chapter 3: Under My Protection
“Does Kagome-neesan wanna play with Rin?” Kagome and Sesshomaru walked in just as Rin finished her breakfast.
“Sure Rin-chan, come on.” Rin ran up to Kagome and gave her a hug before grabbing her hand a running out of the
dining room, down some long halls, and out two huge doors.
The front of the palace was amazing! There was a waterfall in the middle with a dirt path around it leading to the
doors on one side, and the palace gates on the other side. To the left was a huge garden filled with any flower you
could possibly think of. To the left was a small forest of trees. Around everything, were huge silver gates. The front
gates were patrolled by four guards, two on the outside and two on the inside. They were obviously demons,
Sesshomaru would never hire a human, but they were in human form. They didn’t look too bad either.
Rin waited patiently for Kagome’s reaction. “Wow, it’s beautiful!” she said. Rin giggled and pulled her towards the
garden. Kagome sat down on a bench and watched as Rin picked flowers. Every now and then, Rin would bring
Kagome a handful of assorted ones. Kagome was so lost in the beauty of the palace, that she didn’t notice
Sesshomaru walking towards her.
“Kagome,” she jumped at hearing her name. “Your room is across from Rin’s. She’ll show you later. Every morning,
Satsuka will bring you a new kimono and training outfit. She’ll wake you at dawn and you’ll change into your training
outfit and follow her to the dojo where I will be waiting.” Kagome only stared at him in complete shock. “What do
you mean, training?” she asked. Sesshomaru almost smirked, but held it in. “I wish to see your power, aim, and
swordsmanship.” He sat down next to her to watch Rin who was jumping around in the flowerbed.
“Um, I can’t use a sword.” Kagome said. “What? You mean, you’ve been with that hanyou for 2 years and he never
taught you to wield a sword?” Sesshomaru was shocked, although you could only tell by his widened eyes. “Uh,
well, yeah! Exactly!” Kagome tryed not to laugh at the taiyoukai’s expression and lucky for her she didn’t.
“I guess I have a lot of work to do.” Sesshomaru stood up and walked back toward the palace. “Arigato
Sesshomaru-sama.” He only nodded and continued inside. “Rin wants to take a bath!” the little girl ran up to Kagome
taking all the flowers she had picked and running into the palace. “Sesshomaru-sama!” Rin ran up to Sesshomaru
who was sitting in a chair and held out the flowers. “Rin picked these for Sesshomaru-sama! Rin loves
Sesshomaru-sama!”
“Sesshomaru-sama wouldn’t want flowers from you girl.” Jaken snapped. Sesshomaru smirked before turning back to
Rin. “Thank you Rin.” Rin hugged his leg and ran off to where Kagome was standing and gawking over the place
again. Rin grabbed her hand and ran off toward the back of the palace to where the hotsprings were.

“Let’s go,” Inu Yasha said as Sango, Miroku and Shippo jumped onto Kirara and took off behind him. They were
heading east but with Inu Yasha’s prediction, Sango and Shippo were the only to really worry.
“Damnit,” Inu Yasha cursed as he changed direction and sped north. “What is it Inu Yasha?” Miroku yelled. Kirara
had changed course as well and followed the hanyou until he stopped in a large clearing.
“Kagura.” Sango cried out when she she saw the wind sorceress whip out her fan. “What do you want wench!” Inu
Yasha demanded. “Such harsh words from such a weak dog.” Kagura laughed at his expression and immediately sent
blades of wind crashing their way.
“BLADES OF WIND!” She cried out, letting the battle begin.

Kagome immediately relaxed as she dipped into the spring. She felt all the week’s aches and pains instantly was
away. The springs were not open as she thought. Instead, they were within some wierd room that Rin said was for
privacy. She really didn’t mind, in facet she preffrerd in door baths as anyone from the future would.
Rin too was quite content leaning against the side of the spring. The little girl had a huge smile plastered on her cute
face which Kagome found to be quite adoring. “So Rin-chan, how did you come to live with Sesshomaru-sama?”
Kagome had been curious about this for a while now and thought that this was probably the most apropriate time to
ask.
“Well, Rin doesn’t remember that much but wolves ate Rin and Jaken-sama said that Sesshomaru-sama brought Rin
bake with his sword” Rin smiled at the faint memory of waking up in her Sesshomaru-sama’s arms and then looked
back at Kagome, who was staring at the child in disbelief.
“How did Kagome-neesan get here?” Rin asked. But Kagome had no idea how to answer that. She couldn’t tell her
that Sesshomaru kidknapped her, so what would she say? “Um, well ya see Rin-chan, Sesshomaru-sama brought me
here when I was, um, introuble. Yeah I was in trouble and he save me and he brought me back here.” Kagome sighed
and closed her eyes in relief that was gone when she opened her eyes again. There before her stood a very amused
taiyoukai.
~ * & * ~
Sesshomaru was wondering where his ward and the girl were. He faintly caught their scents comming from the hot
springs and decided to see what was going on. Afterall, they should have been in for lunch by now.
When he reached the door he could hear Kagome’s question and decided to wait until their little conversation was
over to intrude. ‘Why do I care?’ He asked him self.’ He was about to step in when he heard Rin’s retaliation to the
older girls question and faintly wondered what she would tell her.
Sesshomaru was pleased when he heard that Kagome didn’t tell Rin the truth and noticed that he was still outside.
He walked in and stood before the girl who was leaning against the opposite side relaxing. When her eyes opened
she let out a small gasp and hurridly covered her chest with her arms.
“YOU PERVERT! WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU’RE DOING IN HERE?” She snapped. His amused facade
was gone, replaced by pure indifference, though his eyes shown anger. “This is my home so I have a right to
anywhere in it and lunch as you pathetic himans call it was half an hour ago.”
“I’M NOT PATYHETIC YOU BA, OOH, JERK YOU’RE LUCKY RIN’S HERE!” Kagome yelled reaching for her towel.
Rin had just sighed, grabbed a towel, and raced out of there to leave them alone. Kagome stepped out of the spring
with her towel in place and walked over to where her kimono was. Just as she was about to leave, he stepped in her
way.
“Refrain from using such language in front of Rin.” He said before turning his back to her and leaving. Kagome
decided to step back inside and put on her kimono before heading back to her room.
~ * & * ~
“SANKONTESSOU!” (A/N: SORRY IF THAT’S NOT HOW YOU SPELL IT!!) Kagura easily dodged and and sent
more wind hurling towards them. Inu Yasha blocked them with his Tetsusaiga and watched as Kagura pulled a
feather from her hair and escaped.
“Why the hell is she gonna attack us if she’s just gonna escape?” Inu Yasha yelled just before hearing a loud
*SLAP* ring through his sensitive ears followed by an even more offending scream. “HEANTAI!” Sango yelled
leaving Miroku to rub his red cheek. “Was it worth the pain this time?” Inu Yasha asked. He recieved a nod
indicating that the answer was ‘yes’.
“Huh?” Inu Yasha lifted his nose to the sky and began sniffing the air. “Kagome, Sesshomaru.” he said.
~ * & * ~
“Ow, let go of me!” She yelled. Sesshomaru came up from behind her and grabbed her arm creating a cloud beneath
his feet. “What are you doing?” She asked.
“We are going to my flthy half-brother to propose a trade. You for his sword, of course he’ll have a week to decide
whether he wants you or that fang more, I may have to hurt you to let this warning sink into his pathetic excuse for a
brain.” He said indifferently.
“Hey that’s not fair! You can’t just hurt me and expect to get away with it, besides. I already told you that this plan of
yours is not going to work!” “Be quiet.” He snapped. “If I want your opinion I’ll ask you for it, until then keep your
mouth shut.” He said coolly. “We are almost there.”
Sesshomaru landed gracefully before the present group of shard hunters. Inu Yasha quickly drew his sword and
advanced only to stop in mid air when he watched his brother wrap his hands aroung Kagome’s neck. “Sesshomaru
leave her outta this!” Inu Yasha demanded barring his fangs at his older sibling.
“I have come to propose a deal, little brother. Meaning, if you wish for this human female’s life, you’ll hand over the
Tetsusaiga.” Inu Yasha snorted. “But of course, I’ll give you a week to sort your thoughts. Until then, and only until
then, she’ll be under my protection. But I warn you, she won’t be very lucky if you do not accept my trade.” To
prove his point, Sesshomaru tightened his hands around her neck causing her own hands to raise and try to remove
herself from his hold before he dropped he to the ground.
“Take this as a final warning.” No one said anything as Sesshomaru lifted Kagome bridal style, with the help of his tail, and took off back to
his castle.
“Well, Inu Yasha give him the Tetsusaiga!” Sango ran up to Inu Yasha, stepping in front of him. “It’s not that easy
Sango.” Inu Yasha finally said. But before Sango could blow upat him,Mirokubecame involved by grabbing Sango’s
arm and pulling her off to set camp. “I think Inu Yasha needs to think about this, Sango.” Miroku said. Sango crossed
her arms, giving the hanyou one last glare, then leaving him to stand alone with his precious sword, thinking about
what he was going to do.
