DISCLAIMER: I DON'T OWN INUYASHA. (YET, HAHA)
A/N: hi again ^_^ so this is chapter 18. Never thought I'd get here cause I'm kinda lazy and often use writers block as an excuse not to sit my butt down and write, lol. But I'm not rushing my story, it's takin' its own sweet time as it goes and progresses and I don't believe I need fourty-somethin' chapters to make my story great. So it may only be 19 or 20, big deal, I'll be happy with it! lol. Happy reading!!

It almost felt like a dream to Kagome for she knew it couldn't be real that Inuyasha was actually letting her go back to her own time. Standing at her side of the well with Inuyasha again seemed like some kind of painful déjà vu. It was about six years ago when they had stood here once before ready to say goodbye forever. But this time wouldn't be forever, right? Kagome looked back upon her earlier conversation with Inuyasha when he woke her and told her she was going home.
Kagome had hugged him with surprised relief and happiness. “Inuyasha, thank you so much,” she said while holding his body close to hers. Clinging to the man she loves, the man who was giving back her freedom. She pulled away quickly though, her eyes filled with worry. “I will be coming back won't I, Inuyasha? I can take the jewel and—”
“No Kagome.”
Her face had a stricken and panicked look.
“I'll hold the jewel . . .”
“And than you'll come for me? You'll come get me?” Her voice held such hope, such longing that Inuyasha didn't have the heart to tell her the truth. It was best she didn't find out right now. She'd realize eventually.
“Yeah, I'll go get you . . .”
But that was all Kagome had to hear earlier that morning to believe that he would come for her. So she was feeling less scared, that she would never see him again. She knew that he'd come for her. They were mates it was forever for them now.
Her black bag rested at her feet as she stood silent before Inuyasha. It wasn't an awkward silence, but more of a heavy quiet filled with tortured emotion. Tears begin to block Kagome's vision. She blinked rapidly to clear her sight so she could keep her eyes focused on Inuyasha.
Even though she knew this wasn't goodbye. More of a `see ya later', she still felt fear well up in the pit of her stomach, an ache in her heart that just could not let up.
Inuyasha couldn't bear watching the looks of fear and worry play over her beautiful face. So he grabbed her and pulled her close to him. Kagome let out a heart wrenching sob and allowed her self to be held by the love of her life. She clung tightly to him with some secret fear that she'll never see him again. That he won't come back for her.
Kagome rested her head against Inuyasha's shoulder and sobbed quietly. Inuyasha held her close feeling helpless. Knowing he couldn't keep her here any longer. Regardless of how badly he longed to be mates with her for life. He turned and kissed her forehead and smoothed her hair with his hand.
He heard Kagome sigh between tears and he just held her. Kagome shifted slightly hugging him tight, almost wishing they could become one. Inuyasha leaned slightly and kissed the side of her neck lovingly. Kagome pulled back a little to look at him through tear filled eyes. He smiled softly, sadly, as though he wished to comfort her further but didn't know how. Their eyes met and held as they got lost in the moment and one another.
They leaned in unison and their lips met softly. Their mouths moved together, against each other tenderly. Inuyasha touched his tongue to Kagome's softly and she sighed hopelessly. She pulled away unable to bear the pain any longer. Even a week would seem like an eternity with out him. Being with out him at all was just too hard to handle. So she either says goodbye now or she'll never leave.
Inuyasha knew by the look on her face that it was time to let go. He pulled unhurriedly from their embrace and took a hesitant step back. Kagome's eyes began to fill as she whispered, “Goodbye, Inuyasha.”
He stared at her for a moment, drinking in every feature so that he'll never forget her beautiful face for all of eternity. Then, with out a word or second glance, he jumped into the well and out of Kagome's sight.
She stood for only a second in the dark well house. The silence was deafening and painful. Kagome turned, bag in hand, and climbed the steps slowly. She wondered secretly if she would ever see him again.
He told her he'd come back for her, but . . .
She reached the top of the stairs and turned to the well for one last look. It was once again empty and hollow . . . just like her.

Kagome listened to her grandfather's steady breathing as she sat on a chair next to his bed. He was no longer in the hospital but in his own bed in his own room. But the doctor had ordered plenty of bed rest. He also suggested that Kagome and her mother monitor her grandfather to make sure his condition doesn't worsen.
The last thing they wanted was for him to have another scare. Kagome's mother told her, had they got her grandpa to the hospital any later he would have had a stroke.
Kagome had been sitting with him on and off as did her mother. She didn't mind though. She had missed her family terribly and was more than a little worried about her Grandfather. But she was very happy to have came back to see with her own eyes that her Grandpa was going to be ok.
Plus it just felt good to be home with her family over all . . . and yet . . . she really missed Inuyasha. It's only been a week since she's been back. And she wondered when he was coming back for her. They had never established when he'd be back. But now she wished they had, for she's stuck wondering and waiting for him.
She didn't attempt to return to work and was very lucky that she was arrested as soon as there was word that she was back. Thankfully Hojo saved her butt. He had replaced the missing jewel with one of the knock offs that her Grandfather had lying around. Hojo had told Kagome that he knew she took the jewel by the way she rushed off that day. For he had checked her desk and found the jewel gone as was she.
Kagome had thanked him more than a million times for his help. He didn't ask why she took the jewel or where it was and she wasn't about to tell him. But their friendship still remained just that: a good friendship.
Kagome hadn't seen any of her friends yet. But she's sure she would eventually. After all she's only been here for a week. Though she honestly hoped it wouldn't be longer than that. She desperately missed and longed for Inuyasha.
And so her wait for him began . . .
