Summary: During middle school Kagome befriends InuYasha, a boy that no girl likes and nobody wants to be his friend. Then, he leaves. Now, in High School InuYasha is back. Can their biggest mistake become the best thing that happened to InuYasha and Kagome?

Chapter 2: Meeting of the Heart

Kagome couldn't believe it; she had to hallucinating or something. InuYasha left, but he was right there, in front of her. Kagome pulled away to get a better look, she looked around to find people still staring. InuYasha looked down at her and he couldn't believe it

'Kagome, that's definitely her. I would never forget that scent' InuYasha though as he looked deep within the girl's eyes; they were both in utter confusion. A long silence surrounded them, the people still staring, and the two teens looking deep within each other

"Inu...yash...a?" Kagome asked. InuYasha snapped out of any doubt that that wasn't Kagome, her voice was enough prove

InuYasha nodded and Kagome launched herself at him. He stumbled back before catching himself. Her arms locked tightly around his neck and he buried his nose in to her neck. He inhaled her drugging scent deeply, closing his eyes. He lifted her off her feet, slowly walking away from the crowd. He felt her tears soak the front of his shirt. Small sobs wracked her tiny frame. He walked around the school to the small yard behind it. He sat on the ground with Kagome still clinging to him.

 

“Kagome,” He whispered gently, nuzzling her cheek. Her puffy eyes looked up at him before he smiled at her. “Hey, `Gome.”

 

Kagome smiled brightly before leaning up and planting a loud kiss on his cheek. “I haven't seen you in forever!”

 

He chuckled. “Hardly forever, wench”

 

In a small way, his voice was rougher than before. “How was Italy?”

 

He sighed. “Don't you ask that every time I talk to you?”

 

She shrugged. “Yeah, but now I get to ask in person.” He rolled his eyes. "How did they treat you?"

"Worse,” He growled. “Yeah, worse than here.”

 

“I'm sorry,”

 

“You have nothing to be sorry for,” He sighed. “How long do we have till school stars?”

 

“Half an hour.” She leaned against his now muscular chest and heard the beat of his heart.

 

“So, how's everything with you?”

"Nothing much, Miroku is a new friend we have, umm... yeah, I think that's it"

"Oh, we just came back yesterday; horrible flight and now I hate planes"

"InuYasha?"

"What?"

"I missed you...a lot"

"I missed you to; you were the only friend I really had"

The bell rang and they went back. They made it with a few minutes to spare, Sango, Rin, and Miroku were waiting for Kagome. They saw her and someone else running towards them

"Here they come" stated Miroku

"Yeah, but who's the guy" asked Rin

InuYasha and Kagome finally stopped taking deep breaths, all of them took out their schedules to see what they had

"Kagome where did you go?" asked Sango

"InuYasha.. and I went for a walk" Kagome said between breaths. At that name Sango and Rin froze

"Did you just say InuYasha?" Rin asked a little shaky

"Yeah" answered Kagome. InuYasha stood there next to her staring at the girl's that had treated him so badly. Although Sango never really said much, she did always laugh at the cruelness. She blushed.

"InuYasha Tsuroka?” the same one from middle school" Sango continued

"Yes, InuYasha, he's back" Kagome said happily. Miroku stepped over to InuYasha

"Hello, I'm Miroku" said Miroku extending his hand out, InuYasha grabbed it

"InuYasha"

"You know Rin and Sango?" asked Miroku

"Yeah," He said harsher than he intended to. Miroku shrugged it off. Miroku gave him a friendly smile before starting to tell him his first class.

InuYasha looked at Miroku, who didn't seem to care that he was hanyou. He shifted uncomfortably. Maybe Miroku was sick or something…maybe a little blind.

"Miroku, don't you notice anything different about me?”

”You're hanyou,” Miroku shook his head. “Does it matter? Kagome adores you and has told me much about you, so I know you're a good person. That's all that matters.”

InuYasha was surprised at his response. Kagome looked at her watch

"Shit, we're gonna be late!" She started to run towards the class, Algebra

Kagome and Miroku made right on time, they took their seats as the class started

Kagome was listening up until she head whispering between the two biggest bitches in the school. Kikyo and Kagura

"Do you know who's back?" Kikyo asked Kagura

"Who?"

"InuYasha Tsuroka"

"Are you serious, we're gonna have fun" Kikyo made a snickering sound.

"No, have you seen him. He's hot as hell"

"Really?" Kikyo asked a bit surprised. Kagome frowned. " InuYasha and hot aren't supposed to be used in the same sentence.”

 

Kagura rolled her brilliant magenta eyes. “He's changed, Kikyo. Seriously, I saw him. He's as hot as they come.”

Kikyo smiled. “Well then, I suppose he can be honored by being my boyfriend”

"But, do you think he'll like you?"

"Of course he will, trust me Kagura he won't be able to resist me"

"How will you do it?"

"Be nice, look pretty, and always around him, then he's mine. Plus, I heard Sango and him become friends"

"Perfect Kikyo"

"Thanks"

Kagome almost broke the pencil she was holding. When the bell rung, she jumped in her seat. Miroku sauntered over to her and glanced at her blank notebook.

"Kagome, you didn't take any notes?"

"Whoops, I was trying to hear the conversation"

"Between who?''

"Kikyo and Kagura"

"Did you hear?"

"Kind of"

"Oh, you could copy my notes if you want"

"Sure, but what's the catch lecher?"

"Kagome, I'm insulted. How could you think that of one of your best friends"

"It's always true"

"No catch, here" Miroku said handing her the notebook. She nodded, took it and they left for their next class

It was a good day for the first day of High School. Kagome got to see her best friend, she had almost all classes with him. Yeah, life was good today. The bell rang for lunch and Kagome hurried to the cafeteria, she was hungry. When she got there she got her lunch and sat down with her friends.

"Hey Kagome" said Sango

"Hi, have any homework?" asked Kagome

"Nope" Sango, Rin, and Miroku answered in unison. Kagome smiled "Me neither"

"Hey, where's InuYasha?" Kagome asked looking around

"I saw him at his locker up until.." Miroku trailed off

"Until what?" Kagome said

"Until Kikyo came up to him"

Kagome's head snapped up. “I heard them during class, talking about him.” She started to get up but Sango held her.

 

“I'll go,” She stormed out. “Kikyo won't get my friends this time…much less Kagome's best friend.”

 

Miroku frowned. “Does Sango like InuYasha?”

 

Rin giggled. “Of course not”

"No, during elementary and middle school Kikyo tried to make Sango's life impossible. Sango liked someone, Kikyo took them away. Sango wanted to be friends with someone, Kikyo turned them against her. Like InuYasha, she wants to be friends with him and now Kikyo wants him" Kagome sighed. “I should really go to get him.

 

“Let Sango deal with it.” Rin said softly.

"Yeah and InuYasha has been through that already only Kikyo never tried anything on him. But, now that he's hot she wants him" Rin said. Kagome smirked

"You think he's hot" Kagome stated more than asked

"What? No! I mean…yes! Oh, Kagome, like you don't”

 

Kagome laughed.

Sango was walking down the hallway looking for her prey. She was a slayer and she could kick Kikyo's ass if she wanted to. She finally heard voices and followed them, they looked around the corner to find InuYasha and Kikyo

"So, InuYasha is that a yes?" asked Kikyo. She had her finger making little circles on InuYasha's chest. Sango didn't want another friends to be taken away form her. Kagome and Rin were the only ones that Kikyo couldn't get to and Miroku, well she hadn't tried anything yet. She wanted InuYasha to be her friend and they had decided that they were friends during a class they had together, Kikyo must have overheard them.

"Kikyo!" shouted Sango. Kikyo looked at her and so did InuYasha

"InuYasha get away from her please, you don't know who she is" Sango said. InuYasha looked at Kikyo, but he didn't back away

"Who I am? I just wanted InuYasha to be my boyfriend, what's so wrong about that!" shouted Kikyo

"The only reason you want him is because you heard that we became friends!" Sango shot back

"InuYasha that's not true, I like you and I always did" Kikyo said

"That's not true! Please, your my friend and I don't want another friend to be taken away from me"

"Oh please you're pathetic Sango,” Kikyo rolled her eyes. “You made fun of him.”

 

“Yeah, but Kagome is his best friend,” Sango frowned. “Don't try to act innocent.”

 

Kikyo looked at Sango before leaning up and planting a kiss on InuYasha's lips. She scowled and leaned back. “I'll see you later, InuYasha.”

 

She strolled away, but turned to give Sango a glare that promised revenge. InuYasha looked at Sango and she sighed.

 

“I'm sorry,” Sango slumped her shoulders. “She's right, I did make fun of you. I'm sorry InuYasha. I wish I could take it all back”

 

He looked at her before walking towards her. He grabbed her arm gently, leading her back in to the cafeteria. “Feh”

 

Sango smiled softly. Maybe that `Feh' meant he forgave her.

"Look there they come" Rin said. InuYasha and Sango walked in. Sango had a huge smile on her face

"I'm guessing Kikyo got it" Kagome said

"No, close though. Next time she tries something I'll kick her ass"

"What about you, what did she want?" Kagome asked InuYasha. He sat next to her and shrugged.

 

“She said she wanted me as her boyfriend,” He frowned. “Fucking kissed me to.”

 

Kagome smiled and flicked his ear with her fingers.

They ate their lunches and then went back to classes.

“I think you had a little to much time in Italy,” Kagome rolled on to her stomach. She held her chin on her hands and looked at the hanyou that was lying on her floor.

 

“You think so?” He glanced at her before crawled over to her. “Maybe…It was a bit less active than here.”

 

“I thought Italy was supposed to be active”

 

“Hardly. I think that's only Rome,” InuYasha sat on the edge of her bed.

 

“Will you stay with me tonight?” She moved towards him. He smiled before nodding.

 

“Only if your mother lets me,”

 

“Of course she will, dog-boy.”

 

He watched as she settled under the blankets. He left her room to change and when he returned, she was waiting for him. He blinked before he grinned. He crawled up the length of her, hearing her heart pound loudly. Once he was leaning over her, he had a small water spray can behind his back.

 

“I-InuYasha?”

 

“Hmm?”

 

She squeaked another broken version of his name and he leaned in closer. His touch touched hers. Before Kagome could say anything, he sprayed her face with the water. She jerked up, pushing him away. He chuckled.

 

“You jerk!”

 

“Wench, don't yell so loud”

She smacked him. “I thought…I-I thought…” She blushed before snorting. “Good night”

 

Angry tears formed in her eyes. `I thought he was going to kiss me…big, fat jerk.' She blinked. Why did the fact that he didn't kiss her bother her more then his dirty trick? She frowned.

 

`Why am I angry that he didn't kiss me?' Kagome sighed. InuYasha dropped the spray bottle and leaned over her.

 

“Kagome, what's wrong?” He frowned. “Wench, don't tell me that you're angry because I sprayed you?”

 

She muffled a `no' and InuYasha rolled his eyes. “Then why are angry?”

 

She sat up. “It's stupid”

 

InuYasha blinked. `Did she want me to kiss her?'

 

`Don't kid yourself. Kagome wouldn't kiss a hanyou like you.'

 

He winced and twitched his ears. Kagome smiled up at him. “Let's go to bed. I'm tired.”

 

He nodded, letting her drag him down with her. She turned off her lamp. His arms encircled her waist, pulling her towards him. He could hear her heart beat in sync with his. Her breath started to even out and she curled against him. He looked down on her, smiling gently.

 

Slowly, he dipped his head lower. He gently brushed his lips over hers and Kagome's eyes fluttered open. She closed her eyes again, thinking she was dreaming. Her last though was how sweet InuYasha's kiss was.

It wasn't awkward at all. Kagome thought InuYasha had kissed her in her dreams. They walked to his house first so he could change his clothes and then walked to school.

 

“You think we should go out for lunch today?” Kagome asked from her place on InuYasha's back.

 

“Whatever,” He snorted. Halfway to school, InuYasha decided to take via rooftops Kagome didn't object, but now he wasn't even going in the direction of the school. She rolled her eyes. He jumped over several buildings before landing on the roof of someone's house.

 

“InuYasha, school is that way,” Kagome pointed behind her. InuYasha snorted.

 

“I know that,” He jumped away and made a turn around the park. Kagome saw the park flash around her and she giggled. He jumped up in to the clouds.

 

“Don't drop me,” She whispered. He sighed.

 

“Never,”

 

After another minute he landed gracefully on the school's roof. Kagome fixed her hair before she looked down. “We're gonna have to jump anyway, so why bother with fixing your hair?”

 

She grinned. He grabbed her again and flipped over the building. Kagome shrieked and tightened her grip on his neck. He landed in between Sango and Miroku.

 

“Where'd you two come from?” Sango asked. Kagome was pale and InuYasha was smirking.

 

“You jerk, you could've killed us!”

 

“Fat chance, wench” He set the girl on her feet and she stumbled.

 

“Dog-boy flipped over the school's roof!” She yelled angrily. “I felt the world go upside down! I almost fell!”

 

InuYasha snorted. “I had you and I can assure you, you wouldn't have fallen.”

 

 

Kikyo snorted and rounded the corner of the school. InuYasha seemed to be extra fond of Kagome Higurashi. Kagome continued to yell at InuYasha. Sango had managed to distract InuYasha yesterday, but no longer. Maybe Sango won that round, but that was far from the final round. Now, she just needed to get in touch with her two favorite people. She would make Sango pay and Kagome---InuYasha's so called, `best friend'----would go down with Sango as well.
