~*~*~* Kaggies POV ~*~*~

The next morning rose bright and hot. It still wasn't as hot as LA but it was a far cry warmer than yesterday. The bed in my new room was way too comfortable, and if it weren't for the hot sun beating down on me through the partially agape window, I would have laid there forever. I reluctantly awoke, and walked into the kitchen, scratching my scalp causing my hair to fall out of the messy bun it was in. I yawned loudly and very un-lady like as I opened the cupboard. I pulled out a box of cereal and poured a hearty bowl. After grocery shopping last night, and making up my bed, I was far too tired to eat dinner. My mother was still asleep and I took the time alone to dwell. I did a lot of dwelling. I thought about why we moved so much, about how life in Maine would be. I was going to enroll in school in a few weeks, giving them plenty of time to give me a schedule. I also found my thoughts drifting to the gorgeous boy that lived just across the yard. He seemed like a reasonably nice youth too. I was hoping I could meet some of his friends today and see how he reacted with people who weren't paying him. I scoffed at my own suspicions and finished off my cereal. Seeing as how I had a hearty amount of milk left in the bowl I slurped it down straight from the bowl. It was sugary with little bits of Fruit Loops still in it.

"Oh, how lovely." my mother mocked from the end of the stairs.

"Blah." I stuck my tongue out and put the bowl in the sink.

My mother walked passed me, lightly smiling to herself. I was going to question her mood, but it was rare that I saw a smile like that on her face, so I didn't bother. I flopped on to the couch and turned on the TV. Inuyasha was right, the TV was set up. I flicked through the channels, it was a Sunday morning, and only Televangelists were on. I stopped on channel 53 and watched 'Oral Roberts'.

"Have you found Jesus? The light! The light is in all of you! Lets look to the bible! . . . " I watched on but wasn't really listening anymore as my mother spoke.

"Lets open the door huh? Get some fresh air into this place." she opened the front door without waiting for my response.

I turned my attention briefly to the door as a fresh quantity of light spilled through it, reflecting into my eyes off the glass coffee table. I looked back to the TV.

"Then the lord said, 'vanquish ye unto them . . . "

"Morning." there was a strange tap on the door simultaneous with the greeting. I looked over to see Inuyasha in the doorway, smiling slightly.

"Hi." I jumped up nervously. I was still in my pajamas and my hair looked like I had just woken up (because I had).

"Oh, gosh, the televangelist guy? He scares me so much." Inuyasha joked as my mother beckoned him in.

"How are you Inuyasha?" she asked in an even tone, sipping her coffee.

"I am doing great." he entered the house with the encouragement of my mothers gesturing hand. "How are you guys? Did you sleep well?"

"Great." mother offered just as evenly.

"Yeah, the bed's really comfy." I tried to hide my 'just woke up' appearance, but it was obviously futile.

"Good to hear. I had another reason for stopping by as well, I was wondering if you'd like to come with me to the skate park, I know it sounds boring but a bunch of my friends and I are going and -"

"I'd love too!" I smiled happily and nearly jumped with glee, "I just need to get ready." yes that sounded better than 'primped' or even 'dressed'.

"Cool, uh, come on over to the main house when you're ready. I'll be on the porch waiting for Miroku." he turned to leave the cottage waving 'goodbye' to my mother.

I scurried off to my room and rummaged through my suitcase to find a good outfit. When I established that all my clothes sucked, I settled with a pair of slightly flared Mudd jeans and a black 'O'neil' tank top. I pulled on my black and orange 'Etnies' and jumped off my bed. My hair, I established, would look fine if I took it out of the half-ponytail/bun thing and just ran my hands through it as I walked to the main house.

"Mom, do you know how to get to the mall?" it was a dumb question, but I needed to get some new clothes.

"Actually I do. It's in Portland and its about thirty minutes away." my mother explained.

"Great. Can we go there sometime? I need some new clothes."

"I seem to recall you shopping for summer clothes just before we left LA." she recalled. Damn. She was good.

"Well, yeah, but -" there was no real reason I needed more clothes.

"I suppose this is a new state, and you will need a new look. If you want, I can provide some sort of contribution to the 'My Daughter Needs More New Clothes' fund. We can go next weekend. This week we will be settling in and getting you enrolled at KHS."

"Okay." I grabbed my black 'Independent' pullover, just in case it got cold or started raining. "See you later then." I waved from the door and walked onto the lawn.

I saw a figure on the porch, and knew full well it was Inuyasha. He waved to me and I opened the screen door on the porch and stepped inside. He motioned of me to take a seat next to him on the wicker love seat. The green cushions provided little cushioning but it was nice just the same.

We sat in silence, watching the slight breeze rustle the trees. It was a nice day for skateboarding; even though it would be hotter by the time we got there I was sure.

"My dad has the car." Inuyasha said abruptly, "Other wise I'd drive us." I nodded to show I understood, but didn't know if he was looking so I said 'Oh'.

A few more moments passed in a comfortable silence. I saw a red Thunderbird coming up the dirt driveway and realized it must have been Inuyashas friend. The bass was blaring some song I couldn't decipher at the moment; and as the car came into better view I noticed the license plate read 'Free Brd'. With the proximity of the car I was a little nervous, it was obvious by the way I fidgeted in the seat. I pulled my hair back a few times, debating to place it into a ponytail or leave it down. I left it down gathered on my right side. Inuyasha stood up and I followed his lead.

"Hey Kouga. I thought Miroku was comin'." I noticed Inuyashas accent changed slightly when he was around his friend.

"He was but he got, er, distracted, shall we say? By Sang. Who are you?" the man known as Kouga looked at me, as though sizing me up.

"Hey, I'm Kagome. We just moved in." I tried to act as tough as I had been in LA, but knew it was useless. I never was much of the 'bad girl' type.

"Hey Kagome. I'm Kouga. You guys ready to go?" he looked at me a second longer but didn't seem to think much of my presence.

"Sure. Come on Kagome." Inuyasha pulled the seat forward for me to climb in the back. I did so and he sat up front next to Inuyasha. There was a girl in the back seat with me, I didn't know who she was and I decided to introduce myself first.

"Hi," she beat me. "I am Kikyou Bergman." she extended her hand; much like this were a professional arrangement.

"Hi Kikyou. My name is Kagome Higarashi." I too extended my hand, following her lead.

"Oh, yeah sorry about that." Kouga tossed from the drivers seat. "Kik, Kagome, Kagome Kik." he announced.

"Yeah, we're way ahead of you buddy." Kikyou smirked slightly.

"Bitch." Kouga put the car in reverse completely turned the car around in one fluid motion. He then put the car in drive (logically) and sped down the long dirt road.

I was a little nervous to drive with people who weren't my mother. I had with my ex boyfriend in LA; but he was my boyfriend, for nearly three months and I'd known him for five months. I had just met this Inuyasha person yesterday and his friend Kouga today. Why had I agreed to come?

"Hope his driving doesn't scare you Kagome, he's just trying to mess with you. He doesn't usually drive like a psycho." Inuyasha tried to explain his friend's sharp turns and abrupt stops at stop signs (if he stopped at all).

"Yes, usually he drives like a maniac rather than a psycho." Kikyou added.

"Is there a difference?" Kouga laughed from the front seat.

I noticed that the path we were taking was new to me. Of course, they all would be for a while. We drove along route thirty-five, passed a little store on the left side. There was also a church on the right side, and a few elegant houses. One that stood out was one that was printed on postcards. It was called "The Wedding Cake House". I debated asking the group why it was named so, and why they had built it, but I didn't want to sound like too much of a tourist, so I kept my mouth shut.

We drove on, passed a funeral home, and over a bridge. At the bridge, which looked new, we took a sharp left and went down a sketchy road. There was one house on the corner of the road. We drove down a large hill and then took a left at the end of the hill coming to a modest skate park. It seemed to have been built by the teenagers themselves.

We got out of the car and I noticed there were about five other teens and a couple younger kids hanging out on the ramps. The teenagers came over, while the little kids remained behind.

         "Hey guys."

"Hey Miroku." Inuyasha greeted. "This is Kagome."

"Hi." I tried not to be nervous but all these people were making it difficult.

"Hey." he nodded and smiled. "This is my girlfriend Sango. Sango, this is Kagome."

"Hey Kagome! God it's nice to have another female in the clique!" Sango shook my hand enthusiastically and I smiled at her excitement.

"And just what am I?" Kikyou spoke up from beside me.

"Shut it wench." Sango seemed to be joking. Kikyou rolled her eyes.

"Who are the rest of you?" I asked, nearly getting over my shyness.

         "I'm Matt."

         "David."

         "Kyle."

         "Shippou."

"Kohaku." I hadn't noticed that two of the smaller boys had come over.

"That's just my little brother and his little friend Ship." Sango explained.

"Oh. Hey. Nice to meet you all." I gave a small wave to them.

We stood, conjured like a bunch of idiots. I felt my face begin to flush at what I must seem like to them. 'A creepy shy girl from LA randomly hanging out with the Landlords son'.

         "So Kagome -"

"Please, call me Kags." I interjected. Kagome sounded to impersonal.

"So Kags," Kouga tried again, "What can you do with a board?" Miroku handed his skateboard to me, which I had been oblivious of the whole time he was standing there.

"Uh, a few things." I didn't want to sound like I knew too much or too little, I didn't know what they could do yet either.

"Lets see." Kouga made everyone clear a path.

He walked me over to the nearly flat surface and nodded his head in the direction of the the small bump in the middle. "Think you can manage Kaggie?"

"I can try." I tossed him one of my mischievous grins and climbed the ramp rather than doing kiddie jumps off the small hill.

I hadn't skateboarded in a few months and hoped I wasn't too horrible at it. Naraku had taught me a lot, but I wasn't sure if it would compare to the people here. Judging by the looks of the skate park they weren't much better than I was.

I decided to fake them out a little bit. "Hey, Kouga, could you tell me if I'm standing on this thing right?" Kouga laughed as he got onto the ramp to stand next to me at the top.

"That's skill." he stated mockingly. I smiled at him.

"Good." with that I descended the ramp, without looking down, I averted my eyes only when I felt myself rising, at the other end of the small half-pipe I did a simple nose grab, and turned to come back down, skating up the other side I was a little more daring with a tail grab (which I always had trouble with for some reason), I went to the other side and did a grind, jumping off at the top and stopping.

"Was that okay?" I asked, putting on an innocent face.

"Welcome to the gang." Kouga jumped down from the ramp and I followed him.

"Thanks Miroku." I handed him back his skateboard, "You might want to take off the Pterodactyls though, they aren't suitable for ramps." I suggested, referring to his type of wheels.

"Uh, thanks." He looked at the wheels of his skateboard and then at the ramps.

"Oh no," Sango groaned, "It's like having another boy!"

I started giggling slightly, Sango looked athletic, but maybe she just didn't like skateboarding. "So where's that mall at?" I asked almost as a joke.

"Do you really shop?" I nodded, "Like for hours?"

"Are you kidding? I lived in LA. I lived five minutes from some of the most commercialized chains in the US. Of course I shop." I exaggerated slightly, but how would she know I only shopped every month or two rather than every day?

"Great, another chick to add to the group." the boys groaned nearly simultaneously. I laughed, can't please 'em all.

~*~*~ INUS POV

I watched her as she jumped of the ramp. Kouga had accepted her into the group, that was a big step. If you couldn't do at least, something on the board, it would take a while for him to get to accept you let alone like you. He accepted Sango because she was dating Miroku. He accepted Kikyou because . . . well, he just did. Though she could do a few little bunny hops at one point.

The other guys didn't really care one way or another if she could board or not, as long as they had someone else to show off too. It was also a nice change to have someone from another state. We were a bit sheltered up here after all. I think I had met one knew person in all my life, and he moved.

"So Kags, you snowboard?" Kouga asked. He really needed to get over his 'boarding' fetish. Skateboard, snowboard, surf(boards) anything with 'board' in it and he did it.

"Yes! I love it! There is a great mountain about three hours away from my old town in Cali. So fun! I learned from this ski instructor guy apparently he won like four metals snowboarding." She stopped herself abruptly as though she thought she had been rambling.

"What kind of tricks can you do?" Kouga was hooked. I watched in slight fascination as Kagome listed a few things. Sometimes, when she didn't know what a particular trick was called, she would use her hands and say 'that thingy'. I don't know why, but it made me laugh.

"You're all right Kags." Kouga declared.

         "Thanks Kouga."

"Hey as long as she shops and she ain't like ice maiden over there." Sango added.

"Excuse me! How many times are you going to rag on me today?" Kikyou wasn't hurt, they always bantered like that, but for some reason I felt she was becoming slightly jealous. Usually Kouga would be all over her and now he was only interested in Kagome. But, Kagome was 'new blood' so to speak. We were all interested.

"As many times as I want." Sango answered plainly.

"Come my dear. Let's go change my wheels." Miroku put his arm around Sango's shoulders and steered her toward his car.

"Yay," Sango was sarcastic, "I get to watch you change wheels."

The jingle of 'Ice Ice baby' filled the momentarily silent air. We all looked around and then realized the noise was coming from Kagomes sweater pocket. Kagome had forgotten, apparently, that she had put the sweater on the ground, as she scrambled to get it.

         "Sorry." She apologized quickly. "Hello?"

We talked about other things while Kagome was on the phone. A few minutes later she came back as though she was never interrupted.

"Your Mom I'm guessing?" I don't know why I asked, it wasn't my business. I was just like that.

"Yeah. Crazy, my cell still works here. I forgot it was even in my pocket."

"Do you have to get home?" I asked, kind of looking for an excuse to leave anyway.

"Nah. Don't worry about it. She just said your Dad was home." I visibly tensed but tried to cover it.

The only person in the group that knew about my Dad was Miroku. And even he didn't know the whole story. He did however, overhear the information.

"It's getting kind of late anyway guys. I'll bring you and Kagome home." he said from his car.

"Dude, it's only like one." Kouga was obviously annoyed.

"Yeah, but if Kags just got here yesterday, you can't expect her to have all her fun in one day can you?" Miroku was trying to lie for me, and I was grateful.

"Whatever." Kouga was upset, but he'd get over it. "So I'll see you guys tomorrow. We'll all come to your place around one or two Yash."

"All right man." we grabbed each others hand and patted each other on the back, as was our usual departure routine.

"Later guys." I waved to everyone and they said good bye.

"Bye! Nice meeting all of you!" Kagome waved to the guys, and Kikyou, as she followed me to Mirokus car. Sango, of course came with us.

Miroku drove us back to the house in record time. I laughed at the thoughts that must be flying through Kagomes head, about how all Mainers are horrible drivers. That, for the most part, was true.

didn't edit so sue me Sticks tongue out
I can make fun of Maine Drivers (I AM ONE!) ^.^ By the way, I am not sure about the terminology of the skateboarders. I asked my friend, but I don't think she was really listening to me haha, so I used some of what I knew and a snowboarder video game I have. *shrug* if I did screw up horribly or you know something better please tell me. I love learning! ^_^
