Last time:

"Yume planted an ancient curse on her. This curse will drain her powers away as the days go by."

"Will she die?" Botan asked arriving with the rest.

"During the normal cases, she won't die. But…."

"But what?"

"She's pregnant, she will die from this curse if you don't get rid of the child…"

Chapter 23: secrets of the books

It took a moment for them to register what they were just told.

"You said the curse only drains her energy away, why will she die if she is with a child?"

"Why?" Botan asked confusedly. The others looked at her for explanations. They, like Botan were confused.

Sora took a deep breath and told them the differences between a normal child and a sorceress's child.

"A normal child only gets the energy from the food and grows in the mother's womb. A sorceress's child is different. During the forming of the sorceress's child, the baby will feed on the mother's energies. Only a healthy sorceress's can risk getting pregnant. A sorceress's baby is a gem in the eyes of those who knows about its true power."

"You mean it's true that some will hunt the mother to get her baby?" Raiha said unbelievably.

"Yes, its true and the baby is truly worth its worth when it is still in the mother's womb."

"They take the baby out forcefully?" Botan asked horrified.

"Yeah, they only want the baby and especially the first born. The first-born will get most of their mother's energy, and most likely inherit all the mother's powers. When they get their hands on the baby, they will devoured them, taking the baby's power as their own."

"What does that have to do with her dying?" Yusuke demanded.

"Okay, lets put it this way. One, the baby needs a large amount of energy to feed on. Two, the curse is taking large amounts of energy away from her. Three, she will grow weaker but will still live through with the little energy left in her. Conclusion, if both the baby and the curse take away her energies, WHERE ON EARTH DO YOU THINK SHE CAN GET ENOUGH ENERGIES TO SURVIVE?"

That was the last straw. Youko burst out of Kurama.

"Do something then, you are a sorceress as well, are you not?" he hissed out, sending shivers down Sora's spine. Choking her by the collar.

"Where did that silver fox come from?" Kirin asked.

"Kurama is the silver fox." Sesshoumaru replied casually.

"How? I thought he was a ningen. A very strong ningen." Ken said.

"Then, you thought wrong." Glaring at him with cold, golden eyes. The Yu Yu gang was trying to get him to release his grip on the turning blue Sora. Finally, he released her.

"Look, I am not a great sorceress like Kimiko. You have to wait for her to wake up, and to see whether she can break the curse."

"When will she wake up?"

"I don't know. The condition she is in, I say she won't wake up for quite a while…. maybe she won't wake up at all…." She said the last part in a whisper. And she found herself being pinned to the wall by Youko.

"Youko! Let her go!" Koenma exclaimed. He stopped in mid- sentence when Youko looked at him with blood filled eyes. Hiei snatched him away from Sora and went into the room. After they entered the room, Youko's vicious plants blocked any one from entering the room.

"Now what?" Yusuke asked.

"We wait for them to calm down, going inside is suicidal." Sucking harder on his pacifier. He asked the rest to join him at his office. They related everything that happened to him. After hearing what happened, Koenma banged his head hard on the table, a bump formed on his head.

"The…spear is broken. My father is going to kill me. No, cross that. The gods are going to kill me."

"The spear is broken, now no harm will be done. Isn't that better?" Botan tried to get him to think on the good side.

"You really think so. You do have a point but I have a weird feeling. I have a feeling that something big is going to happen soon."

"You are just being paranoid." Yusuke reprimanded.

"No…he isn't…. being paranoid." A weak voice said.

They turned to see Kimiko by the door. A trail of blood ran down the corner of her lips, she was supporting herself by leaning against the door. Kurama was behind her, she slided down to the floor, leaning against him.

They rushed to her side. But she stopped them, with palm facing upwards, she summoned the broken spear. She had gotten the first half of the whole thing, while Yume had the second half. Placing it in front of her.

"The spear…. can still be used. It is…. just as powerful as the whole…. thing. Find…. the place where the darkness…. is sealed. Don't let…. him be released." After saying that, she fainted.

Kurama took her back to the room to rest, this time the others were allowed to join them. The healers came to check on her, reporting that she is getting weaker and weaker.

"Wait a minute. Where is Hiei?"

"Ya, where is the shrimp?"

"He went to get something, Koenma do you still have the book about the Crest Realm?"

"Ya, I do. Why?"

"Can you bring it here? Kimiko says that we will find the answer inside."

"Really! George, go get the book." Footsteps were heard running to get the book. George returned shortly with the book.

"Now what?"

"We wait for Hiei to retrieve the second book."

"But that book is with me." Raiha said.

"I know, Hiei went to get it."

"How did you know I had the book?"

"I wasn't the one who knew. She was the one who knew about It." nodding his head towards the unconscious Kimiko.

"But how?" trailed a confused lord.

"How come both of you have the book about us?"

"My father was friends with one of the ladies, and she gave the book to him as a gift."

"The gods gave my father the book, he kept it in the library."

" Lady? Do you know what she looks like?"

"No, why? Is it important?"

"No…it's just that…. Never mind."

The castle in the shadow~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"Yume…. since the spear is broken, lets stop all these."

"No. The spear can still be used. The curse I placed on Kimiko. She will not have the energy to stop me."

"But, you are also…."

"I will recover faster than her. And, I will succeed this time. Rest well, I thank you for saving me."

"You still can't accept me? After everything that I had done for you?"

"No. I only love Kimiko and no one else." Turning to leave.

"But, she chose someone else."

"I know, I am going to prove that, I am the only one worthy for her." leaving to his room to recuperate.

Back to Koenma~~~~~~~~~

Hiei came back with the book. It looked just like the other.

"Now what?"

"We let someone with sorceress's blood join the books together." Kurama gave the instructions, everyone turned to look at Sora. Sora looked bewildered, and kept shaking her head.

They tackled her and forced her to hold both of the books in her hands.

"What am I supposed to do?"

"Join them together." Hiei repeated what Kurama said.

"How?"

"How should we know? You are the sorceress." Yusuke could feel a tick on his eyebrows.

"Oh well, here goes." Stacking both books on top of each other. Nothing happened. Stacking them side by side, nothing happened.

"Now what?" placing the books down on the table. Sora glared at the books.

"You have to keep trying, if what Kimiko says is true. The books are our only clue to what Yume is trying to release." Koenma shrieked.

"I am trying." She grounded out.

A night passed~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Botan was looking at the book when she pointed out something very obvious.

"Look, both books have covers with the ruling symbols, but this one have another symbol on the other side, like the end of a cover." Turning the end of the book to reveal only the symbol of the Moon Crystal kingdom."

Sora placed the other book above it, a bright flash of pink shone. Light disappeared to reveal a different covering book. This bears the mark of another.

"Here." taking Kimiko's necklace and handling it to Sora. Sora took the necklace from Kurama, looked at it and back to the dent on the cover. She placed the necklace on the dent, reciting the writings around the cover. The book flew open. And a small figure of a lady appeared. She was dressed elegantly.

"My QUEEN!" Sora gasped out.
