A/N: Note, there is LEMON in this chapter near the end and it is a bit um... unconventional. Nothing too strange or graphic, but if you’re a vanilla person then it might be a little beyond your personal preference, but it was necessary for what is to come in the following chapters. So bear with me and skim if you must, just so long as you understand what happened.
As always reviews are both welcome and appreciated.
“It can’t be,” Kagome whispered as bright green eyes met her own.
“I know; it’s fucked up, ain’t it. About two years ago he was the same runt you remember, and I come back six moons later and he had grown up,” InuYasha said.
The little girl squealed as she was lifted onto the shoulders of the fox demon. She laughed as he ran. Shippou didn’t stop until he was right in front of Kagome. The little girl on his shoulders smiled shyly and waved at Taro.
“I didn’t think we’d ever see you again after that idiot let you leave,” Shippou said.
“Hey, my papa is not a baka,” Taro protested, growling a little for emphasis.
“Nah, he’s right this time,” InuYasha corrected. “I was a idiot for letting your mama leave.”
“Papa...you guys have a kid? But that would mean Kagome and you...” Shippou put the little girl down and growled at InuYasha. “You let her leave after taking her innocence. I thought I smelled her on you after she left, but I was sure that you wouldn’t do that, not to Kagome.”
Kagome stepped between InuYasha and Shippou. “Shippou, I asked him to be with me,” Kagome explained. “What’s done is done, and I was given a precious gift. I want this to be a happy reunion, and that can’t happen if you are going to fight with my mate over a choice I made five years ago.”
Shippou sniffed her and looked at InuYasha. “You made her your mate.”
“Keh, of course I did,” he scoffed. “She’s the mother of my son. I wanted to do it back then, but I thought I was protecting her. Of course I didn’t know about the pup.”
“You better be good to her,” Shippou said.
“You don’t need to tell me that,” InuYasha replied.
“Then let’s go see Sango and Miroku. Sango will be happy to have Kagome here for the birth,” Shippou told them. “Kimi and I are playing out here because her pains started about two hours ago.”
Miroku was sitting outside the hut. He looked up and at first could not believe his eyes. InuYasha smirked at the wide-eyed houshi. “Hey bouzo, I believe you remember Kagome, my mate.”
“Such a wonderful omen, that my child would be born the same day the fair Kagome has returned to us,” Miroku said, as he hugged Kagome.
“Oi, pup, get over here,” InuYasha called.
Miroku watched a boy of about four come running. “Yes, papa.”
“Bouzo, this is InuTaro, my son,” InuYasha told him. “I think you can guess what happened.”
“My guess would be that both of you stubborn fools were so convinced that the other would be happier with someone else, that you spent five years apart after having let yourselves have one night where you were true to your hearts,” Miroku offered.
“That’s about right,” Kagome admitted.
Just then, the mat covering the door of the hut opened, and Sango stepped out. She was sweating and panting softly. Tears welled up in her eyes at the sight of her lost sister. Kagome went to her, to spare her trying to walk and they embraced.
“Sango my love, you should not be up,” Miroku said gently.
“Well, I would not be up if someone had brought Kagome to see me, instead of standing outside talking all day, when he knows how much I have longed to see her again,” Sango spat back.
“Ah...of course you are right, my darling, please forgive me...” Miroku replied quickly.
Sango then caught sight of the silver haired little boy playing with her daughter. “Kagome, who...”
Kagome smiled. “Let’s get you back inside, and I’ll tell you everything.”
Sango groaned as a contraction hit her and nodded. Kagome told her friend the whole story to help distract her from her pain. Finally, the time came to push.
“I am glad you are here, my sister,” Sango said, squeezing her eyes shut. With the final push, the taijiya’s yell could be heard echoing through the nearby forest. “Houshi-sama, you are never touching me again....Ahh!”
The woman who had come to help with the birth handed Kagome a swaddled infant as she tended to Sango. “He’s beautiful,” Kagome said, placing the boy in his mother’s arms.
Just as the sun set, the others were permitted to enter the hut. InuYasha sat beside his mate, and she noticed that his eyes never strayed long from the tiny bundle. Miroku and Sango noticed as well, and the lecherous monk looked to his wife who nodded.
InuYasha looked up as Miroku stood in front of him. “Would you like to hold him?”
Even though Kagome was certain that her hanyou would refuse, she could see that he had been deeply touched that he would be trusted with something so precious. She found that she was wrong about one thing, though, as he nodded and raised his arms. She watched as her beautiful InuYasha placed one hand behind the baby’s head and neck, and the other under his bottom, and then pulled the infant to his chest. He studied the tiny face and smiled softly.
InuYasha glanced at his mate. “Was our pup ever this small?”
“Yes, he was,” Kagome replied quietly.
Her hanyou nodded and rose gracefully, not at all thrown off balance by the slight weight in his arms. He gave Miroku and Sango a nod of thanks as he returned their son to them, and then went outside without so much as a word. Kagome quickly followed.
Of course he knew that she had joined him, without even looking. “Kagome, I was thinking,” InuYasha started. “When do you think you might want to have another? I wasn’t there when Taro was born... I missed so much.”
“I’m sorry,” she said quietly.
InuYasha smelt a trace of salt as tears sprang to her eyes. “Don’t cry. I didn’t mean it like it sounded. I don’t blame you for the choice you made.”
Kagome wrapped her arms around his waist. “I thought maybe we could spend some time the way things are. I want to have another baby with you, but I still haven’t even told you about Taro yet.”
“What about him?” InuYasha asked.
“The well opened the day he was born because he is the new guardian of the Shikon no Tama. It isn’t a jewel anymore. It’s him,” she whispered.
InuYasha grabbed her shoulders and held her away from him. “You’re just now telling me?”
“I’m sorry. I didn’t know how to tell you. Taro is special. I believe he also has spiritual powers; because of that, and the fact that he has youki as well, he is balanced, and the jewel’s power is masked,” Kagome told him. “I was going to tell you. I just knew it would upset you, and I wanted us to be happy for a little while first.”
“Don’t be sorry,” he said, pulling her to him.
“I really think it’ll be okay, though,” Kagome offered. “Since we can’t even sense the power in him, no one else should be able too, either.”
“Keh, even if they do, it won’t matter,” InuYasha snorted. “He has us to protect him.”
Since Taro did not tire as quickly as a normal child would, they made good progress, and it would not take more than three days to return home. They were still a day from the village when InuYasha stopped abruptly and drew his sword.
“Mama?” Taro questioned.
“Be quiet and stay close to your mother,” InuYasha said.
“Do you know what it is?” Kagome asked.
“Whatever it is, it fucking reeks of human blood,” InuYasha replied.
The first sound that reached them was the crashing of trees as they were knocked down by the towering moss colored oni. Kagome wrapped one arm around Taro as he clung to her leg. He buried his face against her in order to block out the putrid stench of the monster.
InuYasha held one sleeve up over his face as the youkai stepped out in front of them.
“Give me the human woman, and flee, half breed,” the oni demanded.
“I don’t think so, you smelly bastard. Now quit talking, so I can hurry up and kick your ass,” InuYasha yelled.
The oni lunged at InuYasha, and he jumped into the air, swinging the Tetsusaiga around. Moving faster than he looked like he would be capable of, the oni was able to dodge InuYasha’s strike, and swing a large clawed fist around, knocking InuYasha into the trees.
Kagome pushed Taro out of the way as the youkai grabbed for her. He squeezed her tightly and she cried out. Taro watched in horror as the beast brought his mother toward its mouth. He could hear his father coming, but it was clear that he couldn’t make it in time. With a wince Taro drove his claws into his arm and threw out his hand.
“Hijinkessou,” he yelled.
Purple blades of light and power made of both his youki and his spiritual energy flew out, striking the oni in the stomach and legs. The human eating youkai flung his mother away with a roar, as he began to purify slowly. Taro watched as his mother’s body sailed through the air, only to be caught by his father.
Both InuYasha and Kagome watched as the oni disintegrated into nothing. Taro ran over to join them. He didn’t understand the way his father was looking at him.
“Papa, are you mad at me?” he asked.
InuYasha looked at his son. “Why would I be mad at you? You saved your mother.”
“I used my Hijinkessou, after I promised I wouldn’t,” Taro replied.
“I remember you promising not to use it unless you had to,” InuYasha told him. “Protecting your mother is a good enough reason for me.”
InuYasha carried Kagome and Taro, and because of it, they made it home by nightfall. Kagome put Taro to bed and returned to the room she and InuYasha shared. She slipped off her robe and heard InuYasha growling softly. As soon a she lay down, he pulled her flush against him and gave her behind a gentle squeeze.
Kagome moaned softly. “Inu...wait.”
He stopped and looked at her. “What’s wrong? I’ve missed you. It’s been almost two weeks. Haven’t you missed me?”
“It’s not that... Just, we need to wait a few minutes for Taro to fall asleep,” she replied.
He pouted, but relented and settled for holding her. He kissed her languidly as he waited for her to let him know that she was ready for more, which was getting to be nearly impossible. Her scent grew heavier, and sweeter, by the minute, and it was filling his senses to the exclusion of everything else.
“K’gome...” he groaned, tearing his lips from hers. He ground his painfully hard arousal against her.
InuYasha gasped as a small hand wrapped around him and slid along his length. He couldn’t help but buck his hips as she continued to stroke him.
Kagome began to place feather light kisses along his chest, and followed them with soft nips against his taut skin. She urged him onto his back and continued her assault on his senses. When her mouth closed over him, he bit down hard on his lip to keep from crying out.
He grabbed her head, trying to pull her away, so that he wouldn’t finish too soon. She raised her head and looked at him as she continued to pleasure him with her hand.
“Too much,” he panted. “I can’t...”
“Then don’t,” she told him, taking him into her mouth again.
With her hands on his hips, she encouraged him to thrust into her mouth. When he reached his release, she waited until she was sure that she had accepted all he had to offer before leaving him. She lay down beside him and rolled over, her back against his chest. She was surprised to feel that he was still more than ready.
His lips brushed over her shoulder and he nipped softly at her skin. InuYasha pressed himself against her, holding her with his hand on her hip. “What about you, my mate? Just tell me what you want. How can I please you?” His hand slipped down between her legs and rubbed her gently.
Kagome pressed back against him hard as she moaned softly. She reached behind her and gripped him, lining him up to enter her from behind. “Would you take me this way?” she asked.
“That’s what you want?” he replied. She nodded.
InuYasha pushed into her slowly, as she pressed her body back against him. She gasped as he stretched her, moving back and forth entering her a little more deeply with each thrust.
“Am I hurting you?” InuYasha asked at her soft whimpers.
“No.. Ahh... Don’t stop,” she moaned as he pressed into her.
Finally he was fully inside of her. “Fuck...” He began thrusting gently into her.
“Harder...faster, please,” she begged.
Kagome slid one hand down between her legs as InuYasha pumped into her. It didn’t take long for her to reach her peak and her body tensed. InuYasha groaned, biting down softly on the back of her neck as she tightened further around him, and spilled himself inside her. As he slipped out of her, he lapped at the back of her neck, sealing the small puncture marks his fangs had made. He watched as they changed into a jagged line, resembling the ones that appeared on his cheeks when he was in full youkai form.
“InuYasha?” Kagome said quietly.
“Yeah,” he replied.
“You... you don’t...” Kagome started. Are you sure you want to ask him? Could you stand it if he says yes? “Never mind.”
InuYasha could smell her anxiety. “Kagome, what’s bothering you, and don’t say nothing, ‘cause I can smell it.”
She sighed. “Are you disgusted with me for wanting to do that? Do you think I’m strange or perverted for liking it?”
“I could never think that about you. I would try anything at least once to please you, and I know you would be willing to do the same for me,” InuYasha replied. “Why would you even think to ask that?”
“He did,” she whispered.
InuYasha growled a little and rolled over onto his back. “Kagome, he was a bastard, and I wish you’d quit fucking comparing me to him. It’s bad enough knowing that another man touched you, without knowing exactly what you two did together.”
Kagome bit back a sob and got out of the bed. She pulled on her robe. “I’m going to check on Taro.”
InuYasha looked at her back. Fuck, you asshole. Did you have to say it like that? She already told you that she felt like she had betrayed you, and she was just looking to you for reassurance as your mate. You could have told her that it was also the final step in mating her, and that you had been afraid to ask her because you were worried about her reaction. “Kagome...”
She ignored him and slid the shoji shut as she left the room. She fought off her tears as she went into Taro’s room and watched her son sleeping. She knelt beside him and brushed the hair off his face, before curling up behind him like she used to when he kicked her out of their room for failing to satisfy him as a wife should.
You knew he felt that way, didn’t you... Deep down you knew that he felt betrayed, even if he never said it... and it’s true, isn’t it. He could have had Kikyou, but he didn’t, he wouldn’t, his honor wouldn’t allow him to, but you... you crawled into the bed of the first guy who wanted you when you returned... and still he took you back into his life, accepted you. You don’t deserve him....
I know...
Kagome couldn’t stop her tears and it woke Taro.
Taro was surprised to wake and find his mother beside him. Since his father had come to stay with them, even when they were off visiting, his mother hadn’t once come to sleep with him, and she hadn’t cried unhappy tears either. He sniffed her for any sign that she was injured, but found none. The only thing he could smell on her was his father, and that wasn’t wrong. He would have heard his mother if his father had been hurting her while they were alone in their room. He never told his mother, but he always knew when he was doing bad things to her in their room.
InuYasha stopped outside his son’s door as he heard Kagome’s quiet crying. He rested his head against the wall, not knowing what he was going to do or say to make her forgive him.
“Mama...Why are you crying?” Taro asked. “Did papa do something?”
“No, baby,” Kagome said sadly. “I did something bad and I hurt your papa. I’m really sorry for what I did, and that’s why I’m crying.”
Taro sat up and hugged his mother. “Then tell papa. I know he’ll forgive you, if you say you’re sorry. You always forgive me. Please mama. I like it here. You’re happy. You haven’t cried at all since papa brought us here. I don’t want you to be sad all the time again.”
“I don’t know if what I did is something anyone could forgive, baby,” Kagome told him.
The door slid open and Kagome looked up. InuYasha was standing there, eyes shining, and Kagome was surprised to see that he looked almost like he was going to cry. Taro turned around.
“Papa, you can forgive mama right...If she’s really sorry,” he asked.
InuYasha shook his head and Kagome choked on her tears. “I can’t forgive your mama, because there is nothing she needs to be sorry for. She didn’t do anything wrong.”
“See, mama,” Taro offered. “Papa’s not mad at you, so don’t cry anymore okay?”
Kagome just stared up at InuYasha. He stepped into the room and reached out his hand. After a long minute, Kagome took it and he pulled her to her feet.
“Go back to sleep. Everything is fine now,” InuYasha said.
“Goodnight, papa, mama,” Taro replied.
Kagome kept her eyes on the floor as InuYasha guided her back to their room with his arm around her waist. He slid the door shut behind them and wrapped his arms around her. “Forgive me. I was an asshole.”
She shook her head. “It’s me. This is all my fault. I was with someone else. Maybe... Mama would let me stay with her.”
InuYasha grabbed her shoulders. “You better not be saying what I think you are, bitch.”
“I wouldn’t take Taro,” she said quickly. “He’s your son... As long as I could still see him sometimes.”
Kagome was cut off as her body was pinned to the wall by InuYasha. His claws were digging into the wood on either side of her head. She could feel the fury radiating off of him.
“Maybe you humans take the easy way out, leaving your mates just because everything ain’t perfect all the time, but I ain’t human. I waited five years for you, five years thinking about how badly I wanted to touch you again, to taste you, to hold you in my arms. Five long, lonely years, Kagome, of not having you by my side,” InuYasha told her. His voice strained as he tried to reign in his anger. “I won’t let you leave me again. Do you hear me? I can’t...”
“Why? Why do you still want me with you?” Kagome asked.
“When you told me that even though you were with another man that your heart had remained true to me, I knew you were telling the truth; not because I can smell a lie, but because his scent was not part of your own,” InuYasha told her. “Humans, devoted humans, mark their mates. Of course they don’t have youki to leave a visible symbol, but their scents will combine. Sango carries Miroku’s scent as part of her own, and not just on her as she would if she hadn’t accepted him as her true mate. That bastard’s scent was on you, but after a few days it was completely gone, as if he had never even been with you, and mine took it’s place. My scent stayed with you for five years, proof that even though I hadn’t bound us with my youki, that you considered me the mate of your heart. I want you with me, Kagome. I always have. Do you really want to leave?”
Kagome shook her head. “No, I want to be with you.”
His hands left the wall and wrapped around her. “I wasn’t being a very good mate to you earlier. You only wanted me to reassure you, to help heal you, from what that bastard did to you. Forgive me?”
“I don’t need to forgive you. You didn’t do anything wrong either,” she told him.
“What I should have said earlier, was that what you asked for was nothing that I hadn’t thought about doing. In fact, we needed to be together like that to finish the mating ritual. I was putting off asking you because I was worried about what you would think,” InuYasha said.
“Really?” Kagome asked.
“I wouldn’t lie to you,” he replied. “Now, come to bed. It’s late and you’re tired.”

Kagome could see the exterminators’ village in the distance. She could hardly wait to see Sango, Miroku and Shippou again. As they approached, a tall boy with a bushy tail stopped playing with a young girl close to Taro’s age.“It can’t be,” Kagome whispered as bright green eyes met her own.
“I know; it’s fucked up, ain’t it. About two years ago he was the same runt you remember, and I come back six moons later and he had grown up,” InuYasha said.

They remained at the exterminators’ village for nearly a week, so that Kagome could help out while Sango recovered. Taro spent most of his time playing with Kimi and Shippou, and InuYasha helped Miroku with some of the more difficult work that needed to be done. They left with the promise to return for another visit soon.Since Taro did not tire as quickly as a normal child would, they made good progress, and it would not take more than three days to return home.
