InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Under the Blood Red Sun ❯ Ambushed by a ghost ( Chapter 13 )
Chapter 13: Ambushed by a ghost
InuYasha stood there dumbstruck at her barely hidden boobs. His face turned red and he was glad the hood hid his face from her. “What the hell are you doing! Put your damn cloak on and get the hell out here now!” InuYasha growled at her as he hopped out the window.
A few minutes later she climbed out and adjusted her black cloak. “Happy? That’s what you get for not warning me, Silver Fang!” she hissed at him as she pulled the hood over her head.
“Tonight I have a from the wolves and have to complete their assignment. I need an archer for the target is at a distance. Are you ready for it?” he asked her as he pulled two dark brown horses from the woods by her hut.
“Yes.” Kagome said as she mounted one of them.
“Good.” he said as he mounted the other an led the way to the wolves target, a merchant that had cheated them out of their profit. Normally Sesshomaru would send the guards but he had asked for it, a way to train the princess. His brother agreed as long as she didn’t get injured. He sniffed, “Are you injured?” he asked after he smelt her blood.
“From two days ago. When that bug attacked me.” she told him as she held her side.
“It must have reopened. Here stop and let me check it.” he said, his voice going soft.
“Okay.” she replied, though he could tell she was skeptical. He lifted the cloak up and then her shirt to look at the wound.
“You should ask Lord InuYasha for his healing balm.” InuYasha told her with a smirk. “It heals wounds faster. But I doubt you’ll want it.”
“Maybe I will!” she shot back all spice once again.
“Okay calm down and lets continue. Our target is a merchant who’s been cheating a lot of the demons in our area out of their profits and lord Sesshomaru wished me to dispose of him.” InuYasha told her as they rode deeper into the forest.
“Really? Hmm, what was this merchants name?” Kagome asked.
“Somebody named Mushin.” InuYasha said as they rode toward the city
“Mushin!” Kagome gasped, then giggled, “He’s an old monk who used to steal wine and sake from my master’s store house. My master banished him with a single cup of sake and left him in a barren field.”
“Really? Hmm in that case, then we have no need of your arrows.” he said smugly. “Taking on a drunk monk will be no problem.”
“The again he was possessed by an evil aura then and maybe he is again.” Kagome said thoughtfully.
“Stay here I’ll be right back.” InuYasha ordered as he turned and nudged his horse into a gallop. After a ways he jumped off the horse and tied him to a tree then ran off using his demonic speed to find Miroku. He located the monk sneaking around the women’s bath house where, InuYasha smelt a familiar scent. Smirking he said aloud. “Oi! Monk! Get over here!”
Miroku immediately hit the forest ground and cowered as Sango emerged from the house wearing a white robe and carrying her famous weapon, Hiraikotsu. She easily bashed him on the head and stomped inside. “Pervert!” she yelled as the door slammed shut.
“What was that for?” Miroku asked him as InuYasha picked the monk up and placed him on his back. With lightning speed InuYasha soon reached his brown horse and laid an unconscious monk in front of the saddle and urged his horse into a gallop after he had mounted after the monk. The horse’s gait caused Miroku’s limp form to bounce around and his head seemed to have the worst time. Soon they came to where Kagome was at and Miroku was covered in scratches and cuts.
“What did you do to him!” Kagome exclaimed as soon as Miroku’s limp form fell to the ground.
“I found him prowling around the women’s bath. We need him if there’s an evil aura.” InuYasha said as he produced a thin vial from his cloak and dumped it on an edge of cloth he seemingly pulled out of the air. He shoved it under the monk’s nose and Miroku groaned.
“I didn’t think she had hit me that hard, my body feels like it was dragged through a forest and dropped off a cliff.” Miroku said as he groggily stood up.
“Miroku let Silver hold you up it was his doing.” Kagome said sternly when Miroku swayed.
“Sure, why am I here?” Miroku asked as he looked around them. “Are we at that one place where I umm found that lady’s trinket?”
“I know not of that, monk.” InuYasha said as he cringed inwardly. That was a bad memory for them all. Miroku had wondered here searching for the fabled Silver Fang and had come across some lady’s brooch. He was caught and brought into the castle and tried as a murderer of a minor lord who InuYasha had happened to be charged with her death. InuYasha then said a wondering monk who had just talked to the weapons master could not have possibly killed her then appeared at the sight of her murder after consulting with Sango. They believed him and set the monk go after branding his hand with an iron bar. Miroku thereafter called his right hand cursed.
“Hey Kagome why am I here?” he said as he looked around and noticed the deep hood of InuYasha’s cloak. “Sango didn’t live up to her threats did she?”
InuYasha barely retrained a chuckle, “No monk I was commissioned to dispose of a wine merchant who has been cheating people out of their hard earned money.” InuYasha said then quickly turned hearing a rustle in the forest.
“What’s wrong Fang?” Miroku asked seeing his wild glances turn in cold calculating glares. InuYasha’s silver cloak held a special spell that allowed only the people he wanted to be able to see the golden glint in his eyes. The gold hardened and turned colder as InuYasha pinpointed the cause of the sound.
“Get down!” he growled as he threw himself at Kagome. He tackled the girl to the ground just as the volley of arrows sprung overhead. He twisted her above him so he hit the ground hard. His long silver cloak fluttered around them as the dust settled. InuYasha closed his eyes and concentrated on his cloak, willing himself and the girl that was hidden beneath the long folds to be concealed on the ground. “Quiet and don’t move.” he whispered to her. She nodded and he felt it against his chest. He could sense Miroku constructing a barrier around himself.
He heard the sound of voices. “Do you think we got them?”
“In a volley of that amount I doubt it missed them.” another said.
“All we wanted was that assassin.” a cold voice said.
“You two scout the area. And be careful.” a new voice said.
“Yes sir.” two voices said. InuYasha tensed as a pair of footsteps came closer. “There’s nothing here.” one said.
“There has to be. Nobody but a demon could dodge those arrows. And Master Naraku said the Silver Fang isn’t one.”
“Come on maybe it was a bird or something.” one said as the footsteps receded.
“Or a ghost.” the second one said and the smell of fear drifted to InuYasha’s canine nose. He smirked. “Kagome, I’m going to stand really slowly but I’m going to hold you so don’t squirm.” he whispered to her and Kagome nodded. He rose slowly seemingly coming out of the ground. In front of him one of the men stopped and turned around sensing his presence. The man turned white and took off screaming while the other watched his comrade run. Shaking his head he turned to look InuYasha straight into the black void of his hood, where his face should be.
“I am the dead of this forest! You dare to desecrate this sacred burial ground!” InuYasha said in a low raspy voice. Kagome caught on and fluttered the front of the cloak giving it an floating appearance. The last man turned an ran screaming, as arrows suddenly floated off the ground and darted after him. Three pegged him in the leg, but the man stumbled towards his camp.
“Okay let’s get out of here.” Miroku said as he materialized next to InuYasha.
“Nice one monk.” InuYasha said as he chucked. Kagome stepped out from the folds of the cloak and stepped to the side of InuYasha.
Miroku looked back and forth then smiled. “So what were you two doing under there?”
Kagome blanched then turned red. “Hentai!” she said as she stepped back. “We weren’t doing anything.” InuYasha and Kagome said together.
“That’s what they all say.” Miroku said as InuYasha swiped a hand and hit the monk in the back of the head.
“Kagome, I felt you” InuYasha started but was cut off by Miroku.
“And you call me a pervert!” he said as he threw his hands in the air.
“As I was saying I felt you stiffen at that man’s Naraku’s name. Why?” InuYasha asked ignoring Miroku’s perverted comments.
“He’s a cold and heartless man. He was known in the Eastern Kingdom as a swindler and in some cases a murderer, his other side, Onigumo was kind an calm. The princess was engaged to him before her father was murdered by him. The princess is missing and no one knows where she went.” Kagome said as she walked on besides InuYasha staring at the ground.
‘you know where she is.’ InuYasha thought as they came to the gates of the town. “Miroku we need you today.” InuYasha said letting Miroku’s name slip.
“Oh I guess I graduated in your favor? Now I’m Miroku after that arrow thing?” Miroku said rescuing InuYasha from his slip. He and Miroku weren’t supposed to know each other.
“Whatever. Come on I know where it is.” InuYasha said as he grabbed Kagome’s wrist with his clawed hand.
