It had been nearly a week since her confrontation with Inuyasha in the dining room, and since then, his talks of marriage has become all to real.
In the past week Kagome had proven she was not very good at playing the lady, and Inuyasha had proved to be equally as bad at being a teacher so his only option was to leave the city, and make his into the country and seek the help of a professional…His mother.
So with his future bride, and Kaede in tow they made their way across the countryside and in a weeks time they made to Inuyasha mother's home that sat on impressively large land.
As the carriage made it's way up the cobble stone path Kagome could only feel a sense of dread sink into her bones. She saw no way out of this ridiculous situation.
"Kagome dear snap out of it." Inuyasha said as he took her smaller hand in his larger one. "It's time to meet mother."
"She won't like me." She heard herself say.
Inuyasha smirked. "My mother will like you." He replied. "She has no choice."
"What is that supposed to mean?" Kagome asked.
"It mean's nothing." Inuyasha said as he helped both women out of the coach. "Oh, and while we still have a chance to speak I think I would be best if you allowed me to answer my mother question's about our relationship."
Kagome glared. "Why?" She asked. "So you can lie?"
"No, so I can make up a fairytale." Inuyasha eyes glimmer coldly. "Of course so I can lie!"
"It'll all seem the same to me." She said with a frown as he pulled her towards the massive doors taking two steps at a time. "Fairytale, and lies."
"Stop frowning dear it's unbecoming." Inuyasha stated in his ever so hard voice.
Before she could retort the door swung open to revealed a slender woman who possessed warm brown eyes, waist length brown hair, and a welcoming smile. All in all she was very beautiful.
"OH INUYASHA!" She woman exclaimed enthusiastically. "I wasn't expecting you." She said as she threw her arms around his broad shoulders nearly knocking him down.
"Geeze, Ma I missed you too." He said hesitantly putting his arms around her waist.
"Ma?" Kagome thought, sharing a confused glance with Kaede. "The woman looked young enough to be his sister."
"We were just on our way out Sango, and I." She gushed. "Would you and your friends care to join us for a little leisure carriage ride?"
Before he could answer her question a very beautiful, very exotic, and very pregnant woman came forth.
"Inuyasha I'm so glad to see that you are back." She expressed her happiness with a hug and two kisses. One for each cheek. "I have missed you greatly."
Inuyasha felt a little uncomfortable with Sango's antics she did this every time they spent any long lengthy time apart. "And how is this coming along?" He asked rubbing his hand across her belly showing genuine affection.
Sango's full lips turned upward. "Very active, but other than that my first pregnancy is coming along fine." She said this time with a hint of an accent that did not go unnoticed by Kagome, nor Kaede.
"And where is your lecher of a husband." Inuyasha questioned.
Sango frowned in thought. "He is not here." She said on a sigh. "He brought me here so I would not be alone while he was away on one of his trips."
Kagome could tell the woman was not pleased with his absence, and her displeasure was only intensified due to her current condition.
Inuyasha on the other hand was curious. What in Gods name could be so damn important that it would actually make Miroku leave his very pregnant wife's side? Well whatever it is he was he was sure he'd find out soon enough.
"Inuyasha dear are you coming or what?" He mother asked bringing him back to reality.
He grinned lopsidedly at her. "You know what mother I think my guest here will decline, but I on the other hand will join you because we have much to speak on."
His mother frowned, as she looked both Kagome, and Kaede over. "They do look a bit fatigued." She said. "But I think these women have the right to accept or decline my invitation without a man's say so."
Kagome smiled knowing she would like Inuyasha's mother greatly, but with one look at Inuyasha face she knew not to test him just yet. She put on a pretty smile, but before she could speak Kaede stepped in. "Thank you ever so much, but me and the Miss will be retiring if that is not a problem.
"Well of course not!" She gushed. "I will have a house hand show you two to your rooms, and you will be summoned for dinner when we all return from our ride."
"Thank you madam." Kaede said, and looked at Kagome expectantly.
"Oh yes." Kagome said hurriedly. "Thank you madam."
"No problem I' am just happy to have more guest in my home." Exclaimed the Inuyasha's mother her warm brown eyes twinkling.
Inuyasha watched as the scene unfolded, he sighed with relief when somebody was finally summoned to take them to their rooms.
"Inuyasha." Sango whispered as she too watched the new women walk up the steps. "You have a lot of explaining to do."
He contemplated lying, but he figured it was no use Sango always knew when someone was lying it was like her sixth sense.
"Aye that I do." He agreed. "But first I need to send of a letter to someone before we take off,"
"Be my guest, your mother is off making sure your guest are comfortable." Sango said.
"Well that's just great."
***
"Child are you sure you are comfortable?" The lady of the house asked for the umpteenth time.
Kagome smiled out of pure annoyance although Inuyasha mother was as sweet as honey she could be a real nuisance.
"Yes Ma'am, I'm fine just tired." Kagome said. "Aren't you all leaving?"
"Yes well Inuyasha needed to write a note quickly." She said flipping her hair back.
"Oh." Kagome frowned wondering whom he could be writing to. Maybe her father, or maybe Kikyo! No that's just silly, no one knew where Kikyo was except for a select few, and Inuyasha was not one of them.
"Well child I will not ask you who you are to my son yet but I intent on getting answers eventually." She said never losing her tone it stayed soft yet musical. She turned to leave. "By the way I' am Rin and I wished to be call so, and I' am The Lady of this house so if you need anything just feel free to ask. She explained, smiling.
"Well thank you…Rin.
"Your welcome…" She paused. "I do not know your name."
"It is Kagome."
Rin smiled and tested the name on her lips. "It is a beautiful name."
Kagome watched Rin's retreating back and it was then that she felt safe in saying that she had made a friend.
