“Why… why won't it work?” Both Mika and Inuyasha were dumbfounded. The attack they had before watched destroy Kikyo was now refusing to work. “Having problems? Well, you'll have plenty of time to figure out what went wrong once you're dead.” Sesshomaru pulled out Tokyjin, ready to battle. Mika, still slightly in a daze by what had just occurred, or rather, not occurred, pulled out her busted katana. “I don't know why my attack didn't work, but it doesn't matter. I can still beat you, even with my broken sword.” “Mika, don't do it. You can't beat him without the udewa's magic!” “Thanks for the confidence, Inuyasha.” As Mika raised her katana to attack, her udewa began to glow brightly in her hand. The charm flew out of her hand and attached itself to the sword. Suddenly, the katana began to change shape. The katana blade grew larger and became whole. It glowed a brilliant blue to match Mika's eyes, with violet streaks down the side of it. Suddenly, a voice rang out for the three of them to hear. The voice, seemingly female, said this. “If you must fight, my children, then fight fair. No help from Inutaisho's other son. Just my own children, no others.” “Mother,” both Mika and Sesshomaru whispered. Mika looked down at her newly formed blade, and said, “Rika, let's fight him together.”

And soon, the fight began. Inuyasha did not interfere, in respect of Rika's wishes. Mika swung the new blade at Sesshomaru, but to no avail. “What are its attacks? Kami, Rika, Yuki, help me.” Suddenly, the words came out of Mika's mouth before she even had time to think. “Crystal Hex!” The blade glowed a deep blue and flung itself at Sesshomaru. It pierced him deep in his right leg. Emotionless as always, Sesshomaru pulled the sword from his wound and threw it to the ground. Instantly, it returned to Mika's outstretched hand. “We shall continue this fight at a later date. Until then, farewell wretched hanyou.” Sesshomaru then leapt up into the air and landed on Ah-Un's back, where Rin and Jaken were waiting for him. As the two hanyou watched them fly away, “Come on, Inuyasha. Let's take Shippo and Kirara to the cave. I think we all need some time to heal. Physically and emotionally.”

At the cave, Shippo sobbed loudly. “Miroku and Sango are both gone! And Kagome's been kidnapped! And it's all Inuyasha's fault!” “Shippo, hush. I know you feel like you need someone to blame right now, but Inuyasha isn't it. If anyone, blame Naraku.” Shippo sniffed, “Okay, Mika. I'll blame Naraku.” Mika sat cross-legged holding the crying kitsune. At the same time, she absentmindedly stroked Kirara. Inuyasha sat further back in the cave, doing some grieving of his own. “Kagome, why the hell did you just stand there? Why didn't you move out of the way? Did Miroku and Sango's death really shake you that much? And now you've been kidnapped by that bitch, Kagura and I have no idea where the hell you are! Damn it all!” He said this all quietly, but Mika, with her inu-senses, could still hear every word. “So, he does love Kagome more than me. I guess I should have expected this from the beginning.” Mika stood up slowly, careful not to wake Shippo, who had cried himself to sleep in her arms. She set him down next to Kirara and walked back to Inuyasha.

Mika sat down next to him and laid her head on his shoulder. Responding to the sudden warmth on his shoulder, Inuyasha shook slightly. “Inuyasha, I'm so sorry. I… I would say I know how you feel, but, honestly, I really don't. I mean, I watched my father being killed before my eyes. I watched countless villagers being slain for no reason whatsoever. And…” Mika sighed, not believing what she was about to admit. “I myself killed many villagers once in a fit of rage. I… I guess none of those things could ever compare to what you went through today. Again, Inuyasha, I'm sorry.” Mika then stood to leave, but felt a hand grasp her ankle. “Sit down, Mika.” Mika, slightly shocked, did as instructed. “Mika… I know you've had a horrible life. I have too. That's just the way it is for us half-demons. Hated by all, excepted by none. Btu, Kagome and the others, they truly accepted me the way I was. And, once, Kagome even told me that she liked me as a half-demon and hoped I would stay that way forever. Not even Kikyo was that caring, always wanting me to become human. They were the first humans, aside from my mother, that liked me just the way I was. I guess that's why I feel so horrible about what happened today.” Mika smiled slightly and snuggled closer to him. “I know, Inuyasha. It's okay. You have a right to be sad. And, once you feel up to it, we'll go out and try to find Kagome. But, for now, let's just enjoy the time we have together, okay.” Inuyasha, too, smiled and held Mika tight, wishing this moment could last forever.
