Chapter 16: The Final Decision

 

Inuyasha walked up to the park. He was excited but at the same time nervous. When he heard Kagome's voice over the phone again he couldn't help but feel some sort of relief. When he got to the park bench he was surprised to see that Kagome was already there. Her head was down, her hair was hanging in front of her face.

 

“Something wrong?” he asked.

 

Kagome lifted her head. Her eyes were watering, “Uh no. I'm fine.”

 

“I'm pretty sure there's something wrong. What is it?”

 

Kagome closed her eyes and sighed, “I'm not going to lie to you. I…can't lie to you. I've been thinking.”

 

“About what?”

 

“About you,” Inuyasha smiled, “and Kouga.” He frowned.

 

“What about me and Kouga?”

 

“About…who I should choose.”

 

“What do you mean?”

 

“Nothing. It doesn't matter.” Kagome got up from the bench.

 

“Sounds like it matters.” Inuyasha got up after her.

 

“Okay it does matter but you guys are making it too hard!”

 

“What did I do?!”

 

“You're a good kisser.”

 

“Why, thank you.”

 

“You're welcome.”

“And how does Kouga come into play?”

 

“He said he really loves me.”

 

“That's it?”

 

“Yes. So?”

 

“That's not a lot.”

 

“Inuyasha that means a lot to me! And so does he.”

 

“What about me?” Kagome turned around and stayed silent. Inuyasha stepped forward. “Don't you care about me Kagome?”

 

“You know I do.” She mumbled.

 

“Can you look me in the eyes and say that? I want to hear you say it.”

 

Kagome slowly turned around and looked straight into his beautiful golden amber eyes, “Inuyasha, I care about you. I really do. But Kouga—”

 

“What about Kouga?”

 

“I can't just drop him like that!”

 

“Why not?”

 

“Because!”

 

“Because why?!”

 

“Because…because…” as Kagome stumbled for an answer, Inuyasha took another look at her arm. He thought, and then his eyes widened. Kagome noticed his expression and took a step back while covering her arm.

 

“He…he hits you doesn't he?” Kagome gave no response. Inuyasha felt anger rise in him, “Doesn't he?!”

 

Kagome shook her head. She got choked up but managed to get words out, “No, he doesn't.” Kagome turned around again and walked about three feet until he caught her wrist. She flinched.

 

“You flinched. He does hit you!”

 

“It doesn't matter! It was a mistake! He said he would never do it again.”

“And how many times has he said that before?” No answer from Kagome. “Kagome I'm not stupid.”

 

“It's none of your business.”

 

“Yes it is. Kagome, if he's hurting you I need to know.”

 

“Why?”

 

“Because I care about you just as much as you care about me.”

 

“But why do you care about me?! I'm not special.”

 

“I don't believe that. If you're not special then why haven't I stopped thinking about you ever since I met you? Kagome I've never felt this way about anyone. Saying you're not special is like saying Sesshomaru's jokes are funny.”

 

“Wow. Am I really that bad?”

 

Inuyasha smiled and put a hand on her shoulder, “You know what I mean. You're so special to me. I would do anything for you.”

 

Kagome turned toward him, “Really?”

 

Inuyasha kissed her on her cheek, “Really. And anything falls into the category of killing Kouga for hurting you.”

 

“Don't. He could hurt me worse.”

 

“Not if I kill him first.”

 

“Just don't.”

 

“Kagome what do I have to do to make you realize that he isn't right for you? Do you like him hurting you?”

 

“No!”

 

“Then what's stopping you from leaving him?”

 

Kagome bit her bottom lip. A tear ran down her face, “I'm…I'm too scared. If I even started to tell him I was dumping him…I can't even begin to think what he would do to me. I'm sorry Inuyasha. I'm so sorry.” Inuyasha took Kagome into his arms and kissed the top of her head.

 

“It's okay. I'm here for you. But Kagome listen to me, you need to choose. It's me or him.”

 

Kagome looked up at him. She rose to give Inuyasha a deep kiss. She pulled away and whispered in his ear, “I choose you.” Inuyasha smirked and gave her another kiss.

 

“But what am I going to do? I mean I live with Kouga.” Kagome said.

 

“You can live with me.”

 

“Thank you.”

 

“No thanks needed.”

 

“Okay, I'll pack my stuff and I'll meet you here tomorrow.”

 

“Cool. But tomorrow is a new moon. So meet me here before sun down. I don't like to stay out at night during a new moon.”

 

“Gotcha.” Kagome turned around and started to head for home.

 

“One more thing.” Inuyasha said from behind her.

 

She turned, “Yeah?”

 

Inuyasha grabbed her wrist and pulled her towards him to give her yet another kiss. “Man that feels good.”

 

“You're such a dork.” Kagome said laughing.

 

“Yes, but I'm your dork now.”

 

“Well, we'll have to change that.”

 

“Is that a challenge?”

 

“Maybe.” Kagome turned again to head for home. Inuyasha stood there alone.

 

“YES!” Inuyasha put his arm in the air like he was grabbing it and pulled it down. He ran home, got inside and saw Sesshomaru doing what he usually does.

 

“What happen—?” Inuyasha hugged his brother, picked him up, and spun him around. He put him down, “WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT?! GOD! NOW I SMELL LIKE YOU AND I JUST TOOK A SHOWER!!! DAMN YOU! DAMN YOU TO HELL!”

 

“SHE CHOSE ME!”

“Who?!”

 

“Kagome! She chose me!!”

 

“Was she doing a little,” Sesshomaru imitated someone drinking and doing crack.

 

“No!”

 

“Whatever you say,” Sesshomaru headed for the staircase. He stopped and turned around. “Are you she didn't you know…have a white mustache below her nose?”

 

“LEAVE! You're spoiling the moment!”

 

“Got milk?” Sesshomaru ran up the staircase laughing.

 

“You know one night I'll just—” Inuyasha ran a finger across his throat and made a sound like he was cutting something.

 

“Heard that!”

 

“I'm not doing this again!”

 

“CHICKEN!”

 

“NO I'M NOT!” Sesshomaru started making chicken noises. “SHUT UP OLD McDONALD!”

 

“LAME JOKE!”

 

“WASN'T TRYING TO MAKE ONE!!”

 

“GOOD YOU SHOULDN'T IT MAKES YOU LOOK LIKE AN IDIOT! WHOOPS! TOO LATE!!”

 

“HA! HA! THAT WAS SOO FUNNY!” Inuyasha yelled sarcastically.

 

“GOOD! MY JOKES ALWAYS ARE!”

 

“WHATEVER!”

 

“CHICKEN!”

Kagome came home and sighed with relief that Kouga wasn't home. She would tell him tomorrow. She packed all her things and went to bed.

 

But later, Kouga came home and saw the packed suitcases.
