Chapter 7 Saving My Love

Inuyasha stood up and help Kagome do the same. He led her away from the couple they had just met. When Inuyasha knew they were out of their hearing range, he turned to Kagome.

“Kagome, I don’t feel comfortable having those two join us on the road.” He told her.

“You know you don’t have to worry Inuyasha.” She assured him.

“Yeah, well what if that demon slayer decides she is gonna try and take me on? I’d probably have to kill her and I don’t like killing humans.” Inuyasha argued.

“She won’t fight you unless you give her a reason. So you just have to be nice around her.” Kagome said smiling. She wanted to giggle at Inuyasha’s worries. ‘He is so cute when he tries acting tough.’ She thought to herself. She gazed at the scowling hanyou, when she finally sighed and spoke. “Okay Inuyasha.” Inuyasha’s ear twitched in her direction to listen to what she was saying. “I’ll make you a deal.”

He was shocked by these words. “Yeah? And what might this deal be?” He asked curiously.

Kagome smiled. “If you can handle traveling with these people until we get to the next town, I’ll give you a present!”

Inuyasha’s mind started racing. ‘What could the present be? Will it be worth letting the demon slayer and the monk come along? What is Kagome planning?’

“Okay, but what is the present?” He asked his curiosity was killing him.

“You’ll have to hold your end of the deal up first.” Kagome grinned as she turned to walk away.

Inuyasha didn’t want her to leave him. He hadn’t had any alone time with her since before the battle. He reached out to her and carefully grabbed her wrist. “Wait.” He said. When she stopped and turned around to look at him, he released her arm. He looked at her a little ashamed for asking her to stop. Kagome didn’t mind though. She cupped his cheek in her hand and smiled at him.

“Inuyasha don’t look like that. I like to see you smiling than frowning.” She told him.

Inuyasha’s face became soft at her words. Her touch sent shock waves down his spine. He pushed his cheek into her hand and closed his eyes. Kagome saw this and smiled again. She wanted to be closer to him. She wanted to embrace him and show him how much she really cared. But she didn’t want to get hurt again. Kagome decided she would wait for Inuyasha to show his feelings first, if he had any for her.
Kagome lowered her hand from his face. She didn’t want him to think she was being too touchy. Inuyasha already missed her warm touch on his cheek. He opened his eyes to see Kagome’s warm smile. He smiled back at her. Her smile seemed to be contagious.

“We should probably get back to Sango and Miroku, Inuyasha.” She told him. Inuyasha sighed and nodded. He didn’t want to but he made a deal with Kagome. The two walked side by side back to the area where their acquaintances sat. Kagome looked at Inuyasha and smiled at him.

When they got back, Kagome walked up to Sango. Sango had changed into her normal, everyday clothes. She wore the same black outfit from her demon slaying one, but her padding was packed away in a blue sack she carried on her shoulders, just in case. She wore a pink long sleeve dress and a green clothe over the bottom half of the dress for some accent over top of the demon slaying clothing. In place of her boots, there were sandals, and her hair was taken down but had a ribbon place near the bottom to keep it in a bit of control.

“Hey do you want to go with me to soak in the hot springs?” She asked Sango.

“Yeah! That would be awesome! I really need a good soak!” Sango told her with a huge grin on her face. Inuyasha didn’t want to leave Kagome alone with the woman he didn’t trust yet. He walked up to Kagome to keep their conversation between them and no one else.

“I’ll keep watch for you while you bathe so you won’t be attacked. That way you can relax Kagome.” Inuyasha told her, completely ignoring Sango that was standing next to her. Sango noticed Inuyasha ignoring her and it pricked at her nerves.

“Inuyasha! You can’t watch!” Kagome yelled at him blushing.

“I won’t peek. I’ll just watch the perimeter while you relax. I won’t disrespect you.” He assured her, wanting her to accept his offer.

“Okay, you can be our watch out.” She told him with a warm smile. Inuyasha sighed in relief. He wanted to make sure she was safe and didn’t want to leave her alone with this stranger. He glared at the demon slayer standing a little too close to him and Kagome for his liking. Sango saw this and glared back. “Alrighty then.” Kagome said, stepping between the two trying to break the tension.

Miroku walked up to his companion and kissed her on the cheek. “Have fun, Sango. I’ll be waiting for you here. I have to do some well needed meditation.” He told her smiling. Kirara meowed and curled into a ball next to the monk’s leg. Sango smiled at the small cat.

Sango blushed when she looked at the monk again. “Okay Miroku. I’ll come back soon to join you.” She told him gazed into his eyes. They both seemed to melt in the others’.

Kagome watched the two’s interaction and wished she could have that kind of affection with Inuyasha. She looked at him and he was starring at her. She turned her face away from his to hide her blush. Inuyasha turned and blushed as well. Inuyasha wanted the exact same thing as Kagome but neither of them knew it.

“I’m ready to go now if you are Kagome.” Sango said skipping over to her. Sango saw Kagome and Inuyasha’s faces turned from each other and blushing. This showed her that they both liked the other, but they were too shy to tell on another.

“Let’s get going then!” Kagome said eager to get out of this tense moment. Inuyasha was also eager so he started walking behind the two women, following them to the hot springs. When Inuyasha could smell the water, he told Kagome he would wait there while she bathed and let her go ahead. Kagome nodded to him and told him they wouldn’t be long.

Kagome and Sango continued on the path to the hot springs. They had started chatting about their interests and some things they had been through. Both of them could tell they would become good friends.

“So how did you and Miroku meet?” Kagome asked curiously.

“Well, it was a few years ago.” She started as the fond memories flooded back to her. “I had been ambushed by a large group of bird demons and I was very badly injured. Kirara was doing her best to fend them off, but she couldn’t defeat them by herself. When the leader came at me to finish me off, all I heard was Kirara’s roar of agony. She was terrified I was going to be killed.” Kagome’s face could tell a story of its own. Sango held back her giggle at the miko’s eagerly listening facial expression. Then she continued. “But then a huge gust of wind came out of nowhere. When I finally opened my eyes, I saw the monk that created the wind. Miroku. And we’ve been together ever since.” Kagome looked like she had stars in her eyes.

“That’s so romantic!” She yelled in excitement. “The man of your dreams saves you from the thing that you are trained to defeat and you live happily ever after together!”

Sango blushed. “Yeah he is pretty amazing.” She said under her breathe.

“When did he propose to you?” Kagome asked.

“Well, that wasn’t that long ago.” She said. “About two months ago, he asked me if I would bear his children and marry him. At first, I told him I would need a little time to think about it. Then a few days later, I told him I accepted but we would need to get to know each other on a deeper level first. I just need to make sure he is the one before I settle down on a whim.” Sango knew in her head that he was the one, but she was still a little shy about the subject.

Kagome took in all Sango said, and she agreed. “I understand. That’s good that you aren’t just being impulsive about such a permanent matter.” She said brightly. Kagome decided it was her turn to tell Sango the story of how Inuyasha saved her. By the time they reached to springs, Kagome had finished her story.

“I really like him, but I don’t know what to do about it.” Kagome said with a sad look on her face.

“I think you should tell him how you feel. You never know, maybe he feels the same way.” Sango said, smiling in Kagome’s direction.

“He wouldn’t have feeling for me. He just thinks I’m a friend.” Kagome told her. She wondered how Inuyasha would react if she did tell him how she felt. He would probably be disgusted and leave her.

“I don’t know. I think he cares for you as more than just a friend.” Sango argued. Sango and Kagome continued their conversation as they started to undress and lower themselves into the water. They two girls relaxed and soaked as they chatted some more.

“You really think he likes me too?” Kagome asked with hope in her eyes. Sango nodded and smiled.

“If you could only see the way he looks at you.” Sango assured her, almost in a sigh. Sango started rubbing the water over her skin, to try and quicken her bath. She was already missing her beloved monk. They had already been soaking for a good half hour and she wanted to join him in meditation. This also seemed to help Miroku focus more when she was by his side.

“Hey Kagome. I think I’m gonna head back to Miroku.” She told her as she got out of the water, dried off and started to get dressed.

“Okay, be careful walking by yourself.” Kagome told her.

Sango nodded and asked her if she would be okay walking back alone.

“Yeah I’ll be okay. When I’m done, I’ll just call for Inuyasha to walk with me.” Kagome said smiling. She couldn’t wait to see her loved hanyou again.

“Alright I’ll see you back at the clearing then!” Sango yelled as she started running in Miroku’s direction.

“Awesome see you then!” Kagome yelled in reply.

Kagome submerged herself further in the water till all that was above the water was her head. Her thought were beginning to take over her mind as she relaxed. ‘Could Inuyasha really have feelings for me? Or was Sango wrong? He does sometimes act like he is a little protective over me. But that doesn’t mean he likes me. He can be protective over a friend. Should I just tell him my feelings for him? Will he reject me? Or will he return my love for him? Do I really love him? Yes. He is my everything. I couldn’t live without him. His touch is like a drug for me. I can’t get enough. If I tell him I love him, and he has feelings for me too, maybe we could be closer, touch more and maybe even get married. Maybe we could have a family. Start a life together. Maybe I can finally have a normal life. No. That doesn’t even matter. If he could love me back would be enough for me. The rest will be up to him. Yeah. I need to tell him now! I know he won’t reject me!’

Kagome stood up to tell Inuyasha about her true feelings for him. First, she needed to wash her body so she could look her best for Inuyasha.

She walked over to a deeper part in the water when she suddenly slipped over a hidden edge in the water. There was a drop in the water. Kagome couldn’t even feel the bottom with her feet. She was completely submerged in the water. She was in such shock that she couldn’t even think of what to do. She flailed her arms and legs, trying to reach the surface. When she did she could hardly keep herself up. Kagome would get above the water and be pulled right back under. Her breathing was becoming more labored and it was becoming harder and harder to take a breath. “Inu… Yasha!” She said as she went below the water and above again.

Inuyasha’s ears twitched. ‘Kagome?’ His thought as he raced to get to her. He could hear her struggling and splashing. He ran as fast as he could. When he reached the edge of the hot spring, he saw her further out in the water. He didn’t even hesitate. He dived into the water and swam to her side and pulled her to dry land. He laid Kagome on the grass gently. He was so worried.

Kagome coughed a few times and a throat full of water came up. At first, her vision was blurred. When it cleared up, she was looking into the eyes of her lover. Their amber color continued to melt her. His hair showered around her as he was a few inches from her face. “Inuyasha.” She breathed.

“Are you okay Kagome?” He asked with worry striking in his voice.

“Yeah I’m fine now.” She whispered to him. Kagome tried to think of what just happened when she realized she was still naked.

“AHHHHHH!” She screamed as she pushed Inuyasha away as hard as she could. She was weak from her struggle a few minutes ago. Inuyasha complied with her and moved. She sat up and covered herself as best as she could.
