Youkai Love

Chapter 3 - Reunion

Kagome sat on the edge of a stream her feet dangling in the cool water but she had a smile on her face nonetheless.

Taka, Hanta, and Byako sat around thier camp cooking the game she caught earlier while she relaxed.

"Kagome it's finished!"

"Okay!"

She pulled her feet out and wiped them on the grass as she walked over to them ploping down beside Byako.

He handed her a stick with roasted meat on the end.

She bit happily in to it and chewed as the demons talked around her.

"So how much longer until we reach the palace?"

"About two days if we don't run in to trouble.."

"I see..."

Kagome swallowed saying.

"Man, what I wouldn't give for some Ramen right now.. better yet a chocolate bar.."

They stared at her.

"Ra-man? what's that?" Taka asked his green hair swaying with the wind

Kagome perked up saying

"its a type of food and its really easy to cook if you have the right ingredients. And chocolate is a sweet food from America!" She suddely blinked realizing they didn't know about America yet..

"What's Ameri-ka?"

"Um..... it's a... trading village I met with once..." She said smiling sweetly.

There was silence... then...

"Kagome?"

"Yes Hanta-san?"

"What type of demon are you anyways? I mean I've never seen one like you before.."

Kagome's shoulders slumped. What would she tell them? The past four days she had taken great care to cover the mark on her forehead that gave her herritage away.

"Ummm....."

The leaned forward.

"Well?"

"Um... I'm a rare kind of inu youkai...." She said brightly. and mentally added 'an very ancient and powerful one that is both a great danger and treasure to this planet...'

"I see.."

"So Kagome, why do you hate Sesshoumaru so much?" Taka asked.

Kagome glared at the dirt.

"Because I do. I can't even keep count of all the times he has tried to kill me! And its his fault I had to break the seal...!!"

"That's odd... Sesshoumaru only attacks when he has a purpose.. why you..?" Byako said.

"Do you know of the legendary Tetsuiaga?"

They nodded.

"Well I used to travel with Sesshoumaru's younger half brother named Inuyasha... an hanyou... and Inuyasha is the one which weilds the Tetsuiaga... the sword Sesshoumaru wants..."

"So you'd try to help the hanyou and Sesshoumaru tried to kill you as well." Hanta said thoughtfully.

"Yes. only now that I've seen the hanyou's true colors I have left him to travel by myself protecting who I can.."

"Alright buy why were you traveling with the hanyou in the first place? Were you his lover?" Taka asked curiously.

Kagome grabbed a rock and whipped it at him and it hit him straight in the face.

"WITH THAT BAKA!!?? OF COURSE I WASN'T!!!!"

She sat down and continued in a calmer voice.

"I was protector of the Shikon no Tama although after if was broken I traveled with him to collect them, and he was my protector.."

"But why was he your portector if your a de---"

"I'm not finished. Most of my life I have been in a powerful seal of a human, only I could break it whenever I wished but I didn't want to. I didn't tell anyone about it, so I accepted his offer as protector. Only when I was running I was about to be killed by Sesshoumaru when I released myself. we didn't fight further because a clan of Oni attacked us. After I collected all the Shikon Shards I escaped and haven't seen him since."

"Ohhh......." Taka said while rubbing his face.

"So why is your lord planning all this? I mean Sesshoumaru couldn't have possibly agreed to this..." Kagome said crossing her legs in front of her.

"Well Sesshoumaru needs a heir so eventually he's going to need a mate.."

"and someone to melt his cold heart.." Taka whispered.

Hanta twacked him on the back of the head.

"Don't say thing like that!"

"Why? I do.." Kagome said grinning.

"Well you shouldn't..." Byako said.

Kagome shrugged but was still smiling.

She took a deep breath then suddenly froze her eyes wide her dainty nose sniffing the crisp air.

"Shippou....?" She whispered eyes going wide in horror.

"What..?" Taka said but was ignored as she bolted in to the forest in lightning speed.

Kagome took deep breaths as she ran for her kit's scent mixed with that of his blood.

There under a tree was a small crumpled form of a fox child breathing heavily blood trickling down his small frame.

She kneeled beside him and pulled him in to her arms, noticing all the cuts and bruises on his body.

"Shippou-chan..." She whispered her eyes brimming with tears and a deep anger rising in her chest for whoever did this.

His eyes wavered opened and looked up at her with tired green eyes. Kagome sensed Byoko and the others behind her. Shippou smiled weakly.

"Mo-ma.. is that you?"

Kagome felt tears trickle from her eyes as she hugged the kit closer.

"Yes Shippou.. its me.. only why are you all alone out here? Where is Inuyasha and the others?"

His face saddened.

"They are looking for the shards with Kikyou... Sango sent me to find you and protect you.. and to make sure you were okay...."

Kagome nodded, as Shippou's eyes closed as he drifted off to sleep. Kagome nuzzled her nose in his hair and whispered

"Thanks Shippou.. I'll never let you out of my sight..not ever again.."

She gently kissed the tip of his nose and stood up and turned to look at te three demons. Taka's mouth was wide open and was stumbling.

"Y-you have a-a PUP!?!!?!?!!!"

She glared at him.

"He's a kitsune pup you idiot... but yes I adopted his as my pup... I thought he'd be safe if I left him with Sango, Miroku and that baka hanyou.. but it seemed I was wrong.." She growled and her eyes flashed red with rage but she kept it under control..

For now.

She turned and walked back to the camp, Byako at her side.

"Lady Kagome... are you bringing him with you to the festival?"

"Of course I am." She asked looking down at the pup.

"But won't that hurt your chances at becoming Sesshoumaru's mate?" Hanta said getting a deadly glare from Kagome.

"Like I care to become his mate. Besides, he is probably going to bring Rin with him so her and Shippou can play.."

" ' Rin'? Who's that?" Taka asked.

"A sweet little human child Sesshoumaru travels with..."

"You mean the rumors are true then?" Hanta said thoughtfully.

"Yes.. only if you mention anything about it.. he'd probably rip your throat out." Kagome said nonchantly.

Taka and Hanta gulped.
