Chapter 8: Not Weak

"Inu Yasha," she cooed. "You've done well in proving your love to me, so all that's left to do is wait. Soon I shall have my soul and you, but until then, I have plans for the boy."

"And what are your plans, Kikyo?" he asked. Kikyo grinned up at him and turned to face the unconscious Souta who was chained in the corner. "Be patient, dearest Inu, be patient."

He nodded as he walked out of the room. 'I bet Kagome hates me now.' He thought. 'Ow well, who needs her.' He added in his mind.

Kagome had finally fallen asleep and was resting peacefully in the taiyoukai's gentle embrace. Sesshomaru looked down and carefully removed a lock of raven hair from her face. He stood up and pulled her closer before turning to the rest of the group.

Sango was already unrolling her sleeping bag as was Miroku, but she couldn't help but let tears stream from her eyes, staining her cheeks. 'I know how she must feel.' She thought. 'Kohaku.' The tears were more frantic as she slipped from their camp to get some water foe dinner.

Miroku looked worried as he watched her leave. He noticed her eyes were glistening as well as her cheeks. 'She's thinking of Kohaku,' he sighed. He turned and started the fire before turning back to Sesshomaru and a sleeping Kagome.

'I wonder… no, she wouldn't not so soon after Inu Yahsa at least, and Sesshomaru hates humans.' Miroku had been thinking of the two a lot lately and faintly wondered if the two were glowing closer. By the way Sesshomaru acted with her, it would seem that way, but with Kagome's broken heart and his hate for humans, how far could it go?

'I hope she comes out of this okay.' He thought before turning to go after Sango.

Shippo was sitting patiently with Kirara, waiting for a sign that his mom was okay. After a while, he knew he wasn't going to get anything, so stretching out besides the neko yokai, he closed his eyes, hoping that Kagome would be fine when he woke up.

"Sango," Miroku walked to where Sango was sitting by the lake, gathering water in a cup from Kagome. "What are we going to do? You would be the best one to ask in this situation Sango, I just pray that she's alright."

Sango nodded, though she didn't look at him, and finally spoke. "I would risk my life for Kohaku, Miroku. The decision needs to be left to Kagome. We'll need to go by what she says. I don't want her to die, she's like a sister to me. But I would die for Kohaku, and I wouldn't let anyone get in my way. And as much as it pains me to admit, Kagome's strong for the people around her, and there is no doubt she will be strong for her brother, and give him the chance to live."

Sango was silently crying, but had yet to look up at Miroku, she was sure she'd break down if she did. Miroku slowly came up and sat beside her, putting his arm around her shoulder.

"You'd die for Kohaku, wouldn't listen to anyone, but yourself, and leave the person that loves you behind?" he was hoping his words would affect her, but all she did was meet his gaze with confusion.

"Miroku, I'm loved here, but not that way. If someone I cared about like that really loved me, I might find a different way to save Kohaku, I'll never give up on him, but I'd stay if I were loved."

"You are loved Sango. I love you."

Sango blushed as she looked into his eyes, searching for even the tiniest hint of deception, only to find that he had been telling the truth. Her eyes widened as his face came closer, her blush deepening into a dark crimson as his lips finally met her own.

She could only sit there for a moment, waiting to see if this was real, then deciding that the reality didn't matter, she leaned into the kiss and timidly wrapped her arms around his neck. His own arms snaked around her waist pulling her closer.

Miroku finally broke their kiss, pulling her into his lap. She rested her head against his chest and sighed contentedly. Miroku laid his head on her own, closing his eyes as he thought about their future to come. He grinned mischievously before cautiously sliding his hand downward in hopes of getting a handful, but before he reached the desired location, she figured out his motives.

SLAP

"HENTAI!"

Sango stood up and left the clearing to return to camp. "Damned monk always has to ruin the moment, doesn't he." She whispered to herself.

&

"Damned hand." Miroku sighed before getting up and leaving himself..

It was starting to get late when Kagome finally stirred. Sesshomaru immediately looked at her, silently questioning her welfare. Kagome swiftly reached her arms around her neck and pulled her self in to him, crying again.

Sesshomaru pulled her closer and stood, lifting her up, and walking away from their camp and to the lake that Sango and Miroku had just left. Sitting down, he pulled her back into his lap and waited for her to stop crying.

When she finally did, he pulled her back to look at him. "It will be okay, Kagome. We'll get your brother back." Kagome nodded and stood.

"We have to, we have to find her. I have to get to Kikyo before it's too late." She said. She wouldn't let her brother be hurt. Not by Kikyo, Sango and Miroku would take care of him. She would show Kikyo that she wasn't afraid to give her life to protect one she loved, she was loyal, unlike the overgrown mutt who stomped on her heart. But that was in the past, it didn't matter anymore, she didn't love him, she loved Sesshomaru.

Kagome gasped as the realization hit her, again. She had to tell him how she felt, but she couldn't, she wouldn't. 'I won't let my heart be broken.'

"Not again." She whispered with the wind. "Never again."

Sesshomaru knew the first part of his thoughts by the look on her face, but the other look was foreign to him. He silently cursed at her first train of thought.

"We will be getting him back with you alive, you will not give your life and soul to Kikyo. She is dead, you will not leave the ones who care about you so she can live a life that was not meant for her." Kagome fell to her knees.

"It can't be any other way! I won't have them hurting him, what if they already have? I couldn't live, knowing I can save him, but don't because of my own selfishness. I can't risk being to late to prevent my brother's harm. It's too painful-" Sesshomaru cut her off "And you'll only prove you're weak by dying. Besides, I won't let you go, not after what you've done to me."

"And what have I done to you, Lord Sesshomaru?" she half yelled.

"You've made me fall in love with you." Kagome gasped, and once again found herself in the taiyoukai's arms. She stopped crying, and hugged him back. Deciding it was now or never, she broke the silence.

Mwuahahahahaha , I've decided to end it there!!!

Well, not really,

I'm not that cruel!

"Sesshomaru, I-I, well, um." Kagome blushed, noticing how stupid she sounded, and then decided to continue. "Sesshomaru, what I'm trying to say is I love you. And you're right, we'll get him back together. And I won't die in the process, I'm not weak." She said.

Sesshomaru pulled her back to look into her eyes before leaning down to claim her lips in a firm, yet gentle kiss. Kagome gasped, not expecting this, but closed her eyes and began to respond when she felt his warm tongue collide with her own.

'Kami she tastes good.' He thought, tracing every corner of her mouth. They broke up finally, gasping for air. Kagome smiled softly at him. "I think we should get back to camp." He merely nodded and took her hand in his own, lacing their fingers together, they walked beck to camp.
