InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Winter's Scent 冬のにおい ❯ Recollections 記憶 ( Chapter 6 )

[ A - All Readers ]

Inuyasha jumped from building to building… it was night fall in Tokyo and the streets were dim… Only yellow street lamps illuminated the already dark streets…

It had been a year since he had been doing this… It was tiring but he knew he had to go on… Kagome had to be here somewhere…

She had taken the jewel with her…taken all the memories they had… how could she not believe in him… But Miroku's words echoed in his head…

“You were like a dead corpse everyday after Kikyou left! Everyday you just got up ate, jumped around and went back to sleep and Goshinboku! Do you know everyday Kagome stood behind Goshinboku and cried? You didn't notice because you were too concentrated in you own world…Now that she left you can't blame her…she was hurt.”

He had nothing to say… only keep quiet and walk off…

Whatever you said…was true Miroku…I couldn't even smell her…not to mention her tears…Now…it's too late…she's gone…and she won't ever want to see me again…

“I'll find you…No matter where you go... Even if it's going to take my whole life…I'll find you…”

++++

Kagome examined her work…

It looked original enough… It looked… true enough…

“Kagome-Chan! How's the report?”

“Should be fine…I think…”

“Can I have a look?”

“Sure…Here”

“The Miko and Hanyou? It's great! Where did you get such a story?”

“I…”

It's my story…How should I say?

“My aunt told me about it… It should be original enough…”

“Sugoi! I think we'll get high grades for this…”

Two more days…The school term will end…Two more days… I will be heading back… I really don't want to go back…

“Kagome-Chan! How long are you going back to Tokyo?”

“2 days… I think… I'm not going to stay too long…”

In case…memories return and prevent me from returning…

“I see… I can't wait for spring! Winter is just too cold…”

Winter…is indeed to cold for me…

“Yup…I can't wait for spring…”

+++++

“Higurashi! Good work! This is very original! Where did you find it?”

“Urm… My aunt told me about it…”

“Class, I will pin this up somewhere around…It's very original! This story has been lost for years…I only heard it when I was a child! The Miko and the Hanyou…Interesting!”

“You mean it's a true story?”

Makiko challenged…Keito sighed…She knew it… Anything that Kagome did well in she never liked…If this was something Kagome made up, Makiko would find all means to pick on it…

“Yes indeed! It's a rather sad story although as no one knows the ending…”

No one knows the ending…I see…

“Why? What kind of story is this if there is no ending?!”

“Ah! Because the Miko disappeared in the end…And no one knows where she went!”

“Haha! Why did she disappear?!”

“Ah…So class would you rather me tell the story of the Miko and The Hanyou then listen about the Sengoku Jidai?”

“Of course!”

“This story is long and very touching…Now where should I start?”
`500 years ago… In the Sengoku Jidai… A period of time where warlords and samurais fought battles to conquer each others lands…It was also a period that was filled with many `Youkai's and `Mononoke's…

There was a sacred jewel however which everyone desired as it could grant everyone's wishes…Shikon no tama.

Kagome felt the jewel pulse…She really didn't want to listen to this story…It would be like…reliving a dream…that she never wanted to remember…

A miko was protecting it… and she fell in love with a Hanyou… a child that was from a Youkai and a human… The hanyou promised the miko that he would use the Shikon no tama to become a human… so that he and the miko could spend the rest of their lives together, since the miko was the protector and she would not need to protect it after it was purified…

However, an evil demon desired to have the jewel for evil uses…so he plotted against the miko and the hanyou… He tricked both of them and the hanyou ended up being sealed to a sacred tree that made him never grow old… the miko died shortly after…and the jewel was cremated with her…'

“So that's the end?! How lame!” Makiko commented…

Kagome shot Makiko a look that would have scared the wits out of her…It was lucky that Makiko was to interested in insulting the story to even notice Kagome…

`No…That didn't end there. 50 long years later…A young girl appeared in the village where the hanyou was sealed…they said she wore strange clothes and looked exactly like the miko that was protecting the shikon no tama…she was the reincarnation of the miko that protected the sacred jewel…'

Was that me…A reincarnation of Kikyou? Just a copy of her? Just a substitute of her…

“Oh! So she was the copy of the old miko! Haha!”

`Yes, she was the reincarnation of the miko…but although looks were alike, their personalities were different…Anyway, this young girl possessed the sacred jewel…embedded in her body…'

Kagome let out a sigh of relief…At least someone understood…She never wanted to be Kikyou… She just wanted to be herself…To be Kagome…

`So, in the haste to save herself against the pursuit of a Youkai that was aiming for the jewel, she released the hanyou that was sealed to the tree for 50 years…The hanyou wanted the jewel for himself… Filled with hatred for he believed that the miko and betrayed him, he tried to attack the girl that came from an unknown land…The sister of the miko put a spell on him and made him obey by a word of the girl that was the reincarnation of the miko…

“OSUWARI!! INUYASHA NO BAKA!!”

Kagome couldn't bear but let out a small giggle…Those moments were totally hilarious…

The girl was later taken away by a Youkai and the Hanyou came to rescue her…And in the midst of recovering the jewel, the girl shattered the jewel into shards…

“OH! How stupid! Haha!”

Kagome really wanted to give Makiko a knock on her head… It wasn't purposely though…She didn't know the hit would shatter the shikon no tama…

`So, thus begun a journey with the hanyou and the young miko to retrieve shards of the jewel to reunite the shikon no tama… This journey was however perilous as there were many out there also looking for shards of the jewel to gain power…The strength of the Hanyou and the compassion of the young miko…On the journey they also met many other companions that helped them in many situations…

Shippo…Miroku…Sango…Kirara…
All were my best friends…and I left them 500 years ago…

`They also met their ultimate enemy…The demon who tricked the Hanyou years ago…and killed the miko…

The Hanyou was angry and vowed revenge…and soon they found out… The miko was revived… And the girl from the strange land… was heartbroken… for she had fallen for the Hanyou…

The hanyou however, was unsure of his feelings…It was the girl from the strange land that opened his heart…taught him how to trust…how to love…

Yet, the undead miko died for him…he couldn't leave her in the lurch…

They journeyed long and far and finally they meet with their ultimate enemy and battled for 3 days and nights…

Kagome closed her eyes…The battlefield resurfaced in her mind again… Thousands of Youkai swarming the sky…

“KAZE NO KIZU!”
Those familiar attacks as thousands of Youkai perished under his sword…The Tessaiga…

“I told you! I'll protect you!!”

`Finally, the battle ended… The undead miko had sacrificed her life to purify the jewel and left this world… The Hanyou grieved and was totally devasted…He didn't know… The young miko was watching and it pained her… There was nothing she could do… She decided to leave…With the jewel…Nobody could find her…Many said she went back to her strange land where nobody knew her…'

“So that's why there's no ending huh?!”

`Yes…Indeed… This story really is heart aching considering the fact that the girl left without saying goodbye…The Hanyou was very sad indeed…'

Sad? Was he really sad?

The school bell rung and it ended the history lesson…

“Kagome-Chan! That was a totally touching story… It was just so sad that the girl and the hanyou didn't end up together…”

“Maybe they were never meant to be? Maybe the girl should never have fallen in love with the hanyou…”

“True…But why would a human girl fall in love with a hanyou?”

“Because…he was always protecting her…Always there for her…”

“How do you know? You seem to know…a lot…”

“Ah… I heard it from my aunt! I think my grandfather knew a lot about these…”

“So…How did the Hanyou look like?”

“He had…long silver hair and gold eyes…and he had a pair of dog ears…”

Kagome smiled secretly… That pair of dog ears…it was just so cute…

“How do you know?! It's like you know him!”

“Huh?! How could that be! Who would know a selfish, violent and jealous guy like him?!”

“Huh?”

“No…Nothing!!”

“Shikon no tama…Hey isn't that the name of you necklace?!”

Oh…Damn…

“I think so…My grand father gave it to me…”

“Do you think it might be related? To the miko and the hanyou?”

“Well…I don't know…”
