Chapter 2
Life is Tough
Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha
Summary: Inuyasha and Kagome are in high school together, the perfect relationship ever. Inuyasha gets an offer to study at the best school in the world, literally. Kagome wishes him the best of luck and promises to await his return. After a month Inuyasha moves without telling her, leaving her with a secret. Four Years later he returns with a fiancé. How will she react? Will she tell him her secret? Or will he be kept in the dark about his own son?
“Sure you're ready for the math test today? I have notes you can look over.” Sango said worriedly. Kagome laughed and put up her free hand.
“No Sango, I got it covered.” She laughed. She was now seven months along and it was very noticible, but she still wanted to finish the first year of school. It only had another two months and she figured she would probably be able to finish. Only Sango knew it was Inuyasha's son. Kagome swore her to secrecy, and Sango kept her promise no matter how much it angered her. Her new boyfriend Miroku, who happened to be Inuyasha's best friend was not allowed the privelige of knowing. They decided that they didn't want to break up their friendship, well it was more Kagome's idea then Sango's. Miroku knew and loved Kagome. They were very good friends and he was excited about the baby, he also wanted to help her, but Kagome refused and told Sango to not worry and move in with him. They found out he still heard from him about once a week, and he gave her updates on his condition. Kagome felt no anger towards Inuyasha now, only sadness for her fatherless child, she wanted no ill will towards Inuyasha from anyone and have the freedom to finish college. She had told everyone except Sango that she had slept with too many men to know who the father was at that time. Many people made fun of her in back of her and in front of her for it, but she didn't care. She walked up the stairs to her next class, it took her a little time but it wasn't that bad.
“Kagome, why don't you take the elevator?” Sango asked helping her.
“One, I need a pass, and two, I need exercise.” Kagome said as she struggled up the stairs slightly.
“Oh look the pregnant slut can't even manage to get up a few stairs.” A girl said and her little followers snickering with her. Kagome growled staring at her.
“Why don't you just tell people Kagome?” Sango said in a low tone.
“Because Inuyasha has enough stress with out teenagers yelling at him for his own mistakes, don't forget he's a hanyou, he's had it tough since he was little. That's what worries me about the baby, no one will be there to understand what he will go through because of his mixed blood.” Kagome sighed as she reached the top step. Sango shook her head slightly. She would never understand how Kagome could be so kind towards a man who just left without a word. She saw her friends eyes get misty and she stopped throwing her free arm around her holding her close.
“It will be ok Kagome, we will get through this together.” Sango whispered. Kagome nodded and let a tear fall to her friend's shoulder.
“Thank you Sango, you're the best friend anyone can have.” She replied hugging her tighter. Sango pulled away but kept her hand locked with hers.
“You have Miroku on your side too.” She replied just as a mysterious hand attached itself to each of their rears. They both turned around and smacked him, reflex action to the lech.
“Why my lovely ladies how are you today?” He asked innocently with two red handprints on his face.
“Honestly Miroku, you'd think you'd be a little more respectful to a pregnant woman.” Sango sighed.
“Oh I know, Kagome knows I tease her too.” Miroku said winking at Kagome with his arm wrapped around Sango making Kagome giggle. “Oh Inuyasha called.” He said knowing Kagome would want to know about his condition.
“Really how is he doing?” She asked putting a hand on her oversized belly unconciously.
“He said he's doing good, school is rough but he was doing good.” There was a silence between the three and Sango looked at the clock.
“Oh I gotta get to class, take care of Kagome for me.” She said kissing her boyfriend.
“Will do.” He replied as she hugged Kagome and rushed off. They watched her leave in silence. “So when are you going to tell me the truth Kagome?” He asked breaking her out of her trance.
“Sorry?” She asked confused.
“I know you two are lying to me. I've known you for eight years now, and I know that you sleeping around is bullshit. I know you know who the father is, what I don't understand is why you feel a need to hide it from me.” He said a little annoyed. His face softened and he took her hand. “Kagome, Yash is gone now and he wont be back for awhile, so you can tell me honestly, is it his or did you cheat on him?” Kagome looked down swallowing the lump in her throat as tears flooded her eyes.
“Uhh, gosh you know….” She said wiping her eyes. “I do know the father…. And….” She looked up at his expecting face. “…Its not Yash.” She said averting her eyes. She hated to lie even to her close friends. Miroku was split. Part of him accepted it and the other rejected it as a lie. He squeezed her hand once before letting go.
“Come on, it's art next.” he said thoughtfully and slinging his arm over her shoulder. They entered the busy classroom and took their seats just as the bell rang.
“Ok class quiet down, we have a lot of work to do today. Ok class today is free drawing day. Feel free to draw anything your heart desires. Only condition, have it done by the end of class and keep it school appropriate please.” Everyone chuckled as they got out their drawing pads. Kagome sharpened her pencil and began to draw. She had her mind on the math test she had today, the project due in two weeks, what she was going to do about school when her baby came, would it be a boy or a girl, and so many other things. When a half hour passed she realized she was done in drawing a family portrait of her, her baby boy, and Inuyasha. She gasped as her eyes got misty. That's what she wanted more then anything in the world, is for Inuyasha to be with her through this. She knew through her miko powers it would be a boy. She wasn't sure how but something inside her told her. There in this picture was Inuyasha smiling and holding his new born boy and Kagome next to him holding his hand as Kin, what she decided to name her baby, held onto her own hand. She stared at it until the bell rang. The teacher dismissed them and Kagome bent down putting her pencils away. When she came back up her drawing was gone. She looked around for it frantically until a snooty voice sounded behind her.
“Oh look girls, Kagome wants to dump her kid on poor Inuyasha. What makes you
think you would ever end up like this Kagome?” The girl asked.
“Give it back Naomi.” Kagome growled and snatched the paper back.
“Fine, but you should know sluts will never be happy.” She smirked. Kagome packed up quickly and rushed to the office signing herself out. She walked out and got in her old beat up car and drove home crying. When she got in she closed and locked the door and leaned against it tears falling freely. She wanted Inuyasha, but he just was gone. He left her Waiting Alone. A couple months passed by and Kagome was fired because of a nasty rumor that no doubt Naomi spread about her. Sango assured her it would be ok but Kagome just gave up and packed her stuff moving to an apartment alone. Miroku had helped her move and even tried to ask if he and Sango could move in, but she kindly refused. She was now living in a small apartment in an okay part of town. It was 2 bedrooms and one bath. She changed the guest room into a baby room and even installed some nice padding on the wall for the baby. She was now working as a sales girl over at the local Walmart which helped her out. Her boss was very kind. She was glad she had gotten away from being verbally assaulted by so many people about her being a single unmarried woman. Many people that worked with her or were customers that were regularly in adored her. They all were kind to her and a lot of her associates took pleasure in picking out some baby items during their breaks. She hadn't seen them in a few days because she was a week away from her due date and took maternity leave. Sango drove in during her spring break to stay with her just in case. The girls acted like it was pretty much a sleepover. She and Miroku got her a gift card to a grocery store and a Toys R Us card too. The day the baby was due came quickly, she didn't expect him to come today, but she was woken up about midnight with her water breaking, she woke up Sango and grabbed her bag and went to the hospital.

Sango held her friend's hand as she gripped it tightly. Sweat beading her brow.
“Push Kagome.” The nurse said from her place between her thighs.
“AAAGGGGHHHH!” Kagome screamed as she pushed with all her might. She stopped for a moment breathing heavily. Sango took the cloth and wiped her sweaty forehead.
“Kagome I'm here, just a bit more push.” Sango said softly holding her hand. Kagome pushed with as much strength as she had left finally stopping as the pressure released and a crying rang out in the room. She pushed her head back and panted. “You did it Kagome, it's all over.” Sango said hugging her.
“Congratulations Kagome, you have a baby boy.” The nurse said handing her a bundle wrapped in a blue cloth. She held him in her arms smiling widely. He had his father's face, that she could tell. He had almost a full head of black hair and his face was all wrinkled as he cried, when his mother held him he slowly quieted and blinked his tiny eyes open. He had golden eyes that slowly morphed into brown near the pupil. He looked at his mom and two ears sprang from his scalp turning straight to her.
“Oh, he is so adorable Kagome.” Sango said as she stroked an ear. He closed his eyes to the touch and fell fast asleep. “He looks like his father.” Sango whispered.
“Yes, he does.” She said happily.

The next day she was being emitted from the hospital. It took most of her money for the whole ordeal, so she would have to get back to work soon. She was filling out the birth certificate. When it came to the father she sat there debating. `Should I put him down? He is the father of Kin. But then again, I don't want someone forcing him with this.' Sango sat next to her and looked over.
“Kagome, he is his father. This is a legal document and you should be truthful. By putting down his name you are only stating he is the father, you're not forcing him to do anything.” Sango said softly.
“You're right. And someday Kin will want to know where his middle name came from.” Kagome said smiling and wrote down Inuyasha's name. She took the paper up still holding her baby. The lady nodded and typed a few things into the computer and giving her a copy of the certificate.
“Here you go, Congratulations little guy, you are now Kin Inu Higurashi.” The lady said stroking his tiny, clawed hand.
“Thank you.” Kagome said and followed Sango to the car.
Kagome rocked her baby as Sango drove her home.
“You know, Miroku still hears from him. You should tell him he has a son at least.” Sango sighed.
“I know you're right Sango, I should tell him. But he chose to leave and never return my calls. And besides, he should finish college, that's what he really wants to do.” Kagome said looking at her sleeping son.
“I'll never get how you can be so cool with it.” Sango sighed following her out to the car where Miroku was waiting.
