and flashing her a small, unsure smile. He grasped her hand and gave it a light squeeze, giving him an ounce of confidence. This was Kagome. She was sitting here beside him, holding hands. She loved him.

`Just do it. Ask her.'

“Kagome.. how do you.. what do you.. would you want to..?” Inuyasha couldn't seem to find the appropriate words. He had spent all night preparing for what he was about to ask, and yet it all seemed to have suddenly left his mind. Kagome remained quiet, staring at him in polite curiosity. He still couldn't meet her eyes, afraid he would be lost in their smoky depths and be rendered totally useless. However, when the miko gently brought a finger to his chin and raised his head to face her, the hanyou's mind cleared. He smiled and softly whispered,

“Do you trust me?”

Kagome giggled softly and flashed him a heart-stopping smile that made Inuyasha's mind freeze and body soar.

“I trust you with my life, Inuyasha. I always have. Do you trust me?” she added.

Of course he trusted her. It was so obvious that he trusted her with his life, his heart, and his soul. Didn't she know? `Stupid question...' he thought. And that's when it dawned on him - he trusted her. He trusted her with everything he had and knew. She was his light, the purity in his life. He knew she would never break his heart, and that she would never deny him.

“I trust you, Kagome.” He murmured before leaning in to capture her lips in a gentle kiss. That one kiss was enough to explain everything that he felt, and in that instant he knew that his feelings were reciprocated. The bond between them was so strong, as if nothing could separate them. Now only if the hanyou could muster up enough courage to make their bond final. He leaned in and buried his clawed fingers in her ebony locks, tilting her head slightly to deepen the kiss. He would never tire of the taste of her; never become bored of the feel of her tongue dancing with his own. When he went to push her back so that she was lying on her back, a searing pain shot through his entire body.

“Fuck..” Inuyasha cursed. Worry was etched into Kagome's face.

“Don't worry. It's nothing really. I'm still healing from my battle with Kouga two days ago. Fucking wolf..” Inuyasha added, disgust apparent in his thoughts of his rival. Kagome nodded slightly, still worried but put to ease by his explanation. Her lips were still tingling from their kiss, and beamed inside as she recalled the memory.

“Kagome, I still need to ask you..” Breaking the girl out of her thoughts, Inuyasha acquired the full attention of her before continuing on.

“I.. I told you that I want to take care of you.” Inuyasha hesitantly said.

”I know. You do take care of me. I feel so safe when I'm with you-“

“I don't mean like that. Kagome... I want you to stay with me. I want to stay with you.”

Kagome smiled and let out a small laugh. It warmed her heart to hear the love of her life talking so kindly to her.

“I already told you before that I want to stay with you, and that I would stick by you through anything.. Even if.. even if you choose Kikyou, I still-“

“No! That's the whole point! I don't choose Kikyou. As time's gone on, I've come to realize how much more important you are than a stupid promise I made to Kikyou 50 years ago. I've come to realize that I never fully loved her, because the way I feel about you is so much stronger; so encompassing. The way I feel about you consumes my entire being. I never felt even remotely the same towards Kikyou. With you, it's so much more.. real.” After Inuyasha paused, he quickly shut his mouth and blushed ten shades of red. How could he have let so much slip so suddenly?
`There you go, baka! Now you've scared her and she'll probably run away and never want to see you again!' His suspicions were confirmed when he smelled the salt of Kagome's tears.

“Shit. I knew I said too much. Fuck, I'm sorry. I'll leave now-“ He was silenced by a finger to his lips. Kagome was staring at him with such happiness in her eyes - her joy was practically radiating from her body. It completely confused the hanyou.

“Do.. Do you really mean it?” Kagome choked out. Inuyasha gulped and slowly nodded. Kagome let out a muffled sob and flung her arms around him, her sobs shaking her body violently.

“You.. you're happy?” Inuyasha questioned, pulling away slightly to gaze into her eyes.

“Of course I am baka! I've never even dared to dream about this, too afraid that I would be hurt in the end when you never felt this way.” She said, exasperation apparent in her voice. Inuyasha blushed and averted his eyes, letting out a soft “Keh!”. Kagome giggled at his embarrassment.

“So does this mean that you'd want to uh.. be with me? Like.. be mine?” Inuyasha asked, completely overcome by nervousness.

“What do you mean?” Kagome questioned. Blush crept up Inuyasha's neck and spread across his cheeks.

“I mean.. Kagome. Like, would you.. do you.. wanttobemymate?” Inuyasha rushed out, turning his head away from the young miko and scrunching his eyes. `That sounded so lame! Stop being such a pansy and just ask her!' The hanyou thought.

“Uhm, pardon?” Kagome meekly asked. Inuyasha felt so stupid. He rounded up the last of his courage before speaking again. After all, if he could fearlessly go into battle against a hundred youkai, he should be able to simply ask this girl a question, right?

“Errrr.. Okay, Kagome, do you want to be my mate!?” Inuyasha practically shouted, annoyed with his inability to totally rid himself of nervousness.

“Your mate? Sure.” Kagome smiled happily, nodding once and grasping the hanyou's hand.

“You mean it!? Just like that, you can decide something so important?” Inuyasha was baffled. How could anyone decide something so life-changing without any sort of thought or questioning?

“Of course.. but uh.. what are `mates' exactly?” Kagome sheepishly smiled and scratched the back of her head. Inuyasha practically fell over at her statement. Sometimes Kagome could just be so dense.

“Inuyoukai mate. It's kinda like getting married for humans, but not really. There's no exchanging of rings or a huge ceremony. The male claims the female by marking her and fusing their blood, scents, and uh.. souls. So it's sort of like the two beings become one, but not really. It's more like.. like they're bound to each other. But.. it can never be reversed, and the bond lasts until the end of eternity. At least that's the gist of it.” Inuyasha explained, still rather red in the cheeks but gaining some slight confidence. Kagome looked extremely thoughtful, taking in every word her beloved hanyou said and processing it all quickly. So, if she understood correctly, if she and Inuyasha were to be mated, they would be together forever? He would practically belong to her and her to him? Their blood would be merged, as well as their souls. It sounded next to perfect to Kagome. Finally she would get a chance to be with Inuyasha - the man she loved with all her heart. And Inuyasha wanted this too? Could it be possible for him to actually love her and want to be with her? Until the end of time?

“You want that for us? You'd want to be with me forever?” Kagome questioned, uncertainty apparent in her voice. Inuyasha hesitantly answered.

”Well.. yeah. But if you don't want to, that's okay! I don't want to pressure you or anything, and I understand if you don't want to be with me, and you'd probably never want to be stuck with a hanyou, and your life is on the other side of the well so when this is all over you probably want to just get away from me, and it was just a stupid question. Forget it.” Inuyasha was rambling, completely embarrassed at having asked Kagome such a question. Of course she wouldn't want to be with him, it was absurd!

“Yes.” Inuyasha glanced up when he heard Kagome mutter that single word. What the fuck was she talking about? She must have lost her mind.. the word `Yes' didn't even make sense.

“Yes.” Kagome said again with such confidence. She glanced up at him and placed her hands firmly on each of his knees and rose up slightly so she was facing him directly. Inuyasha just sat there, his mouth slightly open. What was she talking about?

“Uh, Kagome. What do you mean `Yes'?” Inuyasha inquired, raising an eyebrow slightly.

“Yes, I want to be your mate. I want to be with you. Forever. For always.”

Always... he could picture it so clearly. It was only a few weeks ago that Kikyou had come to pay him a short visit. He had been with Kagome at the hot spring, kissing her passionately when they had been interrupted by his undead first love.

Always... zutto... that is what you had told me, and you swore it was not a lie. Do you still swear it? Do you promise me that your love was and is forever, for always?” Kikyou turned her head and stepped even closer to Inuyasha so that they're bodies were only inches apart. She brushed a hand through his silver hair as she had seen her reincarnation do only moments before. Inuyasha remained quite, his eyes wide and mouth open slightly. Kikyou took this opportunity to place a small kiss to his lips. A shy kiss underneath a willow tree.

“Always, Kikyou. Forever.” He whispered softly, still clutching the young woman.

And Inuyasha supposed that some small recess of his heart would always love Kikyou. But not the way he loved Kagome. He loved Kikyou because she was the first to ever show any amount of care to him. He loved Kikyou because she was willing to give him a chance if he was willing to give up being demon and become human for her. He loved Kikyou because she was his friend, and all of his friends would always have hold part of his heart. However, Inuyasha loved all of Kagome - every inch of her gorgeous body; every strand of raven hair; every thought that crossed her mind; every ounce of her enormous loving soul.

“Always, Kagome. Forever.” Inuyasha whispered at the young girl sitting in front of him before wrapping his arms around her in a fierce hug, pressing his lips to hers with such passion and emotion. Kagome rose off the grass and tumbled against her hanyou, returning the kiss with equal fervor. The couple toppled over - Kagome lying atop of Inuyasha's strong chest and trapped by his powerful arms.

`She wants to be with me. She wants to be my mate.' Inuyasha's heart was exploding with such overwhelming joy - he would spend the rest of his days with Kagome.
`He really does feel the same. He wants to be with me until the end of time.' Kagome never thought she could experience such happiness. All of her hopes and dreams were finally coming true. She would spend the rest of her life with the man that had captured her heart the moment he looked at her through those deep golden eyes.

Eventually the two broke for air, panting and still clutching each other tightly. There was still something Kagome was unsure of.

“Inuyasha.. how do we become mates?” Kagome asked, raising her head slightly to look at the hanyou. Inuyasha immediately tensed and looked incredulously at the girl in his arms. Yeah, Kagome could be so dense.

“Uh.. we uh.. have to make love. Like.. sex.” After that day, Inuyasha was sure his face would be permanently stained red. Kagome was simply staring at him, her eyes wide and her mouth slightly agape.

“Oh.” Kagome whispered, still in shock at what Inuyasha had just informed her. After a few moments of silence her mind cleared. Blinking a few times and still gazing at an embarrassed hanyou, she spoke again.

“Alright then. Well, let's get started.” It was now Inuyasha's turn to stare wide eyed at Kagome. However, he only had a couple seconds of clear thought before Kagome's lips crashed down on his own and her hands began to wander his body. Inuyasha's tongue delved into Kagome's sweet mouth and instantly waged war against her own tongue. He could smell her musky arousal building and instantly felt himself harden. Flipping them around so that he was on top, Inuyasha pinned Kagome's arms above her head and attacked her neck with his lips and teeth. Kagome squirmed beneath him when one of his clawed hands began to make its way up her shirt.

“Fuck!” Inuyasha cursed, pulling away slightly and clutching his stomach. Concern and disappointment clouded Kagome's mind. Inuyasha glanced up at Kagome's flushed cheeks, her clothing rumpled and her hair playing about her face. Inuyasha let out a small bitter laugh before pulling Kagome into his lap.

“Not yet. I've got to wait until I'm fully healed before we become mated. That fucking wolf is going to pay for delaying this - it's his fault I'm injured!” Inuyasha added gruffly, his voice husky with pain and his lust for Kagome that could not yet be satisfied. Inuyasha buried his nose in Kagome's hair and inhaled, frustrated that he had to wait to make her his.

“Soon.” He whispered in her ear. Kagome let out a long sigh before turning to face him.

“I can wait, Inuyasha. I've waited this long, what's a few more days?” She said, trying to be optimistic about the situation.

“Two days. That's it. In two days, I want you to meet me underneath the God Tree an hour before sunset. That's when I'll make you mine. Mine, Kagome.” Inuyasha muttered, nuzzling Kagome's neck and licking playfully.

“I'll make it up to you, for having to delay. I can promise it'll be the most intense pleasure you've ever felt. I can't wait to feel you squirm beneath me...” Inuyasha whispered and nipped lightly on her earlobe, pressing his erection flush against her. He enjoyed the spike in her scent and the way her body trembled in his lap.

“Just promise you'll be mine. That's all I need - you to be with me; to be mated to me.” Kagome choked out, her voice not quite working properly.

“Okay. I'll be with you Kagome. We'll be mated, I promise.” Inuyasha said, smiling into Kagome's hair and cradling her against chest. After a moment of companionable silence, Kagome whispered,

“Well... you could promise me the whole intense pleasure thing too.. if you want.” Kagome quickly added, turning completely red at her bold statement.

Inuyasha burst out into laughter and hugged Kagome close, nodding once before chuckling slightly once again. Kagome hit him playfully before settling back against his chest. The two spent most of the afternoon just sitting overlooking the village and Inuyasha's forest, holding each other close and remaining in each others arms.

~~

“In two days...” Silver tears slid down her face; a smile gracing her lips. After so much pain and heartache, everything would be set right.

“This is how it is meant to be...”

Wooo! I've had this chapter written for so long, I just hadn't edited it yet. And I still haven't really edited it yet, but I decided to post it anyways. If there are a lot of errors, please inform me and I'll change it. Sooo sorry for taking forever to update. My life is so insanely crazy right now. It seems like I never have time for anything anymore. I'll try to update again soon, but I make no promises. Reviews will definitely help. Actually, a review is what motivated me to update today! So please review. Thanks for reading!

Disclaimer - a couple of the lines in this chapter are similar to the song `Whisper' by Milk Inc. which is what I was listening to while I was writing a couple paragraphs. It seemed very befitting to this chapter. Just thought I'd get that out of the way, stating that I do not own anything to do with this song.
