“Finally… done” Sango swiped the sweat from her face and fell back unto the sand smiling at their work. “We did a pretty good job don't you think guys?”

“Yeah… I can't wait to see the look on the boys' faces when they see our tent.” Rin smiled dusting herself off. They all had sand in their hair and all over their body.

Kagome smelled her armpits and cringed at the smell. “I'm desperate for a bath right about now. I wonder what time it is.”

“We all need a bath,” Ayame said after sniffing her armpits too. “I wish this place had a hot spring.” The sun was starting to beat down hard now, it almost seemed like it shifted closer to where they were. The girls all lay down in their tent waiting on Serena to show herself and tell them how they did.

A silent fell over the group and it seemed everyone was thinking about different things as they waited.

Rin decided to break the silence, “so… what do you think the boys' tent will look like?”

“Probably like a huge tree with lots of leaves for cover.” Ayame giggled.

“Or two sticks and one leaf on top for cover,” kagome added

“They probably didn't make a tent yet… boys tend to procrastinate a lot.” Sango stated.

“So Kagome where were you this early afternoon, I could have sworn you were gone for like an hour.” Ayame asked out of nowhere. Kagome remembered what had happened and a deep blush crept onto her face.

“Oh nothing… I just got stuck with some trouble that's all.” she replied hastily, suddenly finding the ground so interesting. “No big deal.”

“Oh I see… so you ran into Inuyasha in the woods?” Kagome's blush deepened and she gasped.

“Not really Inuyasha… the truth is I dozed off in the woods okay?” she lied before her guilt got too much out of her. Sango looked at kagome and instantly knew she was lying. Her head was staring at the ground and she wrapped her hands around her body protectively.

“Oh ok…” I could've sworn I smelled Inuyasha on her though… either I'm wrong or she's lying through her teeth. I'm gonna go with she's lying… Ayame thought.

“So… Miroku hasn't bothered you in a while now Sango…did you threaten him to leave you alone?” Kagome quickly said changing the subject, anything to get her away from the line of fire. Now it was Sango's turn to turn red…

“No… he's actually a pretty sweet guy if you get to know him… his not that big of a pervert…”

“Hmm… so you bribed him.” Kagome placed her hand on her chin, “now what could the bribe possibly be about?”

“I didn't bribe him… we've just been getting to know each other a lot lately.” Sango couldn't believe how mushy she was being about Miroku.

“Well… in my opinion, you two seem like a really cute couple, almost as cute as petit Rinny and her Sesshy lover.” Ayame made cutesy faces at Rin.

“You really think so Ayame? Me and Fluffy look cute together?” Rin asked expectantly. Ayame was startled by her sudden question and smiled at the hopeful girl.

“Totally…you two look like two peas in a pod. You can so tell his into you… you're the only one he lets touch him and speaks to you most of the time when we go to the beach.”

“Yeah…you're lucky Rin, you get the good brother…” Kagome winked at her.

“I hope you guys are right… I really like him a lot.” She breathed in hard and sat back on the floor. “His so gentle, and so calm, and quiet, his like the perfect gentleman. It's just I don't want this to be some sort of camp fling and when camps over I'll never see him again.”

“I'm sure he's not like that Rin… keep an open mind.” Sango gave her a comforting hug. Ayame's face had saddened after hearing what Rin had said. “What's wrong Ayame?”

“Oh… it's nothing… well it's just that you guys seem to have your perfect match already. I mean Sango you have Miroku, Rin's got Sesshomaru and Kagome, whether she'd like to admit it or not has got Inuyasha. I'm the only one without someone and... And… I dunno, I guess I'm just lonely.”

“Oh Ayame… you're not lonely, we'll always be here for you.” Kagome reached over and gave her a passionate hug. Then sango joined in and Rin joined in too. “Best friends forever guys.”

“Forever.” They all said in unison.

“Aww you guys are sho cute…” Serena said behind the girls who jumped at her sudden entrance.

“Hi…do you always show up late to scare us?” Rin pointed an accusing stare at her.

“No silly… I do it cause it's fun.” She stuck her tongue out at her and started looking around their cabin. “Nice tent you've got here. You have small holes in your leaves, but good none the less. Good job girls.”

“Thanks!” they replied in unison.

“Now let's go take a look at the boys'.” The girls followed Serena into the forest as they headed towards the boys' camp ground.”

~~~With the Boys~~~
“Where exactly were you today Inuyasha.” Sesshomaru asked tying a part of the tent together.
“I told you, I went to the stream… and it's none of your fucking business.” Inuyasha retorted.
“Stream huh? Then how come you weren't wet when you came and interesting how Kagome scent seems to hang of you like perfume don't you think?” Inuyasha shot a look at Sesshomaru who shot one back.
“What? Wait… you were with Kagome?” Miroku joined the conversation.
“It's none of your fucking business pervert… and you too ass hole.”
“You were with Kagome,” Miroku said knowingly, “Inuyasha you sly dog you.” he put his hand up for a high five only to have Inuyasha walk right passed him.
“One piece of advice brother,” Sesshomaru said warningly.
“And that would be?”
“You better not play her like you do all those other girls… especially that girl with the pasty white skin, yo something, it's not worth it.” He said seriously to him.
Inuyasha's face turned to anger all of a sudden. “Don't you ever talk about Kikyo, and what should I care about that bitch, I don't even like her!”
“I think deep down you really do like her, that's why it bothers you so much.” Sesshomaru put the finishing touches on their tent. “Done.”
“You know what? I don't even care… I don't like her so I won't argue about it.”
“Don't Kagome and Kikyo look very closely alike?” Miroku threw in while the boys gave each other death glares.
“Can you people just stop talking about that wench for fucks sake!” Inuyasha threw his arms in the air exasperated.
“Language Inuyasha… don't want me to have to cut off your lips now do we?” Serena and the girls arrived at their camp ground. Inuyasha mumbled something about stupid brothers and wenches under his breath and sat cross-legged on the ground next to a tree with his hands across his chest and a pissed off look on his face.
The first thing the girls noticed was their tent. DAMN! Their eyes couldn't believe what they were looking at. The tent looked almost like a mini house. It was under a HUGE tree. Lots of room, the roof was nice and secured; no holes in sight. They made their walls with many branches that were tied tightly together with vines. Inside there was a top and a bottom. You could actually climb up into a top bunk. They didn't make a door since it wasn't really needed. They had ripped their comforter in half and were using it as a bedcover. The best part was that everything was completely in the shade. And to top it off, it looked like someone had put a bed on the first branch of the tree. It had leaves on them that made for a soft cushion, sort of.
“WOW...” Rin's mouth hung open staring at the house.
“Wow is correct… this is magnificent. Great job guys,” Serena smiled at them. “So was the bed on the branch accidental?”
“Nope… that was Inuyasha's idea; he doesn't want to sleep in the same tent with us.” Miroku rolled his eyes at him.
“This is like a tree house,” Sango said awestruck.
“Tree house? Try tree mansion!” Rin finally closed her mouth to speak. “We lose for sure…”
“Don't worry girls… you may have lost but there's many other challenges to be won.” Serena winked. “Now here's the deal… since you boys won the challenge, the girls are going to come join you guys at your cabin.” The girls squealed and Inuyasha blew up.
“WHAT!?!”
“oh come on Inuyasha, you didn't actually think I'd make you guys sleep in separate places at night… what if something happened to the girls while they sleep?”
“That's not my fucking problem… you mean we wasted our time making this tent only to have them share it with us? That's bullshit.”
“Oh Inuyasha, don't be so selfish, if it were us we'd let you guys stay with us.” Kagome tried to reason with him.
“Well…it's not you guys now is it bitch?” Inuyasha shot back with a dirty look at her. Kagome stood silent in utter shock. He's still being a jerk even after this morning? I can't believe this guy. Then her face turned to rage.
“You know what… you're too much of a jerk for me to fight with. I'm fed up with your shit.” Kagome stormed off into the woods heading back to their cabin.
“Kagome… where you going?” Sango ran after her.
“Smooth move genius,” Miroku rolled his eyes at his stupidity. Inuyasha glared at him and jumped into his bed on the branch.
“It doesn't matter what you say Inuyasha, they're all going to be sharing with you boys, whether you like it or not.” Serena mentioned strictly and walked away.
“Rin banged on the tree to try to get Inuyasha's attention. “I don't know what your problem with Kagome is but you really have to let it go… seriously you act like a jerk towards her all the time.” Rin gave was ready to give him and earful.
“And seriously, would it kill you to say her name once in a while?” Ayame rolled her eyes at him. “What a pompous idiot.”
“Please excuse him; he's expecting his brain anytime this month.” Sesshomaru hopped on Inuyasha's branch.
“Fuck off sesshomaru…” Inuyasha didn't look at him and merely stared into the sky somewhat sad.
~~~With Kagome~~~

“Kagome wait up… stop running from me.” Sango cried out following kagome's trail. She had to admit kagome was a slow runner though.

She finally caught up and held her strongly by the shoulder. When she turned her around, her face was filled with tears and her heart sunk.

“What's the matter Kagome?”

“Why does he hate me so much Sango?” She searched her face with teary eyes.

“Inuyasha? He doesn't hate you, it's his attitude that makes him act like such a jerk.” Sango wiped tears from her cheek. “Besides, why do you care… just ignore him and he'll go away.”

“I can't just ignore him… can't you see.” Kagome retorted angrily, “everything he says about me hurts, and I don't know why. Maybe if I hadn't gotten so close to him this morning…”

“So wait… you were with him this morning?”

“Yeah… Ayame was right, I ran into a bear while picking branches and Inuyasha saved me.” She wiped her own tears and stared at the ground, “he was so sweet and nice to me, I thought that maybe we could actually be friends.”

Or maybe more…

“But still… usually you insult him back and you two have an on going argument for about 10 minutes until we're all tired of watching. So why are you so upset now?” she looked keenly at Kagome who suddenly found her foot so interesting.

“Well… some things happened and we talked and I dunno… I may have accidentally kissed him?” Kagome looked up with saddened eyes at Sango only to see Sango was smiling at her.

“So…you fell for him huh?” was all Sango said and took a seat beside her.

“I'm not falling for that ass hole, I kissed him as a way of saying thanks.” Kagome tried to defend herself. “He saved my life, it's the least I could do.” sango started laughing now but kagome didn't quite understand what was so funny.

“What's got you so happy all of a sudden?”

“You have… what about your giving up on boys speech, I knew it wouldn't last.”

“What are you saying I'm falling for Inuyasha? Of all people?” Kagome asked surprised as if she's been slapped in the face.

“Did I stutter?”

“Fine…” kagome took a deep breath, “I'll show you I meant what I said, and the day I, Kagome Higurashi falls for the jerk Inuyasha, is the day hell freezes over.”

“Your on.” Sango stuck out her hand and kagome eagerly shook it. “Come on, let's go get our stuff.” They continued on their way to camp and get their items.

Sango and Kagome gathered the girls remaining things and headed back to the boys' camp. They brought Rin and Ayame's swim suits with them and their toothbrush and matches. All Kagome had in her head now were ways to ignore Inuyasha and pretend he didn't exist. She didn't even notice that they had already arrived. Inuyasha watched them from the tree branch and a slight smirk drew on his lips.

So she came back neh?

“You're back!” Rin jumped onto Kagome with a bear crushing hug causing kagome to smile. “Don't worry about Inuyasha, he's a spoilt little brat that's all. Don't let him bother you so much.”

“Oh no way… this just makes me want to win all the more. I'm not about to let a jerk ruin my summer.” Kagome said sternly. Inuyasha couldn't help but notice how the statement was made directly to him and not at Rin.

“That's my girl.” Rin giggled and noticed sango holding they're things. “Oh thanks guys, how nice of you.”

“Yeah…we figured we should get our things from the other camp.” Sango looked around and noticed Ayame and Miroku gone. “Where are Miroku and Ayame?”

“Oh yeah, they went with Serena a while ago somewhere. She said it would be for our next challenge and only one person from both groups could go.”

“I see…” kagome sat down inside the tent. Kagome had managed to not look up to see if Inuyasha was still up there or not and figured she was doing well so far in ignoring him. She laid down and looked around. It really was a good job they did. The space was big enough for everyone to sleep in and they had a bunk bed too? Wow. She snapped out of her thought when she heard footsteps approach her.

“They're here; it's time for the next challenge.” Sango held out her hand to pull her up.

“Gather around me guys.” Serena hollered. “Lets head to the next challenge.” She gestured for them to follow and everyone followed her. The girls were slightly ahead chatting away about what it might be about while the boys walked slower not wanting Inuyasha and Kagome to come across each other. When they finally arrived they were standing in front of what looked like a maze made of bamboo sticks and a center with a high chair on it. Koga was there also and they didn't know what was going to happen.

“Ayame is going to be the eyes for the girls' team and Miroku for the boys. You all are going to be blindfolded while Ayame and Miroku head to the high chair you see over there. This is going to show how well you can adapt to your surrounding and the find your way by following the voice of your team mate. Everyone pickup a blindfold and tie it on tight so that you are unable to see. Ayame and Miroku head to the high chairs and signal when you're ready. The team that can find their way to their leader first and ring the bell wins the challenge. And just to make the teams even, I asked Koga to come join the boys so that we're even.” Koga stepped up with his blind fold on. Serena turned to Ayame and Miroku for the signal to start.

They both gave thumbs up and Rin and Kouga were up first.

“Begin” Serena blew the whistle and instantly Ayame and Rin began to scream for their team mates.

“Walk five steps and turn right, then two steps and left.” Ayame screamed, “Rin watch out for the wall…” she warned before Rin hit the wall. “Now turn right and go straight 10 steps, duck 5 steps after and continue straight.”

Rin was having a hard time telling her left from right, Kouga had already finished and reached Miroku thirty seconds before Rin finally reached Ayame and Sango was up next.

“Girls falling behind,” Serena screamed. It was Sango versus Sesshomaru and Sesshomaru was already ahead. Sango decided to jog and catch up. She moved quickly and hastily putting her complete trust on whatever was coming out of Ayame's mouth. She caught up to Sesshomaru and they reached their leaders at the same time. Inuyasha and Kagome were sent off and Kagome tripped on the bamboo on the floor.

She felt a drive to win and she got up and continued. Following what Ayame was saying she was doing pretty well and started to jog from feeling confident.

“Last round for both boys and girls, first to ring the bell wins!”

“Come on Kagome you're doing great.” Ayame shouted, “10 steps ahead, it's a straight path.” Kagome decided a little faster into a slight sprint. “Slow down Kagome you have to duck.” But Ayame's warning went on deaf ears and she continued her run and ran into the bamboo stick placed horizontal on the way. She fell back unto the sand and rubbed her sore head. “Kagome!”

Inuyasha stopped his walk with his arms widespread around him because God knows he did not believe a word that came out of Miroku's mouth. Inuyasha knew he was going against Kagome. He had smelt her next to him at the start line. The change of tone in Ayame's voice made gave him the indication something had happened.

“Inuyasha, why are you stopping? Move up 3 and turn left.” Miroku shouted. He ignored him and started to walk towards Kagome's scent. Of course he couldn't as there were bamboo sticks everywhere but he felt sorry for Kagome so he decided to throw the challenge. He got down on all fours and started patting his way around the maze.

“What are you doing, come on Inuyasha…” Miroku looked frustrated, “just do what I tell you.”

“Kagome are you alright?”

“Yes…keep going Ayame.”

“Okay walk 5 steps forward, turn right and take 3 steps, then turn left and take 10 steps straight ahead, and you don't have to duck this time.” Kagome slowly did what Ayame had said counting her steps as she walked.

“Turn right now and come forward, put your hands straight out in front of you and when you feel the rope pull it as hard as you can.”

Kagome pulled the string and the winning bell sounded. “GIRLS WIN THE SECOND CHALLENGE!!!”

“YEAH…” Rin hugged Sango tightly. Inuyasha took off his blindfold and a small smile played on his lips as he watched the girls rejoice.

Serena walked up to them smiling. “Congratulations girls… this is your prize for the challenge.” She handed them a basket full of fruits and a fruit knife. There were all kinds of fruits in there, Mangoes, Oranges, Bananas, peaches, pears… you name it, it was there. There was enough for the girls to have three of each fruit.

The boys walked towards them with small grins on their faces. “No hard feelings right guys?” Sango stretched out her hand. Miroku took it and pulled her closer.

“Of course not.” He whispered in her ear and wrapped his hands around her waist. Sango blushed shyly while the rest of the group exchanged knowing looks.

“Alright everyone lets head back to camp.” Serena called them and they started walking back.

“Hey Kagome, you alright?” Kouga came up to her with a worried look on his face. “I saw you run into the stick…”

Kagome blushed and faced the ground feeling embarrassed. I can't believe I did that… Inuyasha probably had a laugh at that. She looked up to see Inuyasha up front, with his arms folded staring into the distance.

A cold breeze whistled by and Kagome rubbed her arms feeling chilly. Kouga saw this and wrapped his arms around her pulling her into him. Kagome blushed a soft red. “Thanks…” she said barely audibly.

They arrived at camp and Serena led Kouga back to his camp.

Inuyasha hopped unto his branch without a word to anyone while everyone gathered around the fruit basket. Kagome was a bit saddened by him leaving. He couldn't possibly be angry that they didn't win the challenge could he?

“Okay… to thank you guys for allowing us to stay at your camp, we've decided to share our fruit with you.” Rin announced handing Sesshomaru an apple. Both boys grinned and pounced on the fruit basket. They were absolutely famished.
Rin cuddled with sesshomaru at the top bunk while Sango sat next to Miroku against the tree.

“Guys I'm gonna go for a swim.” Ayame ran towards the beach leaving Kagome all by herself. She sat alone underneath the tree and watched the two couples talk and laughed together. She watched Sango and smiled at how flirty she was with Miroku. Rin and Sesshomaru… had laid on the bed face to face with each other and every once in a while Rin would giggle or smack Sesshomaru. Her face saddened and she looked up at the tree Inuyasha was in. she sighed seeing him up there, eyes closed and relaxed. She decided to go for a little walk around the forest to see what type pf animals and trees there were in this jungle.

Inuyasha opened his eyes to see Kagome walking off into the woods alone and sighed. This girl never learns to take somebody along with her does she? He looked down at the flirting couples who hadn't seemed to notice Kagome had walked off alone. He jumped down and decided to follow her. Just incase she got into some trouble.

Kagome walked around looking from side to side at the different trees and exotic flowers. She was a bit disappointed that she hadn't seen any exotic animals. So far all she'd seen was a squirrel and a chipmunk. She continued to walk when she heard something behind her. She stopped and swooped her head around only to find no one there. I could have sworn I heard footsteps. She continued to walk and heard it again only this time it was closer. She turned around but nothing was there.

“Who- who's there?” her voice cracked. She looked around scared and decided it would be a good time to turn around. After all… there's no Inuyasha to save her this time. She started heading back when someone grabbed her arm and pressed her tightly against their much larger self.

She screamed scared and quieted down hearing a certain somebody's familiar mock laughter and her face turned from scared to anger.

“What do you want?” she tried to pull herself away from his hold but he held her tight to himself.

“Oh come on… tell me you're not glad it's me and not some psychopath.”

“I don't really see the difference between you and a psychopath Inuyasha.”

“Ouch… that's cold bitch.” He let go of her.

“You still didn't answer my question Inuyasha…” Kagome turned around to continue her walk and he followed.

“And that would be?”

“What do you want?”

“Do I need a reason to walk around?”

“What ever…” Kagome stopped walking and sat down underneath a tree. Her shorts were dirty and wet and now had grass all over it. She was surprised to see Inuyasha sit next to her. An awkward silence grew between them as neither of them knew what to say to each other.

“Do you have more insults to throw at me?” Kagome said breaking the silence. Inuyasha was a bit taken aback by the statement.

“Look… I didn't mean anything by what I did or said… I was just angry that's all.”

“and you look, I'm through trying to be your friend cause all you are is a big jerk…” she got up to leave only to have Inuyasha grab her wrist and pull her to him. She fell into his lap and he held her there with his legs.

“Let go of me you big bully.” She squirmed trying to get free to no avail.

“No…not until you answer my question.” He tightened his legs around her causing her to shift closer to him as not to get hurt.

“wha-what is it?”

“The kiss you gave me this morning…” he paused feeling Kagome tense up. “What the hell was that all about?”

“It was a thank you for saving my life.”

“Bull shit… last time I said thank you I didn't kiss anybody.”

“Well maybe you would, if you actually say thank you.”

“Stop playing with me… you tell me I'm a jerk… glare at me everyday and night and then you kiss me because I `saved you life?”

“Well what do you expect me to say? That I'm head over heels in love with you? Well I'm not… me kissing you this morning was a big mistake, and I would take it back if I could because you are such a jerk. You never call me by my name, you're always mean to me and you scare the hell out of me whenever I'm alone. Sometimes I feel like crying because of how much your insults hurt me.” Kagome said harshly and her heart was pounding louder than ever at what she had just said.

Inuyasha's eyes softened and he stroked her head compassionately. “I'm sorry Kagome…” he kissed the back of her head.

“stop it…” Kagome whispered, “Stop it Inuyasha…” she turned around and faced him tears ready to come out. Inuyasha gazed at her with his golden eyes at her angry yet sad face.

“You always do this… you act all sweet and compassionate then later you say something to hurt me. I'm sick of it.” A tear rolled down her cheek. “I'm not a thing you can do what ever you like to.”

“I'm sorry…” he whispered using a finger to wipe away the tears. He ran his fingers down to her chin and began to pull her head close as he moved his head closer. Before Kagome could register what was going on, he put his lips on hers and she gasped indirectly inviting him in. As if not connected to her brain, her hands wrapped themselves around his neck as he wrapped his hands around her waist pulling her closer where they sat. She willingly closed her eyes and kissed him back as something welded up in her stomach. She felt warm and protected in his arms as she kissed Inuyasha. Her eyes suddenly snapped open and she pushed away from him.

“What's wrong?” Inuyasha looked puzzled.

“I can't do this… not with you…” she got up and started walking back to camp wrapping her hands around herself suddenly feeling so cold.

Inuyasha watched as she left and a small frown graced his lips. WHAT HAVE I DONE…
