My mother being as prim as she was covered her mouth as she gave a small giggle. “Honestly Kagome, all I said was that you two had to go to dinner and a dance.”

Somehow I wasn't too convinced with her answer; otherwise she wouldn't look so happy and mischievous. That's when I realized she had made this whole situation even bigger by making me go to dinner too!

“Mama, I'm glad that you were able to convince Inuyasha to go to the dance, but aren't you going just a bit too far by making him have to go to a restaurant as well?” Not to mention that every single restaurant would be full of students and someone was bound to recognize me and try to find out who my date was, and with my luck we'd run into my so called friends.

“Kagome the night wouldn't be complete without it! Besides, maybe you could double with one of your friends and go as a group. Wouldn't that make it less stressful for the two of you?”

Truth be told, Inuyasha and I were usually better off alone. For me, his presence seemed to just calm me and make me feel safe and sometimes there was just no need for words. With other people around, especially here I would constantly have people trying to make conversation with him and try to find out more. That would just ruin the entire event.

“Mama I'm really sorry but I don't want to have to add to this okay? We made a deal and it did not include dinner with friends.”

Entering the large chic boutique on the corner of Sakimoto and Yurasagi; the cold breeze was a relief from the stuffy city air outside. Now I had known why Inuyasha hated the city, its air was nothing compared to that of the clean air in the feudal era. Eyeballing the place I thought that it might not be as bad as I had thought. There were many dresses that seemed elegant yet sexy, and spotting some shoes in the back made my spirit soar.

From behind I saw my mother give her approval with a nod of her own, turning to me she gave me a smile before saying, “I think we may have a winner in the first store, let's look around shall we?”

And so we began our search for the perfect dress. My mother's taste was as I had thought it would be- awful. She kept pulling out dresses that might have been suitable on a woman her age. But when I suggested it, she simply laughed it off saying she could never wear a dress like that.

The dresses I selected seemed to raise her brows more than anything, which I had learned was the sign to put it back and step away from the rack. Even though we didn't seem to be making any progress I found it quite enjoyable to be shopping with my mother. She seemed the happiest I'd seen her in a while and I felt just a tad bit guilty for trying to take this from her.

And so 2 and a half hours later we were escorted into the dressing rooms with our 4 final dresses. The whole time I had been looking around my mother had been picking out dresses and sending them to the dressing room which made me a little bit nervous, but seeing as how night was upon us and I was getting hungry I gave in and tried them on.

The first 3 were acceptable dresses, one white, the other beige and the third black which really wasn't too bad. But when I saw the last dress I knew it was the one. It was a deep red satin, with a halter-like top. The two delicate straps went to the back and made a soft x, while the rest was backless until my lower back. Its long flowy skirt made me feel like a princess and it fit my body perfectly.

When I exited the dressing room my mother's expression was that of many. At first she was surprised, and then she was happy and then she started balling her eyes out telling me how beautiful I was and yelling at the attendant to wrap it up.

After taking off the dress, I felt a bit sad for having to take it off; reluctantly I handed it to the attendant and met with my mom. “Oh sweetheart that dress was so marvelous, Inuyasha is going to love it!”

Somehow I knew there was something she wasn't telling me. “Mama, what made you chose that one? It still seems a bit flashy even for your taste, not to mention its red.”

She twirled the credit card around as she waited nervously for the package. Fortunate for her the attendant handed us our bags and my mother bolted for the door. “Kagome I hope you don't mind but I went ahead and got you the matching shoes while you were in the dressing room.”

Mind? Hell no. But she was still dancing around my question. Could it be that somehow my sneaky mother had managed to find out that Inuyasha favorite color was red? Surely she wouldn't be so bold as to ask him herself, although she did have a way of getting information from you without even knowing it.

Deciding on eating out we ran into the first restaurant buffet we saw and pigged out. Now that I had a dress and shoes, I was completely at peace to enjoy some modern food.

Once again our conversation was upbeat, no arguments although I still had this nagging suspicion that she wasn't telling me something. Making our way onto the bus I clutched my dress and smiled, it was beautiful, and I couldn't believe Mama had picked it out.

Hopefully things would go alright at the festival, the butterflies in my stomach didn't help and I suddenly felt nervous even though it was still four days away.

Would Inuyasha be alright with it? Would he dance with me? Who was I kidding, this may be the human side of him but I really didn't think he'd be comfortable dancing in front of everyone on a crowded dance floor. And I wouldn't want him to feel uncomfortable. It was bad enough he had gotten roped into this whole mess, I was going to try to make him enjoy it.

When the bus stopped I was so elated to see the shrine just above the hill. I thanked my mother once again before running up the steps eager to take a shower and go to bed. Looking down at my watch I noticed it was half past 10, surely Inuyasha was asleep by now. Opening my door slowly I was eloped in darkness.

Letting out the breath I had been holding I slowly slipped into my room and closed the door as quietly as I could. I fumbled my way around trying to hang my dress in the closet. After all I wanted it to be a surprise for Inuyasha.

Managing to hang it up safely, I threw the other bags into the closet as well and shut the door. Turning around I cursed my eyesight, for they had not yet adjusted to the light. I made my way towards my drawers and found something I prayed was pj's and under garments and stumbled into the bathroom.

The brightness of the light hurt my eyes as I fumbled with my clothes before jumping into the shower. I thought back and realized that I hadn't been able to see if Inuyasha had been in bed or not. Surely he was, otherwise were would he have been? Deciding it was late enough as it was, I reluctantly cut my shower short. Toweling off my hair I dressed into my bra and underwear before realizing I had brought the wrong pajamas. Instead of my loose fitting ones, I had brought a white tight tank with shorts so short they could have been my underwear.

Oh well, Inuyasha was asleep right? So all I had to do was make sure the sheet stayed on me all night and in the morning he would be up before me anyway. Turning out the light I waited for my eyes to adjust before trying to walk to my bed.

So you could imagine my surprise when I open the door to my room and find that my lamp was on. And then there's something even more shocking, something that made my heart race and jaw drop to the ground.

Lying sideways facing me was Inuyasha propped up on his arm staring at me with a striking smile on his face. His black hair swept back, and the dim light made his skin seem even golden, and as my eyes traveled lower I realized the biggest blow of all. Inuyasha lay on the cot in some black trim boxers with his bare legs semi tangled in the white sheets giving him such an exotic sexy look that made all kinds of emotions stir within me.

“I heard you having trouble in the dark.”

It took a while for his comment to sink in, and for me to stop drooling at the mouth. How thoughtful of him I thought at first, or had he purposely tried so show off his body to me as revenge from earlier?

“Thank you Inuyasha.” I said as I made my way towards the bed, making sure to put an extra little wiggle in my walk.

Climbing into the bed I could practically feel the burn in his gaze as he watched me. I couldn't help but smirk at the sudden rush of power I held. “Where you hot?” I asked my eyes betrayed me as they gazed towards his lower half.

Making my way back towards his eyes, his met with mine and the smirk was now on his face. “Well I figured since you felt so comfortable dressing in front of me that I should feel comfortable sleeping how I want. You don't mind do you?”

Oh I could just strangle his neck; he was doing it on purpose for earlier. Well, two could play at this game.

“Mind? Of course not Inuyasha,” I said saying his name in a low voice while lying propped up on both of my elbows. Leaning in I gave him the most perfect view of my cleavage as I asked, “So how was your night with Sota?”

Seeing as how he was having such a hard time answering my question I simply laid back on my bed turning off the light beforehand, “Goodnight Inuyasha.”

4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. “Yeah Goodnight,” came the gruff response from the cot next to me. The smile I had wore off as I noticed that Inuyasha didn't cover himself up. Instead he was practically advertising himself as he placed one arm behind his head and laid on his back.

OH yeah, I was going to get some sleep. And Miroku was a saint.
