“Kagome? Are you feeling well?” Inuyasha asked with concern. They were walking to the bone eaters well so they could go see her family one last time before she would give birth. Her mother kept asking her to stay and have the pups in her time with all the fancy doctors, but Kagome kindly refused explaining to her mother that there would be no way they could hide the small differences of a human and hanyou child from a doctor.
“Yes Inuyasha, I am fine. Just a little back pain.” She said with a wince on her face. Absently she began to rub her back. After 5 months since the fight between Sesshoumaru and Inuyasha she was now heavy with pups. She was even larger than Sango was during her last month before she gave birth to a tiny little boy they called Kohaku after her deceased brother. Inuyasha took her hand and led her to sit underneath the God tree where they had first met. (Has it been that long? Have things changed so much?) It wasn’t that she wasn’t happy with having the pups, although there were still worries, she was just apprehensive about giving birth. She watched when Sango was screaming in pain, cursing Miroku to the seven hells numerous times. Telling him that she was going to use her Hiraikotsu on the poor monk’s head after this was over. She still couldn’t help but laugh when finally little Kohaku was born and Sango finally released Miroku’s hand. Miroku’s hand was black and blue from the pressure his wife had given it. Kagome was surprised she hadn’t broken any bones. Hearing Inuyasha speak brought her from her memories.
“Has your back been hurting all day Kagome? I seen you rubbing it a few times earlier. I just want to make sure that your labor hasn’t started early. Remember your mother said that twins sometimes come ahead of time, and I want to make sure we are in the village so we can get Kaede’s and Sango’s assistance.” He began rubbing the small of her back in circles with one hand, while resting the other on her pregnant stomach. He was always so concerned and caring anymore. He wouldn’t let her lift anything, and every night when they were sleeping he had a protective arm around her stomach as if trying to keep anything bad away from it. He even stopped making love to her when she was into her third month. Afraid that he could hurt the pups, even though she explained that was nonsense.
“I’m fine Inuyasha. It has been hurting on and off since I woke up, but its not a big deal. It is probably just the twins kicking me wrong. You know how active they are.” She smiled as she thought of when they had first kicked her. She was about two ½ months along, and she was getting ready to sleep when it happened. Inuyasha had jumped the same time when she did. He was so scared, his eyes wide with wonder. Even his purple markings looked pale from fright. Since the whole fight involving the Shikon no Tama, Inuyasha was now a full youkai. His markings were still there, but nothing else had changed on him, still the markings added a little more to his personality and charisma. Sometimes, she couldn’t stop looking at them, they just made her body shiver with anticipation when she would make love with him, and all she saw was his amber eyes and purple streaks in the candlelight.
“Okay, are you sure you want to go to your time? Why don’t we wait one more day just in case?” Inuyasha asked sweetly.
“Honestly Inuyasha, I am fi…” Kagome groaned in pain. Out of no where a contraction hit, and hit hard.
“Kagome? Kagome are you okay? Do we need to return to the village?” Inuyasha was suddenly concerned. He saw the way his mate’s face changed mid-sentence and felt her stomach harden suddenly with a contraction.
“Yes. We should go back now. I think I was wrong. I think our pups will be here tonight.” Kagome cried out again when another contraction hit hard. Her water broke. (Oh no, not good, too early, this hurts so much!) She was carefully picked up into Inuyasha’s arms as he ran with full speed to the village.
“Kaede, Sango! Quick!” Inuyasha screamed as he ran into Kaede’s hut. The women were expecting Kagome to have her pups any time, so they had everything prepared just in case. Gently he laid Kagome onto the futon in the hut as Kaede and Sango made sure everything was set out.
“Inuyasha, she will be okay, her labor is just starting, it should be a few hours until the pups are born. Why don’t you help and get us some more water?” Kaede said quietly to the concerned youkai. It has been her knowledge that men worry more than the women at the time of birth, so it was best to keep them occupied until the time came for the woman to push.
“Kaede, Sango, this hurts so much! Is there anything at all for pain?” Kagome swore she wouldn’t need anything, but after the third, (or was it fourth?) contraction hit, it became too much.
“Yes, Kagome, we have an herbal drink for you. Here, it might taste bad but it will help take some of the pain away. Just relax and lay back down and try to rest. This will be a long night for you.” Sango said brushing back her friend’s hair. She knew how painful it was giving birth to Kohaku, but she couldn’t imagine what it would be like for twins. That thought made her grimace, she would never want twins, it was bad enough she almost broke her husband’s hand, and threatened him so harshly, if it would have been twins, he may not have lived to see them. Suddenly Kagome screamed.
“This hurts so much! Where is Inuyasha? Sango find him please. He left me.” Kagome was going hysterical.
“No Kagome, he didn’t leave you, he went to get fresh water for Kaede. I know it hurts, but the medicine should be taking effect soon. You have to relax. Trust me.” Sango tried to sooth her friend.
Inuyasha busted into the hut, splashing water everywhere. “What’s wrong? Kagome are you okay? I am here love. Please, tell me why did you scream? I was so worried.”
Shaking her head, Sango, walked away to let the terrified youkai next to his mate. (This is going to be some night.) She groaned at her thoughts.
Little did they know, what kind of night it was going to be as the hours went by.

In the last few months, Sesshoumaru had scouts checking on Kagome’s pregnancy. All reports said she would be due anytime now, and have overheard she may be having twins. Sesshoumaru knew he had lost Kagome to his brother and over time had come to accept it, giving up his need for revenge. He still cared for her though, and just wanted her to be happy. The problem was, he wanted his pup, or pups. He wanted his heir, and he wanted to have something to remind him of Kagome and what they shared, no matter how brief, someone he could love one day. Although Rin was extremely upset Kagome had left, Sesshoumaru was showing her more attention everyday and they were happy. Still, it was not the same as it would be with his own blood. Sighing to himself, he knew it was time to see things with his own eyes, watch and wait until his pup or pups were born into this world. Although, there was still no guarantee they were his, he just couldn’t shake the feeling that he would be the father.
Taking off into the night, he arrived quickly to the village, and all he heard was Kagome’s screaming. Apparently he got here just in time for the birth of his pups.

“Push Kagome, push!” Sango yelled to her friend. It had been 6 hours since she went into labor, and finally it was time for her to push. Her dear friend was exhausted, and Inuyasha was so pale, but stuck by her side whispering sweet nothings into her ear, supporting her as much as he could.
“I can’t! Its too hard! Aahhhh!!” Kagome tried her damnedest to push, she could feel the pressure building and then suddenly release. She heard a small cry come from the first pup she gave birth to.
Inuyasha looked up to see the noise. He felt so drained after watching Kagome in pain, and he knew she had one more to go, but Kaede said it could take minutes to hours again. Reaching out to hold his new pup, he asked Sango what it was.
“It’s a boy Kagome, Inuyasha.” Sango sang happily, she washed the pup’s face, and suddenly froze. It was then Inuyasha grabbed the child from Sango and watched his happy face drop.
“This… the pup.” Was all he could say as he felt his heart break. He could smell Sesshoumaru’s blood in this child, and from the markings, knew without a doubt his brother had fathered these pups. It felt like he was falling into a dark hole, and couldn’t get out.
“Inuyasha? Inuyasha what’s wrong? Is there something wrong with the pup? Inuyasha please you are scaring me.” Kagome pleaded. All she wanted to do was hold her first child, but then she saw how her mate’s face became sad. (Please, please don’t tell me the pup is hurt!)
Inuyasha snapped out of his stupor long enough to shake his head and give Kagome her child. The pup was crying and hungry, but he was so beautiful, Kagome thought. He had small clawed hands, and white ears just like Inuyasha’s even small puffs of silver hair. When Kagome looked into her new pup’s face, she saw why Inuyasha looked heartbroken. There in the middle of her child’s forehead was a small green moon. This was without a doubt Sesshoumaru’s child. She knew she was going to cry, and felt the tears falling from her face as she was urged by Sango to feed the pup before she went into labor again from his twin. She loved this child no less, but still felt some loss over the fact it was not Inuyasha’s. “Kurotai. That is his name.” She said sadly.
“Kagome, I know. I know you are sad, but please you must be strong right now. You still have another one to help into this world.” Inuyasha said calmly when he realized Kagome started crying harder. Even if these pups were not his, he would love Kagome. He knew after all that this was a possibility, but he just felt in his heart that these pups were his. It was almost like he knew it! Yet it was not to be.
Suddenly, the flap on the hut opened, and there was Sesshoumaru standing there with a smile on his face. Before Inuyasha could react and tell him to leave Kagome screamed a heart wrenching scream, while Sango quickly grabbed Kurotai from her loosened grasp. At first Inuyasha thought it was from seeing Sesshoumaru there, but realized the second pup was on its way.

Aww, aren’t I just evil? Muwahahhaha. Only one more chapter left to go I think, maybe an epilogue. There is still an interesting turn of events coming, so don’t assume you know everything there is to know yet. Trust me when I say the next chapter will be thought almost impossible, but hey, this is a fictional story, and in my mind, its going to be the way I want it to be. Plus I am sure some of you will be tearful at the end. Something tragic happens to someone.
