Back at the cave, Mika and Inuyasha were allowing Kagome to get some rest. Shippo was curled up on the floor next to Kirara, both sleeping peacefully. Inuyasha laid back against the hard stonewall, thinking. “What the hell do I do? I need to make a decision. Once Kagome is well again, I'll have to choose. I can't hurt Kagome, but I don't want to hurt Mika either. What the hell am I supposed to do?” Inuyasha sighed and closed his eyes. Mika who'd been lying near Shippo, decided to make her move. Slowly, she sauntered over to Inuyasha and sat down beside him, leaning her head on his broad shoulder. Inuyasha opened one eye and put his arm around Mika. “Kagome and I were never this close, were we? Half the time, all she did was `sit' me. But, then again, Kagome did risk her life for me more times than I can count. Mika and I are so alike, but Kagome still cares for me, despite what I am. I've never even really kissed Kagome, save at Kaguya's castle. Mika is truly caring and she's been through a lot. Then again, I suppose Kagome has had her share of problems. I just wish I knew what to do.” Mika looked at Inuyasha's amber eyes, ones that seemed lost in thought. “Inuyasha?” “Yeah, Mika?” “Don't worry about it.” “Huh? About what?” “Choosing. You don't have to worry about that now. For now, let's concentrate on Kagome's recovery.” Inuyasha smiled at her. “She knew what I was thinking. Maybe we're a lot closer than I thought.”
After a few days, Kagome's condition had not varied much. Shippo was crying constantly and Inuyasha seemed extremely worried. “Why isn't she getting better? It's been three days and she hasn't even begun to heal? Why the hell is she still like this?!” Mika put her hand on his shoulder. “Because she's human, Inuyasha, not hanyou. It will take her a long time to heal from wounds this great. I think…” Mika hesitated, not knowing how Inuyasha would react, “maybe we should take Kaede's advice now.” “No! No way in hell! I am not going to beg for Sesshomaru's help!” Mika sighed. “We don't have to beg , Inuyasha. Heck, we don't even have to ask Sesshomaru at all.” “Whaddya mean?” Mika smiled slyly. “Well, think about it. Our youkai lord, Fluffy, has a soft spot for a certain young girl named Rin. He saved her life with Tenseiga. I bet, if we tell Rin what happened, she'll be the one begging Sesshomaru to help.” Inuyasha turned to face Mika. He ran his hand through her violet hair and put his lips to hers. As they parted, he whispered in her ear. “You're a genius, Mika.”
Mika leapt off, following Sesshomaru's scent. She had agreed to talk to Rin while Inuyasha stayed and looked after Kagome. “Vanilla, lemon, and a hint of…lilac? Wow, Sesshomaru has a really odd scent. Oh well. Now to find Rin.” Mika saw the youkai lord and hopped into a nearby tree. She decided to listen in on the conversation he was having. “Jaken, how many times must I tell you not to leave Rin unguarded?” “B…but, Lord Sesshomaru, Rin forbade me to stay, and you always tell me to respect her wishes.” “Yes, Jaken, but I have authority over her. You follow my orders first, understand?” “Yes, my lord.” Mika giggled and leapt off a few feet. There, she spied a young girl picking flowers. “There she is!” Mika hopped down and walked over to Rin. “Hello, little girl. Might you be the one they call Rin?” Rin looked up and smiled at Mika. “Yes, I am. Are you a friend of Lord Sesshomaru?” “Yes. Actually, I am his older sister, Mika. Listen, I have something very important to tell you. You know of Inuyasha, Sesshomaru's little brother, correct?” “Yes, I know a lot about him.” “Good. Well, the girl who travels with him, Kagome, is really injured. She lost tons of blood and she may not live much longer.” “Oh no! That's awful. Is there anything I can do?” “Actually, there is. The sword Sesshomaru carries, the Tenseiga, has the power to heal Kagome. I need you to convince Sesshomaru to help her. Can you do that, Rin?” Rin nodded. “Yes. Wait right here please, Lady Mika. I'll go ask him.” “Hey, Rin? One more thing.” “Yes, Lady Mika?” “Please don't tell Sesshomaru my name. I'm not exactly his favorite sibling.” Rin nodded again. “I can do that. I'll be right back. Promise.” Mika smiled as Rin dropped her flowers and ran off to find Sesshomaru. “She's a cute kid. No wonder Sesshomaru cares about her.”
