Chapter 15

When Trouble Calls

“Daddy?!?” Kin's voice sounded scared.

“Kin? What's wrong?”

**30 minutes before**

Kagome sighed as she woke up and rubbed her puffy red eyes. She rolled over willing herself to go to sleep only to have her body betray her. She rolled on her back and stared at her ceiling for awhile. `Inuyasha, why does it have to be like this. I tell you we will be fine, we can make it on our own, but I NEED you here. If Kin weren't here I probably would have died already. No I can't say that. If Kin weren't here I would be living the life I had. I was happy then. But I'm happier now. I wouldn't take back anything that has happened.' She thought and heard a small noise from the living room. Kagome got out of bed curiously. `What's Kin doing out of bed?' She thought and went out into the hall. She looked through the crack of the door to find him sleeping peacefully. `Hmm…That's odd…' Kagome thought as she watched her sleeping son. Her breath stilled as she felt short steady streams of air down her neck. She wasn't alone… She turned around punching the person behind her slamming them into the back wall. The person pushed off of it and lunged at her punching Kagome in the stomach before wrapping a small rope around her neck. Kagome got her hands to her neck blocking it from cutting off her air completely but she still had a lack of air. She slipped one arm out to elbow the person behind her perfectly making them gasp and fall down. She saw Kin in the door way of his room shaking and pushed him back in locking the door in the inside.

“Kin call for help!” She told him closing the door effectively locking it. Kin ran over to the phone and call the first number he knew would help. There were loud bangs from outside his door and Kin shook harder.

“Hello?”

“Daddy!” He answered scared to death.

“Kin? What's wrong?” His dad asked from the other side.

“Some man is here, and mommy is fighting him! Please daddy help us!” He cried into the phone just before he heard his mom's cry outside his door before it was kicked in. The person grabbed him, trying to take him but Kin fought, and fought hard. He kicked and scratched at the person's arm, effectively putting deep claw wounds into his arms. The person cried out revealing it was a male and Kin got away and ran out the hall to his mom who was lying on the floor groaning as the man tended his wounds.

“Mommy!?! Mommy are you ok?” He asked shaking her. Kagome looked up at him and nodded taking him and trying her best to get out of the apartment. Just as she unlocked it He slammed her against the wall and threw Kin to the side.

“I don't think so, neither of you are leaving this apartment. Kagome kicked him in the groin and watched him fall over before going over to Kin who was passed out.

“Kin! Kin! Please honey wake up are you ok?” She asked shakingly as she held him close to her.

“BITCH!” The man growled lunging at her Kagome hugged Kin tighter only thinking one thing… `Inuyasha please help us, I can't loose Kin'. She thought as the man held up a knife and brought it down straight towards her heart. Kagome braced for the attack. As if called Inuyasha ran in and stopped the man just before he hit her getting a full grip on his wrist digging in his claws puling it up trapping it at the guys face.

“Didn't your mother tell you it's not nice to hit girls?” He growled punching him so hard the guy flew through the open door landing against the wall of the outside hallway causing quite a commotion… Sesshomaru appeared at that moment with two officers arresting the guy and taking him away. Sesshomaru nodded in a silent meaning everything was ok now. Inuyasha nodded back his silent ok before going to Kagome. She clinged to him with Kin in her arms crying. Inuyasha held her rocking her gently before pulling back. They both held their shares of bruises and blood stains, Kagome much more then Kin. “Come on, we need to go see a doctor…” He said picking them both up easily and taking them to his car.

Inuyasha sat in the waiting room waiting for the doctor to come out and tell him how much damage there was. Sesshomaru sat down next to him casually.

“The man was a professional hitman, he hasn't revealed who hired him yet though.” Sesshomaru informed him coolly.

“Thank you Sesshomaru. I appreciate you doing this for me.” Inuyasha said thoughtfully.

“I didn't do it for you.” He said surprising Inuyasha. “When you first dated Kagome, I had never seen you so happy in my life. And it was good for me because you were less annoying. Even tonight, through it all when you held her, you looked so happy.”

“Why are you telling me this?” Inuyasha asked confused. Sesshomaru shrugged.

“Just food for thought…” He said getting up. “I will look into it more and get to the bottom of everything, I will let you know when he talks.” He finished walking away.

“Don't you mean IF he talks?” Inuyasha asked.

“No, WHEN, I have yet to meet anyone who has not talked to me.” He replied showing his green poision from his hand making Inuyasha chuckle. The doctor came out and went over to Inuyasha who stood up upon his arrival. “How are they?” Inuyasha asked worried.

“They are both alright, a few bruises and scrapes nothing serious.” The doctor replied placing his file on the counter. Inuyasha nodded thoughtfully.

“Can I see them?” Inuyasha asked and the doctor nodded going on his own way to his next patient. Inuyasha opened the door slowly and walked in the room shutting it quietly to not wake Kin who was sleeping next to Kagome. She looked up as she heard the door's small click making her dark black eye visible to him. He swallowed the lump in his throat and sat down next to her and lightly touched her face making her wince slightly. “Sorry.” He whispered.

“Don't worry, it only looks bad.” She replied softly smiling.

“Kagome.” He whispered. He held her tightly, like she would vanish before him. “You always put on a brave face no matter what. That was one of the things that made me fall in love with you.” He whispered in her ear and holding her tighter. Kagome always loved it when he held her tight or, when after they had been together, laid on her chest. The weight and grip made her feel safe. He slowly and regretfully pulled back. She laid back and looked at Inuyasha who was staring at Kin's hand that lay on her stomach. She reached over to Inuyasha's hand that was by her thigh and took it bringing it to Kin's and setting it on top of his. She watched as Inuyasha curiously finger the small hand. He set three of his fingers in the palm and watched as it curled around them. Kagome didn't miss the way Inuyasha smiled, or how happy Kin looked in his sleep. She also didn't miss the look of pain they both wore when Inuyasha pulled away.

“Inuyasha… The doctor said that I could leave tonight, and I don't have a car, do you think you can drive us home?” Kagome asked wincing as she sat up.

“Yeah, let me take him and I'll make the arrangements while you get dressed and sign out.” He grunted picking up his sleeping son and holding him on his hip exiting the room to make his calls. Out of the room he flipped out his cell to call his dad to make sure he knew about the situation.

“Hello?” His father's voice came from the other end.

“Dad? It's me. I was just calling to make sure you knew that Kin and Kagome are ok.” Inuyasha spoke quietly.

“That's good. Sesshomaru is down at police headquarters questioning the guy now.”

“How is it going?”

“Oh you know, the usual. Sesshomaru is pissed because they passed that rule that says we can't hurt the questioned. Thought knowing your brother he will if the man continues to be stubborn. Apparently someone is paying him good money….” Inuyasha watched as Kagome walked up to the counter and asked the nurse for her papers, a smile never leaving her lips. “…But that's the least of our problems. I checked the bank again today, and apparently our accounting was off.” His father sighed.

“Off? By how much?” Inuyasha asked startled.

“One and a half million dollars.” His father said bluntly.

“What! It can't be, have you checked the banks records?”

“Yes, I went through them all, but everything seems to be right. The wedding will be cutting it tight. But after we will have Kikyo's share also so we will be back in business. The company's stocks are starting to go up, so we will hang in there.” He sighed. Inuyasha looked over to find Kagome signing the last of her papers.

“Hey dad? Kikyo is going on the trip still right?” Inuyasha asked.

“Yeah, the one to Paris to find her wedding dress?”

“Yeah.”

“As far as I know why?” He asked curiously.

“Well, I don't like Kagome going back to her apartment the way it is, and we do need a woman's opinion on some of the wedding details, as much as it might hurt her, I know she always waited to study interior design, and we can pay her too so she can support my son.”

“Well, ask her. See what she thinks.”

“She's going to live in the guest house until the wedding, make sure Kikyo goes to bed so she doesn't know she's there. I don't need another fight.” He grumbled.

“I'll make sure. See you soon.” Inuyasha snapped his phone shut just as Kagome came back.

“Thanks for looking out for him.” Kagome said taking Kin back into her arms.

“No problem, come on we need to talk…” Inuyasha said taking her out to his Corvette parked in the lot. Kagome laid Kin down in the back seat, buckling him in with the middle one and closed the door hopping in. Inuyasha gave the vehicle life before backing out and zooming off.

“So what did we need to talk about?” Kagome asked looking at him.

“You and Kin are going to live in the guest house, until we get your apartment back into shape.” He said, which Kagome didn't argue knowing it was his final word. “We can't really pay you the normal wage, since our money is running extremely low, so I figure we will help you fix your apartment back to the way it was if you agree to help with the last details of the wedding.” He finished. Kagome looked down at her hands then back out the window. `I have to think about Kin. If I work and restore the apartment, then we can move back and in the mean time, I will be doing something I love, and Kin and I will be safe until the issue is all over.'

“I'll do it.” She whispered.

“Really?” Inuyasha asked a little shocked.

“Yeah, I want to.” She said sadly. A silence rang through the car for a few minutes before Inuyasha spoke.

“Thank you Kagome.”

A/N: Hey I decided to change this chapter since I didn't like how it was going. Any way. Yeah. I would like to know from my readers, if after this you either like to have a sequel story about their life together, or just a little preview at the end. You don't need to decide right now, but I'd like to know by at least the wedding day. Thanks.
