Disclaimer: For the millionth time already damnit I do NOT own the Inu-tachi. And I'm still upset about not owning Sess. I have so much in my mind that I could do to him. eh heh well, anyways, never have and never will. Damn, it's really too bad though!!

Chapter 13: Without a cause

"Inu Yasha." Kagome gasped. Breaking away from Sesshomaru's grasp, she tried to walk to him, to consoloe him and tell him what was going on. But it was a hopeless cause. The closer she got, the more he backed away. Kagome sighed in defeat as she looked into the golden eyes that were filled with hurt,
discomfort, betrayal, and most of all; anger and jealousy.

Inu Yasha was livid. How could she, after all they's been through, just give up on him for his own brother?! That was ubserd, insane even! But it happened, there was no doubt about it. Taking in a deep whiff of air, his eyes widened perspectively. He caught the slight scent of Sesshomaru's blood in Kagome, and Kagome's in him. 'Duh, how else would she have turned youkai?' he asked himself.
Knowing the truth only made it harder to accept. He knew Kagome would get fed up, but not enough to leave him.

"Feh" he said, tears showing in his yes as he turned and walked away. Kagome fell to her knees,
watching as her best friend in the world turned his back on her and walked away and out of her life,
maybe even forever. He had no idea what was happening, and when everything gets normal again, he finds that everyone important to him was gone. His girl leaving him for his brother, his other girl diedd again.

His friends were happy, they were happy before he returned, maybe he even thought that they would be happy without them. Kagome knew she wouldn't be. She loved Inu yasha, but not like that, not anymore at least. She couldn't love him like that if she wanted to, she had a mate, and she loved Sesshomaru with all of her heart, the same way he loved Kikyo, although she wasn't his mate, he still gave his heart to her at one point. This was kagome's choice, and she believed she chose the right path to take. No one and nothing would change the way she feels about Sesshomaru. She knew that, but why couldn't InuYasha just be happy knowing that he has his own place in her heart? Not as a lover,
but as a brother? He was just too damn stubborn,

Sesshomaru could feel her distress and it was driving him crazy. Walking over to her, her wrapped his arms around her slumped over figure and carried her into the hut, lying down beside her, he fell asleep.
They could both use rest before going on the search for the shikon shards again. And what better time then now? They still needed to defeat Naraku, damn were they behind in schedule.

Kagome lay there awake, she didn't want to cry but she couldn't help the tears that seemed to stream down her face on their own accord. She wouldn't let Inu Yasha get away without knowing that she loved him, even if it wasn't the way he wanted to be. It was still love and he needed to respect her descision. Silently slipping away from Sesshomaru, Kagome snuck away and ran after Inu Yasha's scent.

There he was, not too far away sitting on a rock by the river. She walked up to hi,. he seemed to be asleep. Placing his hand on his shoulder. She felt him tense, then his unease turned to anger, and finally to sadness and regret. Kagome sighed and watched as he turned around to look at her. He let out a slight chuckle.

"And i always thought that if you left me it would be with that mangy wolf, not my ass hole brother." he said, trying to lighten his mood a little. Kagome shool her head. She knew what he was doing and it wasn't going to help the situation. She needed to talk to him, to try and fix their broken friendship, but alas, it wouldn't be as easy as she wished it would. He would always feel uneasy towards her no matter what and that couldn't be helped.

"Look Inuyasha, I'm sorry. But what was I supposed to do?" "What do you mean Kagome?!" Kagome flinched at his harsh tone. But continued to tell herself that she needed to be here talking to him .

"Inuyasha, look. Sesshomaru was there for me. When you chose to leave me to die with Kikyo, Sesshomary helped me to feel better. When I found out that you and Kikyo had my brother and destroyed the well, he helped to get him back, he took Souta and all my friends in for asome time before we decided to come back here. The words I have waited to hear from you for the past three years, were said be Sesshomaru. He comforted me, Inuyasha, and soon my feeling for him changed to that of love. I'm sorry,. I cannot help the way that I feel."

Inuyasha bowed his head in shame. He hadn't even thought about what He put Her through, onyl that she abandoned his love gor his brother's. She could have turned away from his friendship as well, but she didn't. She came looking for him to try and make him feel better when she's the one that lost her family, and had her best friend turn on her. He left her for dead, it was him who should be sorry. He could at least be greatful that she was able to come out of this a good person, just as pure and untainted as she was before, unlike Kikyo who's purness changed to malice when she died.

"Kagome," Inuyasha started. "I'm so sorry. I-I wasn't even thinking when i said that stuff, all the things I did to you and you're still my friend, guess I should be glad, huh?" Kagome sighed. He was taking this better then she thought he would. She half expected him to lash out at her or something, not just tell her that he should be glad she didn't abandon his friednship as well.

"Inuyasha, I love you, but it's not the same love as I once gave you, I've given my heart to Sesshomaru. But you hold a special place, like a brother." The words pierced his heart, but he knew he would have to accept what she was telling him. Even if he didn't want to. He stood up from the rock, capturing Kagome in a warm embrace, one he'd onlayws dreamed of sharing with her, but it was different. She was hugging him back, but he scent wasn't what he dreamed of it being, then he remembered.

"So, how long have you guys been mates?" He asked, still holding tightly to her. She tried to look up at him, but he only tightened his grip.

"A few days I guess." she said. They held eachother still, Inuyasha getting over the fact taht she belonged to his brother, and Kagome enjoying Inuyasha's company, that is until a growl was heard in the background. Sesshomaru stepped out of the bushes, walking up to them. Inuyasha sighed and let go of Kagome, he knew he could never hold her like that now, even if he tried, Sesshomaru would always be close enough to his mate to retireve her from his arms.

Sesshomaru awoke to find that Kagome was no where in sight, so getting up, he followed her scent and was met by the scene of her and Inuyasha, embracing. Then, he could no longer control himself, like someone had taken over the will he had over his body. He knew what he was doing, but couldn't stop him. It angered him to no end, but he knew that they weren't doing anything wrong. Not caring to listen to their conversation, he released a growl and walked out from the bushes, watching with a sense of victory as Inuyasha's grip slackened to nothing and Kagome turned around, returining to his side.

"Kagome, why didn't you tell me you were leaving?" he snapped. His words came out a lot more harshly then he intended. But it wasn't his fault, his mate and brother were holding eachother, she needed to know that she was his and no one else was to be near her like that.

(A/N: I know I know, but you have to put in the inu possessiveness or else the story doesn't really work. Don't worry everything will be okay!!)

Kagome flinched at the harshness of his voice, surprised he would even use that kind of tone with her. Sesshomaru walked between Kagome and Inuyasha, growling as he turned to face Kagome. She never expected him to say the things that came out of his mouth, she could tell that his instincts were kicking in, but she still didn't like what she heard.

"You are MINE!" He yelled. "Do you understand that?" By now he had a tight grip on her arm, blood dripping from where his nails pierced her skin. 'This isn't Sesshomaru, he's not thinking straight.' she told herself. She knew it wasn't his fault, he was just upset about seeing her and Inuyasha the way they were, otherwise, he would never hurt her, right? No, he wouldn't. she was sure. She looked up into his eyes, they were bloodshot, he wasn't under control at the moment. She needed to think, some way to bring him back to reality. 'His aura, it's darker then it should be. He seems, so, evil.' she thought. This was not Sesshomaru.

Inuyasha could tell his brother wasn't himself, his scent had changed to that of pure anger. 'Damn, me hugging Kagome set off his youkai.' Inuyasha thought. He had no idea how he was going to fix this, but he had to somehow before Sesshomaru killed him. 'Damn Inu possessivness.' he silently cursed. Inuyasha wasn't paying enough attention to notice the difference in his aura, nor did he care to, he just wanted him to let go of Kagome.

"Now your place, do not come around him again, do you understand me?" kagome's worry was immediately replaced by anger. 'How dare he! Whether he's doing this on purpose or not, I will NOT be told what to do by anyone!' Kagome yelled in her mind. She was not one to just lock up and throw orders to, she wouldn't stand for it.

"Damnit Sesshomaru, control yourself! I am not going to stand around listening to your bark orders at me, and threaten my best friend! You always put yourself above others with your control, well what the hell happened to it?" Kagome yelled. She would not be treated liek dirt by her mate.

Suddeny, Sesshomaru had her by the neck, pinned against the nearest tree. "You dare to throw orders at this Sesshomaru wench?" Kagome's anger had completely diminished, she was scared. Suddenly, there was a burst of blue light. Sesshomaru and Kagome were on the ground. Kagome closed her eyes, as some of her soul left her body and reached out to Sesshomaru's.

As Kagome's soul closed in on him, Sesshomaru's eyes went blank, suddenly, black streams of light left Sesshomaru's body. His eyes returned to their golden hue, but they shone brightly with pain. Kagome watched from her place lying on the ground as Sesshomaru stood and walked towards her. She had no idea what he was going to do, but hoped he wasn't angry. Suddenly, he dropped beside her and pulled her into his arms.

Kagome sighed. Her arm was healed using her miko powers, and she was back in the real Sesshomaru's arms. She could tell his aura held pain though, a lot of it at that. He leaned back a little, looking into her eyes.

"Kagome, I'm so sorry." Kagome hushed him with a soft kiss. When she pulled back, he pulled her into an embrace once again. Inuyasha smiled a sad smile before turning away. He was without a cause. He had no one now. He supposed he would see if Akki wanted a lift back to Sesshomaru's palace, and if not, he woud just leave.

"Sesshomaru, what happened?" Kagome asked. Sesshomaru shook his head. "I don't know. I justblinked and i couldn't control my will to move. I could see everything I did, which proves I was in control, but my body moved on its own accord." Kagome knew the feeling of the aura inside him, it felt like Naraku. they needed to get rid of him, and fast.

"Kagome, what do you suppose happened to your hair?" Sesshomaru asked. Kagome's face held a questioning expression, pulling some hair from her shoulder and brining it up to her eye level, she gasped. Her hair was amazingly silver. It was the prettiest hair color she had ever seen in her entire life. It was shinier then Inuyasha's, ans richer then Sesshomaru's. She shrugged her shoulders leaned into his chest as his arms tightened around her waist.

Inuyasha and Akki decided they would leave in about five minutes, she would do anything to hang out with Inuyasha. Saying their goodbyes, Akki left specific instructions for Sango to say goodbye to her lord and lay, even though they would be home soon, she still wanted to stay on her master's good side. Maybe he would let her court his brother? It would be her dream come true!

Climbing onto Inuyasha's back, she waved one last time, before he jumped into the air, towards the west.
