A/N: in this chapter there is a bit of lemon. But not full lemon. Sorry, just want to keep you in suspense! ;}

Upon returning back to the cave, Inuyasha senses picked up the scent of demon. But not just one, hundreds of them! He and Kagome turned as they heard a rumble in the sky. Hundreds of demons few towards them. Inuyasha unsheathed his tetsuiga immediately using the wind scar on the demons.

Only half of them were killed in the progress. Inuyasha yelled for Kagome to run. She didn't want to leave Inuyasha but he gave her a stern look that left no chance for protests.

Kagome turned and began running as fast as she could. She heard the roar of a single demon behind her. The demon knew she had the jewel on her. While dressing Kagome had a black pouch that held the jewel and she pinned it to her bra.

She had hoped to have some peace and time alone with Inuyasha before anyone—or thing—came in search for the Shikon jewel. She thought wrong.

Feeling the scaly demons hot breathe on her back, she picked up her pace hoping Inuyasha would save her. He always had, right? Right.

There was a cliff near by and Kagome knew it was her only chance of escaping the horrible demon behind her. Reaching the edge Kagome leaped arms wide at her sides. She fell fast passed a flowing waterfall and into the frigid water.

She went down trying to find which way was up.

Everything seemed so dark. The heavy waterfall was now crashing down on her keeping her underwater. She was cold and scared, unable to get away from the pounding water. She wondered if Inuyasha would save her this time, or if she's going to die.

Kagome thought of her family: Mom, Grandpa, Sota . . . Inuyasha . . . Everything went black.

***********

Her head ached, her throat and lungs hurt and she seemed to have trouble breathing. Was she alive? Surely after death would be so painful, wasn't heaven supposed to be . . . Well, heavenly?

Did that mean she was . . . alive? It was hard but Kagome managed to open her eyes. Slowly at first, but still surely. Everything was indistinct at first, all Kagome saw was pink and green blurs.

Non-hurriedly the shapes came into focus, pink blossoms and green leaves formed. She was lying on her back, she knew, staring up at the trees. What . . .? How . . .? Knowing answers wouldn't come, she slowly turned her head and seen Inuyasha sitting by the river, his back to her. He was slouching, his head was down. Nothing had ever looked more beautiful and glorious as he did in that moment . . . She was alive and her Inuyasha had saved her.

Carefully Kagome raised her hand as though to touch him, but he was too far. “Inu . . . yasha?”

He turned quickly, his eyes lit up with surprise and joy. Only then did Kagome see the tears shimmering in his eyes. He had been crying? And for her no less? Inuyasha grabbed her hand gently in his rough, callused one and moved to sit closer to her.

“Kagome?” His voice was thick with raw emotion. “Are you really . . . okay?”

Kagome managed a weak smile. “I'm fine, thanks to you,” she rasped. “Just a little tired . . .” Her voice faded as she once again slipped into darkness.

Inuyasha calling out her name went unheard by her.

***********

Kagome's body was burning up, but she was racked with shivers. After realizing she was still breathing and truly alive, Inuyasha carried her to the middle of the forest and into a small but isolated clearing. He laid her sleeping bag on the soft moss and put Kagome's limp body inside of it. He undressed her completely, getting her out of her wet clothes. He ignored the stirring of his body at the sight of her glorious naked form and covered her, zipping in the sleeping bag.

He hid the pouch that held the jewel underground beneath a giant root under a tree. He knew it wouldn't hold demons at bay forever, but he hoped long enough so Kagome could heal.

What the hell had she been thinking, jumping like that? He knew she probably felt she had no choice. Inuyasha was mainly mad at himself for not reaching her in time to save her before she jumped.

After killing the remaining demons he followed her scent, it had disappeared by the water, and he knew that could only mean one thing. He had been scared shitless when he wasn't able to find her. And when he did she had been blue and not breathing. He had pulled her out of the water and hit her on the back causing her to spit out the water she took in.

She finally breathed but didn't wake up. In despair, Inuyasha had sat by the river and cried like a damn blubbering baby. But he was so damn scared of losing her. He had would have wanted to die if he had lost her. All hope was nearly gone until the moment she had softly said his name, bring heaven back to his dark, lonely world again.

But when she passed out once more his whole world came crashing down with more desolation than before. He wasn't going to let her die. She was going to live, damn it! And he would see to it by doing everything he possibly could. He only left Kagome for a moment to get water to fill her plastic bottle she had in her bag. He had heard Kaede mention how humans need lots of water when sick.

He made Kagome drink a little, holding her head up gently. She didn't wake and she shivered more. Not sure of what else he could do, Inuyasha built a small fire and took of his clothes. He laid next to her naked body, pressing her against his own. He swallowed heard, hating that his body was reacting when Kagome was lying there so helpless. Ignoring how right her exposed body felt against his, he wrapped his arms around her in an attempt to top her chills.

***********

Kagome opened her eyes squinting until everything came into focus. She looked around her as she remained lying on her back. Trees surrounded her, sun light speckled through the leaves splaying on the ground like yellow orbs that danced when a light wind would rustle the trees branches. Moss covered rocks and most of the dirt ground making a soft dark green carpet underneath her sleeping bag.

Kagome stretched her arms over her head, longing for a drink of water since her throat and mouth had seemed so parched. What happened to her?

She vaguely remembers being chased by a demon and plunging into the freezing water that was reluctant to release her. Kagome also hazily remembers Inuyasha holding her hand by the side of the river, but after that she remembers nothing but a solid warmth that held her and had recently let her go during her sleep.

Suddenly Kagome realized that she was alone, only the sound of soft chirping from birds and the distant sound of a waterfall met her ears. She looked around frantically, only the sight of tree met her gaze. Where was Inuyasha?

Too weak to sit up just yet, Kagome searched the tree tops not knowing what else to do. Could Inuyasha have left her? Did he see her as too much of a burden and didn't want to be near her anymore?

But she knew none of that was true when he spotted a red kimono on a tree branch. His silver hair showed itself next to her gaze, as it glistened magnificently. Kagome could only stare, memorized at how wonderful he looked. So at peace, yet he seemed to be pondering something weighty as he stared off into the distance.

She wanted to call his name, but she knew she could barely talk let alone yell.

As though feeling her eyes on him, he looked down and met his golden gaze to her dark one. He jumped from the branch, his long, beautiful hair flowing behind him like angel wings.

He landed perfectly on his feet, slightly crouched, but never stumbling. He stood to his full height and walked to her slowly as though he thought she wasn't real. Kagome gave him a wobbly smile as he sat down next to her.

“How are you feeling?” he asked seriously, carefully.

“Okay,” Kagome whispered. “How . . . how long?” she managed.

Inuyasha seemed to know what she meant. “A fort night.”

Kagome gasped. “Two weeks?” she nearly rasped out.

Inuyasha shushed her, afraid she'd loose what little voice she had left. He held the water bottle up to her lips and helped her drink.

Kagome drank greedily, realizing she was thirstier than she thought. After Inuyasha took away the water she laid there trying to gather her strength. She couldn't believe she had been asleep for two weeks! And Inuyasha had stayed with her the whole time?

She looked up at her knight in shining armor adoringly. Inuyasha crinkled up his handsome face quizzically and asked, “What?”

Kagome laughed softly and pulled in all her strength she possessed to sit up. She still rested on her elbows, but at least most of her body was up.

“Inuyasha, I wanted to thank you for . . .”

Kagome's voice trailed off when she realized Inuyasha wasn't staring at her face but much lower. At her chest! Kagome looked down and would have shrieked if she could at the sight of her naked breast on full display. She quickly pulled the sleeping bag back up.

Inuyasha must have undressed her after he pulled her out of the cold water. She blushed uncontrollably.

At age fifteen she would have screamed `pervert' and yelled `sit'. But now she didn't feel that was necessary, she was a woman now, and besides her graceful blush there was no other way she felt she needed to react.

Inuyasha on the other hadn't couldn't seem to be able to put his emotions into check.

Seeing her creamy white breast exposed had made the lower region of his body ache instantly. She was flawless, her breast full and her dark nipple rounded to perfection. He trembled at the sight, nearly groaning when she covered her stunning skin back up.

Inuyasha slowly raised his eyes to meet Kagome's gaze. What he saw behind her blush was startling . . . arousing. He read lust and raw desire. Not able to help being pulled into her trance he put a hand on each side of her body, leaning forward until his chest pressed against hers.

Kagome's breath caught, but she didn't pull away in fear or rejection. As he stared intently into her eyes and began lowering his head, Kagome met him half way meshing their lips together in a passionate bond. A growl came from inside Inuyasha's throat as he parted her lips with his tongue deepening the kiss with sweet abandon.

He put a hand behind her head as he gently laid her to the ground. His sharp fangs nipped at her lips between kisses, but never once nicking her or giving her pain. His lips on hers felt amazing, incredible . . . enticing.

Kagome felt herself drowning in a sea of Inuyasha, letting herself go, not caring for air. Only the sweetness of his lips and this moment. The sun still shone through the trees, landing on the moss like sparkling diamonds. Birds still chirped and the waterfall still roared in the distance proving that time stopped for no one. Not even the two from different worlds, different times who have waited so long for the other to surrender to his sweet temptation.

Inuyasha broke the kiss to trail soft moist kisses down her arm. He lifted her wrist to his mouth to knick her lightly, making her bleed softly, branding her with his mark. His sweet tongue flicked over the wound tasting her. But Kagome felt no pain, only pure ecstasy, her body was on fire screaming for Inuyasha's touch, demanding to have his kisses seer her in places she's only dreamed of.

As if hearing her passion hazed thoughts, Inuyasha trailed his tongue back up her arm leaving sweet burning sensations behind everywhere his lips touched. He nibbled on Kagome's neck causing her to sigh in pleasure. He licked his way down to her breast, guiding his tongue over the soft, creamy mound, flicking over her soft beaded nipple. That pulled forth an ardent moan from Kagome, her cries sounded like sweet music to his ears, sending all his senses reeling.

He took her other breast into his palm, loving how its fullness fit perfectly into his hand. Inuyasha dragged his lips to her mouth and kissed her soundly as his hand still kneaded her breast. Taking her nipple between his thumb and forefinger he teased it zealously.

Inuyasha captured Kagome's tongue in his mouth ensuing her with deep, long, sensuous kisses. Shifting his weight, Inuyasha now laid fully on top of her, intending to take make entirely her his in all the right ways.

Kagome cried out, not in pleasure, but pain. He knew the difference and rolled off of her facing away so she could right herself.

“What's wrong?”

“It's my ribs. I don't think they're broken, just bruised.”

Inuyasha handed Kagome her bag not looking back. “Get dressed. We've stayed long enough already. We don't want any demons sensing the jewel again.”

After digging the jewel from under the root, Inuyasha left Kagome, giving her some privacy.

Kagome tried not to linger on the feeling of rejection that weighed heavily on her. She began to dress.

She put on her sky blue dress. The bodice was snug with buttons going up from the waist. The bottom of the dress was flowing and extended, though it went no further than her calves. She wore her flat shoes again for comfort.

Kagome still felt weak and knew she lost some weight over the past couple of weeks, for her dress fit differently. As Kagome bent to grab her bag she noticed two small pierce marks on her wrist. If she didn't know better she'd think she was bitten by a vampire. But everyone knows that vampires bite the neck, right?

So what . . .? Flash backs of Inuyasha touching and kissing invaded her mind and her body. She looked at her wrist. Could Inuyasha have . . .? Kagome doubted it, but she had been too infused with passion to have noticed anyway.

Before she could contemplate or reminisce any longer she heard Inuyasha walk up behind her.

“Inuyasha . . .” She turned to find his expression softly surprised and subtly pleased.

“Kagome, you look . . . beautiful.”

Kagome blushed and self-consciously touched the lose bun that she put her hair into. It was lose and shiny tendrils of hair framed her face.

She didn't feel `beautiful', she felt pale and dirty. But she knew what happened the last time she tried to bathe. A wolf demon seen her naked! She wasn't about to attempt that again just yet.

Inuyasha offered to carry her bag for her. She agreed feeling too weak to carry more than her own weight.

Inuyasha led the way not knowing exactly where he was taking Kagome, but knew he needed to keep her safe. The smart thing to do would be to send her home regardless of how she protested or how many times she told him `sit'. But he was being selfish, instead of ensuring her safety by sending her home; he was taking a chance just so he could keep her near.

Being with her again made him never want to let her go. He did before, but this time she would know how he felt whether she goes home or not.

She was walking right along side of him with no complaints, but he could see the fatigue written on her face and hear her labored breathing. He turned his back toward her. “Get on,” he demanded.

Kagome was going to refuse but thought better of it. She was tired and longed to be close to Inuyasha. She climbed on his back and placed both of her knees in the crooks of each of his arms.

`This is just like old times,' Kagome thought, `yet so much has changed.' She touched her lips remembering the intense kisses Inuyasha had abundantly given her. It had been more that she ever dreamed of. He had felt and tasted amazing, incomparable.

So hard yet so gentle, demanding yet giving. Had Kagome been stronger and not in so much pain she would have allowed him to take her. She had dreamed of it for all these years she had been away from him. To be near him again was so overwhelming she felt herself tremble with longing.

“Kagome?”

“Hmm?” Kagome was afraid to speak for he may have heard the desire in her voice.

“Are you alright? You're trebling.”

Kagome was glad Inuyasha couldn't see her flushing. “I'm fine,” she managed to whisper. Inuyasha shrugged unperturbedly and kept walking.

He carried her as though she weighed no more than a feather. Kagome felt awed by his strength. How could he be so strong yet so tender?

Kagome knew his outside shell radiated strength and hard remoteness, but she knew that he was compassionate on the inside. He had a heart of gold and Kagome had been witness to that too many times to not believe it true.

She savored in this closeness with him. Something as simple him carrying her on his back shouldn't be so intimate, but it was.

It always had been.

After a while of walking Inuyasha set her down near a river. “I'll catch us some dinner,” he said simply, than went to work. Kagome lounged back and watched Inuyasha take off the jacket of his kimono. Kagome could see his muscles underneath his white shirt and knew he was more muscle toned than six years ago.

His biceps were indeed larger and his chest was wider. Kagome had always admired his physique before, but now he looked stronger and more masculine than ever. But it wasn't overdone and that's what made Inuyasha so subtly sexy because he wasn't trying to be.

He wasn't the same guy she left six years before. He was a man now, plain and simple. Only there was nothing neither plain nor simple about Inuyasha. He was full of so many dimensions that she wanted to discover and there were things in his heart and mind that she longed do uncover.

Being with him didn't feel real. And the slight alteration he took on definitely didn't seem real either.

Inuyasha felt Kagome's gaze on his back as he caught trout with his bare hands. Her stare made him a bit uncomfort-able, but he had to admit that on some strange level he like her eyes on him. Taking his catch to the river side, he kneeled next to Kagome and made a fire to cook their dinner on. He stuck the fish on sticks and set them in the fire to cook slowly.

Sitting next to Kagome he crossed his legs and sighed. He felt content being with her like this. No longer having to worry about finding jewel shards or having to defeat Naraku, just them just . . . being.

Neither of them needed to speak, just being close was enough. As their dinner cooked they both watched the sun set in the orange and pink sky. Purple began to line the skies natural canvas making for a romantic setting.

The clouds looked like white, puffy veils shimmering in pink from the setting sun. Kagome thought it was beautiful as it met the moment perfectly, in their quiet repose.
