Waking in the middle of the night, Kagome looked over to see Inuyasha sleeping sitting up near the entry of the cave. Kagome was freezing inside of her thick sleeping bag, so she knew Inuyasha was cold. The fire had gone completely out; only orange embers remained hardly radiating any heat or light.
Kagome stood slowly ignoring the bitter cold that nipped at her body through her clothes. She crept over to Inuyasha and gently shook his shoulder to rouse him.
His dark human eyes snapped open and he had her on the ground beneath him so suddenly that Kagome didn't have a chance to breathe. His hand rested on the hilt of his sword as though Kagome posed a threat.
It was obvious that he didn't know it was Kagome but thought her something dangerous and threatening. Kagome didn't dare move for fear that any movement could get her killed. She wasn't afraid of Inuyasha, she knew he didn't realize that it was her, and knew he wouldn't do something like this had he known she was only trying to wake him.
Awareness slid into his eyes as he realized it was Kagome and blinked.
“Kagome?”
She felt so frightened that all she could do was nod quickly.
Inuyasha got up and helped Kagome off the floor of the cave. He couldn't believe his reaction to her trying to wake him. It's been such a long time since he's slept around her and the others. He's grown accustomed to having to be on constant alert for his enemies.
“I'm sorry, Kagome. Did I hurt you?” The concern and contrite in his voice was obvious.
Kagome gave a nervous laugh and replied, “No, I'm just a bit shaken up.”
Inuyasha studied her and scratched his chin with one finger. “Why'd you wake me, Kagome? Is anything wrong?”
“No,” Kagome whispered wanting to forget what just happened. “I just thought you were cold and would like to keep warm with me in my sleeping bag.”
Inuyasha's eyes widened in surprise. He looked nervous as he searched for an excuse. “No, I'm not cold, Kagome. Really. Just go back to sleep, okay?”
Kagome met her gaze to his earnestly. “Well, than maybe the reason really is because I'm cold and would prefer some body heat.”
Once again his eyes widened, and he gulped loudly.
Kagome laughed, “Don't worry, Inuyasha. I promise not to ravish you while you sleep.”
`Besides,' she added silently to herself, `I'd rather be the one being ravished.' Kagome blushed at the wanton course in which she allowed her thoughts to proceed.
She felt embarrassed. Ashamed? No, never ashamed when it came to her thoughts and feelings towards Inuyasha.
With out waiting for him to respond, Kagome grabbed Inuyasha's hand and pulled him toward the sleeping bag. Kagome laid down and held the bag open for Inuyasha. He silently slid down next to her. Kagome zipped up the bag, forcing both of their bodies to press scandalously close.
Kagome turned her back towards Inuyasha so that their bodies were in an enthralling position. Kagome felt Inuyasha's warm breath on the back of her neck and had warm, electric shivers flow though her body. Inuyasha's arm slowly came around and hugged her snuggly under-neath her breasts.
His touch felt wonderful, soothing, and enticingly tempting all at the same time. Kagome knew after all these years she didn't want to abstain from being close to him.
Kagome fell asleep to the rhythm of his breathing and the warmth of his body pressed against her, thinking of how much she truly loved and needed him.
Inuyasha on the other hand had a hard time falling asleep. He did not go unaffected by her closeness, nor her ass pressed against his groin. He was growing hard just by the warmth of her body; he couldn't believe how easily she tempted him. He had been reluctant to lay with her for exact this reason.
After the kiss she gave him earlier he had a hard enough time falling asleep the first time. Something as innocent as a peck on the lips had made his body throb. Lying with her like this, in such an intimate position only made his desire worse.
He ignored the urge to run his hand up and down her body and her sinuous curves. He wanted to press her against him more firmly and lick the back of her neck just to hear her moan. Inuyasha longed to take her here and now, taking all she had to give, but surrendering just as much to her.
But he didn't want to alarm her with such demeanor, so he tried to ignore his body and heart's longing and closed his eyes.
**********
Kagome woke with a silver hair Inuyasha next to her. She smiled and sighed. She had felt him leave in the middle of the night and thought he wouldn't come back, but only moments later she felt him slide back into the sleeping bag next to her.
When she snuggle up against him she had not noticed that it was dawn, nor that his hair was silver and he was back to being a half demon. Now she was resting her head on his shoulder with his arm around her, holding her close.
She knew he must not wanted to disturb her sleep during his transformation. And Kagome thought it sweet that he had been so considerate. She had never known Inuyasha to sleep so fitfully. Long ago he would hardly sleep at night, especially in his human form.
Had he been as comfortable as she had been through the night? Kagome had never slept so well. But she also never slept with the man she loved at her side holding her close while she slept.
It had felt more than right. But deep down Kagome knew she longed for more . . . So much more.
***********
Kagome crept though the small forest to find a hot springs, she took the small yellow towel that she had packed. Kagome found a hot springs not far from the cave. She hadn't waken Inuyasha, knowing it wouldn't hurt if he aught a while longer of some much needed sleep. Kagome recalled a time when Inuyasha had come to her era to bring her back with him only to be delayed by her studying for one of her many tests in middle school.
Inuyasha had waited for her as he sat on her bed. He had fallen asleep and Kagome tiptoed over to him for a closer look at his sleeping figure only to realize how pleasant he looked while sleeping.
Bringing her thoughts back to the present, Kagome undressed, leaving her clothes at the side of the springs and stepped into the soothingly hot water. Kagome relaxed, leaning her back against a rock formation. Closing her eyes she let her thoughts again drift back to a silver haired guy with tawny eyes.
***********
“Ahhh!” Inuyasha bolted up from Kagome's sleeping bag as soon as he heard her terrified scream. While unsheathing his tetsiuga he wondered where she would have gone to. He ran with his arms out at his sides and his body was crouched a bit low for more speed.
Surely no one could have come into the cave and took her, he would have smelled anyone's sent, demon or human. But as he drew nearer to where her scream had resided from he smelled a demon. And he knew exactly who the asshole was.
***********
Kagome's scream died when she recognized the handsome face with the turquoise eyes. “Koga?” Kagome questioned as she fretfully reached for her towel to cover her naked-ness. She tried to ignore Koga's bright eyes assessing her now half naked body from head to toe. Oh ya, he had just seen everything. How embarrassing! Kagome blushed uneasily.
Before she could ask any questions, Koga walked calmly to her. He smiled widely. “Kagome, my love, you came back to me.” Koga grabbed her hand breaking her hold on the towel. It fell to the ground.
Kagome was about to shriek from embarrassment and pick up her towel when Inuyasha's unfathomable, angry voice cut through the air. “Get your hands off of her, you bastard.” Inuyasha ocher eyes were filled with ascending aggression.
“Inuyasha. I thought I smelled mutt.”
Before anything else was said, Inuyasha turned his golden gaze to Kagome's wet naked body. She blushed fiercely as he walked to her, picked up her towel and covered her with it. Kagome sighed. It wasn't the first time he had seen her naked by accident. Would it be the last? Brazenly she hoped not.
She also hoped that next time wouldn't be an accident.
“Get away from her, mutt. Now that she's back she'll be coming with me.” Kagome was about to protest, but Inuyasha moved in front of he protectively.
“I'd like to see you try to get through me first, you mangy wolf.”
“No problem,” Koga said, advancing towards Inuyasha.
“Stop!” Kagome shrieked. They ignored her. There was only one solution to keep them from tearing each other apart. “SIT!”
Inuyasha hit the ground face first with a bang, his face pressed hard into the dirt. His groan was muffled by soil.
Koga turned to Kagome. “Thank you for trying to protect me, my sweet Kagome. But there's no need. I could have kicked that mutt's ass, no problem at all.” Kagome couldn't find a nice way to say she wasn't exactly doing that. But Inuyasha stood, the spell finally wearing off, and pushed Koga away from Kagome.
“If you ever so much as speak to her or touch her again, I swear I'll rip your throat out!”
Koga smirked, perceptibly ignoring Inuyasha, and spoke to Kagome. “Don't worry, my lovely Kagome, we'll meet again, I promise.” He was gone in a flash, but not running nearly as fast for having lost the shards in his legs to Naraku years before.
Inuyasha turned towards Kagome, his whole body seething in rage. But he spoke no mean words to her, only grumbled, “Let's go,” and walked with her back to the cave. He told Kagome he'd be back so she could put her clothes on. Left alone, and feeling guilty for what she wasn't sure, Kagome began to dress.
***********
Inuyasha found Kagome dressed in jeans and a red tank top. She hoped she looked good for him. She had pulled her hair into a pony tail to look clean and perhaps prettier, but Inuyasha hadn't seen it that way as he mumbled, “I'd prefer your hair down and flowing.” Normally she would have told any other guy to shove it. But this wasn't just any guy. This was Inuyasha. Her Inuyasha.
She quickly pulled the rubber band from her hair as he passed her to go into the cave.
`Damn she looks beautiful and tempting,' Inuyasha thought. Her full breasts were straining against the front of that stupid shirt of hers. She made him want to pull her into the cave and undress her as she had been earlier. God her body was magnificent. And to think that scabby wolf caught even a glimpse of her beautiful form. He was saturated in jealousy.
Why would Kagome want to protect that stupid bastard? Did she have feelings for—?
“Inuyasha?” Her soft voice cut through his meandering thoughts.
“What?” he answered more crudely than he intended.
“Um . . . What are you doing?”
“What does it look like? I'm packing your stuff. You're going home, Kagome.”
Kagome gasped. Inuyasha stalked out of the cave. Kagome followed. “Don't I have any say in this?”
He walked on not facing her. “No.”
“Inuyasha!”
He turned so abruptly that she nearly ran into the hard wall of his chest. “Look, that disgusting wolf will be back wanting to take you with him, and I'm not going to let that happen. Now let's go.”
Kagome was angry, but still guiltily glad at his jealousy. But she was still going to stand her ground. She hadn't been near enough o him in six years, she wasn't about to leave him now just because of his spout of jealousy that was pointless.
“Inuyasha, I'm staying.”
He turned slowly, menacingly with her bag still clutched tightly in his hand.
“You heard me, I'm not going anywhere and you can't make me.”
“Oh yes I can.” Inuyasha was near her in two giant steps. He leaned down and threw her over his shoulder like a sack of rice. Kagome kicked her feet while he held her behind the knees with one arm and held her bag in the other hand.
“Inuyasha, put me down!” Kagome yelled in a squeak.
“Just be still,” he commanded.
He only walked a few paces before she made up here mind that she had only one choice to get him to stop. So . . .
“Sit boy! Oof.” Kagome's air rushed out of her as she hit the ground just as hard as Inuyasha. `Ouch,' she thought, `no wonder he hates it when I do that.'
She got up first, Inuyasha followed.
“Damn it, Kagome, what the hell did you do that for?”
“Why do you think? You can't make me go Inuyasha. I can handle Koga.”
“How? By going with him?”
“No, stupid! By turning him down. I don't have my own opinions, you know.”
Inuyasha grew somber. “Yeah? Well what's your opinion of Koga?”
Kagome answered honestly. “He's a great guy,” Inuyasha scoffed and rolled his eyes. Kagome continued. “But, he's not my type.”
“Type of what?” Inuyasha asked absentmindedly.
“Type of guy. Someone who I'd want as my lover.” Her open words shocked them both, but Kagome was no longer a meek young girl and Inuyasha had defiantly matured also. Kagome broke the unsure and heavy silence.
“Look, Inuyasha, I just got here yesterday. I don't want to go so soon. I wanted . . . I wanted to be with you again. It's been such a long time.”
Inuyasha looked away, silently pleased with the information. Damn it all, he had missed her. He didn't want her to go so soon. He'd prefer her to stay forever . . .
“Inuyasha?”
Kagome had thought he looked so striking when thoughtful. But than his face had turned serious as though he was thinking something heavy . . . She wished she could just dive into his mind to know all of his thoughts and feelings. But would she be able to handle them?
Kagome wasn't so sure. “Inuyasha?” Kagome repeated before she would get lost in her heart clenching thoughts again. “Can't we just hang out and forget what just happened, and forget the fact that I'll have to leave eventually?”
His golden gaze locked with hers. He was quiet for a moment as if analyzing the situation, than finally: “Sure, Kagome, let's just forget.” And with that they walked back towards the cave, Inuyasha still carrying her black bag.
They walked side by side not talking nor touching, only the sounds of nature filing their tranquil silence. Birds whistled contentedly in trees overhead, a light flower scented wind rustled the grass and leaves. The sun was warm and all around them it cast a calming morning light. Kagome felt at peace in so many ways, she knew there was no other place she'd rather be then there . . . there with Inuyasha.
