When Worlds Collide

Chapter 6: Sympathy

**************************************************************** ***** ***

Jaxon woke up to the sound of birds. She looked up to see that the sun had risen and that everything seemed to be at peace. She sat up and stretched. A flash of white caught her eye. She turned to see Sesshoumaru standing above her.

"Get up!"

Her smile faded and she stood up. They gave each other harsh looks before Sesshoumaru turned and walked over to Jakken. He kicked the toad and then walked out of the cave. Jakken woke up Rin who ran outside to join Sesshoumaru. Jakken turned towards Jaxon.

"You need to go. We will be leaving in a few minutes."

Jaxon quickly gathered her belongings and walked outside. Her frown faded as she enjoyed the warm sun on her face. She looked around her to see Rin running ahead of Sesshoumaru. She was enjoying the sunshine as well. She looked at Sesshoumaru. He was giving her the same cold look as before. Jaxon looked away.

I'm not going to let him spoil today.

That stupid girl.

Sesshoumaru had looked away from Jaxon and had started to walk. For some reason he felt strange. Although he wouldn't admit it to anyone else, he felt sympathy for the girl.

She's driving me crazy. I actually feel sorry for that pathetic human girl.

He looked at her again. She seemed to be enjoying herself. Rin called him from ahead.

"Look at what I found," Rin said.

It was a small rock. Although it meant nothing to him, Rin still seemed to be proud of her discovery. Rin took off behind him. He continued to walk knowing that Jakken would make sure that the two girls caught up with him.

"Look what I found."

Jaxon looked down to see Rin smiling. In her hand was a small rock. Jaxon smiled. It was amazing to her how something so plain and simple could make a little girl so happy.

"That's very nice. Where did you find it?"

Rin smiled.

"It was over there."

Rin pointed to a spot on the side of the path. Rin grabbed Jaxon's hand and dragged her over to the spot where she had found the rock. Jaxon laughed and looked around her. She once again had caught sight of Sesshoumaru who was still walking. She knew she wasn't going to get away from her captor that easily. She let go of Rin's hand and continued to walk behind Sesshoumaru. Her day had been shot down with the simple thought of no escape. Jaxon looked at the demon one last time and felt some sympathy for him.

He must have had a terrible life. That's the only explanation for his behavior now.

Jaxon also felt sympathy for Rin and Jakken. They had to follow Sesshoumaru everywhere and obey his orders.

I might as well make the best of it. Hopefully I'll be out of here soon.

Inu-Yasha and Kagome woke the rest of their party with one of their arguments.

"I wasn't the one that said she could stay. I told you that I didn't want her here, but you said you would let her stay."

"You could have been a little more forceful. If you had actually tried hard enough I probably would have sent Jaxon back home."

"If I had been any more forceful, you would have had me on the ground with a broken back."

"Sit!"

That ended the argument rather quickly. Kagome stormed off leaving a very confused group.

"I'll go talk to her," Sango said.

She and Kilala went off in the direction Kagome went. She found Kagome under a tree. Kagome was clearly upset. She was crying.

"Kagome, what's wrong."

"I feel like I could have done something to keep this from happening. Poor Jaxon, she didn't deserve this."

"We'll get her back Kagome. I know we will. Inu-Yasha wouldn't let anything happen to Jaxon."

Kagome nodded. She cleaned her face to wipe away the streaks that her tears had left. Kagome, Sango, and Kilala returned to where the boys were to hopefully continue to search for Jaxon.

"Why am I blamed for everything?"

Inu-Yasha was angry. He had just been released from the ground and he felt like complaining.

"Well Inu-Yasha, Kagome seemed to be quite upset. Give her some time to calm down," Miroku said.

"If you had kept an eye on Jaxon in the first place, Kagome wouldn't be mad at you," Shippou said.

Inu-Yasha hit the kitsune on the head.

"It wasn't my fault she was taken so shut up."

The three of them turned their heads when they heard footsteps approaching. Kagome and Sango were there riding on top of Kilala. Kagome got off and walked over to Inu-Yasha.

"I just want to say I was sorry. I shouldn't have blamed you for this," Kagome said.

"Come on," Inu-Yasha said.

"What?"

"Let's go find Jaxon."

They all smiled and started to continue the search for their friend.
