Chapter 14: Naraku's Appearance
It was early still, they would be nearing Sesshomaru's castle soon. Akki was asleep on his back, he decided that they should rest for a while since he was starting to get a little tired himself. Landing in a clearing, he sat down against a tree and pulled Akki into his lap, closing his eyes, he fell asleep, holding her close to him as he slept.
Sesshomaru woke up the next morning holding Kagome within his embrace. His memories flashed back to the previous day, making his blood run cold. He had hurt Kagome, and Naraku would pay dearly for that. Pulling her closer, he buried his face in her hair, inhaling her sweet scent. It angered to know that he let his guard down enough for that filthy hanyou to possess his very body.
Feeling Kagome shift slightly, he placed a soft kiss on her for head as she opened her eyes. She smiled warmly at him, whispering good morning, to her mate. Sesshomaru leaned down and kissed her lips softly before standing p.
They had slept out side that night, Kagome wanted to sleep under the stars and Sesshomaru couldn't deny her, especially when he realized that it was chilly and that she would be cold, therefore, snuggling close to him for warmth, which he easily provided with his tail.
Kagome jumped suddenly. Sesshomaru noticed and smelt her fear instantly. He quickly came to her and asked her what was wrong. Kagome turned to Sesshomaru with wide eyes.
"Naraku! It's him really him. I can sense the jewel Sesshomaru I sense-" Kagome was cut off by Seshomaru placing a finger on her lips. If she kept rambling he would be there before they could do anything about it.
Sesshomaru lifted her into his arms and ran a mile to the village, stopping as he saw Miroku and Sango on Kirara, heading their way.
"Kagome-sama, Sesshomaru, I sense an ominous presence, and it is growing larger by the minute!" Miroku yelled. Sesshomaru landed and set Kagome down, who immediately told them what she thought of Naraku coming and all. Sango and Miroku paled, they weren't ready for an attack, especially not with Inu Yahsa gone and all. How would they survive? He was nearing them, he knew it, and his plan was sure to work, there was no way he could fail.
Flashback
"Kikyo, I want you to make him believe that you are dead, they will not expect you to surprise them. Make sure he thinks that you are in love with him and it will be an even bigger shock when you turn on him and kill Kagome."
Kikyo nodded. If she could just make him believe that she was not trying to kill him, and that she supports he and Kagome, 'when I kill her, he won't know it was me, then when I tell him he has no alternate reason to survive, he will come to hell with me, not bitter for the loss of his precious Kagome, but for his love of me.' Kikyo thought to herself.
Naraku saw a gleam in her eyes, an evil gleam that could only mean one thing, that she had found a way to get revenge on Inuyasha once and for all, and she would not fail this time.
End flashback.
All he had to do now, was separate that girl from Sesshomaru, not an easy task, but he would find a way, then she would die, Inuyasha would be gone, and the Shikon no Tama would be his to do as he pleaded. He would become a full demon, and when he did, he would rule all. No one would be in his way.
Meanwhile, Kikyo had been following their group for a few days now. She knew Naraku was getting ready to make his move, but she needed Kagome gone, she was too powerful to get in her way, and with her act of innocence, she would have Inuyasha' heart, body, and soul, in hell. That is how she wanted it to be and that is how she would have it.
Inuyasha woke up as a chill ran through his body. He did not like this feeling one bit. He sniffed the air, nothing. Whatever it was, it was powerful no doubt, but it was still too far off so that he couldn't catch the scent of it.
Inuyasha blushed as he realized he still held Akki, molded into his body. What's more, she had carelessly wrapped her arms around his torso in an attempt for warmth. They were both on their side, but no so close that you would call it inappropriate. Inuyasha sighed as he stood up, trying not to wake up the girl sleeping beside him. But his attempt was in vain as he watched her eyes flutter awake.
"You stopped?" she asked, sitting up. Inuyasha nodded down at her, breathing in deeply. Then he caught it, the scent of Naraku. Inuyasha growled. This wasn't his normal scent, this was much stronger, and the direction he was coming from radiated much more power then Naraku usually had.
'Could this be the real Naraku? His aura is more powerful then I ever remember. But he's not heading towards me, and that only means one thing.' He thought. "Kagome's in danger!" He yelled, grabbing Akki and taking off into the air.
He jumped from tree to tree, as fast as he could. If this were really Naraku and if Kagome was really in danger, there would be no stopping his fury from controlling him. He would protect Kagome no matter how she thought of him, he didn't care, as long as she was safe.
Sesshomaru growled as Naraku's scent finally registered in his mind. He smelled Inuyasha as well, that was good. They would need his help if they were to bring down Naraku. As much as he felt the need to remove the thought from his mind, he had to admit, that Inuyasha would be needed for them to succeed.
Nodding to Sango and Miroku, Sesshomaru took off towards the direction Naraku's scent was coming from as the humans followed. Kagome raced back to the village, hoping to reach her bow and arrows, and return to Sesshomaru before the real fighting was started.
Kikyo watched her turn and run the opposite direction to get her weapon. Her soul collectors wrapped around her body, taking off after the young youkai miko. Pulling an arrow from her quiver, she strung her bow and aimed carefully at Kagome. It would be hard since the girl was running, but she WOULD get a clear shot, and she WOULD kill her.
Kikyo concentrated her energy into the tip of the arrow, and it was overtaken by a blue light, checking her aim once more before she let her arrow fly, colliding into Kagome's back. Kikyo smirked when she saw the girl slow down, a lot. She was merely 100 ft. from Kaede's hut, waiting any longer would have let her get her own bow and arrows, maybe even killing her when Kagome realized she was there.
Kagome's breath hitched as she felt something burn in her back. It was still burning, and strong energy was being released inside her body. Her breathing became labored as she fell to her knees, concentrating hard on her surroundings. She smelled no humans, and no demons near enough to hurt her, all she smelt was death, dirt, and decay. Her eyes widened as she realized what that meant.
"Kikyo." She whispered. She couldn't think straight, she needed to get to Sesshomaru, she couldn't die. Wait, why was she here again? She needed her weapon, that's right. Her head was pounding. Summoning up her strength, she took on a pink glow. Kikyo watched in pure horror as the arrow in her back disintegrated, and her skin was left unmarred. But then again, this was Kagome, the girl was full of surprises, she should have been more prepared.
Fuming, Kikyo took off before Kagome could have a chance to retaliate, a new hate for the girl fresh in her mind. But wait, she could have Kagome hurt her, just a little, but enough to set off Inuyasha……..
Kikyo smirked evilly before turning around to catch a glimpse of Kagome, who was already off with her bow and arrows. This would be harder then she had originally planed, but for now, this plan would have to do.
Sesshomaru had run into Inuyasha and told him of Kagome's whereabouts. Inuyasha wasn't happy to find out that she was left unprotected, but they were dealing with Naraku, they couldn't just all go to the village and give Naraku a chance to get the upper hand when they were retrieving her weapon.
They all stopped in a clearing. They were going to wait for him, they were very close now, only about 2 miles and he was nearing quickly. Sesshomaru let out a sigh of relief when he smelt Kagome coming. He knew that something could have happened to her. It wasn't impossible, but he knew he was overreacting, probably because Naraku was so near.
When he saw Kagome, his relief was gone, she looked more out of it then he ever remembered seeing her. Immediately everyone was by her side, asking if she was okay. She looked at Inuyasha, confusion clouding her eyes.
"I thought, you, Inuyasha….You said she was gone!" she half yelled. Akki got off Inuyasha's back as he walked closer to Kagome, asking her what happened.
"Kikyo." Inuyasha paled. She was gone, wasn't she? Didn't she leave and return to hell? But she was better, she wouldn't hurt Kagome.
"She's better Kagome. Even if she were here, she wouldn't hurt you!" Inuyasha defended Kikyo. Kagome blanked. So he would still protect her, would he?
Kagome smiled a broken smile. "Inuyasha, if you're not going to believe what I tell you, then don't ask me anything anymore." Kagome turned away and walked into Sesshomaru's embrace, instantly calming him. He became pissed when he heard the hanyou defend that dead bitch….AGAIN! He thought that he had finally come back to his senses , but amazingly enough, he was obviously wrong.
Wrapping his arms around Kagome, he buried his face in her hair, sending Inuyasha a heated look, making the hanyou inwardly cringe at the hate sent with it. Maybe kagome was telling the truth…….
Naraku emerged on the other side of the clearing, Kagura and Kanna on either side of him. Sango gulped as she saw Kohaku emerge from behind Naraku who began to laugh. Kohaku's blank stare burned into her soul as she watched him raise his weapon, ready to kill.
Everyone took battle stances, watching as Naraku looked them all over, his evil smirk turning to a frown when Kagome and Inuyasha were spotted. Suddenly, he growled. Kikyo should have completed her task by now, it was simple enough. O well, they still could not defeat him, he would just have to attack with more intense strategies then he originally planned. And he would deal with Kikyo later, right now was not the time.
Naraku raised his right arm, hundreds of youkai shooting out from him, heading straight for Inuyasha and the gang. He pulled the Tetsusaiga from its sheath, transforming it, and slicing it through the air, sending the wind scar hurling towards the many demons.
Naraku smirked, he suspected he would do that. Placing a barrier around himself, he was shielded from the attack. Once he was sure he would not get hurt, he sped towards Inuyasha, through the dust and dirt in the air, it was hard to see, but not hard enough for Inuyasha to miss him coming, it didn't matter though, all he needed was to distract him.
Kagome saw Naraku approach as well, yelling for Inuyasha to move, she sent her arrow flying. Naraku easily moved out of the way. Inuyasha's eyes widened as he felt something pierce through his skin from the back. Naraku's tentacle emerged from his chest, sending blood in every direction as it sprayed out from the wound.
"Hiraikotsu!" Sango yelled as more youkai came towards her. She was having a hard time fending off Kohaku, he came at her with all he had. She'd been slashed across her lower back by his weapon already, blood stained her exterminating uniform as she tried to make him remember at the same time, killing off the many youkai that threatened her.
Mirku was doing quite well with his staff and wards, what was really hurting him was looking over at Sango every other second, causing a youkai to get past him. He had a few gashes along his chest, blood poured from them freely, and down his robe. He didn't feel it though, all he felt was anger as his heart constricted at Sango's condition. He had tried so many times, but he just could not get to her.
Sesshomaru watched as Kagome cut through the tentacle with an arrow, then, unsheathing Toukijin, he raced towards Naraku, watching in dismay as blades of wind nearly came crashing down on him.
"Dance of Blades!" He heard Kagura yell. Growling, he jumped back and looked around him to see how his 'allies' if you could call them that, were fairing. The monk was distracted, the exterminator was being pounded on by her own kin, and Inuyasha was using the wind scar, again. He turned to the most important person of all and watched as Kagome shot through appearing miasma, purifying many other youkai with that one shot.
Turning to Kagura, he ran at her, forming his youkai whip and lashing it at her every chance he got. He was pleased as he struck her once, pulling out his sword again and gashing her in the side. His pride was soaring as she fell to the ground whimpering and covered in her very blood. He watched as she bowed before him, planning to die with honor, but before he could deal her the final blow, he heard a scream that sounded too much like Kagome for his comfort.
Turning around he saw her, hands on her gut, bleeding profusely as she fell to her knees. He ran to her, hearing Naraku's sadistic laugh. Sesshomaru's eyes bled as he growled his displeasure at the fact of having someone hurt his mate. No one would ever touch her again, and Naraku would pay, he would pay with his life, here, and now.
Lifting her into his arms, Inuyasha staggered to the base of a tree. Setting her down, he helplessly fell to the ground beside her. He had lost too much blood, but he would die protecting Kagome if he had to.
Sesshomaru was seething, he ran towards Naraku with more speed and agility then he had ever remembered acquiring. He caught Naraku off guard, severing his arms from his body, only to watch them grow back just as quickly as they were removed. Naraku spun around, a malevolent gleam in his eyes as he looked at the taiyoukai. He had succeeded in pissing him off, and would now succeed in killing him.
Naraku extended his arms and legs, then, his body became enveloped by a blinding white light. The light swirled with electricity, crackling as it got larger. Sesshomaru too, became enveloped in light as he began to transform into his Inu youkai form.
As the lights died down, Naraku stood, a giant spider in front of the great dog. Sesshomaru leaped at him, swinging his giant paw. Naraku dodged, swinging one of his enormous legs, at Sesshomaru who easily moved out of the way. Growling fiercely, Sesshomaru swung at him again, poison dripping from his claws.
Naraku growled as he felt the poison seep into his blood stream. He needed to retaliate, the monk and exterminator were coming closer, and the hanyou and miko were healing quickly due to the power she had emitted. Although it took the very little strength that she had left, she was already just about healed up, as was Inuyasha.
'This is why Kikyo needed to succeed.' Naraku yelled in his head. Now that dead bitch was really going to get it when this battle was won. He was starting to have second thoughts about angering Sesshomaru so much.
Sango limped over to Miroku, the youkai were all but forgotten as a mass of blood lie pooled around them. They quickly hugged before turning towards the battle at hand. Sesshomaru and Naraku were attacking faster then the human eye could see, it was useless trying to catch their moves. Turning their heads, they saw Kagome and Inuyasha racing towards the battle before they ran towards it themselves.
The healing technique Kagome used, worked quite well. She wasn't even sure how to do it, it kind of just happened. She began to glow pink, and felt her energy weaken as she watched Inuyasha heal. She herself felt energy restore and was no longer in the tremendous pain she had been in just minutes ago.
Racing to the battle, Inuyasha transformed Tetsusaiga as Kagome drew an arrow from her quiver, stringing her bow. She aimed carefully, knowing that if she hit, she would succeed in dramatically weakening Naraku, maybe even killing him. But if she missed, she could hit Sesshomaru or Inuyasha. A part of her was telling her to take the chance, and she would do just fine. But she knew she would break if she hit Sesshomaru. Kagome closed her eyes, she knew she could do this, then it hit her, Naraku still has jewel shards.
Closing her eyes, she sensed where the shards were, and followed them carefully before sensing that Naraku was away from her taiyoukai and hanyou. Breathing in deeply, she let her arrow fly. She opened her eyes, watching in disbelief as the blue arrow struck the giant spider in its very heart.
Naraku yelled out, as Kagome fell to the ground, her last bit of energy spent as she concentrated on getting back up. She needed to get the shards from him before he regenerated.
Sesshomaru was instantly by her side, telling her to stay and that they could get the shards later. He didn't understand. She needed the shards out of him now, or else he would just run away and re strengthen. She made a dash out of Sesshomaru's arms and over to where she sensed the shikon.
She watched as his limbs began to grow back, utterly horrified as she searched harder. Finally, she gripped the jewel through Naraku's flesh and blood, and pulled it out. The group stood around her, amazed as the hanyou's body disintegrated before their very eyes.
Sesshomaru caught Kagome seconds before she hit the ground. He sensed she had lost a lot of energy and that she would surly need a lot of rest until she was fully healed. Turning around, he followed the group that was already off to Kaede's village.
Sango screamed with joy when she entered the hut, although he was crying his eyes out next to a wounded Kagura and the void known as Kanna, she ran to her brother and took him into her arms, whispering into his ears that none of this was his fault.
Miroku entered the hut next, instantly going to sit against the wall, motioning to Sango to come next to him with Kohaku. Sango sat down on Miroku's lap and rocked her brother to sleep. Despite the bloodied mess, they were at piece, but Miroku didn't want to look at his void, not quite yet.
Sesshomaru entered next with kagome in his arms, growling as he spotted the two incarnations. Kagura stood up, bowing before the taiyoukai respectfully.
Sesshomaru felt Kagome's hand grasp his own as he was about to kill Kagura once and for all. Looking down at her, he saw pity flash through her eyes. She whispered no, she wouldn't let him kill her, whether Kagura minded or not. She deserved a chance to be free, a chance to live a life free from another's control. A life void of Naraku. Sesshomaru understood, he walked around the wind witch and lay Kagome on the tatami Kaede had put out for her. Kagome was instantly asleep with Sesshomaru by her side.
Souta, Shippo, Rin, and Kirara chose this time to enter the hut. Just as the children were about to run to Kagome and Sesshomaru, Inuyasha came in, his arm linked with Akki's, and held them all back. When they looked up at Inuyasha, they saw a soft look in his eyes, as he told them she needed rest. Inuyasha smiled as he sat down against the wall, Akki in his lap, registering what had happened just a few minutes ago.
Flashback
Inuyasha stumbled behind as Sesshomaru walked off with Kagome. He was beginning to feel light headed. His close were still bloodstained, and just because he was healed by Kagome, didn't mean that she gave him blood back, therefore, he was weak. Just as he thought he would fall over, Akki's arm snaked around his torso, steadying him against her.
When he looked down, she smiled up t him and told him that he was a very brave, strong fighter and that he did a good job protecting the one he loved.
"I love her yes, but as a mate, no. She has chosen Sesshomaru, and I've come to accept that, but I still love her as a sister and I would give my life protecting her if I had to. I just could never see myself loving someone that doesn't love me back." Akki was taken back by that. The hanyou had never been so….,mature in his entire time she'd know him, or the rest of his life either from what she understood.
Inuyasha was feeling dizzy again, so Akki decided to have a seat for a little while so he could feel better. She sat down beside him, blushing as he put his arm around her. She leaned her head on his shoulder and closed her eyes, just for a minute.
He didn't know why, but it was like he had to hold her. His arm just found its way around her shoulders, and it felt right. He couldn't let go, he wouldn't even if he could. Noticing her head on his shoulder, he sighed.
"Inuyasha." He hmphd in response. "I, I like you." She said, as if were the normal thing to say to someone, but somehow, her liking him, made his body feel warmer. He felt important, like his life had not just gone to hell after all. Speaking of hell, he made a mental note to check into Kikyo's whereabouts as soon as possible. But for now, he could concentrate on Akki, he wouldn't mess up this time, like he had with Kagome, no way!!!
Inuyasha moved his arm around her waist and pulled her closer to him.
"Akki, could I, you know, court you?" Inuyasha asked, half expecting a no. However, Akki threw her arms around his neck and chanted 'yes' over and over again, like a happy child when they get candy, as Kagome would say. Inuyasha smirked and told her that they should be getting back to the village soon. Akki stood, linking her arm with his, they made their way back to Kaede's hut. Where they were currently sitting right now.
End flashback.
Inuyasha looked around. Miroku, Sango, and Kohaku looked like one happy family, and Sesshomaru looked happier then he ever had his entire life as he lay on the tatami cuddled to a sleeping kagome. And he, he was sitting with an angel in his arms, dreading the day Kikyo would come back to ruin his love life once again. He sighed, why couldn't she just go to hell and leave him the hell alone.
