~~Chapter 4: Chance Luck~~
“If Kagome isn't going, neither am I.” Hojo stated as he wrapped a protective arm around Kagome's shoulder. “And, of course, vise versa.”
Kagome sighed as she grabbed her soda, taking a sip of it. Eri, Yuka, and Ayumi giggled. “They announce the students tomorrow.” Eri said as she stuck a fry in to her mouth. “You think Kagome or any of us will get chosen?”
Ayumi nodded. “Of course Yuka will get chosen. She's a walking encyclopedia.”
Kagome giggled. “I don't doubt that.”
Yuka giggled. “I only would like to go because we'd get to see that hunk Morikami-san.”
Eri nodded eagerly. “The one from the lecture, right?” Yuka nodded. “Oh yes! He was so handsome! If the other two owners of Taishou Inc are just as handsome, I think I'll faint!”
The girls giggled. Hojo rolled his eyes. “I'm sure we'll all go. Kagome, my mother would like if you came to dinner in my house tonight.”
`Talking about InuYasha? Pfft! He took me to the carnival. They've been ogling him also!'
`Jealous much, Kagome?' The voice sighed. `Well, answer Hojo.'
`Wha---oh right!'
Kagome shook her head, catching a piece of bread crumb on the front of her uniform blouse. “I can't Hojo. My mother is leaving town when I get back from school. I have to take care of Souta.”
Hojo narrowed his eyes. “You disappoint me, Kagome.” He whispered in her ear. She gulped. “We'll talk later.”
She stuck a fry in her mouth before she said anything. `Stop being such a coward. Are you honestly afraid of Hojo?'
`N-No…'
`Then! You shouldn't take that from him. Listen to me on this one, there's something about Hojo you can't put your finger on…it should have been over the moment he disrespected you.'
`B-But---`
`Oh Kami, you are afraid of him! Are you kidding me? Kick him in the balls and be done with it!'
Kagome chocked on the fry she was trying to eat. Hojo thumped her back a little harder than she would've liked. She shot him a dark glare only to have a dark glare returned right back to her. `W-Who are you? `kick him in the balls' Wh-What is that?'
`It's basic self defense against a male. If your foot can reach it, kick it, and run. He'll be down for a few minutes…'
The voice inside her head laughed. Kagome rolled her eyes. “Oh! Let's get going. We'll be late.”
Ayumi stood up and everyone else followed. The three girls chatted away while Kagome and Hojo walked behind them. Hojo held her around her waist against him. Kagome sighed. “Why don't you talk with them?”
“I-I'm thinking….”
Hojo snorted. “You're distant lately Kagome. It stared that day that lecturer came. What did you do when we left anyway?”
Kagome shrugged. “I just asked him a few questions on his song. Nothing earth shattering, you know.”
Hojo nodded. “I didn't think so. After all, you do belong with me.”
`Ka-go-me! If I had any say in your body movements, Hojo would be in the hospital by now. Baka!' “D-Don't say that, Hojo.”
His hand pinched her side. She yelped. “Hojo! That hurt!”
Hojo snorted, leaned down to brush a kiss over her cheek. “Kagome, you do belong with me.”
Kagome frowned. Before she could contain herself, she reached for Hojo, her hand smacking across his face. `Score! That's my girl!' The sting on her hand was nothing compared to the complete satisfaction she felt from slapping Hojo. She frowned, jogging away from him and in to the school. She sped in to her classroom when the bell rang.
Hojo scowled, his cool hand pressing against the hot sting Kagome's hand left. `Just you wait Kagome…'

`Oh Kami, I just slapped Hojo!' Kagome blinked, trying to dispel the memory.
`Oh yeah you did!'
`Be quiet! He's going to be s-o-o-o-o mad'
`I'm sure he will be. Next time, hit him in the b---`
`Focus please. Gotta finish this sketch to show Maru-sensei on Wednesday.'
The voice sighed, but stayed quiet. She drew a line from flare of the skirt she was designing, making it look wavy. She placed a few notes on the colors to the side before moving on to note the shirt and the jacket over the drawn model. She didn't pay attention as the teacher spoke about the chosen students for the trip on Wednesday.
Taishou Inc selected their high school to take exactly fifteen students to tour around the company. The fifteen students would then be divided in to groups of five, each spending with one of the three owners of Taishou Inc. The fifteen students were picked from the top students in the school. Eighteen were picked, fifteen to go, and three back up in case anyone dropped out or couldn't go. The students would be told who got the honor of stepping in to Taishou Inc tomorrow morning.
And while Kagome really wanted to go, her mind was currently concentrated on the sketches she had in front of her. Maru-sensei was the school counselor. Kagome had approached her for recommendations in to the University of Tokyo for the design department. Maru-san had told her that she wanted to see a portfolio and then she'd see if Kagome had talent enough to show it to the teachers of the design department. Kagome was working her hardest to impress Maru-sensei.
`And the other `something' you want is to see Morikami-san. You're dying to get chosen to go to his company…he'd surely pick you to be in his group. Maybe he'll even leave Hojo, if you asked him to.'
Kagome frowned, starting to draw the face of a new model on her sketch pad. `Why would I do that? If InuYasha wants me to be in his team, fine…it's not in my power to dictate who he chooses.'
`Of course not. But I bet he'd choose you. After all, he did take us out on Saturday. Maybe Wednesday, he'll want us to do something with him after the tour or something.'
`That's wishful thinking.' Kagome bit her lip. She managed to sketch two designs by the time the bell rung. She stood up, gathered her things, and went out to meet her friends.
“Kagome!” Eri smiled widely at her. Kagome smiled back, making her way towards the trio of girls. “You have to go home, Kagome?”
She nodded. “Yeah.” Her friends started walking with her down the street.
“I hope we really get chosen to go to Taishou Inc. It would be so much fun to see those owners. Maybe flirt a little.”
Yuka sighed. “Don't think so. In my computer class, I did a bit of research of Inutaisho, Morikami, and Taka. Inutaisho-san is married. And so is Taka-san. Only Morikami-san isn't married and since there isn't much information about them, I don't even know if that's correct.”
“What?” Ayumi complained. “That's a disappointment. Well, at least Morikami-san is still a bachelor.”
They giggled wildly at the thought of `Morikami-san'. Kagome chuckled. `InuYasha wouldn't be married would he?'
`I doubt it. If he took you to the carnival and even almost kissed you…nah.'
`That could have been my imagination'
`Highly debatable'
Kagome waved goodbye to her friends as she raced up the stairs. She wanted to put as much distance between her and Hojo for as long as possible. At least he hadn't sought her out after school.
`Maybe slapping Hojo was a very bad idea. Why do I get the feeling he's going to burst next time he sees me?'
::*::*::*::* ::*::*::*::* ::*::*::*::* ::*::*::*::* ::*::*::*::* ::*::*::*::*
“Wow! I cannot believe all of us got chosen! This is going to be so much fun!” Yuka bounced on her chair. Kagome gave her a small smile and looked out the window. Yuka, Eri, Ayumi, Hojo, and herself were all going on the trip to Taishou Inc. Hojo was sitting besides her on the bus, his arm wrapped around her shoulders.
He had been nice enough to her. He didn't comment on what she slapped him on Monday at all. He just pretended it never happened, but Kagome knew better. She had a feeling Hojo hadn't forgotten at all her slap across his face. She sighed.
Early in the morning, she had shown up to Maru-sensei's office and shown her the portfolio with thirteen designs inside. Maru-sensei had congratulated Kagome and said she'd work on getting her an application for the design department of the university as soon as possible. Kagome had taken her sketch pad and folder to Taishou Inc because she had no where to put it. The ride wasn't too long. The bus came to a halt and the fifteen students filed out.
`Excited?'
`Oh yeah'
`Me too.'
Kagome went a few paces ahead of Hojo and hooked her arm with Ayumi's. The girls chatted and giggled. Hojo rolled his eyes as he stared at his girlfriend.
They entered the lobby of the very large company and right there, the tree owners were standing. The head-mistress had them line up horizontally in front of the three men. One that had InuYasha's coloring stepped forward.
“My name is Inutaisho, Sesshoumaru.” He introduced. “Welcome to Taishou Inc.”
Sesshoumaru, same height as InuYasha, was dressed in a black suit. His long silvery hair flowed behind him and his stoic---yet beautiful---face look around the students.
“I'm Morikami, InuYasha. I'm the architect of the company.” InuYasha looked a little less professional than Sesshoumaru. He had gray suit pants with a white button down shirt and no tie. His golden eyes landed on Kagome who flushed. Hojo did notice her flush and Morikami's gaze.
“And I'm Taka, Kouga.” The third spoke up. This one looked as professional as Sesshoumaru. Only his suit was a pin-strip black suit. His black hair was held up in a high ponytail and his sapphire eyes made Kagome gasp.
“---I'm Kouga and Ayame's daughter---”
Aki's words came back in to her head. `Is this Aki's father?'
`He does have those eyes Aki has. Maybe her mother has red hair…'
`W-Whoa…talk about creepy. Why did Aki tell me her parents' name?'
She held her folder and pad against her chest. The dividing was simple enough. InuYasha, Sesshoumaru, and Kouga picked out the ones they wanted. InuYasha---much to Kagome's joy and Hojo's suspicions---picked her first. He also picked Ayumi and three others. Hojo was chosen by Kouga, much to Kagome's happiness. She didn't have to worry about Hojo being there and making her feel like he was going to lash out at any moment.
“Follow me,” InuYasha muttered. The five of them followed InuYasha, going to up to the thirty-seventh floor. When the elevator doors opened, they saw the busy people around the floor. InuYasha sighed.
“Floors thirty through thirty-nine are all my part of this company. I manage the clients that want anything built. I draw it out, present it, and if they like it, they get it. On each floor, there is a different architect. The jobs that I receive get passed to them if I have to many jobs. They draw it out and show it to me first before the client. I'm the boss here and I approve everything that gets built. On other floors, still part of my division of the company, they choose the colors of the houses or buildings we design. I create, design, and place everything inside with my workers. That's what I do here at Taishou Inc. Oh, and if computers need fixing, I do that to.”
Kagome looked around to see different offices and secretaries doing their job. InuYasha sighed. “Feel free to look around. You've got an two hours to tour around the building, but you have to be back right here at noon. Okay?”
They nodded and went their separate ways. Kagome walked around, looking around and seeing InuYasha smile at her and go in to his office. She started to the door when someone bumped in to her. She squealed and dropped her portfolio, her sketch pad falling wide open.
“Oh dear, I'm so sorry!” The woman picked up her stuff as Kagome tried to get up. She looked at the woman before her. Magenta eyes stared back and then to her sketch pad. `Whoa! She's got magenta eyes…'
“It's okay…I seem to be bumping in to people a lot lately.” Kagome muttered. The woman laughed.
“My name is Inutaisho, Kagura.” She supplied. “You know, these are very good.” She looked at Kagome.
“Inutaisho? Like Sesshoumaru?”
Kagura nodded, not looking up from leafing through Kagome's sketches. “I'm his wife.”
“Oh…I'm Higurashi Kagome.” She said, reaching out for her sketch pad. Kagura let her take it.
“Well, Kagome, you've got talent. Be sure to keep in touch. We might need someone like you.”
“You design also?”
Kagura shook her head. “If we had a talent, we could. Unfortunately, the three bakas that own this company don't think we should invest in the design industry.” Her gaze flickered towards InuYasha's office. “Pity really. You're on the tour with the school?”
“Y-Yes.”
“Oh, well. That's Morikami's office. Go in, I'm sure he isn't doing anything productive.”
“O-Okay…” Kagome grabbed her things and Kagura pointed to where Kagome was headed anyway.

The meeting with Takenawa had gone as smooth as ever. The client had approved of InuYasha's design in a heartbeat, much to InuYasha's joy because he didn't have the patience to deal with people that complained. He sighed, dropping the pencil on his desk.
“I-InuYasha…”
Kagome poked her head inside. InuYasha grinned. “Come in Kagome.”
She closed the door behind her, leaned against it with a bashful smile. His diplomas hung around the office. A leather couch was to her far right and his big cherry oak desk was in front of a very large window. Bookshelves with books and folders were settled to her left. She shook her head. “Nice office.”
She strolled over towards him, dropping her portfolio on his desk. His name was etched on to a golden plate that was on the edge of his desk. “You can sit down, Kagome, I won't bite.”
She clucked her tongue before sitting on one of the two chairs in front of his desk. He leaned back against his chair. “I told you it wouldn't be long until you saw me again.”
She smiled. “I guess not.”
“So, I hoped you really did have fun on Saturday.” He played with his pencil, spinning the point against his desk. `We should take her out again.'
`If you'd shut the fuck up, I'd happily arrange it.'
“I did. I had a lot of fun actually. My dog is right on my bed.” Her brown eyes shone brightly along with her smile. He smirked.
“Good.” He sighed. “W-When would you like me to take you out again?”
Kagome gasped softly. “I-InuYasha…I-I…” `Why are you trying to complain?'
`I have a boyfriend'
`Didn't stop you on Saturday.' The voice muttered. Kagome frowned.
`W-Well, I do have a boyfriend---`
`Stop defending Hojo! InuYasha Morikami is asking you to go out with him again! Screw Hojo!'
Kagome almost laughed at that one. “I-I don't know.”
He bit the inside of his cheek. “Are you free today?”
Her head shot up. “Today?”
He shrugged. “Sure. You guys are going to be let out for lunch. We could…sneak away and I'll take you out to lunch.” A wicked glint highlighted his golden gaze. Kagome gulped.
`I like this guy, Kags.'
She leaned back. “That sounds good, InuYasha.”
They spoke about his job, about her school, and about anything they could speak about. He commented on her great designs inside her portfolio. She kept her tongue on what Kagura had said. She'd ask him that during lunch. An hour seemed to go by quickly.
“Come here, Kagome.” He extended his hand to her. She gladly took it. Her reward was his cocky smile when he led her to the window.
“It's high.” She piped up, shaking her head. The looking down reminded her of the `ride' they went on at the carnival. `This is much higher'
`At least here you don't have to worry the floor dropping out of it.'
Point taken. Slowly, InuYasha took her hand, twined their fingers together. “You know what I thought when I saw you at the lecture?” He whispered.
Her breath hitched at the intense glow behind his eyes. “Wh-What?”
He leaned forward. Kagome's heart banged against her ribcage. She felt lightheaded. He took her hand, placed it against his heart as he brought her just a little closer. “I thought…you were the most beautiful girl I have ever seen.” He dropped his forehead against hers. She gasped, eye suddenly feeling heavy.
“I-Inu…Yasha,” Kagome murmured. His hand released her other hand as he brought it up to drag it up her arm. He was hardly touching her yet the electricity that ran up her body was intense. She gasped. `He's so close…'
`Too close?'
`There is no such thing…not with…him'
His hand cradled her cheek, his eyes dropped to her slightly parted lips. He brought her closer against him, letting go of the hand he held against his heart. Her hand lingered there when his arm wrapped loosely around her waist. She closed her eyes as his lips slowly came closer. She could feel his breath against her lips.
`Kiss me, InuYasha…' She mused, the only thought that ran through her head. There was no room for coherent thought in her InuYasha-induced mind. He held such power over her. `Kiss me…'
He had every intention of kissing her. He was just about to touch her lips…so close also.
“Morikami-san,” The one person that shouldn't have poked his head it, poked his head in to InuYasha's office.
The moment shattered like glass as Kagome jumped away from him. Hojo stepped in to the office. His eye brows shot up in surprise, seeing InuYasha and Kagome only a small distance away. “Kagome, what are you doing here?”
She blinked. “J-Just asking M-Morikami-san s-some questions….” She hurriedly explained as her gaze diverted from InuYasha to the window. Hojo narrowed his eyes.
“Come here, love, it's almost lunch time.”
InuYasha growled. `That's just my fucking luck! Going to kiss Kagome and this little piece of shit walks in.'
`Look at her, she's mortified. Hojo is her boyfriend after all.'
He frowned. `Boyfriend? Feh! She's my mate! He shouldn't be with her! I should be able to kiss her whenever the hell I want!'
`Jealous?'
`Damn straight! I'll shove Tetsusaiga so far up with ass he'll walk on his toes forever! Fucking little---'
“Oi, she ain't joining you for lunch.” InuYasha blurted out before he could stop himself. Kagome gasped, eyes widening. Hojo scowled.
“And why is that?”
InuYasha crossed his arms over his chest. “My sister-in-law, Kagura, asked her to show her some of her sketches. She'll be lunching with Kagura.”
“Then I'll---”
“Kagura only wants her. This ain't a social call. And Kagura isn't very social friendly.”
Kagome gulped at the dark look Hojo sent InuYasha. “Very well.” He said tightly. “Kagome, I'll catch you after lunch. By the way, Morikami-san, Inutaisho-san sent me to tell you he wants you to call him.”
“I will.” InuYasha smirked at Hojo when the boy walked out the door. `I win'
`Yeah, and Kagura will beat your ass for calling her `not social friendly' you baka'
`Feh!'
He turned back to Kagome. “See? He wasn't so hard to get rid of.”
Kagome laughed. She shook her head. He grabbed her hand. “Come on. I know where we can go for lunch.”
She let him take her away from his office. They went down and this time, she wasn't afraid to get in to his car. Kagome smiled.
`Maybe my luck has changed from this month of bad luck.'
`I like InuYasha…'
Kagome glanced at him and he gave her a shy smile. `So do I.'
`Are we leaving Hojo?'
`I-I don't know…'
`InuYasha or Hojo. Balance it, seriously…I'd choose InuYasha faster than you can blink.'
`Sure, but I've been with Hojo for years and only known InuYasha for two weeks.'
`Does that matter?'
Kagome sighed, trying to control her still raging heart. `It should'
“I'll call Kagura and tell her what I told Hojo, okay?”
She nodded. “Thank you.”
“My pleasure. Come on Kagome, you're going to have a very good time with me.”
She smiled when he grabbed her hand and brought it up to his lips, placing a gentle kiss on it. “I'm sure I will, InuYasha.”
`After all, don't we always have a good time with him?'
`In the two time we've been with him…yeah…yeah we do.'
Kagome sighed. `InuYasha…what is it about you that I like so much?'
She chuckled softly. She'd figure it out eventually. Right now, though, she was going to enjoy her time with InuYasha Morikami.
