Chapter 5: Honors English, and just a little bit of Chemistry?
Anubis_himura
~*~ Inus POV ~*~
We pulled into the driveway and I noticed my Dad wasn't outside. Normally he would have been on the porch waiting for me to get home. I reasoned that he was inside, waiting just the same. I said bye to Kagome, and told her I'ld see her tommorrow. She seemed a little confused but I didn't have time to explain, nor did I really want to.
I went into the house, walking through the kitchen door I saw the back of his head. He was sitting in his 'Lazy-boy' and looked as though he were watching TV. I knew better. He was plotting. That sounds paranoid. Maybe he wasn't 'plotting' so much as 'planning'? Either way, I walked into the livingroom prepared to face the consequences of 'sneaking out' or 'being lazy'.
"Inuyasha . . . "
~*~ Kaggies POV ~*~
"Hey Mom. Wow." I realized, as I walked in, that the house was entirely decorated. In just three hours my mother had completely decorated our house, and without me. "It looks nice." I commented, relatively stunned at the transformation. Then I thought back to how my room looked.
"Hello Kagome. Oh, thank you. Did you have a good time?" she was bustling about the kitchen, as usual. I nodded in response.
"Yeah, I had a great time."
"That is lovely. Would you like a cup of tea?"
"No thanks. I think I'm going to go fix up my room and stuff. I'll be in there if you need me." I smiled slightly and walked into my room.
I tossed my sweater on the floor and began unpacking. I always forgot how much stuff I owned until we moved again. It was quite bothersome really.
I unpacked for hours, filling up the oak drawers of my dresser with mountains of clothes, putting my more delicate clothes in the closet. I unpacked my portable CD player and placed it on my bedstand. Eventually I would have to get a desk, but I could do that next weekend when I went shopping for clothes. I also decided that I had to get a job. It seemed Mom would like Maine, and we'ld be here long enough for me to hold down a job longer than a couple of months. I would set to work on that once I was officially a student and I had gotten to know some people better.
The CD ended, bringing me out of my gaze. I realized I was holding a photo album. I've made so many friends since I've moved so much, it's hard to keep track of them without a photo or something to help me. I put the photo album on the single shelf of my closet, up at the top. I also needed to buy a book shelf. Maybe I should buy those necessities instead of clothes?
"Kagome?" I walked to the kitchen table, where my mother was sitting, looking over paperwork.
"Yeah?" I asked.
"We have a meeting at your new school on Tuesday. They want us both to meet with the Vice Principle and the Guidance Conselour. Of course, you know the drill." She smiled with her eyes, her mouth smirking.
"Oh yeah. I got it."
"Just think in two years you'll be out of here and you won't have to put up with my free spirit."
"You're right. I'll be in college in two years, but you don't move us around so much because you have a 'free spirit'." she gave me a puzzled look, "We move because you're running."
"That is enough."
"No, it's not. You're afraid that he will find us-"
"Kagome"
"That he will make true your biggest fear-"
"Kagome"
"That he will tell you that he -"
"KAGOME! YOU ARE GROUNDED!" I stopped and stared at her. She was now standing, her hands firmly gripping the dinning room table. The anger in her voice, did nothing to surpass the sadness in her eyes. I felt horrible for what I had done.
"Mom, I'm sorry. I got carried away. I don't know why I -"
"Enough." she sat back down and closed her eyes for a second, regaining her calm demenor. "Your apology is accept, but until further notice you are still grounded. And I refuse to shop with you for more clothes unless you buy them with your own money."
"Mom, actually I need more practical things. For school. Like a desk, and probably a bookshelf." I knew that she was in a bad mood but I did need these things.
"Fine. I'll buy the desk and bookshelf. Alone. You are grounded until you've had long enough to reflect on the lies you are speaking. Lies will not be told under this roof child."
"Yes mother." I like to think I knew when to pick my battles, or at least when to end them.
"Go to your room." I was already turned around before the sentance left her mouth, and as she released a heavy sigh I closed my bedroom door.
~*~ Inus POV ~*~
I didn't want to wake up. It was early, and I was tired. The rain was pouring down outside, and I knew my friends wouldn't want to go to the skatepark today. That was fine with me, since we'ld been going there every day since Kagome arrived. Kagome arrived two weeks ago today. She was now an official student at KHS and resident of our town. My father had introduced himself, and we were becoming friends. Kouga had his eyes on her. I tried to tell her, but it wasn't really my business. The fact that it was raining however, meant that my friends would want to hang out at someone house. Hopefully not mine. I didn't feel like having my Father come home from work and see four of my friends sitting there.
I really did have to work on my reports anyway. I had already read the five books - what can I say? I'm a dork - so all I had to do was compare the five books to the decline of children life and prosperity due to war in third world countires. Easier said than done. Heck, it wasn't even easier said.
I took the five books off my bookshelf and set them on my desk, then sat down with my favorite red pen and mounds of notebook paper. I'ld have to get to the Library to type it up eventually. My dad didn't want me to have a computer because of the internet. He thinks that I'ld just look at porn all day. He is kind of stupid in the respect that I don't have to have a computer hooked up to the internet.
I rolled my eyes, thinking of my fathers stupidity would not help me to write this paper.
* The five books I read were "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn", "The life of Pi". "The Eye of the World (Book one of the Wheel of Time)". "Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix". and "The Stand." The way these books relate to child longeity and prosperity due to war in third world counties is easy; but, lets take it one book at a time.
"The Eye of the World" is the most direct case. The book focuses on a boy, Randy, no older than twenty four (no younger than sixteen). It deals with the 'light' (good) and the 'dark' (bad). The light and dark signify war, as anyone could tell you.*
A loud crash outside my window interrupted my thought flow. I ignored it, but took the time to read over my essay. I realized I didn't like how it was starting. It wasn't professional, and it sounded more like I was blabbing. I started to crumple up the paper when I heard another crash, only this time I jumped back ten feet.
A tree branch had crashed through my bedroom window and nearly hit me in the head. The wind was blowing the rain into my bedroom and now that I had a twenty foot whole in my wall chances are I couldn't stop the rain. I ran down to the livingroom and grabbed the phone, but the lines were down.
I didn't know what else to do. I was going to call my dad and see if he could figure something out. Now I had no options. I couldn't just sit in my room, watching it fill up with water. And there weren't enough pots in the world to catch all the rain. Then it dawned on me, the Higarashi's. I knew I should be the one making sure they were okay, but a tree went through my house. I couldn't just stand around like an idiot.
I put on my shoes and ran out into the rain. The wind nearly knocked me over and I decided I needed to eat more carbs. I plowed my way through the backyard, and finally knocked on the cottage.
Kagome came to the door, beckoning me in without a word. I graciously accepted and felt horrible for dripping all over the floor.
"I see you unpacked. It looks great in here." I tried starting off with small talk rather than barge in with 'hey a tree just demolished the upstairs of my house. So how is your day going?'.
"What are you thinking coming over here in this weather?" Ms. H stood with her hands on her hips, looking at me scoldingly. "You are going to catch your death. Come on. Kagome, get some of Jordans clothes. I know you have them don't lie to me." Kagome put her head down slightly and scampered off to her room. I was confused but didn't say anything. "You haven't even got a proper coat. You children. Are you wishing for death? Maybe God ought to come and take you all? Would you like that?" she shook her head and then suddenly stopped being an over protective mother and played the part of puzzled tennant. "What are you doing here?"
I laughed slightly, "A tree fell through my bedroom window and took down half my wall in the process. The phone is out and I didn't know what else to do."
"Here Inuyasha." Kagome was holding out a grey sweater and a pair of blue sweatpants. "Jordan was my ski instructer in Aspen. He slept over a few times." My face lit into a smile, "Not like that you pervert!" I outright laughed, momentairly forgetting that my house was destroyed.
"Go change out of those wet clothes. I'll throw them in the dryer." Ms. H announced.
~*~*
"Your dad said that there is extreme flooding, and that no one is allowed to leave." Ms. H poured me another cup of hot chocolate. I didn't actually like hot chocolate in itself, but it did warm me up. "He said he would send someone from the station down just as soon as he could. He is very happy you didn't get hurt." I scoffed, but covered up with a quick motion as though I had burned my tongue.
My dad is the York County Sheriff. Whoop-edi-doo. It just gives him more of a reason to watch every move I make. Since I hang out with the sterotypically stoners, I'm a bad kid too. The only time he took a true interest in my life was when I was moved up a grade in Junior High. Then he talked about me at work, and beamed to all his friends. When I nearly flunked the first semester of High School, he never spoke of me again.
I am in my Junior year now, and I've been working really hard to stay on top of things. I am still a grade ahead of my class, but the friends I've made in my class are great.
"Inuyasha?" Ms. H was looking at me, apparently I'ld looked stupid for a few minutes now. Kagome wasn't in the room anymore.
"Yes? Sorry." I apologized for not listening to her.
"He said not to worry about the room and that you could stay here tonight if he didn't get home in time to put up a storm tarp or the equivelent." I nodded, to show I was listening this time.
"Would you mind if I ran next door to get some things I need to work on?" I asked.
"Okay. But grab some clothes and anything you'll want for the rest of the night. I don't want you to be going out there a hundred times tonight."
"Okay." I didn't have any of my clothes because they were still in the dryer. I took an umbrella from Ms. H and ran back into the cold. I could only hope my things weren't too wet. I would move them all into a corner that was dry, or into my closet. Hopefully that would be good enough.
~*~ Kags POV ~*~
I had moved into my room. To be honest, having Inuyasha in my house, wearing Jordans clothes was weird. I couldn't explain it. Then, that look he got about him, like he was ready to throw something, or worse. I've only seen that look once, and I never wanted to see it again. I decided to go draw. I was currently working on a picture of a dragon with a broken wing. I didn't like how the broken wing was coming out.
I was nearing perfection of the piece and was almost ready to ink it when I heard a timid knock.
"Yeah?" I asked.
"Hey, it's Yash."
"Come on in." I put down the drawing and looked to the door.
My door opened and Inuyasha came in with a back pack and a duffle bag. "Sorry, your mom said I could just leave this stuff in your room. I have to work on my paper and stuff, so I wanted to bring it over. If it bugs you I can just keep it with me."
"Oh, no it's fine." I smiled sweetly, trying to prove that it didn't bother me in the least.
"I love this song." he put his stuff down as he commented.
"Isn't it great?" I didn't really ask a question, I was simply stating the obvious.
"Who does it again?" he asked.
"BoA." I answered, realizing for the first time in twenty minutes what I was listening too.
"Isn't the background music gorgeous. You can almost see the hope beyond the despair." I nodded, not sure what to make of his comment.
"Anyway, do you mind if I hang out in here and work on my paper? Or should I go to the table out in the dinningroom."
"Here is fine." I didn't want him to leave, but I felt awkward with him there.
"Thanks." he took out five books and laid them on the floor, and then took out a giant five subject notebook. He sat down and opened the notebook, pen in hand.
"You can use the desk, if you want." I motioned toward the desk that mom had bought me. It had a small lamp on it, and harbored the burden of my CD player as well.
"No, I am okay."
I looked down at the books had read and realized I had read them all too. I moved to sit across from him on the floor. He gave me a puzzled look, "I felt awakward sitting up there with you down here." I explained, hiding my blush.
"Oh." that was all he said.
I started inking my work as he apparently continued his paper.
"What are you working on?" he asked. There had only been about twenty minutes of silence, and I was glad to have him talking again.
"Oh, I'm just finishing up a dragon I've been working on." I turned the sketchpad around to show him. "It's not much." I quickly explained, "I was just bored."
"That's really good. I like your use of shading. I also like the fact that his right wing is broken. I like how it appears to be paper thin and so fragile, yet the creature itself is large and menicing. It's really well done." I didn't expect him to actually comment, let alone compliment.
"Uh . . . oh . . . thanks." I was blushing deeply and tried to hide that fact.
"What about you?" I asked, changing subjects, "What are you working on?"
"That stupid English paper. Have you read these books?" I nodded.
"Do you want some help?"
"Sure. If you want."
"I'd love to." I smiled, and stood up, "Do you want something to eat or drink? I'm going to grab a coke."
"Sure." he shrugged, smiling though.
"Okay. Be right back."
I came back a few minutes later with a plate of 'Ruffles' potato chips and two Cokes. I set down the plate and handed him a coke. He nodded and we continued our work.
"So, for Harry Potter, how do you think that would directly relate?"
"Well, I think what you have about the inflation rate is okay. But really the structure is weak. I would suggest reworking this whole paragraph to fit better to the previous one, and fix the ending to tie in with ATGIB. Maybe?" I hated sounding like a know-it-all. It was one flaw in myself I truly despised.
"Thanks. That's awesome." he set to work, crossing out and rewriting. I smiled inside, but remained calm outside. It wasn't that big of a deal and I shouldn't be too happy about it anyway.
With the paper written (thirty-two pages approximately nine thousand, four hundred and seventy five words) we moved onto the bed to chat.
I found out that he was quite an artist himself. He didn't have anything to show me except a few doodles he'ld done in the margins of his notebooks; but, he did promise I could see his real artwork later.
I told him about all the places I had lived. He was simply fascinated. He wondered why we had moved here after all the big cities we'ld lived in.
"Truth is, I think Mom wanted a change. We'ld lived in Chicago, New York City, LA, Miami, Detroit. I think mom was just tired of all the shoot-outs and gang bangings."
"Did you ever get gang banged? Wow, that was a dumb question. Sorry." I laughed at the question, and at how shy he was being.
"No. I never got 'gang banged'. Nor shot at, nor mugged, nor raped or kidnapped or anything. Surprisingly the cities aren't much different then here. I mean they are different, but they are the same. I confuse myself. I mean, people are just the same no matter where you go. The city may be there instead of the country, but you will still find people who are nice, and people who are cruel." I shrugged, and decided to stop sounding like an idiot.
"I understand what you mean. I wish I had moved more. Not necessarily fourty states in nine years, but more."
"I would trade anyday." I laid back on the bed, staring up at the top of my canopy.
"Kagome," I didn't hesitate to sit up and look him in the eyes.
"Yeah?"
"What happened to your dad?"
"Heh. And here I thought it was going to be an important question. It's no big deal. We left him, I guess. Don't worry about it." I smiled and waved off the comment.
"What happened to your mom?" it was only right that I should tell him something, and he - in return - tell me something back.
"She died."
"Oh. Sorry. I guess leaving someone is easier than having them die."
"Yeah. Especially when they do it themselves." he looked deeply hurt at the memory.
"Sorry Yash." I didn't know what else to say. I had known this guy for two weeks, and we had been spending a lot of time together, but what does anyone say to something like that?
I decided to use my natural intelligence to switch the mood back into happy. "So, you like Kikyou?" or just my gossip side.
"Who told you that!?"
"Everyone."
"Everyone! You only know ten people!"
"Oh, aren't we Mister Smart ass? Well, I'm not allowed to tell you." I stuck my tongue out at him and he shoved me in the shoulder playfully.
"Don't make me start on you." I joked back, speaking with an accent I had picked up in NY.
We beat on each other, playfully, with no intention of harming. Until we finally collapsed on the bed. I didn't get to think long before I felt the pressure of Inuyasha leave and I heard his footsteps walking around the room.
"Come on, lets do something." he beckoned me toward him.
"What? It's still raining outside." I pointed out the window to show my point.
"I know but, we can do something. How about, boardgames? No. Lets work on my History paper. Well, you don't have to, but I am going to." he sat down and prepared his History information.
I looked at him, shaking my head. I just wanted to be lazy and read or watch movies. How could this kid have so much self-discipline?
"Okay, 'compare and contrast Adolf Hitler, to a celebrity of your choice. Account for why you chose said person, and find true facts about each one. A bibiliography must be present or no credit will be given'." Inuyasha read out loud.
"Wow, that sounds fun actually. I'd do Brittney."
"Why?" he asked, giving me a puzzled look.
"Because, she is Hitlers reincarnation. I just know it." I laughed, "Actually I own three of her CDs."
"What is this world coming to?" he joked back. I threw a pillow at him. "Hey thanks, just what I needed." he sat on the pillow and gave me a smug grin.
"Jerk."

Ta daaaaa end of chapter 5. I like this chapter actually. For some reason, even though it's semi-boring. I liked writing it. Yay. Okay enough out of me. Bye.

Bye.
