Chapter 17: Semester Finals
Anubis_Himura

~*~ Yashie's POV still ~*

We packed up the car, with what few items we had, and waved good bye to Kagome's family. Kagome hugged her brother, and her father, nodding to Kaydee and giving Hayleigh a little hug.

"Bye guys!" She smiled as she opened the car door.

"Don't be a stranger you two. Come visit any time!"

"Thanks dad!" Kagome got in the car. "Bye!" she said, waving as she started the car.

She took off. Her family waved until we were out of sight. "This was good. It was fruitful."

"Yeah it was. I am so glad we did this!" Kagome said, turning down the radio a bit.

"Me too. Thanks." I reached out and put my hand on hers. She looked at my hand and then up at me, smiling ever as cutely as normal.

"Thank you." she sighed, looking back at the road. "Now, we only have forty eight hours to get home. Up to the challenge?"

"The real question is, are you? I can't drive." I smirked at her.

"Yes. Yes I am." she turned onto the main interstate. "Let's go."

~*~ Kag-Chan's view point (48 hours later) ~*~

I drove into the driveway. It was six thirty in the morning. I was exhausted. I yawned loudly as I shut off the car in a hurry. I had to shower and change, then we were off to school. Inuyasha was sleeping, but he needed to get ready too.

"Yash," I said softly, brushing the hair out of his eyes, "Yash?" he stirred slightly. "Yashie hun, time to wake up."

"I'm up Kags." he yawned. "Five more minutes." he turned his head toward the door.

"Yash, we're home. You need to get ready for school." I said, opening my door.

"I'm up." He said, opening his eyes and his door. "Let's go." he said through a yawn.

"Go take a shower and drink some coffee, it will wake you up." I said grabbing my duffle bag. He reached in the back and grabbed his as well, "Need help with that?" I asked.

"Nah. Go shower." he said, walking up toward his house.

"Alright."

I took a record shower and brushed my hair, then I changed into fresh clothes and made sure I had the right days work. I looked in the mirror, happy with the rushed job, and went into the kitchen.

"Morning Kagome." My mother said from her usual spot at the kitchen table.

"Morning Mom!" I said, trying to be chipper. I didn't know if she was going to yell at me, or be happy. I grabbed an apple and looked at the clock. 7:05. "Gotta run." I said, turning to leave. "See you after school."

I went to the car and Inuyasha came out a few seconds later. I smiled to him, he had two cups of coffee. "Thought you might like some." he said handing me a cup.

"You're a god." I said getting in the car.

"Yeah I know." he got in and buckled.

"Well, better get to school."

~*

"You slept with him didn't you?" I nearly spit up my water. I instead choked it down and gasped.

"Sango!" I said in a hushed but strong voice.

"Well, didn't you?" she inquired, her voice lowering slightly.

"I don't see how that is any of your business." I said, taking a bite from my bagel.

"Oh come on. Don't tell me you spent the whole week with him, alone, and didn't sleep with him."

Miroku came in at this point and sat down beside Sango. He didn't seem to be listening to our conversation.

"For your information, we weren't alone the whole time. And, not that it's any of your business, but no, we did not." I said, turning to Miroku and ignoring Sango. "How was your vacation Miroku?" I asked.

"Great. Pretty eventful. Yours?"

"So you didn't do anything?" Sango said.

"What?" Miroku asked, "You and Yash?"

"Thanks Song." I said, rolling my eyes. "Nothing happened." I stressed.

"When?" Kikyou sat down with us and I felt like sinking into the concrete floor.

"Nothing. It's not important."

"What's not?" Kouga now joined the fray.

"The topic!" I felt as though a vein in my head would burst.

"Hey guys, what are you talking about?" Inuyasha sat down next to me and finally the conversation ended.

"Nothing." Sango said hurriedly, waving her hands about in the negative. "So, how was your week Yash? Feeling better?"

"Yeah, a lot better. Thanks."

"Anything . . . fun happen?" she asked, still trying to get the information she wanted.

"It was all pretty fun yeah." Inuyasha said, taking a drink from his Gatorade. Sango gave up.

We all made plans to study for finals together. They were in two weeks and all of our classes were starting to give review sessions. I need massive help in Math and Spanish. For Math I could probably ask Yash, for Spanish I would have to see Senorita. I left fourth block in a state of complete exhaustion. I just wanted to go home, and sleep. I didn't even care about finals at this point. I saw Sango coming out of Design and walked over to her.

"Hey," I smiled.

"Hey Kagome. What's up?" we began walking to the parking lot.

"Not much." I said.

"So, something exciting must have happened." Sango said, zipping her coat.

"Well . . . " I smiled to myself, it was silly to smile about it, but it made me happy.

"Well?" Sango said, her eyes growing wide.

"We said 'I love you'." I watched Sango's expression. At first she seemed annoyed that I wasted her time, then she smiled.

"Aww. That's kind of cute. Blech." I laughed and hit her playfully on the arm.

"Shut up. I thought it was cute."

"Yeah yeah." we laughed to Miroku's Durango and waited for the boys.

It was cold out. It had to be at least minus ten. We saw the boys coming up and we waved.

"It's fricken cold out here." Inuyasha said, readjusting his backpack.

"Yeah it is." I agreed. "Let me get that for you." I said, taking the bag from him.

"You don't have to Kags. I got it." I shrugged and gave him back the bag.

"See you guys tomorrow." I said starting toward his car.

"Bye Kags!" Sango said, getting into Miroku's car. "See ya Yash."

"Bye Kagome." Miroku said. "Bye Yash."

"Bye guys."

We got into his car and I turned up the heat, waiting for the car to defrost a bit before we left. I looked over at Inuyasha, he looked upset.

"What's wrong?" I asked, turning down the radio.

"Why do you do that?" he asked, looking up at me.

"What do you mean?"

"Nothing. I think it's defrosted."

I looked out the window and nodded, shifting into gear. Inuyasha didn't say much on the way home. I didn't know what to think.

~*~
"Hey Mom." I said as she walked in. "How was work?"

"Work." she said putting down her bag.

"Mom," I started. "I know you are probably really angry with me, and I'm sorry I just left like that. But, I had to. I know that sounds stupid but I needed to do this. I wanted to get Yash out of the house, and I wanted to see my dad and Souta. I'm sorry Mom. Will you forgive me?"

"Kagome. I am sorry that you felt you couldn't spend a week here." I saw her begin to cry.

"No! Mom, that's not it. I just -" she held her hand up, silencing me.

"I understand you needed to see your father, and brother. It was wrong of me to keep you away all these years. Forgive me. However, you were very wrong to leave in the middle of the night like that. I was scared sick. But you called, and even if your father made you, it was smart of you. I was not nearly as angry after. Thank you. Tai thinks it was all your fault, so Inuyasha will not be in trouble. I'll have to ground you. At least until midterms are over."

"I understand. I'm sorry. Thank you." I hugged her close. "I love you Mom."

"I love you Kagome." she hugged me back. "How is Kaydee?"

"You know her?" I pulled away. "Of course you do. That was stupid. She's good. They have a daughter. Hayleigh. She's cute. Kaydee's not such a bad person." I felt bad saying it, but Kaydee really wasn't bad.

"That's good to hear." she smiled at me. "Maybe we'll invite them for fourth of July hmm?"

"Really? That would be cool." she pat me on the shoulder.

"Sure. You should go double check your homework. I'll start dinner."

"'Kay."

~*~

Semester Finals were upon us. I told Yash what my mom said, and he was happy. He was also happy he wasn't in trouble with his dad. I had talked him into asking Sesshomaru up for July as well. We were in his room now, studying for midterms. I was having massive trouble in Math and he was trying to be patient but I could tell he was getting annoyed. He stood up to get us some drinks and I stood up with him.

"I can do that for you." I said.

"You really don't have to Kags. In case you hadn't noticed, I'm just fine." his voice was a little . . . mean. It seemed like he thought I was making fun of him or something.

"Sorry. I was just trying to be nice." I said.

"Well, you don't have to do everything for me Kagome." I saw his temper rising.

"I like to. I mean, I like to help you. Is that a crime?" I put my hands on my hips looking at him angrily.

"No, but God Kagome. I don't need your help. I am fine on my own. Especially when you try and help me in front of our friends. Now they probably think I'm a pussy. Just lay off it."

"I don't see the bad in me wanting to help you out. And I highly doubt our friends think you're a pussy."

"Is that why you wanted to be with me? So you could help me out all the time and look like a kind person, while making me feel like a useless dope?"

"What the fuck are you talking about?"

"Admit it, you're only with me so that you can take care of me and make me feel like an ass."

"You are messed up Yash. That's not it as all and you know it." I was getting sad now. I wasn't angry anymore. "I just thought you wanted help. And, I didn't know I was somehow hurting you by wanting to be nice." I was trying not to cry, I wouldn't give him the satisfaction.

"Well I don't need your fucking help."

I refused to blink because I knew I would start crying. Instead I picked up my notebook and jacket and walked out. I slammed his door as well as the front door. He was an asshole. It was official.

~*~

"I'm sorry Sango, I really shouldn't be crying to you. It's not your problem. I just don't get it." I wiped my eyes. Finally I had stopped crying, but I felt worse for dragging Sango into it.

"Kags, don't worry. I'm sure Yash was just angry about something, and he took it out on you. I'm not saying it's right, but maybe you should just give him time to cool down." she was trying to play the advocate. "But, personally, I think that was pretty asinine. I'd be pissed if Miroku ever yelled at me."

"Miroku doesn't yell at you? That's good."

"Nope. Never raised his voice to me. It worries me actually. He never fights. You think he's afraid of me?" Sango asked, her tone was slightly kidding and I smiled.

"Anybody'ld be afraid of your right hook." we laughed.

"Thanks for listening to me Sango. I feel better now. I'll see ya tomorrow kay?"

"Aight. Bye Hun."

I hung up the phone and looked over to Inuyasha's house. His light was on.

~*

The next morning I called Miroku, he said he would give me a ride in to school. If Yash could take care of himself, he could obviously drive himself to school. I knew it was kind of mean; but I was pissed. I ate some cereal while I waited for Miroku.

I heard Miroku's car pull up and I started to leave.

"Kagome? Why aren't you riding in with Yash? Is the car broken?" my mother asked.

"No. I'm just mad at him. See ya later."

I smiled to Sango and Miroku, jumping in the back. "Thanks Miroku." I said as I put on my seat belt.

"No probs Kags. Are you sure Yash will be all right though?" he asked, looking over to Inuyasha's house.

"Oh yeah." I waved it off.

"Okay."

~*~ Inu's Outlook ~*~

My alarm didn't go off. I woke up at six fifty, which meant I wasn't getting a shower. I changed for school and packed my bag, which broke at the seam, so I had to shuffle through my closet to find my old backpack. I repacked my stuff and hurried downstairs. My coffee maker didn't go on, and I didn't have time to make a cup now. I put on my coat and went out the door. I threw my stuff in my car and went over to Kagome's. She didn't come in to wake me up so I knew she was probably mad at me.

I knocked on the door. "Hello Inuyasha." Ms. Higarashi said. "Can I help you?"

"Yeah, is Kags ready?" I asked, trying to see if Kagome was in the living room.

"Oh, I thought you knew, she left already. She went to school with Miroku I think."

It was the worst morning, of my life. I smiled pleasantly to Ms. H. "Oh, that's right. Thanks." I waved good bye and got into my car.

I looked at the shifter, and shook my head. Sure, I was feeling a lot better, but I still didn't want to drive. I deserved it though. I had been an ass to Kagome. That's probably why she did this anyway. I shook my head and started the car.

I ended up getting to school just as the bell rang. My leg hurt like hell and I was pissed beyond belief. I parked and 'ran' to class. It was going to be one of those days.

Kagome was talking to Kouga when I walked in to English. I sat down next to Alex and waited for class to start. I looked at Kagome. I was trying to get her to say something to me, but she never looked at me. Not once all class. When she wasn't paying attention to Ms. Carson, she was talking to Kouga. Something about that pissed me off more.

Lunch wasn't any better than the rest of my day.

" . . . I have to work the night before my Math midterm. Can you believe that? I'm gonna die." Kagome said as I sat down next to her. She didn't seem to notice I was there. Or she didn't care.

"Kags, you've been studying for that midterm for like all year." Sango laughed. "You'll be fine." conversation ceased for a moment. "My hardest midterm is probably going to be Chem. with Mr. Ben. I hate that class."

"Yeah, that's a killer." Miroku agreed.

"Yeah, you had him last year though, he's completely bonkers this year." Sango said.

"And he wasn't last year? News to me." Miroku joked back.

"Ha. Ha." Sango rolled her eyes.

"Yeah, I'd say that Mr. Ben's bio exam is going to be my worst." Kouga said.

"See Kags? Be thankful you lucked out with Brick."

"Well yeah, but Brick is still going to be tough." Kikyou chimed in.

"No doubt. But at least he teaches you." Sango said.

"True."

"What's gonna be your hardest Yash?" Miroku asked, bringing me out of my silence.

"Oh, um, I dunno." I thought for a second. They were all going to be pretty hard. "Either Chem. or Latin."

"Latin sucks." Kikyou agreed.

"Yeah, I took Spanish because it's easier." Sango commented.

"I took French. That sucks." Kouga said.

"Yeah, but at least you can speak it." Kagome said, "I can barely string a sentence together in Spanish."

"Kags, all I can say is 'poly vu Frances'." Kagome laughed.

"Tengo el gato grande en los pantelones." she said, laughing. Miroku laughed as well, while the rest of us kind of looked at each other.

"What does that mean?" Kouga asked.

"Never mind." Kagome smiled.

"Time to go back to class kids!" Mr. Whit said.

"Want to meet by Ms. Reasons?" Sango asked Kagome as we started to walk to our destinations.

"Yeah sure." she agreed. "See Ya Miroku. Sango." she turned to Kikyou and Kouga. "Bye Kik, Kouga."

"Later Kags."

I mentally frowned. She was pissed.

~*~

I didn't know what to write next. The report was worth half of our semester grade and I was completely blocked. I put down my pen and looked over to Kagome's house. I couldn't tell if she was home. I knew she was still grounded but she could have walked to the bridge. I felt like an ass for what I had said. I knew better than that. She was just a nice girl, who wanted to help.

"I shouldn't have yelled at her." I said out loud putting my head on the desk.

I must have fallen asleep because I woke up to the sound of a truck pulling into the yard. I groaned and looked at my clock. The digital numbers read Nine thirty. I turned off my light and crawled into bed; hoping he wouldn't bother with me tonight.

~*~

Midterms, or Semester Finals, were torture, as everyone had suspected. On Friday, at eleven fifteen when we had all finished, we met by the underpass. It was very cold on this day. The wind-chill had dropped the temperature to, at most, thirty degrees. Sango and Miroku came out of building 'C' and walked over to me.

"God! I hate Ms. Quire. We didn't learn any of the junk that was on the test!" she said once she reached hearing distance.

"Sorry about that." I said semi-sympathetically. Truth be told, I didn't really care about much. I didn't care if I failed my midterms, or passed them. I just had to figure out a way to get Kagome to talk to me.

"Yash, what's up with you and Kags?" Miroku asked. He said it hurriedly, as though expecting someone to jump out from behind a bush and beat him up. I suspected he didn't want to be nosey and was watching out for Kagome.

"Long story." I nodded to Sango, "Ask Sango." Sango gave me a look. "Well I suspect she's told you by now."

"I'll tell you later Miroku." she said. I laughed slightly. "Where's Kikyou?" she asked, changing subjects. "Didn't she have Latin with you?"

"Yeah. She was finishing up." I explained. "Kouga had?"

"History I think. And Kags was in Mythology so she should be along soon." Sango summed up.

"Cool. What's the plan?" I asked, still not sure what it was we were all going to do to celebrate the end of midterms.

"I think we're going to the movies. Right?" Sango looked to Miroku.

"That would be correct, as far as I know. I just kind of follow you guys."

"Well, everyone knows Yash is the leader." Kikyou had joined us and stood next to me.

"Shut up," I said jokingly. "No I'm not."

"It's all about me." Kouga said. I hadn't noticed he had walked over from the other building.

"Yeah, that's it." I rolled my eyes.

"Where's Kags?" he asked.

"We've been through this, she had Mythology. She'll be along in a minute." Sango said.

"Is it a movie we're going to?" Kouga asked.

"Yes." Sango was starting to get aggravated.

"Who's riding with who?"

"Well, I can fit six or seven, not sure, in my Durango." Miroku said.

"I can fit five in my car, but someone else is gonna have to drive." I said.

"My car only holds two comfortably. Technically I can take four." Kouga said.

"I don't have a car." Kikyou and Sango said in unison.

"Then should we split up and take the three cars. That way we don't have to come back here?" Miroku suggested. "The only other option is taking my car and we all squeeze in."

"Let's just take 'em all." Sango said.

"Hey guys!" Kagome smiled as she ran over to us. "Why didn't we meet in the lobby? You guys must be frozen by now." she said. "So, what's the plan than?"

"We're taking all three cars, since we don't think it's wise to have to drive all the way back here." Sango took on the role of explaining everything, again. "We're going to the movies. That's about all we've got planned."

"Perfect. So, who's going with who?"

"Well, whoever goes in my car has to be able to drive a stick. I can't drive right now." I said. I had a very good feeling Miroku and Sango would go together. There was no way Kouga would let someone else drive his car, and I was pretty sure Kikyou couldn't drive at all, let alone a standard. I was hoping Kagome would have to be my ride buddy.

"Well, since Kouga and I are driving our own cars, it's going to be up to the girls to figure that out."

"I don't have a license." Kikyou said.

"I couldn't drive a standard to save my life." Sango shrugged.

"Look's like I'm driving." I could tell that behind Kagome's plastered on smile, she was still really pissed.

"Right. I bet Sango will want to ride with Miroku. Kikyou, you're with me. Let's go. We're going up to Smitty's. See ya there." Kouga started for the parking lot; everyone else followed in quick succession.

"Kagome," I said. She turned and looked at me with the most pissed off expression and I tossed her my keys. "Heads up." she caught them and smiled meekly.

We got into the car and almost simultaneously it was on and the radio was blared. 'Beverly Hills' by Weezer was blaring and I instinctively turned it down.

"Kagome, I think we need to talk." I said.

"Listen Yash. You might have been pissed about something that day, you might be mad at me, I don't really give a shit. I'm just trying to hang out with our friends, and celebrate; A) Getting off “groundation”, and B) the end of midterms. Okay? So lets not pretend to be friendly." she turned the radio back up and drove off, following Miroku's Durango.

I didn't really know what to say to her. I was quite taken aback by her comment, and it took nearly all of my energy just to close my mouth so I didn't look like a goon. Of course, by the time I came up with an adequate way to respond, I had lost all nerve. I opened my mouth a few times to say something, and just as soon as I had opened it, closed it again. I wasn't sure if I deserved such harsh words, or if I should be really pissed off.

The song that had been dubbed 'our song' came on the radio and it seemed Kagome was about to change it. Her hand reached for the dial a few times, but it came quickly back the shifter and rested uneasily. I wasn't sure if she knew I was looking at her, or if she was completely in her own world.

We came up to the stop sign by the airport just as the most important verse of the song came on. ~*Never caught my breath every second I'm without you I'm a mess, ever know each other, trust these words are stones, why cuts aren't healing, learning how to love, I'm melting~*

Kagome changed the channel, it flicked to a rather obnoxious rap song and she left it. I wasn't fond of rap, but I didn't say anything. I was already on her bad side. Besides, she knew I didn't like rap, she was just trying to piss me off. I wouldn't give her the satisfaction. I had established, as we were driving along the blueberry plains, that I could be just as big an asshole as she was being a bitch. If she didn't want to talk about the real issue, that was her problem. I knew eventually my anger would ebb away and I would be trying harder to get her to talk to me again; but for now, I was content on being pissed off.

We pulled into the Smitty's parking lot and I got out all too happily. The radio echoed in the nearly empty parking lot.

"Wow Kags, got the radio up a little loud do ya?" Sango asked, making a motion as though testing her ears for sound.

"Sorry Song what?" Kagome asked, turning off the car.

"Nothing." Sango smiled. "So, how was the ride up?" she asked.

"Wonderful." Kagome said. Anyone within hearing distance could feeling the sarcasm radiating from her words.

"Well," Sango looked of a change of subject. "All accounted for? Let's go then." Sango started walking into the building. "Right. What are we seeing?" she asked.

"I dunno. I thought you guys did." Kouga said.

"I don't know." Miroku put-in.

"I just follow you guys." Kikyou admitted.

"How about we see what's playing around this time. At worst we can hang out for 'x' amount of time and go to bull moose or something." Kagome said. Being the only sensible solution, we all conjured inside.

"Hmm," we looked through the listings. "Not much for now. There's something at four thirty." Kagome said looking at her cell phone clock. "We can hang out for, well almost an hour. What do you think? Want to see, House of Wax?"

"Sure." the group murmured in agreement.

"Great." Kagome went up to the clerk. "Excuse me," she said sweetly, "Hi. Could we buy tickets for a four thirty showing and then step out and come back at the appropriate time?" she asked.

"Umm," the girl twiddled her hair between her middle and index finger. "I guess." she said before she blew a bubble with her gum. "But I doubt it'll sell out."

"Better safe than sorry." Kagome said, turning her smile into a look of disbelief as she turned back to us. "Okay guys, you want to all pay separately, or just give one person the money and whatever?"

"That's easiest." Kouga said, "Here's my seven bucks." he handed Kagome a ten.

"'Kay, so I owe you three."

"I have a ten too." Kikyou handed Kagome the money.

"'Kay."

"I have a twenty." Miroku noted, handing Kagome the money.

"Well, here, take this ten for now, then I'll owe you three as well." she said, still trying to count out all the amounts.

Sango handed Kagome exact change and she seemed happy about that. I, being the dick that I am, instead of giving her the five and two ones I had on me, handed her a fifty. She glared at me. Quite angrily I might add. I smiled sweetly. She had seen me looking at my five and ones. Plus I had a ten and a couple of twenties. She bought the tickets and sorted out the money issue. We then all left the theater and went over to Bull Moose Music. I wandered over to a section of the store by myself.

I was in a sour mood. I didn't want Kagome to be angry at me anymore. I wanted us to be back in each others arms, not at each other's throats. That sounded completely cheesy, but it was how I felt. I kept stealing glimpses of her. She seemed thoroughly agitated. Maybe she knew she had been a bitch and would soon come to apologize? Highly doubtful. If I knew Kagome at all, she was too stubborn. She would, probably, forgive me eventually, but it would take a good amount of 'cool down' time. Which wasn't altogether a bad thing.

After leaving the store, having only purchased two items between the six of us (Kouga bought a '50 Cent' CD, while Miroku had bought a 'Fall Out Boy' CD), we looked at our watches.

"Right, so we have twenty minutes." Kagome said with a slight sigh. "What do you wanna do?" she asked.

"I don't care." Sango said shrugging.

"Let's go over to Fashion. I want to get a new purse." Kikyou suggested.

"All right." Kagome agreed.

"Or not." Kouga said.

"Then don't." Sango said, walking with Kikyou and Kagome.

"Come on guys, lets go some where else." Miroku and I shrugged.

Kouga walked to his car and threw on his new CD, sitting in the parking lot with it blaring. Miroku and I were talking to each a few cars away.

"Dude, Kagome is pissed at you." he said.

"Ya think?" I said sarcastically. "I yelled at her, a little bit, the other day." I muttered.

"Yeah, Sango told me on the way up here." he said.

"I knew she would." I felt my temper rising. It seemed as though every angry thought I had ever had in my life, was bubbling slowly below the surface and was about at boiling point now.

"Then, when we were driving up here, I tried to apologize and get her to talk to me again; and she says 'there's no point in pretending to be friendly'. Can you believe that? I was pissed. Well, I was shocked at first, now I'm pissed." I clenched my fists unwillingly, when I realized my temper was near breaking I breathed deeply and loosened up slightly.

"Come on guys! We should go if we want to order food!" Sango said as she ran up to us, grabbing onto Miroku's arm.

"Hold on, I have to put this in Kouga's car." Kikyou said, tossing a bag of fresh purchases in said vehicle.

"Let's go then." Kagome said once Kikyou was done. Kouga locked his car and we were off.

I tried to walk beside Kagome, so that I could sit next to her, but I couldn't walk that fast with my crutches. I only still used them, because randomly my knees would give out. It was no such luck, I couldn't catch up to her. I think she planned it that way.

Once we were in the theater however, she had sat at a strategic place, and - thank God for my friends - they left a spot open across the table from her. (This particular movie theater had tables so that you could enjoy a meal and watch the movie). I sat across from her and smiled. She rolled her eyes and looked down at her menu. I began flipping through mine as well.

"Hi. I'm Tam, I'll be your waitress." The waitress said. "What can I get for you?" she asked.

"Ladies first." I smiled at Kagome.

"Oh, umm, Sango you go."

"'Kay I'll have -" I wasn't really listening at this point. Once we had all ordered I sat back and adjusted my car style chair. The only thing I didn't like about this movie theater, was that they left the lights slightly dimmed, and not off like a normal theater. Then again, I wouldn't want to watch waitresses delivering food in the complete dark.

"Okay." The waitress came back just as previews were coming on. "Chicken," she handed to Kikyou, "Philly Cheese," to Kouga, "Fish" to Miroku, "Chicken Caesar Wrap" to Sango, "Chicken strips," to Kagome, "and chicken for you as well," she smiled at me, looking as though she were trying to catch my eye. "That's on me." she winked and disappeared.

I was stunned at the comment, I didn't even have time to say 'thanks'. I had thought her voice was low, but apparently not low enough. Kagome was looking at me heatedly, almost as though she could kill me with heat vision or something. I shrugged to her and began eating. She turned her chair to face forward rather than the table, and she didn't look back.

"Well, that was jolly good fun!" Sango said, speaking in her best British accent, as "My Chemical Romance" came on during the end credits.

"It was." I agreed, nodding. A murmur of agreement came from the rest of us.

"Are we doing anything else? Maybe bowling or something is open." Kagome suggested.

"Yeah, I think it is." Sango said, sounding excited. "Oh, but I think they have Glow Bowl, and that doesn't open till nine. We have like three hours."

"Right." Kagome said, looking around the room as though expecting an idea to pop out of no where.

"It's rather cold, but, maybe we could go skating at the pond or something." Miroku suggested.

"What about Yash though?" Kikyou asked.

"Oh, don't worry about it!" I said hurriedly. "We can go if everyone else wants to."

"Sure. If you don't mind Yash." Sango said timidly, almost as though I would lash out at her for daring to say such things.

"Yeah, it's cool."

"Kay!" Everyone seemed to agree. We went to the cars and prepared to go skating.

Overall, I could think of a hundred things I would rather being doing with my time. This was purely a reason for me to get Kagome to talk to me. At the 'rink', dubbed only as such from the kids who used it, we went out onto the ice. None of us had proper skates, so we were pretty much walking with mixed grace. I glided over to Kagome, keeping my crutches at the end of the pond, and took a hold of her hands, pretending I had started to fall.

"Sorry about that." I muttered, not releasing her hands.

"Well, yeah." she tried to turn around and leave but I wouldn't let her.

"Kagome - we need to resolve this." I said, forcing her to turn and look at me.

"Why?" she asked, her eyes heating as much as they had at the theater. "So, in a few days when I try to help you with something you can yell at me, and make me feel like shit? No thanks."

"Kagome," I started, "I didn't mean to. I mean - I shouldn't have - It was stupid." for some reason, though I felt extreme anger, I couldn't be mad. As I stood there, holding her hands, I wanted nothing more than to stay like that. I hated this feeling of utter desperation; yet, I loved it.

"Well -" I had thought she was 'cracking'. Ready to forgive me. Until . . .

"Hi!" A chipper voice said from my right. I looked over and saw, whom I thought was, Tam from the movie theater.

"Umm, hi?" I said back.

"It's Tam." she smiled, walking cautiously over to me. "I got off of work a few minutes before your show ended." she said, her smile still bright. "It's weird seeing you here."

"Uh, yeah." Kagome had released my hands somewhere during Tam's speech.

"Well," Kagome said, her gaze lighting up and I was worried the pond would melt. "I'm going over to talk to . . . " she looked over and as I followed her gaze I noticed Miroku and Sango quite busy with actions of their own, and Kouga was gliding along with Kikyou (apparently quite happy), "Somebody else!"

"Kagome!" I said, trying to stop her. It didn't work.

"Oh!" Tam put her hands up to her mouth. "Is that your girlfriend?" she asked, apparently horrified.

"I don't know!" I said, feeling my temper rise again. "I mean, yes. She is. But she's wicked mad at me."

"Oh! I'm so sorry! I didn't know you were together, otherwise I never would have been so blunt. I'm sorry." Tam clasped her hands together in front of her, as though praying.

"Don't worry about it." I said apathetically. I walked over to the end of the pond and sat on the bench.

I put my head in my hands and sighed loudly. I felt a presence next to me, but I didn't look up.

"Don't worry." I heard Tam's voice, "She'll forgive you."

"How can you be so sure?" I asked, not looking up from the ground.

"Because you're a total cutie." she said. "And, you seem like a nice kid."

I released a heavy breath again, "It's over." I muttered.

"Well no wonder she's mad at you!" Tam hit my arm.

"Ow." I said looking up at her.

"You give up to easily Mister!" she stood up and pulled me up. "Now, get over there and get her back, before that creep does!" she pointed to where Kagome was 'skating' around. There was a definite creep chasing her.

"Thanks Tam." I said, hugging her.

"No probs!" she smiled, "Say do you have a single brother about your age?" she called.

"Sorry, he's married!" I smiled back waving.

"Damn."

I went as fast as I could to Kagome, the sleaze-ball was making a move on her. He had put his hand around her shoulder, apparently going for the slow cheek kiss, hoping she'd turn and he could . . . well. Anyway. I had to get to her before he did. I pushed him out of the way, taking Kagome in my arms.

"Yash, what are you doing?" she asked.

"Shh." I said as I placed my lips to hers. The world spun around us and nothing else existed. It was just the two of us, forever in this moment.

Or . . . so I had hoped.

In actuality as I tried to push the guy away he clobbered me in the nose and I was sent flying back at least twenty feet. My whole body shook from the force and I could feel blood trickling down my chin. I ignored it though, because the pain now inching up my spine was significantly worse, and I was trying not to pass out.

"YASH!" I heard her scream. She sounded panicky, "YOU IDIOT! HOW COULD YOU HIT HIM? CAN'T YOU SEE HE'S ON CRUTCHES! YOU MORON! YOU COULD HAVE KILLED HIM! THAT IS MY BOYFRIEND, YOU INSENSITIVE JERK!" Kagome smacked the guy, or at least I think she did. I wasn't looking, but I definitely heard the sound of skin on skin.

"Yash!" I tried to blink away the stars before my eyes. It wasn't working. I used to think it was a lie that if you get punched there were stars behind your eyes. But nope. They definitely appear. "Yash? Can you hear me?" I saw Kagome's face hovering over me. I couldn't really answer. My head was killing me and swarming with all kinds of mixed up thoughts and feelings. I nodded slightly though. "Yash, I'm not trying to help you or anything, but, can you get up on your own?" I tried to shake my head but it didn't obey me as easily.

"Hey Punk!" I heard the creep say. "You should control your bitch!" red flashed before me, pure blind hatred. I supported my weight on my back and sprang onto my feet. Apparently even Kagome was scared at this point. I was in so much pain I didn't care what happened.

"You . . . " I started slowly, "Will not . . . " I wiped the blood from my chin, "Say . . . that . . . about . . . KAGOME!" Every inch of me begged to find the nearest bed and sleep forever. But a deeper part of my emotion screamed to kill this man for daring to defile Kagome's name.

"Why?" the man asked, faking interest. "Oh don't tell me. You're in wuv." he made me sick. "You think this fucking slut is worth anything? Moron."

"I warned you." I punched him, with more strength than I had ever used before. I knocked him clear across the pond, and he skidded to the very edge. I was pretty sure at least his nose was broken.

"You okay?" Kagome asked, turning to me after watching the man crash into a snow bank.

"Yeah. Are you? He didn't hit you or anything while I was -"

"No. I'm fine." she was smiling at me. "That was really brave. And sweet. And, well kind of stupid I mean he was like twenty times bigger than you but -"

"You could've stopped with brave and sweet." I said, smiling at her.

"It was." she held my face in her hands. "I'd kiss you, but you're all bloody." she giggled slightly.

"Love you too." I said picking her up and swinging around. I heard her squeak a little bit.

"You really shouldn't do that!" she said. "You'll hurt yourself even more!"

"Eh, screw it!" I laughed, spinning about a few more times before putting her down.

"Yash! That was so cool! I mean you just bounced up and leveled him!" Miroku said in awe.

"Thanks." I scratched the back of my head, messing up my hair in the process.

"Yash, that was the sweetest thing in the world." Sango bubbled, holding Miroku's arm.

"Yeah, wicked cool." Kouga agreed.

"Totally." Kikyou said.

"Thanks guys. Really, it wasn't anything." I waved it off, "But could somebody get me my crutches? I think I'm going to pass out."
