I know this was supposed to be posted yesterday but something came up that I had to take care of. This is mostly a romance chapter. The next chapter is the last, hope you all enjoy!
Chapter 12
Kagome sat across from Kouga, with Inuyasha at the table behind her. Although the hanyou’s back was turned to the conversation, his ears most certainly were not. He desperately wanted to know what the wolf had to say to Kagome. He didn’t want to get back together with her did he? He smelled like he had recently bedded another wolf youkai but hadn’t mated her yet so it was very much a possibility.
Inuyasha growled, no one was taking Kagome from him. Not when he had just worked up the courage to tell her he wants to be with her. His ears turned back to the conversation going on behind him when he heard Kagome sigh.
Kagome looked over to Kouga expectantly and Kouga just sat there. Finally she sighed and he started talking.
“First, is Shippo ok?”
“Yes, he’s on surgery right now He should be out in a few hours.”
Kouga nodded, “what’s the surgery for?”
“A brain tumor,” Kouga looked over to her forlorn eyes and nodded.
“He’s a fighter, as much shit as he’s been through this’ll be nothing for him,” Kouga tried to reassure her.
Kagome nodded. “So is that all you came to talk about? We could have done that in the room.”
Kouga looked over to her and saw the hanyou behind her and then realized he was talking, “really Kagome a hanyou? You could do so much better than that,” he spat out with obvious disgust.
“Kouga you left me so therefore you have no right to say anything about me or the decisions I make for my life.”
“No, maybe not but I do have a right when it comes to Shippo, remember I still have partial custody.”
Kagome looked a little panicked but quickly hid the emotion. The last thing she wanted to do was let Kouga know she was upset, or for that matter Inuyasha. She really needed to get this over with and if Inuyasha thought that Kouga being here was hurting her in any way she had no doubt in her mind that he would not hesitate to kick Kouga out of the hospital and take her back to bed.
“Kouga you may have partial custody of Shippo, but you haven’t seen him in two years what on this earth makes you think he wants to see you?” She said casually, although the words were spiteful.
“It really doesn’t matter does it? The fact is that I have a right to see him and if I choose to I can carry him out of your little apartment kicking and screaming.”
Kagome gave him an evil glare, “you wouldn’t.”
Kouga looked her over, she looked weak, very weak, but her threatening glare was still effective. He sighed, “your right I wouldn’t. But there is something that I really do need to talk to you about, but I need to know that you’re really going to listen to me.”
The seriousness in his voice made Kagome wonder what this was all about, she nodded for him to continue.
“Well I just wanted to explain what happened two years ago,” he paused. He had expected Kagome to interject something but was surprised when she remained quiet, waiting for him to talk. He cleared his throat and started again, “you see when I was a baby my grandfather’s best friend also had a grandchild. They were from two different tribes and their dream was to unite the two tribes, so they decided that when we were old enough I would marry Ayame, the other old geezer’s grandkid. They told us over and over when we were little that we would marry, but I never liked the girl all that much.
“When we went to college they suggested that we go to the same college to get to know each other, but I wanted to go to Boston College and she wanted to go to NYU so we talked them into letting us have a few more years before we had to get to know each other. That’s when I met you and I knew that I couldn’t marry her,” he took a deep breath before he continued, “I thought I could talk my grandfather out of it once he saw how much I loved you but he said that I had to marry her anyways. He said that I could marry her have a child and raise it to maturity and if you loved me the way I said you did you would be waiting for me after we divorced.”
Kouga looked to Kagome anxiously, waiting for any kind of response. She looked to him with sympathy.
“Kouga that’s awful. I’m so sorry that happened too you.”
“Kagome it’s ok I just thought you oughta know why I left. I want you to know that I never forgave myself for what I did to you, leaving you alone with Shippo and everything. I hope you can forgive me.”
“Of course I can forgive you Kouga, you had no choice.”
Inuyasha had heard enough he jumped up and turned to Kagome.
“Kagome, he had every choice! He shouldn’t have taken your heart if his was already taken. He knew he had to marry her and still he started a relationship with you, moved in with you and adopted a kid with you. He knew he was gonna have to leave you and he did it any ways!” Inuyasha looked like his eyes were going to pop out of his head, his claws were digging into his palms, retracting and then reentering the already bloody flesh.
Kagome turned to him and said, “Inuyasha it’s ok.” She looked down to his palms and gasp. “Inuyasha stop that your going to hurt your hand, here let me go get a wet rag.” She got up to go to the bathroom and left Kouga and Inuyasha alone.
Kouga looked over the hanyou with mild amusement and let out a short laugh.
Inuyasha turned his head back from watching Kagome retreat to the laughing wolf. “Whatya laughin’ at?” He asked with ire.
“You’re never gonna be good enough for her, you know that right?”
Just when Inuyasha was ready to launch a comeback Kagome walked back in. She made a b-line for Inuyasha.
“Inuyasha, sit,” she ordered pointing at the chair she had been sitting in before. He sat down. Kagome sat down next to him and reached for his hand. She took the wet cloth she had found and began to wipe the blood away. Once she had cleaned it she wrapped a second, dry cloth around his hand and put light pressure on the tiny cuts.
Inuyasha couldn’t help but let what Kouga said get to him. After all, wasn’t that why he had sworn off women after Kikyo? He looked at the woman in front of him. She was working diligently, but gently on his hand. He was sure she would scold him about losing his temper later but it felt nice to sit here in front of Kouga with her full attention on him, and for all intensive purposes holding hands. He smirked a little. So maybe she was too good for him, but he was simply too selfish to give her up. He wanted to prove Kouga wrong.
Maybe Kouga couldn’t take care of Kagome, but Inuyasha would. If it was the last thing he ever did, she would be taken care of.

Miroku waited for Sango to come back from the bathroom to order. He had wondered why she hadn’t spent very much time at the hospital, but had thought that she must have been working or something. Now he understood. There were a range of conflicting emotions running through him, sadness for her and her father and brother, anger that she had had to go through so much so young and all alone. And lastly, relief and pride that she had opened up to him and shared what presumably she had never shared with anyone else.
He saw her walk back into the room and straightened his deep purple tie. He had decided to wear it over his favorite black shirt since he knew that the combo with a black pair of slacks made women melt the moment they looked at him.
Sango sat down and began to look at her menu.
“Have you decided what you what my dear Sango.”
“How about for you to stop calling me ‘my dear Sango.’” She said with just a hint of a smile on her face.
“Well then my little butterfly is there anything on the menu that you would like?”
“You know since your paying I think I’d like the lobster with a side of filet minion,” she said smirking at the menu.
Miroku laughed a little, “if that’s what you want.”
“Yes I think that’s what I want.”
Miroku put his hand up to call for the waiter and elderly man came over. He took out his notebook and asked, “what can I get you two today?”
Miroku answered, “well I’d like to have the porter house steak, well done with a baked potato with sour cream and extra butter on the side.”
The man wrote everything down and then turned to Sango.
“I’ll have the lobster with a side of filet minion, well done.”
The man wrote it down, and then looked up. “I’m afraid you can’t do that you’ll have to do that on two separate orders.” He looked over to Miroku expectantly.
“Well then do it on two orders,” Miroku stated. The man nodded, wrote it down and walked back to the kitchen.

Kagome looked over to Kouga, “is there anything else?”
Kouga looked down to see that Kagome was still holding Inuyasha’s hand and felt something inside him tighten. He was married to another woman, he had left her, so why did it hurt so much to see her with another man? That’s when it hit him, the look on her face that she gave Inuyasha, it used to be reserved for him. She deserved to be happy and he couldn’t do that for her anymore.
“Well, actually I was going to ask you to wait for me.” Inuyasha began to grip Kagome’s hand back and prepared to jump up and yell at the wolf but then Kouga continued, “I was going to ask that of you but then I realized that you’ll never be happy if you spent the next twenty years waiting on me and not having a real life. You deserve to be happy. So all I ask is that you let me see Shippo. I’d like to get to know him.”
“Kouga, if you want to see Shippo, I won’t stop you. All I ask is that you come over to see us, at least the first few times. I don’t want to force him into something he isn’t ready for.”
Kouga nodded and then took out a small piece of paper from his pocket and handed it to Kagome. It was a business card and had Kouga’s phone number on it. “If you or Shippo ever need anything just call, and later on maybe you‘ll call me and tell me how he is?”
Kagome nodded.
“Thanks Kagome, for letting me be in his life. No kid should have to have a hanyou for a father.” With that Kouga stood up went around and kissed Kagome on the cheek while the two were still processing his last statement and walked out of the cafeteria to find his wife. They needed to have a long talk.
It took a few minutes for Kagome and Inuyasha to realize that Kouga was gone and that they were still holding hands. They both quickly removed their hands and turned away form each other.
Kagome was the first to speak up, “Inuyasha about what he said, I mean I’m sure he didn’t know what he was talking about. I mean I know that you don’t like me like that. So lets just put this all behind us, you forget it happened.”
Inuyasha couldn’t believe what he was hearing. He quickly turned his head to Kagome and reached his arm around to cup her chin. He slowly forced her to turn her head towards him. He looked into her eyes and sighed. Then he looked down into his lap, his hand still cupping her chin.
“Damn it Kagome I’m no good at sayin’ stuff, you know that, but I can’t just forget about this,” he paused for a minute and tried to think of something to say to her to convey his feelings. Then it hit him, actions speak louder than words. So he licked his lips and leaned into her. He gently pressed his mouth to hers, opening his lips slightly and allowing his tongue to come out and slowly lick her bottom lip from left to right. When she didn’t respond he sighed and pulled back. He got up to leave.
Kagome set in shock. She was sure he didn’t have those feelings about her, but she was obviously wrong, because here he was kissing her. By the time she came out of the shock of him kissing her she realized that the kiss was over and that Inuyasha was getting up to leave. She reached her hand out and grabbed his arm.
Inuyasha turned to her and said, “it’s ok Kagome, I’m ok. You don’t like me the way I..” Inuyasha was interrupted by Kagome getting up from her seat and grabbing hair to pull him down to her level. She looked into his eyes for a moment and nodded. Then she pulled his lips to hers and allowed herself to kiss him. Inuyasha opened his mouth and allowed her tongue entrance. Her exploration was a little unsure but that didn’t upset Inuyasha.
He put her hands on her sides and moved them up and down, rubbing circles on to her back. She put her hands into his hair and moved up to his ears. Once she reached them she slowly rubbed the bases and then moved up and ran her fingers over the tips.
Inuyasha broke the kiss first and gasped. Kagome realized she was thankful that he had done it because she needed air and hadn’t realized it until then. She leaned into his chest and allowed her eyes to close for a minute. She opened them again when Inuyasha’s chest started rumbling with laughter. She looked up at him with annoyance.
Inuyasha looked down at her and said, “I think that was the best kiss I’ve ever had.” Kagome laughed a little too and then said, “I think that’s the understatement of the century.”
Inuyasha looked down at her, “I think you need to go back to bed. We’ll talk more once we get there.” She nodded.

Kouga sighed when he got out to the parking lot. Ayame was waiting by the car. That’s when he realized that he had the keys. He reached into his pocket and pulled them out. He went around to her side of the car and unlocked and opened the door for her. After she was safely in the car and closed the door and walked around to the driver’s side door.
Once he was in the car he looked over to her and noticed the mascara running down her face and the red puffy eyes. She had been crying. He sighed, he was such an asshole.
“Ayame we need to talk,” he said as he reached over and placed his hand on hers. He squeezed her hand and ran his finger over her knuckles.
She looked up at him and nodded.
“Look for what it’s worth I’m sorry.” Ayame looked up at him, her eyes met his and asked, “about what?”
Kouga took a deep breath, “I’m sorry that I haven’t been the husband you deserve. I should have accepted that you were just as unhappy about this as I was, but instead I blamed you for everything. I shouldn’t have.”
“Kouga, I know what your going through. You should have depended on me, I could help you.” She looked into his eyes and added, “I was in love too you know.”
That sparked Kouga’s interest. Ayame looked down at her lap before continuing, “his name is Jacob he’s from the southwestern tribe. I had to leave him to marry you.”
Kouga out his hand on her cheek and turned her face to his. “I never knew that.”
“I know, I never told you.”
“You should have, maybe I wouldn’t have blamed you so much.”
“Well then maybe we’ve both made some mistakes then.”
Kouga nodded, “you wanna go somewhere for dinner later tonight?”
Ayame looked over to him in shock, he never offered to take her anywhere. “Sure, that would be nice. But what are we gonna do until then?”
Kouga smirked, “I don’t know maybe we can go see a movie or something. You know what, why don’t you pick something for us to do.”
Ayame smirked back at him, “I think we should go play laser tag. There’s an awesome place downtown we could go to.” She held her breath in, she had never dared to even suggest something like that before for fear that Kouga would make fun of her for being childish.
“Sure thing.” He started the car and waited for her to give him directions.

Sango looked up at the clock and laughed, “do you know that we’ve been talking for almost and hour and a half?”
Miroku looked down at his watch, “why I guess we have.”
Sango laughed, “I don’t think I’ve ever lost track of time like that before.”
“Well maybe we should dine together again so you can’t say it was a one time thing.”
Sango looked over to him and said, “well I’m free for dinner tomorrow, but I was thinking that maybe we could go to the hospital and check on Shippo and Kagome and then after go for ice cream?”
Miroku smiled, “I think we could do that.”

Kagome walked into the hospital room, followed closely by Inuyasha. She went over to the bed and sat down. Inuyasha walked over and pulled the blanket out from under her and then put it around her legs. She smiled at him.
Inuyasha pulled a chair next to her bed and sat down. “Kagome we do need to talk, there are some things that you should know before we can be a couple.”
Kagome nodded.
“You need to understand that I’ve only been in one relationship in my life. That wasn’t until I was already here and it didn’t end well. I have no idea how successful relationships work. I don’t know how to treat a girlfriend properly or be a good boyfriend or any of that shit.”
“That’s ok. Obviously I’ve never been in a successful relationship either and to be honest I’ve only had one boyfriend other than Kouga. I’ll help you learn to be good in relationships. And by the way you already know how to treat a girlfriend right, you’ve been doing it for the past month.”
Inuyasha bowed his head to keep her from seeing him blush.
“Lets just go on a few dates and see what happens. We don’t have to decide to get married and have babies and just a house in the suburbs just yet,” Kagome continued.
Inuyasha let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding and smiled at her. “Ok, I think that’ll work. But first lets work on getting you out of here and getting Shippo better.”
Kagome looked over at him and smiled, “you really do care about us don’t you?”
“Kagome, I’ve never spent an entire week at the hospital for one patient before.”
That’s when he remembered that he hadn’t talked to her about the bills yet. “Kagome I do have something else I want to talk to you about.”
She looked over to him, noting his serious tone.
“When I talked the hospital into letting me do the MRI I had to tell the attending that I would personally pay for it and the surgery.”
Kagome gasp, “I can’t let you do that.”
“Kagome I know you can’t afford it. We’re talking thousands of dollars. I have money in the bank that I’m not using and I want to do this for you and Shippo.”
“But…” Inuyasha interrupted her.
“Kagome please, let me take care of you and Shippo. If I don’t you’ll end up hurting yourself by working too hard trying to do it alone. You don’t have to do it yourself anymore. Please, let me take care of you Kagome.”
She looked into his eyes and nodded, “fine. But the first night Shippo’s home I’m making you dinner.”
Inuyasha laughed, “sure thing Kags.”
“Kags?”
“What you don’t like it?”
“No, its just that I’m not used to it Yashie.”
Inuyasha laughed, “I guess I asked for that one huh?”
“You sure did Yashie.”
They both laughed.
Suddenly Kagome got serious. “Yashie?”
“What Kags?”
“Is Shippo going to be coming out of surgery soon?” She laid down facing him.
Inuyasha looked up at the wall clock behind her and saw that it was almost five thirty. “Should be in the next hour or so.”
Kagome nodded and then yawned.
“Why don’t you get to sleep? I’ll wake you the first that I hear.”
Kagome nodded. “Ok, sounds good. You’ll take care of me,” she said groggily.
Inuyasha felt a wave of warmth go through him after hearing him hearing her say that.

Sesshomaru finished stitching up Shippo and took a quick look over at the heart monitor. Still strong and steady. He looked up at the clock and then put a cloth over Shippo’s eyes, and gave him a drink of water. He then put earplugs in him ears. He knew that the kit’s senses would be coming back fairly quickly. Once his sense of smell came back everything else would be soon to follow and it would hurt him when they all came back.
He waited for a moment and then heard Shippo take a loud breath. The senses where probably flooding his head right now. Sesshomaru reached the kit’s right ear and slowly removed the plug he had put there a few moments before.
He spoke softly, “Shippo? How does everything feel?”
Shippo tried to talk, but his voice was small and shaky, that of a voice that hadn’t been used in a while. “I still can’t hear or see or smell very well.”
“Well that’s because I’ve got a cloth over your eyes and a plug in your other ear. Are you ready for the other ear plug to come out?”
“Yeah,” Shippo said, it hurting to move his head.
“Ok then, when your ready.”
Sesshomaru walked over to the other side of the bed and out his claw in the kit’s ear very carefully.
“It’s ok, go ahead and do it.”
Sesshomaru removed the ear plug slowly. “Can you hear better now?”
Shippo was quiet for a moment and then spoke, “yeah a little but my head is hurting.”
“That’s normal it’ll get better once you get used to your senses again. It’ll still hurt a little but we’ll give you something to make it feel better.”
“Ok.”
“Tell me when your ready to remove the cloth over your eyes.”
“Ok.” Shippo waited nearly five minutes before telling Sesshomaru to remove the cloth.
“Ok, when I remove this I want you to keep your eyes closed. Open them slowly when your ready.”
“Ok.”
Sesshomaru removed the cloth and waited for Shippo to open his eyes.
Shippo opened his eyes slowly as Sesshomaru had told him too. It took a few minutes before he was able to keep them open.
“Now, can you see?”
“Yeah, and it getting easier to smell and hear too.”
“Ok, you’re progressing normally. I’m going to move you to another room and then I’m going to go get your mother and Inuyasha.”
“Really?”
“Yes.”

Inuyasha couldn’t help but let what Kouga said get to him. After all, wasn’t that why he had sworn off women after Kikyo? He looked at the woman in front of him. She was working diligently, but gently on his hand. He was sure she would scold him about losing his temper later but it felt nice to sit here in front of Kouga with her full attention on him, and for all intensive purposes holding hands. He smirked a little. So maybe she was too good for him, but he was simply too selfish to give her up. He wanted to prove Kouga wrong.
Maybe Kouga couldn’t take care of Kagome, but Inuyasha would. If it was the last thing he ever did, she would be taken care of.

Miroku waited for Sango to come back from the bathroom to order. He had wondered why she hadn’t spent very much time at the hospital, but had thought that she must have been working or something. Now he understood. There were a range of conflicting emotions running through him, sadness for her and her father and brother, anger that she had had to go through so much so young and all alone. And lastly, relief and pride that she had opened up to him and shared what presumably she had never shared with anyone else.
He saw her walk back into the room and straightened his deep purple tie. He had decided to wear it over his favorite black shirt since he knew that the combo with a black pair of slacks made women melt the moment they looked at him.
Sango sat down and began to look at her menu.
“Have you decided what you what my dear Sango.”
“How about for you to stop calling me ‘my dear Sango.’” She said with just a hint of a smile on her face.
“Well then my little butterfly is there anything on the menu that you would like?”
“You know since your paying I think I’d like the lobster with a side of filet minion,” she said smirking at the menu.
Miroku laughed a little, “if that’s what you want.”
“Yes I think that’s what I want.”
Miroku put his hand up to call for the waiter and elderly man came over. He took out his notebook and asked, “what can I get you two today?”
Miroku answered, “well I’d like to have the porter house steak, well done with a baked potato with sour cream and extra butter on the side.”
The man wrote everything down and then turned to Sango.
“I’ll have the lobster with a side of filet minion, well done.”
The man wrote it down, and then looked up. “I’m afraid you can’t do that you’ll have to do that on two separate orders.” He looked over to Miroku expectantly.
“Well then do it on two orders,” Miroku stated. The man nodded, wrote it down and walked back to the kitchen.

Kagome looked over to Kouga, “is there anything else?”
Kouga looked down to see that Kagome was still holding Inuyasha’s hand and felt something inside him tighten. He was married to another woman, he had left her, so why did it hurt so much to see her with another man? That’s when it hit him, the look on her face that she gave Inuyasha, it used to be reserved for him. She deserved to be happy and he couldn’t do that for her anymore.
“Well, actually I was going to ask you to wait for me.” Inuyasha began to grip Kagome’s hand back and prepared to jump up and yell at the wolf but then Kouga continued, “I was going to ask that of you but then I realized that you’ll never be happy if you spent the next twenty years waiting on me and not having a real life. You deserve to be happy. So all I ask is that you let me see Shippo. I’d like to get to know him.”
“Kouga, if you want to see Shippo, I won’t stop you. All I ask is that you come over to see us, at least the first few times. I don’t want to force him into something he isn’t ready for.”
Kouga nodded and then took out a small piece of paper from his pocket and handed it to Kagome. It was a business card and had Kouga’s phone number on it. “If you or Shippo ever need anything just call, and later on maybe you‘ll call me and tell me how he is?”
Kagome nodded.
“Thanks Kagome, for letting me be in his life. No kid should have to have a hanyou for a father.” With that Kouga stood up went around and kissed Kagome on the cheek while the two were still processing his last statement and walked out of the cafeteria to find his wife. They needed to have a long talk.
It took a few minutes for Kagome and Inuyasha to realize that Kouga was gone and that they were still holding hands. They both quickly removed their hands and turned away form each other.
Kagome was the first to speak up, “Inuyasha about what he said, I mean I’m sure he didn’t know what he was talking about. I mean I know that you don’t like me like that. So lets just put this all behind us, you forget it happened.”
Inuyasha couldn’t believe what he was hearing. He quickly turned his head to Kagome and reached his arm around to cup her chin. He slowly forced her to turn her head towards him. He looked into her eyes and sighed. Then he looked down into his lap, his hand still cupping her chin.
“Damn it Kagome I’m no good at sayin’ stuff, you know that, but I can’t just forget about this,” he paused for a minute and tried to think of something to say to her to convey his feelings. Then it hit him, actions speak louder than words. So he licked his lips and leaned into her. He gently pressed his mouth to hers, opening his lips slightly and allowing his tongue to come out and slowly lick her bottom lip from left to right. When she didn’t respond he sighed and pulled back. He got up to leave.
Kagome set in shock. She was sure he didn’t have those feelings about her, but she was obviously wrong, because here he was kissing her. By the time she came out of the shock of him kissing her she realized that the kiss was over and that Inuyasha was getting up to leave. She reached her hand out and grabbed his arm.
Inuyasha turned to her and said, “it’s ok Kagome, I’m ok. You don’t like me the way I..” Inuyasha was interrupted by Kagome getting up from her seat and grabbing hair to pull him down to her level. She looked into his eyes for a moment and nodded. Then she pulled his lips to hers and allowed herself to kiss him. Inuyasha opened his mouth and allowed her tongue entrance. Her exploration was a little unsure but that didn’t upset Inuyasha.
He put her hands on her sides and moved them up and down, rubbing circles on to her back. She put her hands into his hair and moved up to his ears. Once she reached them she slowly rubbed the bases and then moved up and ran her fingers over the tips.
Inuyasha broke the kiss first and gasped. Kagome realized she was thankful that he had done it because she needed air and hadn’t realized it until then. She leaned into his chest and allowed her eyes to close for a minute. She opened them again when Inuyasha’s chest started rumbling with laughter. She looked up at him with annoyance.
Inuyasha looked down at her and said, “I think that was the best kiss I’ve ever had.” Kagome laughed a little too and then said, “I think that’s the understatement of the century.”
Inuyasha looked down at her, “I think you need to go back to bed. We’ll talk more once we get there.” She nodded.

Kouga sighed when he got out to the parking lot. Ayame was waiting by the car. That’s when he realized that he had the keys. He reached into his pocket and pulled them out. He went around to her side of the car and unlocked and opened the door for her. After she was safely in the car and closed the door and walked around to the driver’s side door.
Once he was in the car he looked over to her and noticed the mascara running down her face and the red puffy eyes. She had been crying. He sighed, he was such an asshole.
“Ayame we need to talk,” he said as he reached over and placed his hand on hers. He squeezed her hand and ran his finger over her knuckles.
She looked up at him and nodded.
“Look for what it’s worth I’m sorry.” Ayame looked up at him, her eyes met his and asked, “about what?”
Kouga took a deep breath, “I’m sorry that I haven’t been the husband you deserve. I should have accepted that you were just as unhappy about this as I was, but instead I blamed you for everything. I shouldn’t have.”
“Kouga, I know what your going through. You should have depended on me, I could help you.” She looked into his eyes and added, “I was in love too you know.”
That sparked Kouga’s interest. Ayame looked down at her lap before continuing, “his name is Jacob he’s from the southwestern tribe. I had to leave him to marry you.”
Kouga out his hand on her cheek and turned her face to his. “I never knew that.”
“I know, I never told you.”
“You should have, maybe I wouldn’t have blamed you so much.”
“Well then maybe we’ve both made some mistakes then.”
Kouga nodded, “you wanna go somewhere for dinner later tonight?”
Ayame looked over to him in shock, he never offered to take her anywhere. “Sure, that would be nice. But what are we gonna do until then?”
Kouga smirked, “I don’t know maybe we can go see a movie or something. You know what, why don’t you pick something for us to do.”
Ayame smirked back at him, “I think we should go play laser tag. There’s an awesome place downtown we could go to.” She held her breath in, she had never dared to even suggest something like that before for fear that Kouga would make fun of her for being childish.
“Sure thing.” He started the car and waited for her to give him directions.

Sango looked up at the clock and laughed, “do you know that we’ve been talking for almost and hour and a half?”
Miroku looked down at his watch, “why I guess we have.”
Sango laughed, “I don’t think I’ve ever lost track of time like that before.”
“Well maybe we should dine together again so you can’t say it was a one time thing.”
Sango looked over to him and said, “well I’m free for dinner tomorrow, but I was thinking that maybe we could go to the hospital and check on Shippo and Kagome and then after go for ice cream?”
Miroku smiled, “I think we could do that.”

Kagome walked into the hospital room, followed closely by Inuyasha. She went over to the bed and sat down. Inuyasha walked over and pulled the blanket out from under her and then put it around her legs. She smiled at him.
Inuyasha pulled a chair next to her bed and sat down. “Kagome we do need to talk, there are some things that you should know before we can be a couple.”
Kagome nodded.
“You need to understand that I’ve only been in one relationship in my life. That wasn’t until I was already here and it didn’t end well. I have no idea how successful relationships work. I don’t know how to treat a girlfriend properly or be a good boyfriend or any of that shit.”
“That’s ok. Obviously I’ve never been in a successful relationship either and to be honest I’ve only had one boyfriend other than Kouga. I’ll help you learn to be good in relationships. And by the way you already know how to treat a girlfriend right, you’ve been doing it for the past month.”
Inuyasha bowed his head to keep her from seeing him blush.
“Lets just go on a few dates and see what happens. We don’t have to decide to get married and have babies and just a house in the suburbs just yet,” Kagome continued.
Inuyasha let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding and smiled at her. “Ok, I think that’ll work. But first lets work on getting you out of here and getting Shippo better.”
Kagome looked over at him and smiled, “you really do care about us don’t you?”
“Kagome, I’ve never spent an entire week at the hospital for one patient before.”
That’s when he remembered that he hadn’t talked to her about the bills yet. “Kagome I do have something else I want to talk to you about.”
She looked over to him, noting his serious tone.
“When I talked the hospital into letting me do the MRI I had to tell the attending that I would personally pay for it and the surgery.”
Kagome gasp, “I can’t let you do that.”
“Kagome I know you can’t afford it. We’re talking thousands of dollars. I have money in the bank that I’m not using and I want to do this for you and Shippo.”
“But…” Inuyasha interrupted her.
“Kagome please, let me take care of you and Shippo. If I don’t you’ll end up hurting yourself by working too hard trying to do it alone. You don’t have to do it yourself anymore. Please, let me take care of you Kagome.”
She looked into his eyes and nodded, “fine. But the first night Shippo’s home I’m making you dinner.”
Inuyasha laughed, “sure thing Kags.”
“Kags?”
“What you don’t like it?”
“No, its just that I’m not used to it Yashie.”
Inuyasha laughed, “I guess I asked for that one huh?”
“You sure did Yashie.”
They both laughed.
Suddenly Kagome got serious. “Yashie?”
“What Kags?”
“Is Shippo going to be coming out of surgery soon?” She laid down facing him.
Inuyasha looked up at the wall clock behind her and saw that it was almost five thirty. “Should be in the next hour or so.”
Kagome nodded and then yawned.
“Why don’t you get to sleep? I’ll wake you the first that I hear.”
Kagome nodded. “Ok, sounds good. You’ll take care of me,” she said groggily.
Inuyasha felt a wave of warmth go through him after hearing him hearing her say that.

Sesshomaru finished stitching up Shippo and took a quick look over at the heart monitor. Still strong and steady. He looked up at the clock and then put a cloth over Shippo’s eyes, and gave him a drink of water. He then put earplugs in him ears. He knew that the kit’s senses would be coming back fairly quickly. Once his sense of smell came back everything else would be soon to follow and it would hurt him when they all came back.
He waited for a moment and then heard Shippo take a loud breath. The senses where probably flooding his head right now. Sesshomaru reached the kit’s right ear and slowly removed the plug he had put there a few moments before.
He spoke softly, “Shippo? How does everything feel?”
Shippo tried to talk, but his voice was small and shaky, that of a voice that hadn’t been used in a while. “I still can’t hear or see or smell very well.”
“Well that’s because I’ve got a cloth over your eyes and a plug in your other ear. Are you ready for the other ear plug to come out?”
“Yeah,” Shippo said, it hurting to move his head.
“Ok then, when your ready.”
Sesshomaru walked over to the other side of the bed and out his claw in the kit’s ear very carefully.
“It’s ok, go ahead and do it.”
Sesshomaru removed the ear plug slowly. “Can you hear better now?”
Shippo was quiet for a moment and then spoke, “yeah a little but my head is hurting.”
“That’s normal it’ll get better once you get used to your senses again. It’ll still hurt a little but we’ll give you something to make it feel better.”
“Ok.”
“Tell me when your ready to remove the cloth over your eyes.”
“Ok.” Shippo waited nearly five minutes before telling Sesshomaru to remove the cloth.
“Ok, when I remove this I want you to keep your eyes closed. Open them slowly when your ready.”
“Ok.”
Sesshomaru removed the cloth and waited for Shippo to open his eyes.
Shippo opened his eyes slowly as Sesshomaru had told him too. It took a few minutes before he was able to keep them open.
“Now, can you see?”
“Yeah, and it getting easier to smell and hear too.”
“Ok, you’re progressing normally. I’m going to move you to another room and then I’m going to go get your mother and Inuyasha.”
“Really?”
“Yes.”
