When Worlds Collide

Chapter 5: Finding A Semblance Of Peace

**************************************************************** *******

Jaxon had followed Sesshoumaru all day. She had accepted the fact that she wasn't getting away from him. Jakken was behind her and the small girl she had seen earlier was walking with Sesshoumaru. She had learned from Jakken that her name was Rin and that she was the only human Sesshoumaru bothered protecting. As the sun began to set the young girl began to complain of being tired and hungry. Sesshoumaru found a cave and started a fire in the middle of it. They ate what Jakken found in the forest. Slowly Rin and Jakken fell asleep leaving Jaxon and Sesshoumaru alone in some sense. Jaxon wrapped herself in her blanket as the wind began to pick up. She shivered.

"Stop that," Sesshoumaru said.

"If you were cold you would be shivering too."

Sesshoumaru stood up and walked over to Jaxon who sat against a wall. He wrapped his clawed fingers around her neck.

"I'll give you a reason to shiver, then."

"You don't scare me. You might have the toad and the girl wrapped around your little finger but I'm not going to let you do that to me," Jaxon sneered in a voice that was as equally chilling.

Sesshoumaru was in shock. No one had ever defied him except his enemies. Certainly no one had ever talked back to him. He didn't let his shock show on his face. Instead he let Jaxon go and went to the other side of the cave.

"Go to sleep," he said as he sat down.

"No!"

Sesshoumaru growled. He thought it was amusing the first time she had defied him, but now it was just making him even angrier. He walked over to her once again and lifted her up by her shirt.

"Go to sleep, or I will make you!"

"You can't tell me what to do."

With that Sesshoumaru tightened his grip on her shirt. This caused his claws to rip it. What he saw made him realize why she was so defiant. Bruises and cuts covered the area he had revealed. She was a fighter and one that was not so easily broken.

"My uncle gave them to me."

"What?"

"You heard me. I said my uncle gave them to me. I don't listen to authority figures very well so you're just going to have to get used to it."

Sesshoumaru growled again and turned away from the girl.

She's driving me crazy.

He sat down again and thought about his plan.

Inu-Yasha will give me the Tetsusaiga. This girl is the only way I can get what I want so I can't blow my only chance. Baka girl.

I watched Sesshoumaru. I don't know why I told him who had injured me. I just did. He seemed to have a lot on his mind. It was nerve racking. I felt the need to defy him even though I've been an OK kid and did what others told me to do. The only other person I felt like defying was my uncle. Unfortunately, he liked to punish me for my wrong doings. I knew Sesshoumaru could threaten and scream at me until his face was purple, but he couldn't hurt me because I'm his ticket to the thing he wants. I looked over at Rin and Jakken. They were asleep already. She laid down and tried to get to sleep herself but she couldn't. She was in distress for an unknown reason.

Inu-Yasha and Kagome will come for me. I know they will.

With that in her mind she fell into a deep sleep.

Inu-Yasha and company made camp for the night. They had traveled all day without stopping. They still had no sign of either Jaxon or Sesshoumaru. Inu-Yasha was restless. He was trying to hide the feeling of failure from his comrades. Kagome was upset over the ordeal because she felt that Jaxon was her responsibility. The others had felt like they had lost a new friend. The camp was in complete silence as they thought about Jaxon and what she meant to them. They all knew they would get her back soon.
