Chapter 1~The Beginning!!

The palace of Lord Himato was in an uproar. Lord Himato had just announced what he had in plan for one of his daughters, but being the loving father he was, he was trying to give his girls a choice, instead of choosing, but if his girls did not come through, then he would be forced to do the choosing and he just did not relish that idea. As it was his wife was not on his side and giving him grief as well.

"How can you ask this of our daughters Sanji? Asked his wife with anger and disbelief, as the two eldest of his three daughter argued and cried their outrage.

"You know the treaty wife, and it is time..how can you disapprove of this anyhow since the lady Izoyi was your own sister?" asked the lord. The mention of his wife's step sister did not make an impact, if anything it made it worse.

"HALF SISTER!" she shouted in anger and disgust.

"Her father married my mother, Izoyi and I share no blood." she added to make sure all knew she was not blood related to the female she despised the most.

"But if her father had not married your mother you would not be the lady of this great palace now." Lord Himato stated with a slight sneer. Sometimes his wife could be cruel and spoiled as well as mean.

"All would have been well had she not soiled herself and fell in love with a demon…she was not worthy to be called a Lady of this noble house and in the end she payed for it with her life?" she replied with venom. Sometimes Himato wondered what he had ever seen in this woman.

"Regardless wife, the treaty is almost at its end and if we do not follow through with our part of the treaty then we shall loose the protection of the demon Lord of the Western Lands." stated Himato

"What Lord? A half breed? A mongrel who should not even hold such a title? He is a nothing? Worse than nothing, he is a hanyou." his wife stated.

"SILENCE! Regardless of who our lord is, the treaty demands that he wed a daughter of our house for continued protection, if not then we shall befall the wrath of many other demons and bandits who would relish the thought of pillaging our lands without interferance from the Western Lord…must I choose or will one of you volunteer?" the lord asked. His eldest daughter Kikyo and Kagurqa looked at him with distain and disgust. He sighed and was about to render a decision when he heard a timid but sweet voice.

"I shall do it father…I shall marry the half breed lord of the Western Lands and preserve the safty and the treaty with the mighty lord." came the voice of Himato's youngest child Kagome, his favorite for she was not like her sisters, materialistic and spoiled. Kagome had a big heart and trusting soul. He of all his daughters hated to see her in unfamiliar hands.

"What did you say?" asked Kagome's mother. She blushed but held her head up high.

"I said I will do as father has requested, if it is the only means to keep peace in the village and keep the treaty intact then I will marry the Lord of the Western Lands." stated Kagome with resolve. She would do anything to help her father and her people, even if it meant marring a man she did not know, and a half demon to boot.
"You would do it." replied her oldest sister Kikyo with spite.

"Better her than one of us sister, I could never hold my head up high if I was forced to marry such a beast." came Kagomes second sisters voice Kagura.

"You can not be serious daughter? Why would you wish to marry such a man? To bind yourself to such a beast?" came the voice of her mother. Kagome wasn't fooled, off all her daughters Kagome knew she was not her mother favorite, but she at least hoped that her mothers concern was real.

"Would you rather it be Kikyo or Kagura mother? For it is custom for the eldest to wed first?" asked Kagome, already knowing her mothers answer, even as her face made a sour expression upon it. Kagome was no fool, she knew that Kikyo and Kagura were her favorite children.

"Regardless of how I feel, why would YOU subject yourself to such an outrage? To such an abomination?" her mother asked.

"Because father asked for a volunteer and because I want what is best for this family as well as our village." replied Kagome bravely. Her mother was about to outrage more, but before she could her father cut in.

"You my youngest…you are the bravest of my children and my most beloved, if I could keep you from this I would but as you said, it must be done in order to preserve our way of life and the safety of our people…but are you sure of this my lotus flower?" Himato asked, using his pet name for his youngest and most beloved of children. This affection did not go unnoticed by her sisters or her mother, all loathing her for being daddy's favorite.

"I am sure father…it is what a dutiful daughter should and would do and I will do what ever it takes to insure the safety of this family and our people." stated Kagome, not blind to the viscious looks and heated eyes she was receiving from her sisters. She did not catch the veiled look of disgust on her mothers face though.

"Inuyasya?" came the timid shy voice of a young girl, as Inu laid in his bed thinking of the days to come.

"What is it Kanna?" Inu asked his younger sister, who crawled into bed with him at the sound of his voice. She was such a quiet child and so shy. She often found comfort in sleeping in her big brothers bed.

Inuyasha was still at awe how his sister could look so human yet so much like their father. She had their mothers face, most of her features were all human except for her hair and compextion. That she had in common with him and their father. Her hair was silvery white as his was, as their fathers, her complextion pale and milky white as Inuyasha's himself, like their fathers, but that's where the similarities ended. Inuyasha had a human form in most ways but he did have claws for finger nails, fangs and amber gold eyes like his father. Unlike Kanna he was not blessed with either his fathers ears or his mothers human ones, his were ontop of his head, like dog ears and made him stand out the most as the hanyou he was. The people at the palace were loyal and accepted him and Kanna well enough, but there were many who would not. Human and demon alike and that is where his thoughts were now. He would soon have to marry a princess from the human lords family whom he had protected thus far, to his fathers wishes and a written treaty. Soon the treaty would be over and per his fathers wish, he wanted it renewed, with the marriage of him and one of the current lords daughters. He guessed he could of refused, if it were not for that pesky little loop hole that stated that if he refused he would loose his title and his kingdom, leaving it to Kanna and the old demon lord of the North whom his father had chosen as Kanna's intended if Inuyasha failed his wishes. That made Inu mad. Kanna was but a child. Ok a demon child who aged slowly and was about twenty years old but in demon years only about ten. How could his father expect her to marry a man who was hundreds of years old and looked to be about forty? Inu would not allow this, not even at the cost of his own happiness. He did not want to wed anyone let alone a human but he would do it to protect his little sister.

"Why are you still up big brother?" Kanna asked as she cuddled up to her big brothers as she was want to do. He held her close and smiled.

"Why are you still up?" he countered with a grin.

"Are you scared Inu?" Kanna asked with wisdom.

"Why would I be scared?"

"Because it is almost time…….time for you to take your bride….a human bride."

"And why would that scare me little sister?"

"Because I would be afraid if I had to marry someone I didn't know…a stranger…..they might be mean and cruel….they might hate hanyou's" came his sisters reply, as well as her fears. His heart went out to her and only made his resolve stronger. He would not let his sister be subject to Naraku, the cruel and hateful Lord of the North. The man who would be her husband if he failed in his duty to his father and his title.
